Sven Bode and Mayor Buddy Dyer

As we enter into the new decade, we are staying abreast of all the new technology and will be bringing new and exciting features to our magazine. Orlando Style’s website has a new platform which separates the magazine site for Orlando Style from that of StyleToMe.com which will continue to serve as portal for our expanded plans to bring additional related ‘Style’ publications to other cities. This portal will serve to accelerate our national approach in making our successful ‘flagship’ concept available to interested and qualified third parties wishing to bring a similar concept publication into their cities. StyleToMe.com will market these products both nationally and worldwide. In addition to continuing to be available in print on newsstands, in stores and by mailed subscription, etc. Orlando Style will offer a new and faster digital version to adapt to the increasing demand to read and view great magazines online and on special upcoming devices like the ‘iTablet’ from Apple or other book reader devices; now our readers can continue to enjoy Orlando’s premier publication in multiple formats, month after month.

styletome.com

We see this new focus on the digital version as a great enhancer for our advertisers and project tens of thousands of new subscribers seeking to benefit from a lower cost version with quick access, offering some great special online offerings. Our digital version will be updated with special incentives on a weekly basis so please check it out as soon as you can. Further, the number of in-room, 4 stars and higher hotel room placements of Orlando Style Magazine continues to grow, currently 7,200 and rising. Continuing our ‘transparency’ policy instituted from day one, your questions and comments are more than welcome at: mail@orlandostylemag.com. Have a great Valentines Day! <

> She had her first standing ovation at age 7 after singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” in a talent show. Now many years later, with countless other standing ovations, movies, songs and awards, she has become a household name – Beyoncé is definitely here to stay.

Beyoncé

By: Varinia Pereira Read more at: StyleToMe.com

She dedicated her childhood to practicing singing, dancing and performing. Getting her love for music from singing in her church choir, she began to shine at a young age. Her father discovered her talents early on and decided to become her manager, and to form a girl’s group with Beyoncé, LaTavia Robertson, LeToya Luckett and Beyonce’s cousin Kelly Rowland. The girls preformed on Star Search but did not win first place, little did they know that a few years after that disappointment, they would be winning the biggest award in music – a Grammy. In 1997 Destiny’s Child won two Grammy’s for their world famous song “Say my Name.” Beyoncé’s dream had come true. But along with joy, came turmoil for the young group. LaTavia and LeToya decided to leave the hit group because of management struggles. Beyoncé and Kelly refused to give up on their passion and after overcoming numer-

After such success, the girls decided to pursue solo careers despite the risk involved in disbanding such a successful group. Destiny certainly has a way of stepping in at the right time for Beyoncé. For her debut solo album she collaborated with rap superstar Jay-Z on “Crazy in Love” which won her more Grammy’s in 2004. But more than just a career boost came from collaborating with Jay-Z, rumors began to circle that they were ‘crazy in love’ in real life as well. In the following years, she also decided to take on the big screen, starring in “Austin Powers Goldmember,” “Dreamgirls,” “Cadillac Records” and most recently, “Obsessed.” Her part in the films proved to everyone that she had more than just a pretty voice.

But more than just a career boost came from collaborating with Jay-Z, rumors began to circle that they were ‘crazy in love’ in real life as well.

She also tied with Lauryn Hill for recordsetting Grammy nominations in 2009, ten to be exact. These nominations come on the heels of her record breaking album “I

am ... Sasha Fierce,” which is a highly personal record from Beyoncé with songs that let fans see the real Beyoncé, like “If I Were a Boy” and “Halo,” both of which show her soft and vulnerable side. Her album also has songs done by her ‘alter-ego’ Sasha Fierce, in “Single Ladies” and “Diva.” Beyoncé has said that she created Sasha as a way of being free on stage to perform more exhibitionist and uninhibited styles than the real Beyoncé would. Beyoncé has struggled to keep her love life personal, but it became almost impossible when it involved a fellow star. Beyoncé and Jay-Z finally married in 2008 in a secret ceremony. Beyoncé said in Seventeen Magazine, “Before Jay and I met each other, we were both focused and successful and knew what we wanted to do. I think it’s great to have a support system and to be around people that work hard and are successful,‘cause it makes you want to be even more successful.” On being a mother, Beyoncé has expressed her desire for it someday, “When it’s time and when it happens, when it is meant to be, it will, but I’m in no rush,” she said to CNN. Beyoncé is in no rush because she has enough to handle in 2010 with her first South American tour that kicks off in Brazil on February 4. With such incredible success, it’s hard to imagine what more she will do, but she says, “I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot of things, but I haven’t seen the best of myself, and the world hasn’t seen the best of me.” <

The Greatest

Celebrity Love Stories

of Our Time By:Varinia Pereira Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Perhaps you have heard the greatest love stories of all time; here are the greatest celebrity love stories of our time. These are couples that have been through ups and downs, divorces, tabloid gossip and hardships, but still somehow came together, survived and grew in their love. From new love, to long-time couples, these pairs are the Antonys and Cleopatras of our time. Tom Hanks + Rita Wilson One of Hollywood’s most enduring couples plays like a scene from a movie. They met in 1981 on the set of the show “Bosom Buddies” that Tom Hanks starred in, but didn’t find that special spark between them until they came together on the set of the movie, “Volunteers” in 1985. Tom said that he was quickly falling in love with Rita on the set; the problem was that Tom Hanks was married with two children at the time. However, he realized that it was the real thing with Rita. Tom said in an interview with “People,” “When you find [love], it’s undeniable.”

Brad + Angelina Known as one of the most beautiful couples ever formed, these two lovebirds came together while playing husband and wife on the big screen in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Unfortunately for Brad’s wife at the time, Jennifer Aniston, their sparks were undeniable and Brangelina was formed. Although they are not married in the legal sense they have formed such a power couple that millions follow their every move on a daily basis. Brad was originally attracted to Angelina’s passion for charity and children, and of course her striking beauty. Angelina was single when she met Brad and still searching for someone special after having been in two failed marriages. In 2006 Brad adopted Angelina’s children, Maddox and Zahara and later that year Angelina gave birth to their daughter Shiloh and in the following two years adopted Pax and gave birth to twins. There has been controversy surrounding them from the beginning with speculation that Angelina and Brad were together before his divorce and the tabloids are constantly creating drama and friction in their lives, but this couple has held it together thus far.

styletome.com

Will + Jada 1995 was the year of love for Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Meeting on the set of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” when Jada auditioned to be Will’s girlfriend. She was turned down because she was too short, but that didn’t stop Will from falling headover-heels in love with the beautiful Jada. In 1997 the two young lovebirds married on New Year’s Eve in a secret wedding. Since their nuptials, they have had two children together and Will also has one from his previous marriage. This couple has lasted longer than many non-celebrity marriages. They currently live on a 100-acre ranch in California, but it’s more than just successful careers that keep this couple together. They put each other first. In an interview with “USA Weekend,” Jada says, “I will throw my career away before I let it break up our marriage. I made it clear to Will, I’d throw it away completely.” Will feels the same way, “With Jada I stood up in front of God and my family and said, ‘till death us do part’. Divorce cannot be an option ... I honestly believe there is no woman for me but Jada. No-one can handle me the way she does.”

Being half-Greek, Rita is best known for getting Nia Vardalos a movie deal for “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” In 1988 Rita and Tom had their own “Big Fat Greek Wedding” and have two children of their own. “I didn’t know what being in love was until I met Tom,” Rita told “Vanity Fair.” Tom and Rita have always said they make family a priority which has kept them happily together for so long. These couples make relationships look easy to the rest of us. Being celebrities they not only have to deal with the normal everyday relationship woes, but with outside forces like the tabloids and paparazzi too. Even so, their love stories are beautiful and enduring. They serve as a tribute to true love being long lasting, even in the 21st century. <

A woman would find it absolutely unconscionable to wrap an automaticadjustable wrench in pretty pink paper attached to a heartfelt Hallmark card.

Oh Sweet Valentine! Proving Men Really Aren’t the Dominant Sex By: Jessica Sanchez Read more at: StyleToMe.com

styletome.com

> It is, perhaps, the one day of the year when a woman can truly feel comfortable revealing those innermost feelings that are often hidden in the depths of her most wishful thinking heart. It’s usually done with a card and it’s difficult to explain. But I’ll go ahead and try anyway: in return, we expect our significant other to buy us lots of pointless things as an expression of his love. Or, at the very least, his effort. A good-faith effort. This year, in keeping with the 21st century fashion trend of finally caring about the environment, there are many environmentally conscious options, but I’d shy away from the Elephant Poo Flowers. Really. They are exactly what it says they are. In fact, the selling point is, “Send your Valentine recycled elephant poop” shaped like roses. These should only be given when all efforts to remain single have failed. I think we can probably all agree that Valentine’s is a day shamelessly exploited by women (and Hallmark), but in doing so women find themselves in a catch-22. It is a holiday defined by chocolate, flowers, jewelry, and teddy bears, but these are the four things that top a man’s list of “Gifts That Are Less Useful Than a Toothpick.” So begs the question: what do you get your boyfriend/fiance/ husband/guy-you’ve-only-known-for-twoweeks-but-it’s-going-very-very-well-andcould-turn-into-something-more-seriousthus-making-Valentine’s-Day-all-the-morenerve-wracking-and-uncertain?? A woman would find it absolutely unconscionable to wrap an automatic-adjustable wrench in pretty pink paper attached to a heartfelt

Hallmark card. That’s because a wrench by its very nature - goes against everything Valentine’s stands for: reason and practicality. It would be the kind of sensible gift that would tickle the corners of your man’s heart, but romance and common sense go together about as well as Nancy Pelosi and Republicans. If they didn’t then every woman reading this would’ve fallen headover-heels for the first man who bought her those much-needed brake pads. Instead you swooned over that heart-shaped necklace from Tiffany’s that turned out to be a $25 knock-off (I’m serious. Google it.) The brake issue - and I know from experience - can be temporarily fixed by simply turning up the music in your car. So what is the perfect gift for the perfect man? I couldn’t tell you. There’s no such thing as a perfect man. Ha! I kid, I kid. But really, somehow I have managed to get out of the gift-giving trauma of Valentine’s for several years now. It might have to do with the highly contagious virus going around Orlando known as Singlitis: the absence of a permanent mate. Symptoms include working out to the point of obsession, dressing like you’re 21 again, and spending gross amounts of money on happy hours. I guess it beats spending money on a holiday that only proves men really aren’t the dominant sex. If they were we would be celebrating St. Joseph’s Day, the patron saint of carpenters, and tools would be the perfect gift. <

Atlanta Luxury Not Just for the Real Housewives By: Holly V. Kapherr Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> “When we opened this place, we knew it would be something special,” says Tracey Lyon-Mercado, Director of Sales & Marketing for The Ellis Hotel, a premiere boutique hotel located in the heart of Atlanta’s Peachtree Street neighborhood is a perfect weekend getaway for the discerning traveler. The hotel is something special, that’s for sure. As soon as you walk through the door, the scent of lavender curls through your nostrils and into a sense of deep calm and relaxation. A few smiling faces, ready to open doors and ensure that your first impression of the hotel is one of seamless serenity. The Ellis Hotel is a different kind of hotel with the kind of luxury you would find across the street at the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, but with a distinctly relaxed and contemporary vibe. Instead of the lavish rococo styling at the Ritz,The Ellis Hotel is adorned with post-modern sophistication—abstract paintings, geometric furniture and art deco fixtures in the lobby, lobby bar and second floor restaurant and lounge, Terrace. Appropriately named, Terrace looks out onto Peachtree Street for a true taste of

metro Atlanta, while inside the serene dining room turns out fresh, sustainable, locally-sourced fare paired from a rotating seasonal menu with creative cocktails, excellent wines and a selection of beers from near and far. A favorite was sumptuous pan-roasted Georgia mountain trout topped with Virginia blue crab and glazed with a sheen of nutty browned butter. The Ellis Crab Cake sings virtual harmonic chords that resonate with the combination of ocean flavors and bright lemony accents, absent are the cakey breadcrumbs—this thing is teeming with fresh lump crab. Wash it all down with something as sweet and smoky as the Atlanta jazz you can find just down the street at many of the district’s jazz and blues clubs, like the Firefly Lemonade made with Firefly sweet tea vodka and a splash of fresh lemonade. Try The Duck Head Milk Stout from nearby Farmville, North Carolina with dessert instead of coffee. It might sound unorthodox (many other things about this contemporary hotel are far from mundane), but this traditional, full-bodied stout is brewed with chocolate, coffee and caramel notes that make it a perfect post-dinner libation.

travel ‘N style

Style & Comfort Outdoor Living With Robb & Stucky Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> When it comes to entertaining in style, these days, what’s “out” is “in.” Outdoor patios and lanais have come a long way from the plastic seating and picnic tables of the past. Recently, homeowners’ increased desire for an outdoor room to enjoy and entertain has facilitated the indoors coming outside. Outdoor rooms expand your living space and can be designed as an extension of your home. Designers creating an outdoor living area fashioned after the interior living room complete with area rugs and accent lamps have illustrated this trend. With today’s technology, outdoor furniture is specially made to endure Florida weather. Manufacturers have designed fantastic pieces from all-weather materials (including all-weather wicker, cast aluminum and teak) that not only carry your interior design style into the great outdoors but are specifically made to endure the exposure to rain, wind and heat. Here in Florida we often open the sliding doors and have one large space for entertaining. Hence, the exterior space needs to harmonize with the adjoining rooms,

and the newest all-weather materials do just that. The technologically advanced materials for outdoor seating are fashionable, comfortable and durable. Performance fabrics and structural materials are specifically created to withstand the outdoor elements with chic style: ornamental fringe resembles raffia and aluminum is fabricated to simulate bamboo. These decorative elements combined with plush all-weather cushions and accessories transform your outdoor room into a resort-style oasis. The top trend in resort-style outdoor living: simple sophistication and complete comfort. The new resort style of comfort and functionality emphasizes spaces, which are inviting and relaxing. Popular accent pieces are all weather rugs, clocks, and unique lighting accessories. Waldorf Astoria

Grand Opening Gala By: Jennifer Marcus

Bottom Photo: Hilton Worldwide President and CEO Christopher Nassetta, Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty, Florida First Lady Carole Crist, City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer surrounded by Orlando Ballet performers Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> A modern twist on an old classic is exactly what the brand new Waldorf Astoria Orlando brings to the number one tourist destination in the world, and lucky for you, it’s the perfect destination to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Located at Bonnet Creek, which is adjacent to the Walt Disney World resorts, the Waldorf Astoria is the first to be built since the original hotel was born in New York City nearly eighty years ago. Last November the city of Orlando celebrated the grand opening of the Waldorf Astoria with a gala featuring the world premier of Homage, a dance piece performed by the Orlando Ballet. More than 500 guests were dressed in their finest as they experienced this once in a lifetime celebration.

styletome.com

The night kicked off in the Grand Ballroom to the bluesy soul sound of Devonda Simmons with guests enjoying classic cocktails and savory hors d’oeuvres. The tuna tartar topped with wasabi foam and Granny Smith apples was a guest favorite along with the specialty drinks, The Waldorf Sour and the Original WA New York cocktail martini, both of which follow the same recipes as the original hotel in NY. The drinks are one of the several similarities of the New York Waldorf Astoria. If you come to enjoy the hotel for Valentine’s Day or any other occasion, you can expect the same famous clock in the lobby along with the award winning restaurants including Bull and Bear Steakhouse, Oscars and Peacock Valley. But while a guest staying at the New York hotel will look out the window upon people walking up and down Lexington Avenue, guests at the Orlando venue will enjoy the views of the hotel’s world famous golf course, which was designed by the legendary Reese Jones who has designed more than 100 top courses in the world. And at this time of the year, it’s the perfect excuse to play a few rounds of golf with your buddies. While you can expect the same superior quality service at all the Waldorf Astoria brand hotels and resorts, the Orlando WA has its own

identity providing a modern feel in a tropical vacation destination. The grand opening gala continued in the Floridian Ballroom, which was decorated as a gorgeous rainforest with radiant foliage and an impressive display of lighting, effects and sounds. The atmosphere was perfect for the Orlando Ballet’s performance of Homage, which is described as a performance celebrating the natural wonders of the earth through the complexity of dance. Artistic Director Robert Hill created the piece exclusively for the gala event wanting to convey the natural beauty of the earth. The powerful and emotional dance served as a great unveiling of a hotel that is in a class of its own. Florida’s First Lady, Carol Crist, dazzled as she spoke to a supportive audience sharing her husband, Governor Charlie Christ, and her enthusiasm for the WA finding a home in Orlando. Hilton Worldwide Chief Executive Officer, Christopher J. Nassetta, spoke of his excitement for a new dimension in lodging for Orange County and Orlando and how thrilled he is that WA Orlando keeps the legendary luxury and elegance of the original but will be a majestic and modern new

hotel. Both Orlando Mayor, Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor, Richard Crotty, spoke to the audience as well sharing their passion for the hotel. Guests enjoyed a divine menu, created by Executive Chef Bernard Fiemeyer, which featured a duet of pan-seared roasted Maine lobster and seared beef tenderloin paired with au gratin potatoes. Following dinner, guests were escorted to the waterfront promenade to enjoy a cheese and wine pairing course and a selection of gourmet desserts while listening to a live Latin jazz band. Capturing the excitement of the evening, the night was capped off with a thrilling display of fireworks over the private Bonnet Creek Island. The promenade is the perfect place to curl up on a lounge chair with the one you love and enjoy Florida’s beauty. The evening gala also celebrated the opening of the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, which is located adjacent to the Waldorf Astoria, providing 1500 guest rooms between the two hotels. Managing Director of both hotels, Peter Kacheris, explained of his excitement of hosting the WA’s first gala event. Thrilled to have a five star resort in Orlando and just minutes from Walt Disney World, Kacheris and the Waldorf Astoria family are proud to carry on the timeless namesake. While the grand opening was unbelievable, the hotel keeps getting better and better and is finding its groove here in Central Florida. Finally, families can come to Orlando and experience luxury and quality customer service at an elite and upscale hotel while enjoying the convenience of Orlando’s theme parks. And even if you are already an Orlando local…The Waldorf Astoria is the perfect escape for a daycation or to celebrate Valentine’s Day. <

> The holiday season kicked off as we set our sights on the very exclusive & private “holiday celebration” at the home of Orlando Style’s own Cathleen and Sven Bode. 40 VIPs rubbed shoulders in fashionable attire at the couple’s exclusive haven, enjoying gourmet eats and spirits.

Manthorn, Food Network Challenge host Keegan Gerhard, Bravo’s Top Chef contestants Jeff McInnis and Mike Voltaggio, as well as chocolatier Norman Love. Proceeds from the event will establish a fund for Jerome’s young children, ensuring their education as they grow.

And for New Years Eve, we hit up Bice Ristorante before enjoying a festive nightcap at Vines Grille and Wine Bar. At Bice, revelers enjoyed the “Blue Moon” shining while opera singers serenaded guests from the balcony at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, all the while dining on incredible authentic Italian cuisine. And at Vines, divine steaks, seasonal fish and a wine list to die for did not disappoint. Live jazz was the icing on the cake of a perfect New Year’s Eve at this romantic boutique wine bar and grill.

And as the holidays came – and went – Orlando was brimming with activity of the physical kind. On New Year’s Day, the 2010 Capital One Bowl and Citrus Bowl Parade kicked the New Year off with a bang while the annual Walt Disney World Marathon and Health and Fitness Expo captured those who resolved to really get moving this year.

Simultaneously, a New Year’s Eve Celebration at Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando boasted a dining tour of Bice at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel the world, live music by Skylyne 407, a midnight balloon drop a la Times Square and a kiddie bash (adjacent to the adult’s party). The Jerome Girardot Fund was established by Laurent Branlard, Jerome Landrieu, David Serus and Stephane Chéramy to celebrate the life and memory of pastry chef Jerome Girardot. The event, called “A Night of Extreme Tastes,” appealed to the town’s most passionate gourmands, as 24 of the world’s top chefs gathered, including Chef Norman Van Aken from Norman’s at Ritz-Carlton, Food Network’s Ace of Cakes star Geoff

And speaking of resolutions made and resolutions broken, with everything from jeans to celebrities shrinking in size, many women are feeling the pressure to lose. But being too skinny is sure to wear thin on your beauty routine. In fact, a consistent starvation diet (eating less than 1100 calories daily) is bound to take its toll on your complexion, your hair, even your nails. So if you’re among the millions who pledged to lose weight in 2010, be sure to do it the right way, and for the right reasons. Since the promise to lose weight is both the resolution most frequently made and the resolution most frequently broken by Americans, try simply making healthier choices that will leave you looking as great as you’re sure to feel.< To comment or offer suggestions please visit StyleToMe.com

Ready to Ride After years of debate, commuter transit is finally making its way to The City Beautiful

> The story of rail in Central Florida is long and varied, and until now, has been just a glimmer in the eye of city and county government. Now, SunRail, the 61-mile commuter rail line that will travel from Deland to Kissimmee/Poinciana, will bring new life to Orlando, a city in dire need of mass transit for its thousands of commuters.

By: Holly V. Kapherr Read more at: StyleToMe.com

In the early 1970s, Disney proposed an extension of its monorail spanning the corridor that now stands home to I-4, but the proposal never gathered enough support to get off the ground. Mayor Glenda Hood led a push for light-rail in the 1990s, but it also failed at the Orange County level with a vote of 4-3, killing the motion. For over forty years, Orlando has seen boom and bust. “We need a new attitude toward growth,” says Mayor Buddy Dyer, a long-time champion of mass transit in Orlando. Since Orlando experienced its first modern-day population boom in the early 1970s, ‘growth’ has been a dirty word, associated with gridlock and pollution.

“We have a history with cars here in Central Florida,” says Mayor Dyer, “but as we experience the exponential growth we’ve seen in the past and will continue to see, we need to move forward thinking along the lines of mass transit.” Dyer sees SunRail as a sustainable solution to the city’s traffic issues and an environmentally-sound and efficient way to move people. Through the rebirth of Downtown Orlando and the development of many chic neighborhoods like Baldwin Park, consensus and partnership is the lifeblood of this growth. “Putting aside political differences is the way we’ve gotten these projects done,” says Mayor Dyer, “and there’s no better example of this than SunRail.” After a SunRail motion failed to gain backing in Florida State Legislature again in 2008 and 2009, the Mayor believed that he and those behind SunRail needed to do everything they could to bring this new transportation to Orlando. Mayor Dyer and longtime proponent Congressman John Mica lobbied

Washington and gained the support of the FDOT. The measure that included SunRail passed overwhelmingly in the Florida Legislature on December 8, 2009. The difference: the Obama administration announced funds would be made available through the stimulus packages for highspeed rail. Since Florida has been in the market for a high-speed rail system for the past 30 years, it was a good bet that the state would be awarded some of those funds to assist in procuring the land necessary to build the high-speed rail offshoots eventually planned. It was the right agenda at the right time. The SunRail system will be comprised of 61-miles of commuter track from north to south, with a light-rail offshoot eventually running east and west from Lake Nona/ Medical City to International Drive, and north and south from Altamonte Springs to International Drive. There are four proposed stops in Down-

town Orlando (Florida Hospital North, LYNX Central Station, Church Street, and Orlando Health/Amtrak), and 13 stations in the corridor. Most stations outside of downtown are proposed to have Park and Ride lots, while riders using SunRail from a downtown station will have extended access to LYMMO service to reach their stations. Mayor Dyer is optimistic about the future of rail in Central Florida extending to other parts of the state, eventually connecting with the struggling Tri-Rail system in South Florida. “SunRail will be the spine that a lot of things can grow off of, whether to the airport or Apopka, Jacksonville or points west like Tampa,” he says. He cites plans to run high-speed track from Orlando to Miami or Orlando to Tampa.

things SunRail will offer to a city sprawling on its haunches with growth. Over 6,700 new jobs will be created as a result of the construction beginning in 2011, not to mention numerous jobs created by increased commercial traffic around stations. SunRail will be a sustainable solution, according to Mayor Dyer, “as gas prices and car maintenance become more challenging obstacles for many, we’ll be reducing our reliance on foreign oil and easing congestion and carbon emissions in our city.” Many opponents voice that the rail program will lead to higher taxes to pay for the project, but Mayor Dyer is optimistic: “This won’t lead to higher taxes; it will lead to a higher quality of life for residents and for visitors.” < Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer

“Just like you could take the subway in Manhattan to see the Yankees play, someone would be able to come from Sanford to see a Magic game just as easily as that,” says Mayor Dyer. Convenience is just one of the

Foreclosures are never good for a community. Once a house is foreclosed, problems start to mount.

> It’s not difficult, these days, to see the economy effecting residents and businesses around Orlando. When will the economy start to recover? No one really knows. However, one can look to the number of new foreclosure filings as an indicator for whether or not the local economy is recovering. A positive indicator would be if the number of new foreclosure filings starts to decline.

Loan Modification? You’ve Got Options Orlando Now | Business News By: Mark NeJame Contributor: Kristopher M. Cruzada Read more at: StyleToMe.com

Foreclosures are never good for a community. Once a house is foreclosed, problems start to mount. From lack of maintenance to code enforcement liens, a foreclosed home can become a blight to the surrounding area. If a borrower finds himself/herself in a situation where a recent hardship (loss of job, loss of spouse, medical problems, death in the family, etc.) makes it difficult to afford the mortgage payment, a call to the Lender would be beneficial. A Lender can provide information about options that are available to the borrower at the default/pre-foreclosure stage. One option available to borrowers is a loan modification. Generally, a loan modification is available to a borrower that primarily lives in the mortgaged residence. Lately, Lenders are beginning to try more diligently to work out or modify loans for homeowners that are in distress with their primary residence. Some types of modifications are interest rate reductions, principle reductions, payment reductions or a combination thereof. Often, the Lenders want to find out more information about your situation. Lenders ask common questions about home equity, employment and financial ability. This is to

make sure that a borrower will be able to make payments after the modification is approved. Sometimes, a Lender may not want to modify the terms of the mortgage. In these situations, the Lender may work with you to transfer title to the property. Transfer of title may be done by two methods: a deedin-lieu of foreclosure or a short sale transaction. A deed-in-lieu of foreclosure is done when the Lender will accept title of the property from the borrower. The Lender receives title to the property in their name. Sometimes, in return, the Lender may fully waive liability to the original borrower for the mortgage debt. A deed-in-lieu of foreclosure helps the Lender because they don’t have to spend time and resources in going through the foreclosure process. The second method is a short sale. In a short sale, the Lender allows you to sell your home at a price less than the balance owed on the mortgage. The Lender must approve the sale. After approval of the short sale and the completion of a few conditions, the Lender will file a Satisfaction/Release of Mortgage to clear title for the new Owner. In a short sale transaction, like in the deedin-lieu of foreclosure, the Lender may or may not fully waive liability to original borrower for the mortgage debt. Finally, the Lender may still choose to foreclose, if the above options have not worked. If you are served with foreclosure papers, seek the advice of a lawyer. All is not lost when a foreclosure is filed, the lender for a number of reasons may wish to mediate and settle a case.<

Sparkle for Spring! Neiman Marcus Senior Vice President and Fashion Director Ken Downing shares his lifelong obsession with chic sparkle By: Holly V. Kapherr Photo: Brion Price Read more at: StyleToMe.com

I wanted to make everything look beautiful everywhere I went. - Ken Downing

> A willowy figure whisks his models down the runway at the Neiman Marcus at the Mall at Millenia. He’s Ken Downing, lifetime fashion devotee, and Fashion Director at the department store’s corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. Downing knows how to style, he knows how to sell, and he knows how to make you look fantastic.

can find—azure, aqua or royal; they’re all over runways. “Find something blue and wear it everywhere: that’s a fashion trend everyone can follow,” says Downing.

For his entire life, Downing knew he wanted to work in fashion. “I was just born with the bug. I wanted to make everything look beautiful everywhere I went,” he says. From the look of the models at the Neiman Marcus resort collection show last December, he’s certainly practiced at it.

The little black dress hasn’t gone anywhere, either, but it has received quite a modern twist. “Instead of wearing black shoes with a black dress, kick it up and pair it with nude stilettos like the patent version from Christian Louboutin,” Downing says. The look is ultra-modern and adds inches to any frame. Louboutin’s shoes are a perennial classic, but in nude patent, they add sophistication and elegance to any outfit.

The runway glittered with sequins galore, a certain trend for spring. Not just sequins spattered about, either, the conversation was all about skirts, blazers and dresses laden with glitz. “Every confident woman wants to get noticed,” says Downing, “and there’s no better way than to make a real statement than in sequins.”

Ken Downing has been an icon in fashion styling for years, and his personal style is a twist of the classic and the contemporary. “The one thing I would say to all women is to ‘trust yourself.’ Nothing is going to look good on everyone, except good style. Good style is truly the only thing that doesn’t go out of fashion,” says Downing.

“Don’t reinvent the wheel in the spring,” Downing says, “all you need are a few pieces in what I call the ‘updated retro’ look.” Denim is big and back in the designer resort collections, and while the 80s throwback fashion era continues, the denim on denim trend has surfaced again. “Layer denim— blue is timeless,” he says.

By the same token, though, Downing encourages women to take a chance, get noticed and make a statement about personal style. “Every time someone says, ‘you look amazing,’ confidence skyrockets and it just builds on itself to take more and more risks to create a style that’s unique to you.” Exponentially building confidence is a trademark of Downing’s philosophy. Take those sequins, nude heels and denim and ring in spring! <

Downing urged ladies everywhere to break out the blue this spring in any color they

Absolutely Electrifying! Introducing the 100% Electric Tesla Model S Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Tesla Motors is now taking orders for the Model S, an all electric family sedan that carries seven people and travels 300 miles per charge.

“Tesla is relentlessly driving down the cost of electric vehicle technology, and this is just the first of many mainstream cars we’re developing.”

The Model S, which carries its charger onboard, can be recharged from any 120V, 240V or 480V outlet, with the latter taking only 45 minutes. By recharging their car while they stop for a meal, drivers can go from LA to New York in approximately the same time as a gasoline car. Moreover, the floor-mounted battery pack is designed to be changed out in less time than it takes to fill a gas tank, allowing for the possibility of battery-pack swap stations.

Tesla expects to start Model S production in late 2011. The anticipated base price of the Model S is $49,900 after a federal tax credit of $7,500. The company has not released options pricing. Three battery pack choices will offer a range of 160, 230 or 300 miles per charge.

The floor-mounted powertrain also results in unparalleled cargo room and versatility, as the volume under the front hood becomes a second trunk. Combining that with a four-bar linkage hatchback rear trunk and flat folding rear seats, the Model S can accommodate a 50-inch television, mountain bike *and* surfboard simultaneously. This packaging efficiency gives the Model S more trunk space than any other sedan on the market and more than most SUVs. “Model S doesn’t compromise on performance, efficiency or utility – it’s truly the only car you need,” said Tesla CEO, Chairman and Product Architect, Elon Musk.

styletome.com

The standard Model S does 0-60 mph in under six seconds and will have an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph, with sport versions expected to achieve 0-60 mph acceleration well below five seconds. A single-speed gearbox delivers effortless acceleration and responsive handling. A 17-inch touchscreen with incar 3G connectivity allows passengers to listen to Pandora Radio, consult Google Maps, or check their state of charge remotely from their iPhone or laptop. Tesla is taking reservations online and at showrooms in California. Tesla will open a store in Chicago this spring and plans to open stores in London, New York, Miami, Seattle, Washington DC and Munich later this year. <

> Have a sweet tooth that tends to get you in trouble with your cardiologist? Fear no more. A delicious super-sweet is here and it’s actually pretty good for you. It’s name? Dark chocolate. This higher cocoa, lower sugar chocolate is not only a healthy treat, but a tasty one too.

Oh So Sweet! Delicious + Nutritious

By: Leah Dieter Read more at: StyleToMe.com

Dark chocolate’s major health benefit is it’s high concentration of flavonoids, which are naturally occurring compounds found in plant-based foods that have antioxidant properties. These flavonoids help arteries in the heart stay flexible, which increases blood flow while decreasing inflammation. They also help the body process nitric oxide, a chemical critical to healthy blood flow. Flavonoids relax blood pressure, and even balance certain hormones in the body. They boost the immune system, reduce stress and LDL, or ‘bad’ cholesterol, in the body, help prevent depression, and generally boost vascular health. While green tea, red wine and many fruits and vegetables contain flavanoids, dark chocolate has a higher concentration ounce for ounce.

Dark chocolate not only keeps your heart healthy in the literal sense, it figuratively does as well. It boosts serotonin and stimulates the secretion of endorphins. This leads to feelings of euphoria and decreases feelings of pain. With increased endorphins, we feel less pain, and are generally happier… what could be better?

While green tea, red wine and many fruits and vegetables contain flavanoids, dark chocolate has a higher concentration ounce for ounce.

Health & Beauty

> Valentine’s Day is this month, which means we women are batting our lashes at every man we meet in hopes of being hit by cupid’s arrow. Then, if we’re really lucky, come February 14 the doorbell will ring and a heart shaped box full of chocolates and a dozen red roses will greet us ... on the arm of Prince Charming, of course. Well, maybe not.

This is MY Valentine’s Day By: Carolyn Brundage Read more at: StyleToMe.com

Contrary to this commercialized version of Valentine’s Day, many women refuse to wait around for Mr. Right. And while a good guy is priceless, you certainly don’t need a man to show yourself a little love. Here’s to treating yourself come Valentine’s Day, and every day that follows. Luck be a Lady

No need to wait for that fat cherub, gift yourself with a piece of stunning jewelry from the Sydney Evan collection. Created by designer Rosanne Karmes, the Sydney Evan line of necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets was named after Karmes’ two children and is inspired by the designer’s passion for spirituality, sentiment and simplicity. My favorite, the Om, Eye and Hamsa Charm Necklace is crafted of 14-karat white gold, sapphires and diamonds ($1,015 at ylang23. com.) And since diamonds are a girl’s best friend, it’s not surprising that A-listers such as Carmen, Gwen, Lindsey and Hilary are BFF with Sydney Evan. You may be unlucky in love, but you’re oh-so- lucky in life…and style, of course. A Vino Valentine

It could be said that a bottle of wine has gotten many a woman out of her clothes. With Vinotherapy you can ditch that little black dress and keep your self-respect.

styletome.com

The official term for vineyard inspired spa treatments, Vinothérapie, originated in France, along with the world’s first wine spa. After crossing the pond, Vinothérapie became Vinotherapy, a term now used for spa treatments that call upon powerful antioxidants in grapes, such as polyphenols and resveratrol, which boast a bevy of skin saving benefits. You don’t have to hop aboard a jet plane to enjoy the benefits of wine-infused products in Central Florida. Head to Sephora at S. Orange Blossom Trail and shop their collection of Vinothérapie Body Treatments from Caudalie Paris. I adore the Caudalie Spa at Home Set ($56), featuring six faves such as Beauty Elixir, Fleur de Vigne French-Milled Soap, Sauvignon Scrub, Vine Peach Shower Gel, Hand and Nail Cream and Body Lotion. The Anti-Valentine

For those who are happily attached come February 14, you too can buck the trend towards sappy, cloying, and utterly predictable Valentine’s Day rituals. Start by shaking things up a bit with a greeting card from New York based stationery company, Uncooked. Ultra non-traditional, these nutty notes include greetings such as, “From the moment we met I knew we were going to be together forever. At least we better be. I’ve already started to let myself go a little.” The Uncooked collection is so unique it caught the eye of MTV execs who asked the folks at Uncooked to write, illustrate and direct animated commercials for MTV based on Uncooked’s irreverent greeting card humor. Cards cost $3.25 each and are available online at uncookedland.com <

Oxford Realty sells some of the most beautiful properties in Central Florida and that is what she says makes her job so interesting. “Each home is like artwork”, says Hewitt. “I consider myself very blessed to work in such beautiful places, in a career I enjoy so much with my husband / business partner, and I never take it for granted. Each client is important and because they have trusted us with such an important asset, they are entitled to the best service, trust and commitment possible.” There is little spare time available in the real estate industry, but when she is not working she is spending time with her family and is playing her Steinway piano, and just recently is attempting to make a recording for her family and close friends. “I practice every day and find my music to be a great form of relaxation and fortunately I have a husband who enjoys the music - even the practice sessions.” Oxford Realty is a small, boutique luxury real estate company with ofices in the Millenia area of Orlando, where highly skilled agents provide a high level of service and committment to their prestigious clientele.

Bam! Emeril Kicks it Up with Tchoup Chop! Louisiana Meets Polynesia at the Royal Pacific > For fans of Chef Emeril Lagasse’s versions of Louisiana and Southern favorites, Tchoup Chop is a unique and welcome surprise. The restaurant, located within Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios, has a modern Asian sensibility. Beautiful hanging glass chandeliers and a large infinity pool, overflowing with hand-blown glass lilies dominate the center of the room. The addition of teak and stone furniture adds a classic elegance to the Polynesian atmosphere. However, don’t let Tchoup Chop’s stunning interior distract you from the main event. Its open kitchen allows for a fantastic showcase of some of Orlando’s best culinary talents. This is truly a restaurant for foodies.

Turnips and Blood Orange Salad or the Tchoup Chop Salad. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the Tchoup Chop salad’s soy dressing was refreshing– perfectly combined with candied pecans and orange supremes.

Though Emeril’s Tchoup Chop is not new to the Orlando restaurant scene, the Pacific-fusion menu has changed dramatically in the past year. While the restaurant is still focused on bold Polynesian flavors, Emeril Lagasse and his Chef de Cuisine, Greg Richie, have refined the courses. Chef Richie’s previous experience as the Executive Chef at Roy’s (Hawaiian/Asian-Fusion restaurant) makes him a perfect fit for Tchoup Chop. And if you’re lucky, as we were, you’ll be able to see the two Chefs working side-by-side through the window of the open kitchen.

The knowledgeable wait staff will be happy to recommend wine pairings with all of their dishes. We enjoyed the “screaming acidity” of the 2008 Airlie’s 7, a Willamette Valley varietal, with Mochi Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops on Butternut Squash Risotto with Thai Curry Lobster Sauce. The phenomenal presentation of these enormous sea scallops was only matched by their taste; the scallops were pan-seared to perfection and the squash risotto was masterfully matched with a spicy lobster sauce.

And who knows, you may just overhear a few ‘Bam!’s coming from the kitchen. <

A tasty alternative to the traditional pork tenderloin, Tchoup Chop offers Mongolian Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Lo Mein Noodle Stir Fry and Mandarin Orange Sweet Onion Confit. The mix of sweet and savory flavors makes for a contemporary take on an Asian favorite.

Arriving only minutes before the rest of our party, I was able to sit at the bar and order a drink. The bar was friendly and busy with activity; the team of bartenders hustled up and down a gliding ladder, retrieving bottles from the high shelves behind the bar, pouring and sampling an excellent selection of beer, liquor and cocktails. However, I only had time to taste the seasonal beer that I’d ordered before my table was ready.

If soup is your preferred appetizer during these cooler winter months, the Miso Soup and Pumpkin Bisque are hits. Miso Soup is usually a tame and watery affair, but Tchoup Chop’s tasty take is easily the best Miso Soup that this writer has ever tasted: simple and satisfying. And while most of us avoid pumpkin after Thanksgiving, this flavorful bisque was tastily combined with surprising Thai heat.

We were seated very close to the open kitchen. You can see the kitchen from almost any table, and it provides an intimate, behind the scenes look into how Tchoup Chop functions. Immediately upon seating, we were served a crispy selection of thinly sliced Prawn chips with a zesty sauce.

However, if you are feeling ravenous, it is hard to do better than the Herb Grilled Kobe Ribeye with Garlic Whipped Potatoes. Paired with a 2003 Schweiger Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, your taste buds will be taken on a flavorful journey to steak heaven. Served with a Matsutake Mushroom Worcestershire Reduction and Black Garlic Hollandaise, this classic combination of meat and potatoes takes on a Polynesian flair that transports it into a world of its own.

For appetizers, try the Ginger and Soy Braised Hereford Pork Belly with Roasted

You’ll want to save room for desert so that you can enjoy Emeril’s Signature Ba-

nana Cream Pie (also available at Emeril’s on CityWalk) – a beautiful concoction with caramel sauce, shaved chocolate and a fantastic graham cracker crust. However, if you’ve had Emeril’s signature dessert in the past, you will want to order the Peanut Butter Filled Chocolate Fudge Cake with Peanut Butter Pretzel Ice Cream. The pedestrian flavors of peanut butter, chocolate and pretzel combine to create extraordinary chemistry. Once you’ve bitten into the beautiful presentation of this dish, you will want to lick the plate clean. If you’ve been to Emeril’s Tchoup Chop in the past, you are invited to come back and rediscover its fantastic new menu.

>> 12 Tips on paying for college in tough times

Princeton Review on how to save money, and get the most from financial aid By Kalman A. Chany, Getting admitted to your choice college is only half the battle; the other half is figuring out how to pay for it. The competition for resources can be stiff, especially in tough economic times. Princeton Review shares tips on planning so that you can take advantage of financial aid. The most important rule? Start early. 1. Start researching aid possibilities sooner rather than later. The competition for aid increases when the economy is weak. Those who plan ahead for the aid process will do much better than those who procrastinate and miss deadlines. 2.Take steps that improve your aid eligibility. For example if you have lost your job, you should avoid the temptation to spend any

Princeton Review releases list of schools that give the most for your money > The Princeton Review chose the 100 schools on its Best Value Colleges for 2010 list based on institutional data and student opinion surveys collected from more than 650 colleges and universities the company regards as the nation’s academically best undergraduate institutions. The institutional data was collected from the fall of 2008 through fall of 2009. The selection process took into account a wide range of data that included more than 30 factors in three areas: academics, cost of attendance, and financial aid. Academic factors included the quality of students the schools attract as measured by admissions credentials as well as how students rated their academic experiences. Cost of atten-

assets in your retirement plan. In addition to the likely early distribution penalties and additional income taxes, the higher income will reduce your aid eligibility. 3. Apply for financial aid no matter what your circumstances — flush or not. Applying by the priority deadlines, even if you think you won’t qualify, will help you if your finances take a turn for the worst. Some schools will only accept requests for reconsideration due to a decline in income from those students who filed for aid on time — even if they were turned down initially. 4. You should still not initially rule out any school as being too expensive. Many colleges — especially the private ones — have increased their aid budgets to attract applicants whose families are now more price resistant given the state of the economy. But have a back-up plan in case the aid is not enough to attend those pricier schools. Most likely this will mean also applying to a public institution in your home state and/ or any school where the student can live at home instead of paying for room and board.

dance factors included tuition, room and board and required fees. Financial aid factors included the average gift aid (grants and scholarships, or free money) awarded to students, the percentage of graduating students who took out loans to pay for school, and the average debt of those students. Also included was survey data on how satisfied students were with the financial aid packages they received. Here, Princeton Review shares the top 10 private and public schools that made the cut. Private 1. Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, Penn.) 2. Harvard College (Cambridge, Mass.) 3. Wesleyan College (Macon, Ga.) 4. Princeton University (Princeton, N.J.) 5.Yale University (New Haven, Conn.) 6. Williams College (Williamstown, Mass.)

7. Rice University (Houston, Texas) 8. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Mass.) 9. Amherst College (Amherst, Mass.) 10. Wellesley College (Wellesley, Mass.) Public 1. University of Virginia (Charlottesville,Va.) 2. City University of New York — Hunter College (New York, N.Y.) 3. New College of Florida (Sarasota, Fla.) 4. Florida State University (Tallahassee, Fla.) 5. University of Colorado (Boulder, Colo.) 6. State University of New York at Binghamton (Binghamton, N.Y.) 7. Univ. of Georgia (Athens, Ga.) 8.Virginia Tech (Blacksburg,Va.) 9. Texas A & M University (College Station, Texas) 10. University of Oklahoma (Norman, Okla.) 36. University of Central Florida UCF

5. Pay less for a four-year degree. You can save on costs if the student attends a community college for two years and then transfers to a pricier school for his or her remaining two years. However, be sure that the college to which the student plans to transfer will accept the credits from the community college.

9. If you have to borrow, pursue federal loans first and avoid having the student take on private loans at all costs.

6. Encourage your student to take as many AP courses as possible and to prep well for AP exams. High scores on AP exams can save considerably on college tuition. Many colleges award course credits for them, which can reduce the amount you need to pay in tuition.

11. In addition to your aid planning, focus on planning for the various education tax benefits you can claim. After all, a dollar you can save on your taxes is worth the same as getting an additional dollar in grant or scholarship aid.

7. Apply strategically to colleges. If you exceed the school’s admission criteria, you are much more likely to get a better aid package than a marginal applicant. Be sure to prep for the standardized tests such as the SAT or ACT, so that the student is more desirable. 8. Be realistic about how much debt the student can incur, given the starting salaries for his or her probable major and career path.

10. If your circumstances have a taken a turn for the worst, request additional aid. But expect that the college may require considerable supporting documentation.

12. Don’t put tuition on a credit card. This debt is more expensive than ever, given the recent changes to interest rates and other fees that many card issuers are now charging. You also want to be sure you avoid maxing out on your borrowing limit, just in case you need to use the card to pay for an unexpected emergency. Excerpted from “Paying for College Without Going Broke: 2010 Edition” by Kalman A. Chany (Random House / Princeton Review Books, Published October 2009). <

love quiz

Love Quiz Is your Love Bound to Last? By: Elizabeth Fayt, Relationship Expert and Author of Paving it Forward Read more at: StyleToMe.com

SCORING YOUR ANSWERS: 1. If you answered Yes to question 1 give yourself 10 points. Add 5 points if you answered Yes to the bonus question. The first step to creating an amazing love life is to be aware of your thoughts. Everything in life is a choice. People spend more time choosing what they are going to wear in the morning than they do choosing how they will connect with people.Your first thought of the day lines up the energy of the day. You can consciously pre-pave your day. Start your day with some powerful pre-paves that will line up a day of miracles for you in love. Pre-pave “I deeply connect with my partner today.” 2. If you chose a) give yourself 10 points. If you chose b) give yourself 5 points. We shouldn’t wish to change anything about anyone else, rather change ourselves, then the whole world changes naturally around us. Whatever you focus on shows up more in your relationship. If you inwardly concentrate on your partner’s faults or idiosyncrasies, they will become

styletome.com

more dominant to you. Whatever you look for, you will find. Begin to look for the best every day. 3. If you answered c) score yourself 10 points. Neither of the other two answers warrants any points. Whatever you talk about expands in your life. You are not helping your relationship by telling a friend all about your woes in love. Asking for advice only closes off your own inner voice. Ask your questions within and keep your answers to yourself and your partner. Your relationship is private and its privacy should be respected. 4. First of all, don’t compare your life to someone else’s. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. If most of us were truly aware of the ups and downs of another person’s life, we would be more than happy to stick with our own. Often what we see in the lives of others is there to give us clarity on what we want in our own life. So when you see a friend enjoying what you want, rejoice and say Yes! That is what I want too! Then put your energy toward creating it. If you chose c) score yourself 10 points and 5 points for b).

5. If you answered c) give yourself 10 points. If you answered b) give yourself 5 points. No one can offend us or hurt us without our permission. 10% of life is what happens to us, 90% is how we respond. Attitude is not the most important thing; it’s the only thing ... because it creates our next experience. 6. Often when our partner is in a bad mood, not only do we let it affect us, we often dampen our own self-esteem by questioning, “is it me? Did I do something wrong?” Then we brood about it. Get out of that trap. Start a new habit of keeping your own thoughts on a high plane, regardless of his mood. His mood has nothing to do with you. You can choose how you want to feel, despite how anyone around you is feeling. And if you’re both wallowing, you are in no position to pick him up. If you chose a) give yourself 10 points. 7. First of all, if you answered c) the first thing you need to do is change that thought. It is a limiting belief that is creating the very thing you don’t want. Regardless of what you scored, expand your thinking about the meaning of ro-

Answer these simple questions. Be sure to answer honestly!

1. Do you remember your very first thought this morning (before you opened your eyes?) Yes/No Bonus Question: If you answered Yes, was it positive? Yes/No 2. If you had the chance, what would you change about your partner? a) Nothing b) Very Little c) Got a few hours? 3. You’ve just had a fight with your partner and you call a good friend for coffee. In your conversation: a) You cry the blues b) You ask for advice c) You mention nothing about your fight 4. Over dinner with a good friend, she begins to tell you how sweet and romantic her partner is. You:

mance to mean much more than just flowers and chocolates. Romance can also be taking out the garbage, holding the door open, or anything that shows a sign of selfless service. Score yourself 10 points for answering a) and 5 for b). 8. If you marked a) give yourself 10 points. Way to go. Romance is something you do, not get. So many people look for a romantic partner, rather than just making the effort themselves to create romance in the relationship. Give yourself 5 points if you picked b).

a) Have a hard time hearing it, because your man is so far from that b) Are sincerely happy for her, but at the same time a little jealous c) Are sincerely happy for her, and it gives you an idea of something romantic you will do for your partner! 5. How often do your feelings get hurt in your relationship? a) Often b) Seldom c) Never 6. You partner comes home from a hard day’s work. He is clearly in a bad mood. Answer honestly. You: a) Do your best to support him; at the same time you keep your own mood happy. You don’t allow his bad mood to spoil your happiness. b) Do your best to support him, but you can’t help it, when he’s miserable, you’re miserable.

because we think a certain way–period! Change your thoughts and you change your feeling. Feelings are in fact a great method of keeping on track with your relationship. They are your emotional guidance system that tells you when your thoughts are on track or not. Whenever you have a negative feeling, decide what you want then Pre-Pave it. A powerful Pre-Pave is to say and feel inwardly “I am worthy of true love. I am worthy.” Score yourself 10 points if you answered a).

9. We are always in the driver’s seat of our own experience and can choose at any time to create more love in our lives. Pre-Pave to your partner “I love you more today.” This will line up the energy for more love. Don’t miss a day. Make it a habit. Give yourself 10 points for answering a) and 5 points for answering c)

> TALLYING UP YOUR SCORE: Add up your points. 105 is a Perfect Score. Zero is the lowest possible score.

Paul Walker Sept 12

March 21 - April 19 Mars, your ruler, is retrograde this Valentine season. Sentiment andnostalgia are strong. Seek a gift which evokes pleasant memories; perhaps a jeweled picture frame for a favorite retro photo. Friends offer valuable diet hints after the 10th. Observe what a svelte acquaintance orders for lunch. Try a Caribbean theme in planning outdoor patio décor for the warmer days to come. Brightly colored umbrellas add the perfect accent. Lucky days: 7, 18, 26

April 20 - May 20 Be charming with coworkers as the month begins. In appreciation one of them will offer a clue, revealing your Valentine’s secret gift wish. It could involve a designer watch or bracelet. Through the 11th it’s easy to let those extra pounds accumulate. You’ll be tempted by rich and delectable desserts. The month’s end finds your determination to diet returning. Wind chimes or bells add the perfect finishing touch to your patio. Lucky days: 1, 19, 20

May 21 - June 21 Either new love prospects brighten the beginning of the month, or an ongoing relationship seems refreshing and more intriguing;Venus will be in a favorable aspect. Family members assist with outdoor decoration ideas, a canopy creates an interesting focal point.
