STAR WARS: EPISODE VII TO OPEN DECEMBER 18, 2015! With post-production underway and a confirmed release date of December 18, 2015, fans around the globe are eagerly awaiting the release of Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.

BOX OFFICE NEWS

Peter Mayhew & Harrison Ford in Star Wars: Episode VII, The Force Awakens, 2015

“Chewie, We’re Home.” “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,” said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios in 2013, months before production began.

As if securing an award-winning director and notable writers and producers weren’t enough to ensure Episode VII’s success, legendary composer John Williams has composed the score for Star Wars: Episode VII. Shooting began in spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios in Heath, Buckinghamshire, England. True to the Original trilogy, whose first film, Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hope debuted on May 25, 1977 in less than 30 theatres, Star Wars: Episode VII will return to practical effects, relying on models and puppeteering, but continuing to utilize digital special effects, merging “the best of both worlds” as Abrams puts it.

Although many die-hard “warsies” were infuriated after hearing of another Star Wars film (with nauseating images of Jar-Jar Binks and little Anakin Skywalker still haunting the beloved franchise), when word was confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VII would be directed by J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek) and scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) fans everywhere began to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

The first official teaser trailer was released on November 28, 2014, restoring faith in the franchise. Buckle up, Tampa! Han and Chewie may be seasoned and a bit worse for the wear, but the dynamic duo is about to shake the big screen and the galaxy for the fourth time on December 18th!

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, along with J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk produced the film, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (The Adventures of Tintin, War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers.

BELLUCCI on Seducing Bond at 50 By Jon Wilde

It’s the movie event of the year... and we’ve got the only interviews with the femmes fatales of Spectre. First Monica Bellucci tells Event: ‘Compared to the Bond girls who have gone before me, I am so much more mature. I’d prefer to be called a Bond woman or perhaps a Bond lady.’

COVER STORY

When Monica Bellucci was unveiled as one of James Bond’s new love interests, she says it wasn’t her impressive CV that got all the attention. Nor was it her obvious physical charms: the raven-black hair, huge brown eyes, bee-stung lips, voluptuous figure... it was her age. ‘My first thought was, “How can I be a Bond girl at 50?”’ says the Italian actress, talking about the role for the first time. ‘After my audition [director] Sam Mendes told me that, for the first time in history, he wanted a woman of a similar age to the actor playing Bond.’ ‘I told Sam he would be a hero among women for casting me in Spectre.’ In taking on the role of Lucia Sciarra, Bellucci becomes the fifth Italian to play

a Bond woman. Back home she is known simply as La Bellucci, and is regarded as one of the classic muses of Italian cinema alongside Sophia Loren. She is held up as the epitome of the sexy, older woman, a role she is happy to play along with. ‘Many 50-year-old women feel invisible to men, but it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s worth remembering that what you project outside comes from inside,’ says Bellucci .

About Monica Bellucci: She first launched herself as a model aged 13 and finally broke into films in the early Nineties with a small role in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Never shy of taking on controversial roles, she played Mary Magdelene in Mel Gibson’s The Passion Of The Christ and starred in Gaspar Noe’s scandalous Irréversible. But, until Bond came calling, she was best known for her steamy scenes with Keanu Reeves in the second and third Matrix movies. Married for 14 years to actor Vincent Cassel, the couple split ‘by mutual agreement’ in August 2013. Though reported to be dating property magnate Telman Ismailov, she claims to be single at present. Perhaps not surprisingly, she is all in favour of older women pairing off with younger men. ‘What is the problem with a man of 30 being with a woman of 50? It is a matter of energy and the soul, not a matter of age of

“TRUE SEXINESS IS IN THE MIND, THE IMAGINATION, NOT IN THE AGE OF THE BODY.” the body.’ ‘True sexiness is in the mind, the imagination, not in the age of the body.’ ‘It is no surprise to me that men still find women like Isabelle Huppert, Catherine Deneuve and Charlotte Rampling very attractive.’ Says Bellucci. ‘Men look at Judi Dench and they see so much strength, so much power that comes from inside. And that’s attractive.’ ‘I look at those women and hope that I can have that interior richness as I get older, the kind you cannot see through the eyes.’ Bellucci adds. Fiery and gregarious, La Bellucci offers a sharp contrast to Léa Seydoux, her Spectre co-star. As Oscar Wilde said, ‘beauty is a form of genius but beauty can become boring in two seconds if you don’t have anything else to sustain the curiosity.’

About Léa Seydoux: As Madeleine Swann, Seydoux becomes the tenth French actress to play a Bond girl. Possessing all the necessary sultry pout, chic petiteness and Gallic enigma, the 29-yearold Parisian would appear to be a worthy successor to the likes of Claudine Auger (Thunderball), Eva Green (Casino Royale)

and Bérénice Marlohe (Skyfall), although she reveals she had a crisis of confidence as soon as she landed the role.

2014, I had lunch with Sam in London. He told me I was part of the film!’

‘I started to wonder whether I had it in me to be a Bond girl. I wondered whether I was beautiful enough.’ ‘So, there was some anxiety about it. I got the part in April 2014 and filming didn’t start until December, and so maybe I had too much time to think about it.’ Says Léa Seydoux.

Until now, Seydoux has been virtually unknown in the UK, but she’s long been a household name in France. She was born into a powerful French family: her grandfather is the chairman of Pathé films, her mother, Valérie Schlumberger, is a former actress and her father, Henri Seydoux, founded a wireless technology business.

Unlike Bellucci, Seydoux has no problem with the Bond girl tag, though her Bond girl dream was almost shattered as soon as it began.

After a difficult childhood, during which she suffered from panic attacks and paralyzing phobias, Seydoux made her film debut in 2006.

‘The first audition took place at a hotel in Paris. I joined the three other contenders in line. We were there to read lines from Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace.

She has since divided her time between French arthouse and major Hollywood movies like Inglourious Basterds, Robin Hood and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

‘I arrived very early and I was nervous so I drank a little beer to relax myself.’ Says Seydoux. Then when it was time for my audition, my face was bright red and I forgot my lines. It wasn’t a success. In fact it was a failure.’ She adds. ‘That made me very sad but I asked if I could audition a second time. After that, they asked if I could meet Sam Mendes at his office in London. I think he really liked me.’ ‘He said he’d think about it. I waited for a few months. Then, in April

In 2013 she was awarded the Palme d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Blue Is The Warmest Colour as a bluehaired painter who seduces an introverted teenage girl. Off-screen, she is fiercely protective of her relationship history. Though rumored to be hooked up with Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal, she will only concedes that she’s in a steady relationship with a man who is not an actor.

COVER STORY

“JAMES BOND IS MY IDEAL MAN.” The 21-year age difference between Bellucci and Seydoux becomes most apparent when they are quizzed about their earliest Bond memories. Bellucci has fond recollections of growing up with the Sean Connery movies and her favourite Bond girl moments are from the Sixties. ‘When I think about the Bond girls from the past,’ she says, ‘I think of images frozen in time: Ursula Andress emerging from the water or Shirley Eaton painted in gold.’ Seydoux has vague memories of watching Pierce Brosnan as Bond when growing up, but her strongest identification is with the Daniel Craig stretch of the franchise. ‘With the arrival of Daniel, a new chapter seemed to open up for the Bond movies,’ she says. ‘The movies are better and much more exciting than they used to be.’ ‘It impressed me that a French actress was playing a Bond girl. I was taken with the way she could be intense and mysterious, strong and vulnerable, girlish and womanly. I love it when an actress can play with contradictions. ‘But there’s no way I could have imagined myself playing a Bond girl nearly ten years later. For me, that dream was too big.’ Secrecy is always the hallmark of a Bond movie, with cast and crew under strict instructions to reveal as little as possible about plot and characters, even to their nearest and dearest. What is known is that the 24th Bond movie, the second to be directed by Sam Mendes, centres around a cryptic message from 007’s past sending him on a trail to uncover the sinister terrorist organisation known as Spectre (Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism & Extortion). Speculation is rife that Spectre is the first in a two-part story. This latest movie sees the return of Ben Whishaw as Q , Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes as M. Newcomers include Christoph Waltz, who is strongly rumoured to be cast as Spectre’s catloving leader, Blofeld, but Waltz has refused to comment. The security that surrounds any Bond movie extends to the actors keeping mum until their

casting is officially announced. When it came to keeping the news under wraps, Bellucci fared rather better than her French co-star. ‘If keeping a secret is the key to being a good spy then I think I’d make an excellent secret agent,’ she says. ‘When Sam told me I had the role of Lucia, I was also told that I had to keep it a secret for a few months.’ ‘I didn’t tell a soul. That wasn’t a sacrifice for me. I respect a secret. Keeping a secret, for me, is a sign of maturity.’ Bellucci is rather more tight-lipped when asked to describe her Bond character, especially when asked about the rumours that Lucia Sciarra is bisexual. ‘Is that the rumour?’ she teases. ‘I don’t know if I can answer that. Let the fantasies swirl around. People will find out the truth when they see the film.’‘All I can say about Lucia is that she brings to life the idea that femininity can be a thing of strength. In life and in movies, femininity is often depicted as a weakness. But not in Spectre.’ Seydoux, in contrast, couldn’t resist telling friends and family that she’d landed the role, and is a little more forthcoming when asked to describe her character, Madeleine Swann. ‘She’s very chic, far more chic than I am in real life. She has the power to change Bond’s life.’ ‘Her name is, of course, a nod to Marcel Proust.’ In Proust’s Swann’s Way, the opening book of Remembrance Of Things Past, the madeleine sponge cake has the potential to evoke powerful memories. The name has been chosen deliberately for this film. ‘Madeleine Swann is a catalyst for change. She helps Bond open the mystery so it is revealed.’ As for 007 himself, Daniel Craig joked back in 2012 that he’s been trying to escape Bond since he first signed the contract, but ‘they won’t let me leave’. Spectre will be his fourth Bond outing and it’s widely reported that the next one will be his last. There’s already rife speculation about who would be the right actor to replace him. Much of the debate centres on whether it is time for a black actor to step into 007’s wing25 TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

tipped brogues. Idris Elba would seem to be the leading contender, backed by rapper Kanye West, among others. Former 007 Pierce Brosnan has gone in to bat for Colin Salmon. Chiwetel Ejiofor is another popular choice. At least a black Bond is one of the issues that Seydoux and Bellucci can agree on. ‘Why not a black Bond?’ ‘I don’t think it should be colour. It should be about actor, the way he’s going character.’

‘The one thing I would rule out is a French Bond,’ says Seydoux. ‘James Bond can change in many ways but he always has to be British.’ Which leaves just one burning question: what is it like to kiss 007? ‘I haven’t tried yet,’ says Seydoux, elusively. ‘But we haven’t started shooting the sexy scenes. All I can say is that I hope it will happen.’ La Bellucci is somewhat more effusive in her response. ‘James Bond is my ideal man. He’s got the danger and the mystery but he is also a perfect English gentleman. That sense of danger is maybe his greatest quality. He’s looking for danger even when he’s not in action. Even if there is pain involved he cannot help looking for danger because that’s when he feels most alive.’ ‘Of course, in real life, there can be too much danger in a man. But we all love a little danger. That’s where the excitement is to be found. When we come up against danger, we discover how much strength we have.’ ‘And how good a kisser is Daniel Craig? I assume that he is very good indeed.’ ‘To find out if this is more than an assumption on my part, you’ll have to watch the movie. Voila!’ ‘Spectre’ will be released in the autumn.

By Ro Martinez Personal style is developed over time by selecting unusual fashion pairings considered outside the design box. Boho is a blend of comfort, color, ethnic touches and texture layered to perfection. Call it hippie, gypsy, or tribal — I call it eclectic poetry. Boho hints at adventure, as if a well-traveled fashionista found treasure in pieces crafted by artisans from the other side of the world.

Boho or Bohemian style was made popular by Bohemians. Some view them as a group of artists or gypsies who cared more about the art or talent then money. Others view them as free-spirited adventurers who refused to conform to the norm. Today, Boho is more a look than a way of life. Men are at home with this style because of its ease. Mixing appeals

For a business look, choose a jacket layered over an ethnic inspired dress shirt paired with dark dress trousers and conservative shoes, perfect for the office or date night. Boho is both casual and comfortable. Bohemian Fashion Tips for Men

Through the years bohemian fashion has developed, and is a giant chunk of popular fashion today, especially with younger men. One of the reasons for its popularity is the freestyle statement that it makes, and second is its low cost. You can find t-shirts, vests semiformal shirts, jackets, zippers, hoodies etc. of a good quality and in variety of bright colors and hues in thrift shops. They are most often paired with Capri pants or baggy jeans, or even baggy trousers. You can also try combining the tops with cargos for an alternative fashion statement. Jaeblak, Virgin Blak Blog

Dress appropriately for the event; Boho for the beach is different then Boho for the office. “While fringe & tie dye are synonymous with the boho style, there’s more to the look than a hippie holding up a peace sign. Boho is a feeling, almost a state of mind. It’s channeling a wanderlust vibe even when you’re stuck at the office through the style that is flowing, comfortable & somewhat ethereal. It’s a relaxed, easy going fit & feel that can be applied to anyone’s current style,” shared Danielle Marie Evans, Wardrobe & Personal Stylist. Boho is a popular style that is for everyone — men, women, young and young at heart. Blending pieces and styles creates a one-ofa-kind look that is effortless and artistic. Be adventurous and add a little Boho to your wardrobe today.

Hair Opt for longer natural waves with plenty of texture. Keep it clean with minimal product. Facial hair is a plus that will add to the Boho feel.

Fit is just as important as fashion.

Nothing says sloppy more than an ill-fitting garment. Spend a little on alterations, and it will go a long way making you look puttogether. Hems, cuffs, and sleeve length require your attention. Care for your investment and expect to wear tried and true pieces a decade from now. Men’s fashions do not change as often as women’s do. If you find Boho is your goto style, stick with it. Build your wardrobe gradually. Our photographed model, John, said, “I grew up on St. Pete beach and basically lived in board shorts and tank tops. It’s a fact that men find women to be incredibly complicated. It’s also a fact that men know no bounds when it comes to pursuing the object of their affection. Unfortunately, this usually comes with a great deal of cheesy pick-up lines and cringe-worthy comments. So, just what exactly do women want? An article titled “Why the Pick-Up Scene Gets it Wrong” written by Chad Howse focuses on the “pick-up” or “dating” niche and how ineffective it is in regards to what women actually want. Chad believes these men address the issue of confidence with a backwards approach. By putting too much thought into their visual image rather than what’s coming out of their mouths, these men ultimately fall flat in their goal of successfully “wooing” a woman.

Pick-up strategies offer external tools but don’t transform the inner man. Clothes and rehearsed lines can give you confidence, but it’s a confidence that can be taken away. It’s external, and therefore fragile. Real confidence is not dependent on outward appearance.

Focusing on picking up women gives you a distorted view of value.

Chad argues that although communication and confidence is important, the approach that pick-up artists use turns men into dependents rather than increasing their strength and self-assurance. He proposes three reasons why the “dating niche” simply doesn’t work.

When you put all your focus on getting with women, you become dependent on the validation of women for your own self-worth. The more you stop craving attention from women, the more attractive you become to women.

30 TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

Notches on your belt are not the same as having the right lady on your arm. While pick-up tactics may bring you short-term success, they don’t prepare you for a long-term relationship. You may know how to get a woman to come home with you, but do you know how to get her to stick around? Guess what, guys. Women agree with Chad. Pick-up lines and overconfidence are instant turn-offs to women. Men are visual, so they first and foremost fall in love with their eyes. Women, on the other hand, fall in love with all of their senses. We care about the whole package, and a big part of that is personality. Here are some valuable dating tips from the female perspective. Embrace the opportunity to gain insight into the mind of the woman and use this knowledge wisely.

Be direct and straightforward. You don’t need to waste time throwing out your best pick-up lines or acting casually disinterested. If she hasn’t walked away from you and isn’t rolling her eyes, chances are she’s somewhat interested. Get to the point and be direct. Let her know you’d like to get to know her better.

Don’t try too hard. Women like receiving compliments, but don’t overdo it. Compliment a (not inappropriate) body part, like her hair or eyes, and don’t dwell on it. You don’t need to tell her six times that she has the most beautiful smile in the world, even if it’s true. Compliment her, and then keep the conversation moving forward.

Confidence is attractive, arrogance is not. There’s a fine line between confidence and cockiness. It’s easy to want to sell yourself, but it’s not a job interview. She doesn’t care about your fancy job title, and it comes off as bragging. Take an interest in her, ask questions and pay attention to her answers.

Chivalry is not dead. She won’t think it’s lame or cheesy if you hold the door open or pull her chair out. Sadly, chivalrous gentlemen in the 21st century dating world are a dying breed, and it will help you stand out from the rest. Most importantly, be yourself. Dating and getting to know someone can be awkward. But if you come off as genuine and don’t put on a act, it will enable the other person to act like his or her true self, and you’ll be able to really get to know each other. Good luck!

CELEBRITY SOUP

All too often,

we hear about all the “bad boys” of Hollywood. The millionaires who couldn’t care less about the millions of fans who helped them get there. For many male celebs, their world revolves around booze, women, money, fame, more women and more money. From punching paparazzi to cheating on their ladies and so much more, any Hollywood gossip outlet will tell you how common these stories are. Just take a look at the latest TMZ headline on any given day. Rarely do we hear about all of the amazing things that many “good” celebrities are doing, but today that changes. In honor of the faithful husbands, the loving fathers and the charitable role models of Hollywood, here are 5 of our favorite celebrity nice guys.

44 STYLETOME.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

If any celebrity has an excuse to be bitter and cynical, it’s Keanu Reeves. The Matrix actor has been through some pretty rough waters in his life. Reeves’ father abandoned his mother when Keanu was just 3 years old which led to a hard life of constant moving and living with new stepfathers. In 1999, Reeve’s girlfriend delivered their stillborn child and then died in a tragic car accident just 18 months later. As if that wasn’t enough trauma for one person to live through, Reeves’ sister has battled Leukemia for close to a decade and he has constantly supported her – both emotionally and financially – throughout it all. From paparazzi photos of Reeve’s hanging out with a homeless man to a viral YouTube video of him giving up his seat on a busy subway train. The stories of Reeve’s good nature are long and noteworthy, which is why we’ve named him our #5 Nice Guy of Hollywood.

NOTABLE NICE GUY STORY:

Keanu once helped a woman whose car had broken down on an LA highway. After several failed attempts at getting her car to start, Reeves called for the vehicle to be towed. He then voluntarily drove the woman all the way to her home, which was 50 miles in the opposite direction of where he was originally heading. Before leaving he also gave the woman his phone number for any additional help.

Coming in at #4 is one of Hollywood’s hunkiest nice men, Ryan Gosling. Not only can Gosling play a nice guy on the big screen, by all accounts he is also a genuine nice guy off-screen as well. He’s even involved in a new movie called The Nice Guys! Coincidence? I think not! As with many celebrities on our list, not much is known about Gosling’s private life because, well, he keeps it that way. In spite of his privacy, you can’t argue with Gosling’s long resume of good deeds. The Notebook star supports several charities and is credited with not

just one, but two acts of heroism. Last month Gosling made headlines again after posting a touching tribute to the creator of the “Ryan Gosling won’t eat his cereal” meme, Ryan McHenry, who died of bone cancer at just 27 years old. Gosling posted a Vine of himself eating cereal in honor of McHenry and wrote a tweet saying, “My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry’s family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been a part of his life in some small way.”

NOTABLE NICE GUY STORY:

Gosling once took the time to break up a fight in New York City before it got too out of hand. In a now famous YouTube clip, Gosling walks towards the altercation, drops his grocery bags and physically restrains one of the men in the fight. He then takes the pair away from traffic at the intersection and attempts to help the two resolve their conflict.

Hugh Jackman is not only one of Hollywood’s sweetest celebrities, he’s also the model family man, which is why he takes the #3 spot in our countdown. Jackman married his wife of 15 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, in 1996 on the set of one of his first acting roles. After his wife (who is also 13 years his senior) suffered two miscarriages, they decided to adopt two children instead. Countless paparazzi shots of Jackman and his family are a testament to how much he enjoys spending time with his children and wife. In one interview Jackman passionately spoke of Furness saying, “She’s the greatest. I’m one of the lucky ones. She’s very wise, a great actress, and a great wife and mother...I’m really proud of her.” On and off camera, Jackman is regarded as one of the most pleasant and engaging actors to work with. He is impeccably polite, undeniably charming and always makes time for his adoring fans.

NOTABLE NICE GUY STORY:

A woman was up bright and early trying to set up her tent at a NY Farmer’s Market when Jackman noticed her struggling against the wind and offered to help. The independent woman declined the help, but the chivalrous Aussie insisted and only then did she realize who he was. He spent a good part of the morning continuing to help the woman by carrying her things from her car and even posed for a photo before heading on his way.

CELEBRITY SOUP

Admit it. Nobody hates Matt Damon. Named “Hollywood’s Sexiest Mr. Nice Guy” by Elle Magazine, he is #2 on our list because he is the celebrity leading the most normal life on our countdown. In 2003, Matt went against the Hollywood norm by starting a relationship with Luciana Barroso, a Miami bartender he met while filming Stuck On You. The two of them started dating immediately and were married two years later at a low-key, no frills ceremony in a New York courthouse. Damon speaks of his wife often saying, “I got lucky, I fell in love with a civilian.” The pair has three kids together and Damon also adopted Barroso’s daughter from a previous marriage. Despite daddy’s fame, however, if you’re like me then you probably don’t even know the names of Damon’s children. Unlike Kim and Kanye or Tom and Katie, there are no celebrity kids in this family. Whereas other celebrities complain about the spotlight and then proceed to flood social media with pics of their little ones, I had to turn to Google to find out what Damon’s kids even looked like. This family man who has somehow found a way to maintain anonymity in the midst of his high profile career is rightly named #2 on our Nice Guys of Hollywood countdown.

NOTABLE NICE GUY STORY:

Matt Damon has a big heart for teachers! In 2011, Damon attended the Save Our Schools rally in Washington with his mother, a teacher. During an interview with Reason TV, Damon stood up to a reporter who implied that teachers should be driven by the same job insecurity that drives him and other actors to work so hard. Needless to say, the offended actor had some “choice” words to say to the reporter, but numerous people have since praised Damon for defending the teaching profession and so passionately standing up for education.

Tom Hanks is the beloved Hollywood actor coming in at #1 on our list. He has been immersed in the world of Hollywood for decades, but has yet to succumb to the pressures that have turned so many of his counterparts into grumpy, expletives-shouting men. His nice guy persona precedes him, but if there’s one actor that both fans and the film industry can say is the real deal, it’s Tom Hanks. The Cast Away star has been named the easiest celebrity to work with numerous times by various Hollywood directors and actors. From his legendary roles to his engaging and entertaining personality, Hollywood doesn’t get much better than Hanks! As is typical with all the nice guys on our list, Hank’s also donates to a variety of different charities. He has been faithfully married to his wife Rita Wilson since 1988 and on Veterans Day in 1999, he received the Distinguished Public Service Award (the US Navy’s highest civilian honor) for his work in Saving Private Ryan. What a class act!

NOTABLE NICE GUY STORY:

In 2013, Hanks met one of his biggest fans, Sarah Moretti. The young woman, who has autism, had spent years collecting pictures and news-cuttings related to Hanks and putting them together in a scrapbook. In a YouTube video Hanks is seen meeting the super-fan backstage at his Broadway show Lucky Guy. Not only does he take the time to go through the book, but he also appears to be genuinely thrilled by the encounter saying, “Sweetie, how wonderful it is to meet you” and “Sarah, this is so great. You know, my mum doesn’t have something like this.” 46 STYLETOME.COM

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,

THE ROLLING STONES By Courtney Caggiano

After a long 18 years, The Rolling Stones are once again returning to Orlando as they take their iconic sound across the nation with their 15-city North American Zip Code Tour. On Friday, June 12, the record-breaking band will make their stop at the Citrus Bowl, bringing back the classic rock and roll vibes that defined a generation.

48 STYLETOME.COM

DON’T MISS THE BEAT

For fans who lived through The Rolling Stones’ mid century reign, or for those who have developed an appreciation for roots-based rock, this tour is an incredible opportunity to celebrate one of the world’s most infamous bands. For one night only, hits like “Tumbling Dice,” “Satisfaction,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” will shake the stadium of the Citrus Bowl. The band’s set is loaded with hits from the past, as well as lesserknown selections from their catalog that have proven to be favorites over time.

become a groundbreaking representation of pop culture as well as a multi-generational favorite. According to drummer Charlie Watts, the innovative sound of the album comes not from the band’s shift in artistic direction, but rather Mick Jagger’s desire to play guitar, taking on some of Keith Richards’ responsibilities. The band has admitted that Jagger’s strange guitar technique, which involves playing on the upbeat, a style unique to Brazilian guitarists, was the key factor to defining songs on the Sticky Fingers album.

The Rolling Stones have not played U.S. Stadiums since 2007, and this tour is full of new sights and sounds, making the Zip Code shows unlike those of any other Rolling Stones tour. With a stage designed to extend deep into the audience, fans will get the chance to have an up-close and personal concert experience, and cutting-edge video screens and special effects promise a high energy night of rock and roll that is not to be missed. The name of the Zip Code Tour is a reference to the zippered-jeans cover art from band’s classic 1971 album, Sticky Fingers. Recently reissued as a deluxe album, Sticky Fingers coincides with the Stones’ 2015 tour, making the album’s hits some of the shining stars of the live set. Show favorites like “Brown Sugar,” “Dead Flowers,” and, of course, “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” become new again in the CD reissues and exclusive box sets. The album release also includes five tracks that the band recorded live at London’s Roundhouse in 1971, featuring “Honky Tonk Women” and “Midnight Rambler.” Sticky Fingers, one of the most well known Stones albums of all time, is iconic for reasons well beyond the classic hit singles. The cover artwork, designed by Andy Warhol, has

In retrospect, one can see that, to a certain extent, The Rolling Stones taught Americans their own music. After coming to the United States in the mid-1960s, the band popularized blues-rooted rock and roll, which brought the blues back to the surface of modern American music. Even on their 1972 album, Exile on Main St., The Rolling Stones resurrected the Delta blues number, “Stop Breaking Down,” giving it new life with an energized rhythm and heavy chorus line. This song, recorded by American blues legend Robert Johnson in 1937, was relatively underground in the music scene until the Stones brought it back to the American people. Orlando is fortunate enough to have the band bring this blues-inspired rock and roll back across the Atlantic once again. While it may seem as though the Zip Code Tour is a celebration of the legacy that The Rolling Stones’ career has become, legacy is a word that is often associated with a cultural icon of the past, and The Rolling Stones are certainly not leaving any time soon. Rather, this concert is a live show featuring musicians that play just as hard as they did when they began.

Looking back on this album today, one can see how far The Rolling Stones have come over the decades, but it is nearly impossible to imagine how far they have come since playing nameless clubs outside of London in the early 1960s. Known as “The Blue Boys,” childhood friends and classmates Keith Richards and Mick Jagger formed a humble garage band, yearning to discover the secrets of American blues artists. The young band’s repertoire focused on the tunes of bluesmen such as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Bo Diddley. This American blues music, a rarity in England, was quite inspiring coming from a group of British musicians.

Be sure to attend this once-in-a-lifetime rock and roll experience at the Citrus Bowl. The Rolling Stones will continue their Zip Code Tour throughout the United States before bidding farewell once again on July 15th in Quebec, Canada. Born out of extensive motorsport experience – and using the brand’s acknowledged flair for design and engineering ingenuity – the 800-plus bhp, all-carbon fibre Aston Martin Vulcan promises truly extreme performance. Uniquely for Aston Martin, the new supercar – limited to just 24 examples worldwide – will allow owners the opportunity to precisely tailor their track day experience through a graduating scale of detailed power and dynamic performance adjustments.

CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer, said: “Aston Martin Vulcan is, by its very nature, a rare and thrilling supercar. Designed and engineered to deliver a genuinely bespoke driving experience that draws on our rich heritage, this car tailors its power and handling to both the capabilities of the driver and the characteristics of the track. “A sports car for true sports car lovers, I believe the Aston Martin Vulcan – and the unique ownership programme that sits behind it – sets a whole new standard in the ultrahigh luxury supercar class.”

Motorsport-inspired Styled entirely in-house by the Aston Martin design team led by Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, and with a design language hinting at the next generation of Aston Martin sports cars, this supercar is powered by the most potent iteration yet of the company’s naturally-aspirated, 7.0-litre V12 petrol engine. With its 800-plus bhp powerplant developed in conjunction with Aston Martin Racing, this front mid-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car draws extensively on the brand’s rich GT motorsport experience.

Utilizing the techniques of world-class motorsport engineering, the supercar sees its power-to-weight ratio exceed those of the GTE cars which compete in the FIA’s annual World Endurance Championship. Comprising cutting edge engineering including that sourced from the brand’s successful GT racing campaign, the car features a carbon fibre monocoque and body constructed by Aston Martin’s longterm specialist body engineering and manufacturing partner Multimatic, integral limited-slip differential, magnesium torque tube with carbon fibre propeller shaft and Brembo racing calipers acting on carbon ceramic racing disc brakes which measure 380mm in diameter at the front and 360mm at the rear. Drive is channelled to the 345/30 x19 rear wheels and Michelin race specification tyres through a race-bred rear mid-mounted Xtrac six-speed sequential shift gearbox. Track-derived pushrod suspension with anti-dive geometry is complemented by Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) adjustable dampers and antiroll bars front and rear, driver-adjustable anti-lock braking, and variable traction control.

Aston Martin’s Director of Special Projects and Motorsport, David King, said: “Taking the extensive learning from our various successful racing programmes and applying it to this exceptional track car for customers has been an exciting and sometimes challenging task for the team here at Gaydon.

David King said: “We will be running a series of exclusive track day events commencing in 2016 that will offer the opportunity for these customers to explore their driving capabilities, and the car’s performance potential, on some of the world’s most famous and glamorous race circuits.” There will also be the option of time in the virtual race car world of Darren Turner’s Base Performance Simulators, where buyers will have ample opportunity to further refine their driving style in the safety of the digital race track. No longer the exclusive preserve of Formula 1, it is widely acknowledged that using a

simulator can help prepare a driver for any race; improving technique and consistency as well as, ultimately, lap times. Almost infinitely flexible in terms of color and trim options, the exclusive new sports car will be offered to buyers through Aston Martin’s VIP sales program, using the expertise and luxury customer service that is now a hallmark of the brand’s ‘Q by Aston Martin’ bespoke personalisation service. Dr. Palmer added: “We have already received strong interest from the customers we have spoken to about Aston Martin Vulcan.” “The cars will blend our traditional Aston Martin values of Power, Beauty and Soul with an unrivalled ownership experience; a unique combination that will guarantee their place in the brand’s rich and charismatic history.” Performance data, together with further technical details about the ultra-exclusive track-only supercar, will be released closer to its track debut later this year.

RUINING YOUR SLEEP? The Scoop on Blue Light By Kourtney Destefano

You shut your lights off around the house as bedtime approaches,

The Study

however, the light from your smartphone, tablet and computer often stay on. It is one of the lights emitting from your electronic device, which is a blue light, that causes a problem. If you have trouble sleeping and are a frequent user of electronics, listen up. A Harvard study found that blue light, the wavelength common in smartphones and tablets, disrupts the internal body clock, hindering sleep.

An overwhelming amount of studies found that working the night shift, meaning exposure to light at night, was linked to diabetes, obesity and heart disease. Exposure to light decreases the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that influences circadian rhythms. The Harvard study linked blue light to diabetes and obesity. The researchers put 10 people on a schedule that gradually changed the time of their circadian rhythms. Their blood sugar levels were found to have increased, putting them in a pre-diabetic state. Their levels of leptin, a hormone that makes you feel full after a meal, also went down. Even dim light was found to have an impact on our circadian rhythms. Stephen Lockley, a Harvard sleep researcher, says that just eight “lux,” a level of brightness exceeded by most table lamps, has a powerful effect. Light at night is a main reason people don’t get enough sleep, Lockley says, and researchers have linked limited sleep to increased risks for depression and diabetes.

The Science Behind It Our bodies are kept in sync with the rhythm of the day and night by our internal body clock. The body clock, called the circadian rhythm, uses light to tell time and all different types of light affect the body differently. During the night, light throws the circadian rhythm out of whack, causing sleep to suffer. Although blue wavelengths are beneficial during the day, increasing attention and mood, they have been found to be the most harmful and disruptive at night. 54

“Although blue wavelengths are beneficial during the day, increasing attention and mood, they have been found to be the most harmful and disruptive at night.”

Blue Light Potency Although any light can decrease melatonin, blue light is significantly more powerful. The Harvard study compared the effects of 6.5 hours of blue light exposure to a comparable brightness found in green light. The discovery? Blue light decreased melatonin for about twice as long as the green light, shifting circadian rhythms by twice as much. A study by the University of Toronto compared the melatonin levels of those exposed to bright indoor light wearing blue light blocking goggles to people exposed to regular dim light without goggles. They found that the levels of melatonin were about the same,

proving that blue light is a strong suppressor of melatonin. What To Do So how can you combat this powerful blue light and get back your much-needed full night of sleep? • Avoid looking at bright screens about two to three hours before bedtime. • Expose yourself to lots of blue light during the day. This will boost your ability to sleep at night, and heightens your alertness and mood at daytime. 55 STYLETOME.COM

• Use dim red lights for night lights, as red light has the least effect on your circadian rhythm. • If you’re a night owl or work a night shift, considering purchasing a pair of blueblocking glasses. • Turn off your electronic device and allow yourself a good night’s sleep!

DO IT YOURSELF ORTHODONTICS Consumers who may be considering “do it yourself “ orthodontic treatment should be aware that they may be putting their teeth, gums and bones of the jaws in harm’s way. There has increase in the availability of such products online and in retail stores.

Among the offering are mail order aligners to straighten your teeth. An impression kit is sent to the consumer who then uses it to make a mold of the upper and lower teeth. From these molds a series of aligners are made to gradually straighten the teeth. The cost associated with this is lower than seeing a dental professional. The concerns with this “treatment” is that the consumer has not been examined by a dental professional to determine if the gums and surrounding bone ad tissues are healthy. Movement of teeth in patients who have gum disease can make the situation worse causing damage. Tooth movement is gradual allowing the gum and bone to remodel around the new tooth positions. Patients who are not seeing a dental professional for regular check ups are more likely to be harmed. Another “quick fix” is where rubber bands are promoted to close a gap between teeth. There are numerous You Tube videos showing this technique. These rubber band can slip down under the gum and if not removed can cause damage to the tooth, gum and surrounding bone. There are numerous documented cases where this has resulted in permanent tooth loss. Aligning jaws, straightening teeth and correcting bite should begin with an examination by an orthodontist. Throughout orthodontic treatment, and through regularly scheduled appointments, orthodontists assess the movement of teeth, bone and soft tissue and make the necessary adjustments to advance the process. Police Brutality

By Mark NeJame

Contributor Vanessa Louise Braeley

The militarization of America

Mark NeJame

is much more than a mere sentiment at this point. Between the Baltimore Riots, Ferguson and everything in between, U.S. citizens are convinced we are becoming a police state. The obvious cause for concern is police brutality is race-related, and while this is readily apparent, perhaps there is a less conspicuous undercurrent of gender-related aggression. One should wonder, would there be less violence if we had more women police officers? While it’s understood that most believe some things are just best left to a man, that line of thinking tends to be antiquated and focused on the physical capabilities of man versus woman. Exploring the biological differences

62 STYLETOME.COM

between genders and the way that they communicate and deal with conflict leads to some interesting results. In studies conducted on whether women conduct police tasks differently: • High speed chases which occurred during a period of 12 months were conducted by 66% men and 44% women; • In those high speed pursuits that were instigated by the police officer, only 9% of the high speed chases were instigated by female police officers; • Citizen complaints of police misconduct are largely about

IN THE KNOW

male police officers, particularly in areas of assault or excessive force; • Women tend to be more rational and are skilled at “verbal judo. We can take care of it without having to go hands-on.” The National Center for Women and Policing contends “Twenty years of exhaustive research demonstrates that women police officers utilize a style of policing that relies less on physical force, and more on communication skills that defuse potentially violent situations. Women police officers are therefore much less likely to be involved in occurrences of police brutality…” So what gives? Is it testosterone? Ego? Camaraderie amongst men? Perhaps. Biological differences between genders are generally responsible for why men and women react different in stressful situations. The current police brutality crisis has also been brought to light by access to technology. Smartphones are the best witnesses, after

all. A video or photograph captures these violent transgressors in real time and on prime time, whereas before they operated in the shadows. Mitigating excessive force by law enforcement will no doubt rely on newly implemented tech gadgets such as body cameras. Still, a “woman’s touch” may be the balance needed in order to diffuse potentially physically aggressive encounters before they get, well, physical. It can be safely assumed that men will continue to dominate the police force, and we need every single one of them. But as police forces sweep the nation equipped with surplus military gear such as machine guns and hand grenades, we must not forget to protect our civil liberties and explore all options of reforming police practices. Body cameras, communication training and the recruitment of female police officers is certainly a good place to start.

Level 8 Lounge

A TASTE OF THE SOUTH By Dana Damato stable. The interior features the original exposed stable beams giving the first class establishment a taste of the past. As much as I loved the inn and their cozy lobby lounge, there was a lot of the city to discover.

Florida State University. Seminoles.

College town. Capital of Florida. Those are just some, or all, of the things that came to mind whenever I thought about the city of Tallahassee. I’ve been a Florida native my whole life – 27 years. I’ve traveled all across the world; yet, I never found a reason to visit Tallahassee. “What is there to do in Tallahassee besides go to FSU or work for the government?” I thought. Finally, I made the trip and got to explore all this city has to offer, and needless to say, I was completely blown away.

I began my trip with a cocktail in the chic Level 8 Lounge, located in the Hotel Duval, and nearly devoured a delicious cheese plate paired with one of their specialty cocktails, an Old Fashioned. The best part of enjoying a few cocktails at Level 8 Lounge is the spectacular view overlooking downtown Tallahassee. Level 8 Lounge is a perfect spot to meet up with friends after work or to enjoy a drink in a casual and comfortable atmosphere. For me, it was a little “welcome to Tallahassee, ” treat before heading to The Front Porch for dinner.

Whether one is a foodie, single, has a family, in a relationship, etc., there’s something in Tallahassee for everyone to discover that will leave you wanting more. For me, I explored the culinary and entertainment side of Tallahassee, because who doesn’t adore a delicious meal and a good time? From the moment I pulled into my hotel, The Governors Inn, until the moment I left, I experienced an endless amount of exquisite food, refreshing cocktails and live entertainment. restaurant includes the ethnic Nefetari’s Fine Cuisine & Spirits, which offers unique and diverse menu items from around the world. Guests can enjoy their ethnic meals while being entertained by musicians and belly dancers, depending on the night. For a classy and sophisticated restaurant, perfect for a romantic date, Cypress Restaurant is the best in town serving classic southern dishes with a five-star twist. The next morning, I was still feeling full from The Front Porch meal; however, we were on our way to Backwoods Bistro, which is a popular restaurant in town – especially for breakfast. My breakfast experience at Backwoods Bistro can be described in two words – French toast. This wasn’t just any French toast though; this was a thick, soft and perfectly prepared meal with a side of fresh strawberries and whipped cream that was to die for. It was worth the guilt and definitely worth the calories. Another fantastic breakfast spot in Tallahassee includes the cute

and quaint Paisley Café that prepares their menu items to order. You can taste a whole lot of love in each and every meal. Paisley Café will feel like you’re at the owner’s house for breakfast, and she, herself, prepared a southern meal for you. You’ll never want to leave – believe me. Maybe you’re thinking about skipping breakfast and just heading straight to lunch. Some great lunch spots in Tally include Madison Social, (do NOT leave without ordering their Butcher Cut Bacon and The Madison Mule to wash it down). Madison Social is Tallahassee’s newest Social House that features lunch, dinner, happy hour, and late night experiences for all ages. On weekends, their six garage doors open up to expansive outdoor patio seating overlooking Doak Campbell Stadium. For seafood fans, head over to Shell Oyster Bar to indulge in the best oysters you can find in the panhandle area.

With all this eating, there has to be some way to burn it all off, and Tallahassee is the perfect city to explore with a large variety of walking activities. Just a short drive north is the charming town of Thomasville, Georgia. Downtown Thomasville is made up of shops, boutiques, restaurants and my personal favorite – Sweet Grass Dairy. If you’re a cheese fanatic, this will be your new favorite spot. Stop in after walking around the downtown area for a tasting of their fresh cheese from their very own farm. Looking for a historical activity? The Goodwood Museum and Gardens is a wonderful place to tour! Spend the day touring their 170 year old Main House or stroll through their scenic gardens. The estate began in the 1830s as a cotton and corn plantation that ultimately encompassed 2,400 acres. Another excellent walking activity is the Downtown Marketplace, which takes place on Saturday mornings and hosts’ vendors that sell local produce and goods with live music each week.

Capital City Amphitheater

Speaking of live music, Tallahassee is becoming a hot spot for live entertainment due to their fairly new Capital City Amphitheater. The Amphitheater at Cascades Park is the home to musical, theatrical and other community events. It features more than 1,500 permanent seats and a sloping landscaped area for more than 2,000 festival seats. Concert goers will enjoy an intimate music experience in a clean venue. Looking for more live music? Out in the country passed the city limit sign… is the Bradfordville Blues Club. When we say this music venue is out in the country… it really is! The Bradfordville Blues Club experience is like no other. It combines a truly unique location and atmosphere with the best the Blues has to offer. Hidden in a rural part of Tallahassee, the experience begins when you travel down the winding dirt roads and up the hill that lead to the Club. Don’t miss out on the bonfire area as well. The bonfire burns nightly under the large oaks and provides a romantic atmosphere. You can usually meet the artists as they too enjoy the rustic surroundings out by the fire or you can just sit back and relax during the set breaks. You’ll sing, you’ll dance, you’ll drink, and you’ll have the time of your life.

BODY CAMS FOR POLICE OFFICERS - BY MARK L. HORWITZ

Over the past several months the news has frequently highlighted acts of police misconduct, as well as police officers being attacked and killed. It cannot be disputed that the vast majority of police officers are diligent, hard-working public servants who seek to protect and serve. There are few, however, that go too far and commit the sort of acts which have resulted in public outcry. Police misconduct has been revealed by bystanders recording the use of excessive force. Many have called for a mandatory requirement that all police officers wear body cams to record their actions and conduct with the public.

Law Offices of Mark L. Horwitz, P.A. 17 East Pine St. Orlando, FL 32801 P: 407.843.7733 F: 407.849.1321 mark@mlhorwitzlaw.com www.mlhorwitzlaw.com

The accuracy of a visual recording of a confrontation is affected by several factors including the angle of the camera, lighting conditions and whether the recording captures the entire event. When considering whether the action of a police officer is justified or amounts to excessive force, it is necessary to observe the situation as seen by the officer. Examples of this have been shown on local TV news. A camera which is behind or at an angle to the officer may see an officer pull a gun or take some other violent action even though the camera angle does not reveal that the officer has just seen the person in front of him draw a gun or pull a knife. Likewise, a bystander who visually records an incident already in progress may not capture aggressive action by a person resisting arrest or by a police officer instigating an incident.

There can be no doubt that a police officer might be thrust into a stressful and dangerous situation at any time. Likewise, a citizen may be confronted by a police officer who is acting unreasonably or aggressively for no reason. In either case, if the public and the police know the officer is wearing a body cam, there is a strong likelihood that all concerned will act reasonably. Studies have shown that police officers wearing body cams have a positive effect not only on the police, but also the public. Body cams can also protect police officers from false accusations of excessive force. While a visual recording taken from the officer’s perspective may not reveal all of the action, it will present strong evidence to be considered by those who must judge the conduct later and will foster proper behavior between police and citizens. The benefit of police wearing body cams far outweighs the financial expense of purchasing and operating the body cams. It is time to recognize the importance of police body cams and for government and police departments to fund the costs involved in providing each police officer a body cam and necessary equipment to preserve the recordings. It is also time for the federal government to assist local governments in bearing the costs of providing each police officer with a body cam.

The “Pope of Pop,” whose work will be on display at the Tampa Museum of Art beginning in June, was a man of many colorful hats. Throughout his life, Warhol was an entrepreneur, magazine publisher, advertisement illustrator and filmmaker in addition to being one of the most influential, political and controversial artists of the late 1950s and 1960s. Warhol was born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA and attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology at Carnegie Mellon University. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in pictorial design in 1949, Warhol began working in advertisement illustration in the Big Apple. A collection of the late artist’s work entitled, In Living Color: Andy Warhol and Contemporary Printmaking will be on display at the Tampa Museum of Art from June 20 through Sept. 20 and is a compilation of the artist’s work done in over 30 years. The collection, which includes pieces such as Warhol’s famous portrait of China communist leader Mao Zeong and the controversial yet haunting “Electric Chair,” are from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his family foundation. In addition, the exhibition will include the artist’s famous portraits of Marilyn Monroe. The Tampa Museum of Art has the exhibit displayed in five different categories—experimentation, emotion, experience, subversion and attitude. Warhol’s paintings are also paired with other famous artists of that time, including Chuck Close, Louise Bourgeois and Frank Stella.

Military Canines: America’s Underrated Heroes

WORKING DOG — U.S. Air Force military working dog Jackson sits on a U.S. Army M2A3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle before heading out on a mission in Kahn Bani Sahd, Iraq, Feb. 13, 2007. His handler is Tech. Sgt. Harvey Holt, of the 732nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron. U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Stacy L. Pearsall

Everyone knows dogs are a man’s best

friend, but few are aware that some special canines have the backs of some of the toughest men in America. Dogs can be dated all the way back to being used by conquistadors in Florida to track down Native Americans. Even in WWI, many dogs were used as messengers and again in WWII dogs were used to sniff out enemy posts and positions. Military dogs are trained to sniff out IEDs or improvised explosive devices. These dogs and their handlers are put at first risk for any bombs and landmines in order to clear the path for soldiers behind them. Combat canines have been seen as one of the Pentagon’s defense tactics against hidden terrorist bombs. The arsenal behind these tough pups lies in their nose. Navy SEALs and Marines utilize German Shepherds for their keen sense of smell, which is 40 times that of a human’s, and for their natural ability to search and acquire objects.

The Shepherd’s close cousin, the Belgian Malinois, has been seen paired with Navy SEAL’s in parachute missions. When parachuting into water, these brave canines fly solo. The Belgian breed has a more compact build making it the ideal choice to fly tandem with soldiers but they still maintain the speed and intellect needed for military missions alongside their smaller stature. Amongst these parachuting pooches, one named Cairo is famous for having helped in the mission to capture Osama Bin Laden. Fully equipped as much as any other soldier, military dogs are treated as full members of the Navy SEALs or any branch of the military. You can visit navyseals.com to see full diagrams and descriptions of the military canine vests and equipment, including a video camera to give handlers a view of battlegrounds before entering. There are about 2800 active-duty dogs in the military and 600 of those are being used in the Middle East.

94 TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

When it comes to training these special ops pups, former Navy SEAL Mike Ritland is renowned for training dogs the SEAL way. He emphasizes that the fundamentals of training any breed of dog are non-verbal communication and exuding respect through body language. Ritland’s book How to Train Your Dog - The Navy SEAL Way explains that changing your mentality on how your dog views you and vice versa will facilitate your dog’s growth to its full potential. For those of you interested in adding a German Shepherd to your family, Central Florida German Shepherds breeds dogs locally from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale.
