FRENCHMAN’S REEF & MORNING STAR MARRIOTT Experience “The Reef Life” in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands By Riesa Pascal To have the opportunity to travel to the Virgin Islands was an unforgettable experience all on its own, but to combine that with luxurious accommodations at Marriott’s cliffside retreat was a decision that took my vacation to an entirely new level of comfort and pleasure. It was there, in the heart of St. Thomas, where my companions and I experienced the incomparable benefits of “The Reef Life” travel package which starts at an astonishingly low $399 per night. When travelers book The Reef Life package, they will receive: - Water-view accommodations (a three-night minimum stay is required) - $200 Adventure Center credit to use on an excursion - $100 spa credit for Lazule Sea Spa - $150 food and beverage credit to use on-site True to their word, my gorgeous water-view room overlooked the sailboat-dotted Charlotte Amalie Harbor in downtown St. Thomas. Affectionately known as “The Reef,” the iconic Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort is just a moments drive (or ferry ride) away from the island’s best attractions. Nothing makes this more abundantly clear than waking up to the sight of a luxurious cruise ship gliding past your window to the island’s bustling port located nearby. Needless to say, I was excited about my first visit to the US Virgin Islands and I was honored to have arrived on the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Virgin Islands as an American territory. To celebrate the momentous occasion, my companions and I enjoyed the Centennial military parade in downtown St. Thomas as well as a joyous Centennial Ceremony. The pride and cheer of locals in attendance was beautiful to witness and I was reminded of how fortunate we were to have traveled to the beautiful and exoctic island of St. Thomas without losing the convenience and comforts of traveling within America. Everything from being able to travel without a passport to spending U.S. Dollars without the hassle of currency exchange makes St. Thomas an easy vacation getaway for American travelers. As mentioned above, The Reef Life package also comes with a $200 adventure credit to use on a diverse variety of exciting excursions. As the pulse of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas encourages its travelers to explore the very best of the area through a mix of activities that are available. Just one of the many highlights for me was the St. Thomas Cultural and Historical Sightseeing Tour where we explored some of the island’s iconic and picturesque sights including Drake’s Seat, 99 steps, Beacon Point, and Magen’s Bay Lookout. After reenergizing with authentic Caribbean food at Cuzzin’s Restaurant in the historic downtown district, we were off again to Frenchtown Brewing Company in the bohemian fishing village of Frenchtown. There we got to sample small-

batch, tap only craft beers made locally in St. Thomas. With average temperatures ranging in the 80s year-round, it was practically mandatory to swim through the island’s beautiful turquoise waters and get up close and personal with exotic marine life during a snorkeling excursion to St. John. For those of us who wanted to keep the thrills going long after the sun had set, night kayaking proved to be the perfect excursion and it was located just steps away from the resort. Through clear bottom kayaks retrofitted with powerful LED nights, we explored the harbor filled with tarpon, rays, sea turtles and other marine life that swam past our kayaks. One may need a little R&R after experiencing so much adventure out, about, and around the island! With $100 worth of spa credits for Lazule Sea Spa, The Reef Life package will ensure you get that relaxation while you receive the ultimate spa experience in a setting with spectacular Caribbean views. Frenchman’s Reef ’s ultra luxurious Lazule Sea Spa and Salon is the premiere boutique spa experience in the US Virgin Islands. The spa embraces the power of the sea with use of marine extracts from oceanic plant life to restore balance and beauty through innovative skin and body treatments that are rich in vital trace minerals and complex nourishment. Their goal is to provide guests with a rich experience that will leave them
feeling renewed and refreshed in a beautiful, tranquil setting. Lazule Sea Spa features 8 treatment rooms including a couples suite, a steam room and a wet room with a Vichy Shower. The spa also features a jacuzzi, cold plunge and a private spa pool with chaise lounge chairs, poolside cabanas and spectacular views of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor. The welcoming oasis also boasts a full service salon featuring hair, makeup, nail services and retail shopping to enhance your relaxation experience. Although there are endless options for authentic and delicious local dining around the island, I would be remiss not to mention just a few of the six on-site restaurants and bars available for resort guests to enjoy. Best of all, The Reef Life package has you covered with a $150 food and beverage credit to use on property. First, I strongly suggest you fuel up for the day with a breakfast at Aqua Terra which showcases spectacular views of the famous harbor through dramatic ceiling to floor windows. A multitude of breakfast options all under $30 included everything from buffet to continental to grab-ngo dining and more. For a laid-back meal with more incredible ocean views, my companions and I enjoyed lunch at Coco Joe’s. The beachside cafe offered Caribbean bites, Spanish tapas, soups, salads and some of the best paella on the
island. A dinner at Sunset Grill served up both classic St. Thomian views along with freshly caught seafood, hearty sides, decadent desserts and traditional favorites including pan-roasted chicken, seared scallops, and lamb with a rosemary reduction. Our final evening at the property was brought to a close with an oyster farewell dinner at the award-winning Havana Blue restaurant. After enjoying a perfect fusion of Latin American and Caribbean favorites, it was time to say our goodbyes to the breathtaking property that served as our exciting Caribbean refuge for several unforgettable days. Fortunately, The Reef Life package runs from now through December 22, 2017 so there is still plenty of time for you to sign up and experience your own island adventure. For booking, travelers can visit Frenchman’s Reef ’s website and enter promo code SO9. A sunny seaside retreat, St. Thomas is truly ideal for every type of traveler from the laid-back beachgoer to the adrenaline junkie craving an island-hopping adventure. With first-rate facilities, breathtaking views, and unforgettable adventures, there’s no doubt that Frenchman’s Reef is the one and only place to start your journey to discovering what “The Reef Life” is all about. SAN JUAN MARRIOTT RESORT & STELLARIS CASINO Let’s just call this a vacation!
The beachfront resort is conveniently situated five miles from Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, which means relaxation is just steps away from the very moment you land. The resort sits proud and regal over its prestigious location on Condado Beach and offers travelers a lucrative combination of adventure, local culture, and the opportunity to create lifelong memories. Though this trip was my second visit to Puerto Rico, it marked my first time as a guest of the San Juan Marriott and I was eager to experience firsthand the reputation that precedes it. Fortunately, I didn’t have to wait long as I arrived at the resort in under 15 minutes and was quickly checked into one of their 527 sophisticated guest rooms and luxurious suites. I stepped out onto my balcony overlooking breathtaking city and beachfront views that could only be visible from the resort which is located in the heart of Candado. From the physical decor to the air around me, the feeling of luxurious Caribbean elegance was unmistakable and immediately I knew that this vacation would be like no other.
By Riesa Pascal
The courage to pull myself away from those stunning views required something extra special such as welcome cocktails with my companions at what’s been dubbed one of the most exhilarating bars and dance floors in the Caribbean! By day, San Juan Marriott’s Red Coral Lounge is a great location to grab a cup of joe while taking advantage of the lobby’s free Wi-Fi. By evening, resort guests mix and mingle with local crowds that dance the night away to live music and Latin beats. After enjoying our welcome cocktails at the bustling lounge (which features decor inspired by the island’s top local artists and sculptors), we were off to Santurce, also known as Puerto Rico’s art and music district. Throughout Santurce, travelers are met with numerous options for tasty gastronomic dining including Lote 23, an outdoor food space divided into four terraces that brings together 16 culinary concepts including a rotational kiosk. My companions
and I enjoyed a local beer, the smells of Puerto Rican favorites, and colorful murals by local artists as we strolled through the festive food court and took in all the ‘El Lote’ had to offer. I could hardly contain my excitement the following morning as we set out to experience something that my other Puerto Rican vacation hadn’t made easily accessible—the cultural and historically rich city of Old San Juan. As the oldest city in Puerto Rico, San Juan was full of age-old beauty and historic tales. The 475 year-old neighborhood is a 47-square-mile area located on the western half of the island. For several hours we soaked up just a few of Puerto Rico’s many incredible attractions including everything from colorful buildings, monuments and graffiti artwork to shops and friendly roadside vendors. One of the notable highlights was the popular tourist attraction, Castillo San Cristobal, also known as Fort San Cristóbal. The site and our spirited tour guide brought us back in time as we climbed through hidden passages and explored antique weaponry used to protect the transportation of gold and silver at the historic Spanish port. After we had our fill of Puerto Rican history and culture, we headed to lunch and prepared to have our fill of homemade Puerto Rican cuisine! We dined at Cafe El Punto, one of the many exquisite restaurants of San Juan and it was there that I checked yet another item off my list of must-have experiences in Puerto Rico. That wish was simply to try mofongo, the island’s renowned fried plantains dish! Needless to say, I was far from disappointed as the taste of Puerto Rico came alive through a mix of seasonings that made each bite a delight to the palate. As I sampled my companion’s dishes and sipped a refreshing, yet ridiculously large strawberry margarita, I quickly found out that Puerto Rican culture includes incredibly generous portions in both food and beverages! Fortunately, my appetite TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM |

returned by dinner time and I was able to enjoy another exceptionally unique dining experience with my travel companions. It was nonstop laughter and oneon-one foodie fun as we took part in a thrilling cooking class at Cocina Abierta. The passion Chef Karina Santiago and her team shared for their craft was evident as they taught us how the cooking techniques, flavors, traditions, and culture of the island can come together for an unmistakably authentic meal. The following morning, I fueled up with a hearty breakfast at the resort’s La Vista Latin Grill before embarking on a morning excursion to El Yunque National Forest. The name is attributed to an Indian spirit that translates into “Forest of Clouds,” which is also the name of the main mountain peak in the forest. The only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, El Yunque spans 28,000 acres and welcomes 600,000 visitors a year. It was there that we experienced La Mina Trail which is one of the most popular hikes of the rainforest. The path took us through the dense evergreen forest containing 240 native tree species (26 found only at El Yunque), and masses of vines, 50 native orchids, epiphytes, giant ferns, and mosses. The hundreds of animal and plant species were a sight to behold as we trekked only the paved trail that ended at La Mina Falls, a beautiful 35 foot waterfall. Upon arrival, we stripped down to our bathing suits and joined dozens of other hikers for a refreshing swim in the natural pool as cool waters cascaded over the rocks around us. Though we could’ve easily spent the whole day at El Yunque, there were more adventures to be had back on property such as enjoying the San Juan Marriott’s two-level pool and swim-up bar before taking part in a traditional pig roast at La Vista Latin Grill. Pig roasts are a staple in Puerto Rican cuisine and culture and we relished in the authentic cookout with mouth watering trimmings and a side of gorgeous resort views. Though we drank, laughed and dined until the sun had faded into the evening sky, it was clear that our night was far from over. In fact, one might say the real fun had only just begun! San Juan Marriott offers one of the liveliest casinos on the island, and we were not about to let that experience pass us by. The 24-hour, 12,700-square-foot Stellaris Casino offers Caribbean stud poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and more than four hundred slot machines. In addition to boasting the greatest number of penny slot machines in Puerto Rico and the highest betting limits on the island, the Stellaris Casino also provides complimentary $20 match play coupons at check-in. With modern guest rooms, multiple pools, on property dining options, a non-stop casino, a happening lobby bar, and a stretch of golden beach, it goes without saying that the San Juan Marriott caters to every traveler’s indulgence. Simply put, my stay on property led me to experience an authentic vacation in the truest, most pure sense of the word and I’d encourage my fellow Floridians and travelers to do the same. Come and experience the exotic nature, life and culture of a historical Caribbean island with the convenience of traveling within America. While you’re here, stop by Ocean Club Spa for a variety of relaxing treatments including scrubs, wraps, facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, and more. Take advantage of yoga, aqua aerobics, cardiovascular equipment, tennis courts and even personal trainers all available through the Ocean Club Fitness Center. Expand your palate as you enjoy a variety of restaurants and bars that deliver the unmistakable flavors of Puerto Rico. With the warmth and hospitality of the Puerto Rican people and the Marriott brand, a charming vacation awaits you at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and I for one can’t wait to return.

OUT & ABOUT
“The range of land to pick from makes Florida perfect for a wide skill set of campers.”
As summer comes to an end and the long-felt humidity of August dies down, Florida becomes ideal for outdoor recreation. From the stationary wetlands to the ever changing flatwoods, Florida’s diverse environment provides an array of scenery that many residents have never stepped out into. As the temperature drops and brief showers help cool the area, fall and winter create the best conditions to get out and explore. For the most rich and immersive experience, there is no better option than camping. While the shift in weather grants better conditions, the range of land to pick from makes Florida perfect for a wide skill set of campers. Flat, dry conditions are perfect for beginners as they offer a no hassle experience to test equipment and learn the basics. It is important to take gradual steps into more difficult terrain, so that campers can feel comfortable and adequately prepare. No two campsites will ever be exactly the same and each new location will bring new challenges. While this can be daunting, the challenge of meeting all of these needs makes for new knowledge with every campsite and environment encountered. Some campsites will be set up to make roughing it easier than others. You can even avoid roughing it all together and plan a trip with iTrekkers and their outdoor adventure guides. The company offers two options for camping in the West Central Florida area; no hassle camping and a guided trip. Both trips include setup and cleanup of a full campsite, however they meet different interests. The no hassle trip is great for taking a step into the wild and becoming comfortable in a solitary setting. The guided trip is the next step towards independence and gives campers the chance to learn basic camping skills from a professional guide. As campers gain prowess and confidence in their abilities, exploring more wild terrain becomes feasible. Harsh landscapes such as wetlands will be hard to come across, but the best identifier is State Parks and Wilderness Preserves. Fee’s are often no more than $6 when reserving campsites and free for remote campers. Often exciting to skilled remote campers is the requirement of adding to their collection of knowledge and equipment to survive in new areas. Camping remotely also offers the best option for minimally controlled adventures and experiences. Some areas to consider are around the
Hillsborough River, Lithia Springs, Little Manatee River, and E.G. Simmons Regional Park. Camping not only offers a new skill set and an introduction to the land, but also the ecosystems in them. Residing in an area temporarily gives you the opportunity to go on a hike and explore local animals and their environments. The rare and protected creatures that own the name Florida panthers actually reside in the Southwest; in the Green Swamp and Big Cypress area. And common to Florida’s grasslands are many insects, including the Gulf fritillary butterfly and the fire ant. Both small and large, every environment will offer something different that may present new challenges. However, entering these areas offer the best chance to see animals in their natural habitat, often with no human contact, which helps promote statewide ecotourism. Going into remote areas of the state also offers a better look at the night sky. Similar to wild land and animals, the sky has areas called “dark spots” that offer the best non light polluted glimpse into space. In these extremely rare spots, the human eye can see close to 2,500 stars versus the 100 seen in a rural backyard. While offshore offers the best chance of dark spots, sites like Darksitefinder.com may help influence a selection of location on land. If the weather is right, leave the tents tarp off for the night and chance a look at the stars. With help from the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club and free electronic apps like Star Chart, campers can learn to identify constellations, planets, galaxies, and more. Two highly recommended areas for stargazing include pulling off road at Fort De Soto or near the Alafia River. Before finalizing any decision on a campsite, always make sure an area is legal to camp in remotely and conduct the proper research needed to prepare for the area. Large parts of Florida are home to the Florida black bear, common racoon, and two species of skunks. Knowing how to properly store food and utilizing provided food safes and trashcans can help prevent encounters. Cleaning up any indications that humans are present will also assist in the “No Trace” law to preserve and respect nature and other visitors. Doing so will help provide the best outdoor recreation beyond city lines for years to come.

Fall fave colors Ditch the summer neons, it’s time to embrace natural neutrals. Neutrals are available to compliment every skin tone and play a part in every color. Browns and nudes are especially appealing and look professional. When it comes to metallics, avoid silver and go with a gold. If a darker look suits you, vampy colors are always approved. Try a maroon or cherry red. Blue can be tricky, but try to find grey or purple tones, like navy. If ever in question, look for a warm tone that will compliment your most natural or darker wintery outfits.

Planning time to achieve perfect hair can be stressful, especially when it comes down to an already hectic week. For business or play, a relaxing 20-40 minute blowout could be the remedy. Appropriately cared for, a blowout can last from three days up to a week. To achieve flawless results don’t worry about having to hunt down a blow dry bar. Skip the cut and color at any salon for a basic wash and dry. While this seems obtainable at home, going to a salon ensures quality products and professional methods. A
lavish scalp massage will also increase blood flow to your hair follicles for growth. A blowout typically involves styling with a round brush but can range from modest texture to curls. Performed at a salon, there should be no frizz or flyaways from unpracticed hands. In order to best care for a blowout, stylists recommend the simplest of tasks. Add volume by flipping your hair and teasing with hairspray, and minimize oiliness using a dry shampoo bar or spray. For around $30, it’s hard to beat a relaxing 4o minutes and runway ready hair.
What having your nails done really tells people Keeping up with your nails can be tedious, but what do they tell a person about you? Having constantly painted and perfectly sculpted nails often gives off the appearance of wealth and good time-keeping. It’s a known fact that it takes some extra dough and impeccable organization to make regularly scheduled nail appointments. On the other hand, chipped polish can be perceived as equally lazy and busy. Who has time for the little things like nail upkeep when you’ve got a business to run? Most people however, would agree that having no polish is better than chipped. Clean nails with an appropriate length show good hygiene and professionalism, often associated with a corporate setting. What do you think when noticing other people’s nails?

With haircuts, especially with hairstyles today, the 60’s pompadour is coming back in its own modernized way. The late and great Elvis Presley rocked the look in his music career, and it has been a popular men’s hairstyle ever since. The key to maintaining that thick mane is to really get the sides short, and grow the top portion of your hair to that ideal length, wet it down, and mold it to that perfect shape. Apply a couple layers of Paul Mitchells hairspray, and you’re out the door looking sexy and slick like a brand new Ferrari. Another very popular hairstyle that seems to never really get out of style is the Caesar haircut. Men especially with curly hair can really pull this off. The horizontal straight cut bangs, the tight sideburns, and the textured layers have always complimented men’s hair, since those blunt short bangs really minimizes the appearance of a receding hairline. That’s one of the main reasons why it’s so popular. It’s the typical go-to in today’s hair looks. Tapered hairstyles really give that illusion of a fade, but instead of using actual clippers, barbers would use scissors to shorten those edges and

make them skin tight. With the tapered look you can achieve a variety of looks, have some texture up top, slick it back all the way, or part it to the side. There’s many different options you could do and still look your absolute best. The bigger the hair the bigger the personality. The mohawk is no exception. It has come a long way since its booming debut in the punk scene. All mohawk hairstyles feature a single strip of hair down the center of the scalp with shaved sides. Different styles sprout with the strip of hair. Ethnic hair can pull off the best mohawks because of the thickness and texture. It could be dyed in any color and would still look good. And let’s not forget thick stripped mohawks, with straight shaved lines on the side--sexy! With great hair comes great opportunities. Maintain your masculinity and your pride with a healthy head of hair. Don’t forget to always check your hair before walking out that door because great hair makes the best first impressions.

You may swear up and down you’ve never seen a movie starring Mark Sinclair Vincent, but I’m willing to bet you’re familiar with The Fast and the Furious star Vin Diesel. Have you ever heard a song by Declan Patrick McManus? No? Maybe because you’re more used to the stage name Elvis Costello. It’s quite a common practice for celebrities to go by names that differ from the moniker given to them at birth, but not every stage name is as obvious as Ice Cube or 50 Cent. Take a look at the real names behind some of your favorite A-list celebrities.

LOUIS C.K. The stand-up comedian and actor was born Louis Szekely which is pronounced “See-kay.” His stage name is actually just an easier way to say his last name! Clever, huh?
JAMIE FOXX Eric Marlon Bishop changed his name to the gender-ambiguous Jamie in order to get a better set time when he was doing stand up as women were often called first. Adding the last name Foxx was a reference to one of Jaime’s favorite sitcom stars, Sanford & Son’s Red Foxx.
STEVIE WONDER The legendary Stevie Wonder was born Steveland Hardaway Judkins. As a child, many people were astounded by his ability to play numerous instruments and sing at the same time which led to them calling Stevie “A Little Wonder”.
GENE SIMMONS KISS rockstar Gene Simmons was born Chaim Witz in Israel. After immigrating to America, Chaim changed his name to the easier to pronounce Eugene and took his mother’s surname of Klein. Eventually Gene Klein adopted “Gene Simmons” as a stage name.
BRUNO MARS The Grammy-award winner Peter Gene Hernandez was given the name Bruno by his father as he was a chubby baby and resembled the wrestler Bruno Sammartino. The singer later added Mars to the end as he reportedly said, “A lot of girls say I’m out of this world, so I was like I guess I’m from Mars.”
MARILYN MONROE Few know that this platinum blonde bombshell was born Norma Jeane Mortenson. DON’T MISS THE BEAT by Courtney Caggiano
Summer may be fading, but on September 29th things will be heating up once again as Enrique Iglesias takes the stage at Amway Center in Orlando. This year, Iglesias is returning to the sunshine state with Miami’s own international superstar, Pitbull. After teaming up for their first tour together in 2011, Iglesias and his most compatible music personality have joined forces to shake up the night with their iconic latin flair.
From their tour’s launch in June, the duo has gained a position on Billboard’s list of top-grossing tours of 2017, earning the second-highest amount during the first leg of touring out of all international tours. Currently traveling the road through their 35 concert stops, Iglesias and Pitbull reached over $18 million within the first four weeks of the tour, including two nights of performances in Madison Square Garden.
Although Iglesias is famous for his own captivating live performances, he seems to have found a co-headliner who takes his sold-out shows to the next level. The Grammy Award-winning sensations have both entranced audiences on their own, with multi-platinum albums and skyrocketing ticket sales, but they have taken the latin world by storm as a combined act.
Perhaps the most exciting attraction that draws audiences to Iglesias’ concerts is the unexpected surprises that the singer throws into his shows. Who could forget Iglesias’ iconic live version of “Hero,” during which he would sing to a woman in the audience and leave her with a kiss? Even at his Los Angeles performance in June, Iglesias took an opportunity to teach the crowd a little Spanish before his song, “Cuando Me Enamoro.” Now, with Pitbull along for the ride, there’s no telling what Iglesias will bring to the party at his enthralling set in Orlando.
With 100 million albums worldwide and a long list of latin music awards including Latin Grammys, Iglesias has become a master of engaging his fans with music that transcends both culture and language and creates a spirit of energy and vibrancy to make the singer’s live tour a not-to-bemissed event.

After Puerto Rican Luis Fonsi’s smash hit “Despacito” exploded Top 40 radio with Spanish spice—the first Spanish-language tune to climb to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart since “Macarena”— it’s no surprise that tickets to Iglesias’ Orlando tour stop are selling out fast. Iglesias and Pitbull will be joined by latin boy band CNCO, winners of the first season of La Banda, a new Simon Cowellcreated talent series produced by Ricky Martin.
One thing is certain: Iglesias is sure to liven up Central Florida with his charttopping latin hits. Enjoy the night as Enrique serenades you with songs like “I Like It,” “Bailando,” and “Duele el

THE MOST POWERFUL 911 OF ALL TIME The fastest and most powerful road-approved 911 is ready for launch: The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS celebrated its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. At the heart of this high-performance sports car is a 515 kW (700 hp) biturbo flat engine. Weighing in at 1,470 kg with a full fuel tank, the lightweight two-seater accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The rear-wheel drive Coupé has a top speed of 340 km/h, and with its near-motorsport drive technology, the new 911 GT2 RS trumps its 3.6-litre predecessor by 59 kW (80 hp) and achieves a torque of 750 Newton metres (an increase of 50 Nm). The engine builds on that 3.8-litre in the 911 Turbo S at 427 kW (580 hp). In order to increase performance, large turbochargers push an increased volume of process air into the combustion chambers. A new additional cooling system delivers optimum cooling at peak loads and, at very high temperatures, sprays the charge-air cooler with water. This causes the gas temperature to fall in the overpressure range and ensures optimum power output, even under extreme conditions. The customised GT seven-speed double-clutch transmission (PDK) in the new GT2 RS enables power to be transferred with uninterrupted traction. What’s more, the specially developed exhaust system is made from extra-lightweight titanium, weighs around seven kilograms less than the system used in the 911 Turbo and delivers an emotional sound without precedent. For the first time ever, Porsche Design is celebrating the debut of the high-performance sports car by releasing a special-issue watch. Offering a nod to the world of motorsport, the 911 GT2 RS watch is exclusively available to owners of the new vehicle and can only be ordered in conjunction with the new GT model at a Porsche Centre from June 30, 2017. Racing chassis for outstanding dynamic cornering Discipline in sport means mastering every detail. And in the world of super sports cars, cornering speeds are on another level. The 911 GT2 RS reaches these speeds thanks to its flawless racing chassis with rear-axle steering and Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyres. Like all GT sports cars, the new top model features a specially calibrated PSM with a Sport mode that is tailored to provide optimal driving dynamics. Powerful air intakes and outlets and the imposing rear wing emphasise that the vehicle’s aerodynamics have mastered both form and design. The large, wide wheels (265/35 ZR 20 at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 at the rear) ensure outstanding braking and cornering forces. The 911 GT2 RS features Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) as standard. The front wings, wheel housing vents, outer shells on the Sport Design exterior mirrors, air intakes on the rear side sections and parts of the rear end are made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFR), as are many of the interior components. The bonnet is also made from carbon to make the vehicle as

lightweight as possible, while the standard trim roof is made from magnesium. Both body parts have a wide lateral swage line. A truly sporty interior The passenger compartment of the 911 GT2 RS is dominated by red Alcantara, black leather and interior parts with a carbonweave finish as standard. The GT2 RS sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles enables quick and sporty gear changes. Drivers and passengers experience the driving dynamics of the highperformance sports car in full bucket seats with a carbon-weave finish. As in every 911, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is the central control unit for audio, navigation and communication. The Connect Plus module and Porsche Track Precision app are also included as standard, enabling detailed recording, display and analysis of driving data on a smartphone. The optional Chrono Package expands the PCM functions to include performance display, which can be used to display, save and evaluate track times. The package also includes a stopwatch on the switch panel with both analogue and digital display. What’s more, the Chrono Package on the 911 GT2 RS comes with a lap trigger. Using the Porsche Track Precision app in conjunction with external markers on a start/finish straight, this lap trigger enables drivers to record lap times with a high level of precision. Exclusive watch to accompany the car: Porsche Design 911 GT2 RS Chronograph Porsche Design has teamed up with Porsche Motorsport to develop the 911 GT2 RS Chronograph for customers of the new super sports car. It is reserved exclusively for 911 GT2 RS drivers. At its heart is the first clock movement developed by Porsche Design, the product of three year’s work. The calibre 01.200 includes a flyback function, a load-path-optimised movement bridge and an official COSC certificate of authenticity. The timepiece housing is made of lightweight titanium. The flyback function is inspired by motorsport and represents a special feature of the Porsche watch. On a traditional chronograph, the buttons must be pressed three times in order to measure consecutive time intervals: The first press stops the chronograph, the second resets it and the third restarts the measuring process. On chronographs with a flyback function, these processes happen automatically and in rapid succession. The stop function and the ongoing time display are clearly separated using yellow markings. Many of the details on the timepiece are based on the high-performance sports car. The tungsten winding rotor is modelled on the rims of the 911 GT2 RS. The clock face is made of carbon, while the design of the time display matches the instrument cluster and the tachometer. The 911 GT2 RS and its watch counterpart are exclusively available at Porsche Centres worldwide. The vehicle and watch are produced individually in line with customer wishes and delivered together.

Abaco, Eleuthera and more. You don’t just have to experience the Bahamas during summer. The islands are closer than you think.
South Bimini is know to be the possible site of the famous Fountain of Youth and home to lost continent of Atlantis. With resorts and condos located along the shoreline you can expect beautiful views at any spot on the islands
Did you know that the Bimini islands are the closest chain of Bahama Islands to Florida? North and South Bimini are only 60 miles away, nine square miles long and packed with history and interest.
Being so close to Florida, Bimini can seem like a ghost town because of the boater community that constantly is going back and forth to Florida.
North Bimini settled in 1848 became famous during prohibition as it was used mainly for storage for Florida Rum Runners.

HEMP. Hemp isn’t the type of marijuana that gets you high (otherwise your hemp-seed juices would have a much different post-workout effect…).

IN THE KNOW
Pay attention this fall, because hemp
is hitting the runways. Well, it has been for years. Derek Lam, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, YSL, Versace… the list goes on. High-caliber fashion houses have been blending hemp in their textiles for years, and for good reason. Hemp is sustainable, biodegradable, affordable and eco-friendly.
.
But is it legal in the United States, federally? Yes. Well, sort of. It’s legal to import hemp products from other hemp-producing countries. Hemp isn’t the type of marijuana that gets you high (otherwise your hempseed juices would have a much different post-workout effect…). You see, hemp is different than its sister strains of cannabis; it’s a particular strain of cannabis which has been genetically bred to produce male plants, which contain little or no THC (the psychotropic compound in the cannabis plant). Hemp is stalky, durable and fastgrowing, and has been used for hundreds of years as a sustainable fabric. In fact, hemp crops were brought over from Britain to Colonial America in the 1600s and relied upon heavily for production of sails for ships due to its durability, resistance to decay and climate adaptability. Bob Reilly, manufacturer of Florida-based hemp clothing company Sativa Fashion Brand and co-owner of Highlife Media is a staunch advocate for use of the sustainable fiber in all things from clothing to car interiors. While everyone is nail-biting over the legality of use of the cannabis that currently sits as a Schedule 1 narcotic, Bob is busy educating the public on the history of hemp and why it’s destined to rebound as one of the world’s most important industrial crops.

eco-friendly materials. Hemp leaves a small carbon footprint. It actually absorbs CO2, potentially reducing the overall carbon footprint. It requires less water and land use than cotton. It grows like a weed – well, it is a weed – so minimal care, fertilization and pesticide use is required. It strengthens fibers it is blended with, is more durable than cotton and gets softer with use. And been around a heck of a lot longer than your poly-blend tracksuit – the first historical recordation of hemp use was discovered off the coast of an ancient Chinese village dating back 10,000 years. So what are we waiting for? Well, the “legalization of marijuana” conversation will continue to complicate things. First, because hemp is a fast-growing male plant (and males love to spread their seeds), the states that have legalized marijuana are in a position to also regulate the growth of hemp crops, with the goal to keep them away from each other. Why? Because the coveted female plant – the “narcotic marijuana” – can turn hermaphrodite, or full-blown male – if exposed to other male plants. Even a small gust of wind can carry the unwanted pollen from hemp to carefully cultivated female cannabis crops, essentially destroying the salability of the crop. So, as our legal marijuana climate continues to expand, as does our need to commit endlessly to our ailing climate, we will need to set aside our differences and find a way to co-exist. And we can certainly look good doing it.
It’s a no-brainer that we are beyond being mildly concerned about our carbon footprint. It’s urgent at this point, and this is one of the biggest arguments hempadvocates – which include major fashion houses – relies upon when advocating their pro-hemp agenda. Do not confuse pro-hemp use with pro-legalization-ofmarijuana use. Generally those who tout the benefits of hemp are pressing a more important agenda – the use of sustainable,

UNLEASHING HOPE Stem cell therapy for pets
By Hannah Filiatreau Animals contribute to our happiness and health in many ways. They can alleviate stress and have been proven to increase our oxytocin or “love hormone” levels. Some pets even assist with or warn of mental and physical health episodes. These facts considered, there should be no surprise that Americans spent $66 billion to keep their pets healthy and happy in 2016; according to the APPA. One up and coming treatment being spent more on is stem cell therapy. A form of regenerative medicine, stem cell therapy is most commonly used to treat arthritis in animals, as well as a wide range of other ailments. “Regenerative Medicine is a broad definition for innovative medical therapies that will enable the body to repair, replace, restore and regenerate damaged or diseased tissues.” In humans stem cells are used for a variety of treatments, such as skin grafts, bone marrow transplants, and to treat specific types of cancer. One pioneer of stem cell research and therapy in animals is VetStem, a biopharma located in California. VetStem has chosen to use adipose stem cells, primarily known for fat storage, as they are multipurpose and regenerative. Choosing the type of stem cell is important as some can develop into more cells than others. VetStem Regenerative Medicine uses concentrated adult stem cells from the same animal to treat their traumatic or degenerative diseases. This can include bowed tendons, ligament injuries, osteoarthritis, and osteochondral defects in horses, dogs and cats. More recently, studies have been conducted involving slipped discs in animals a “shock absorber” that sits between vertebrae of the spine. Also found in humans, the degeneration of these discs often cause pinched nerves and sometimes paralysis. Procedures are completed at a local veterinarian’s office, and when conducted go as follows: “stem cells are extracted from the bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, or fat of either your pet or another animal of the same species. A veterinarian injects the stem cells into the diseased area, such as a knee joint damaged by osteoarthritis. The cells move to the inflamed or damaged tissue, suppress the inflammation, relieve pain, and cause new

tissue to grow. This new tissue is more like the original tissue than the scar tissue that would typically grow in an untreated inflamed area.” By far the most common uses of the therapy is to treat osteoarthritis - a disease that will impact 80% of dogs and 60% of cats. If your pet suffers from osteoarthritis, a common occurrence with hip dysplasia, ask your veterinarian for more information. This treatment is not a cure all and can be expensive. On average, prices run between $2000 to $3000 but can be more depending on an animal’s needs. Stem cell therapies are arriving at many veterinarians across the country, pending business approval. Check with your local veterinarian to see what services are provided and whether your pet may be a candidate.

Your journey has come to a satisfying end. But the Higgins and Clark expedition has only begun for Patrick and Gwyn. There are still relationships to nurture – yours and others they will soon meet who are yet to embark on their own journeys.
Starting Out… The journey ahead is one that most people undertake only a few times in their lifetime – buying and/or selling their home. Every adventure takes a different route. Every destination is as individual and personal as only the next home can be. Which is why it is wise to employ the services of professionals whose expertise you can rely upon to guide you from the beginning through journey’s end. CAPABLE HANDS. Patrick Higgins is a real estate broker and sales agent, licensed since 1974 and a multi-million dollar producer. For more than forty years he’s helped shape the landscape of the Central Florida real estate market, listing and selling custom homes and production homes in Winter Park, College Park, and throughout Orange and Seminole Counties. As a former owner of Higgins and Heath, Inc. Patrick had 325 agents, 7 offices and a mortgage company all working for him and Orlando Magazine designated him a Real Estate Hot 100 Realtor multiple times. Gwyn Clark began her own real estate journey in 2008 when, as a genuine Winter Park native, she worked extremely hard and parlayed her extensive knowledge of Central Florida real estate into a very successful career. In her stint at a prior real estate company, Gwyn had such success listing and selling new homes

Simply navigating what lies ahead – initial property assessments, trend analysis for the area you’re interested in, establishing truly fair pricing, marketing, negotiating between interested parties, the legal landscape – requires a clear eye and a steady hand. Better to rely upon someone who does this for a living, someone who specializes in the areas and types of properties you’re considering, than to risk getting lost in unfamiliar territory. Today, Patrick and Gwyn have formed Higgins and Clark, a high-powered Realtor team working with Fannie Hillman and Associates. Together, they bring a unique combination of expertise and local knowledge that their buyers and sellers alike appreciate. It’s an ideal combination of talent and resources that sets them apart in a crowded and highly competitive marketplace. ALMOST THERE! None of us knows exactly what lies around the next corner. legal ability and ethical standards by Martindale-Hubbel. In addition to the preeminent rating in MartindaleHubbel, he is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© and Florida Super Lawyers. Mr. Horwitz is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Horwitz believes that defending a person’s liberty is the most important responsibility an attorney can undertake. In protecting a client’s freedom, Mark’s philosophy is that no stone is left unturned, all facts are thoroughly investigated, legal issues fully developed and all actions legally and ethically possible are undertaken for the defense. The lawyers and paralegals that work at the Horwitz firm help him carry out these principles.
MARK L. HORWITZ Criminal Defense Attorney
As an Assistant United States Attorney representing the United States, Mark Horwitz prosecuted all types of cases including healthcare fraud, tax evasion, wire and mail fraud, fraud against the government, drugs, and the murder of the Gotha Postmaster. The opportunity to prosecute these and other crimes provided Mr. Horwitz a solid basis to vigorously defend people under investigation for or charged with serious crime in both federal and state court. In private practice, Mark has defended people in federal court in Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville as well as Palm Beach, Ft. Pierce, Miami, Pensacola, Panama City and throughout the United States. Defending complex federal crimes, including healthcare fraud, tax evasion, securities fraud and mortgage fraud has been a major part of his practice. He has also defended clients in state criminal matters including white collar crimes, theft, bribery, and state sales tax. In non-white collar cases, he has defended clients in matters involving vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident with death, murder, drugs, child pornography, sex crimes and other offenses. Mark Horwitz is certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Criminal Trial Advocate and by The Florida Bar as a specialist in Criminal Trial Law. He has the highest possible rating in both
Horwitz utilizes a team concept of lawyers and Florida Bar Registered Paralegals in conjunction with modern technology when investigating, organizing evidence, and building a strong defense. Criminal investigations, especially involving white collar crimes, can take months or years. In pre-indictment investigations, the goal is to conduct a thorough defense investigation aimed at developing the facts to convince law enforcement and prosecutors that criminal charges are not warranted. By preventing criminal charges, the client is able to avoid the humiliation and emotional stress associated with indictment and arrest. In some cases, it is not possible to prevent the filing of criminal charges. In those situations, the pre-arrest defense investigation is important to a vigorous defense at trial. Criminal tax defense has always been a part of Mr. Horwitz’s practice. He has represented professionals such as doctors, dentists, architects, athletes, as well as business owners and other individuals under investigation and charged with violating criminal tax laws. He has tried many criminal tax cases and has been able to persuade the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice to close investigations without
prosecution. Mark Horwitz has also helped many clients with unreported offshore bank accounts enter and complete the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program, thereby avoiding federal arrest and criminal prosecution, and reducing civil monetary penalties. It is not unusual to deal with tens of thousands of documents and hundreds of gigabytes of computer data in white collar cases. To control such massive amounts of evidence, Horwitz utilizes the paralegals and the attorneys that work in his firm as well as cutting edge technology. Although technology is important, Mark believes that “there is no substitute for experience, hard work and diligence when defending a client’s liberty.” BAR ADMISSIONS

DESIGN TRENDS Quilty Pleasure You guessed it. Quilts are coming back this fall. And in more fabulous colors than ever before. Is that outdated duvet giving you nightmares? Get into the spirit of fall, quilts offer a nice touch in any traditional or modern home of today. Those soft fabrics and gorgeous colors offer a handmade, homey element to any bedroom.
Stay Wove Woven baskets always look pretty during the fall and are always recommended in any fall decor. Woven textiles and accents really bring depth to a room and give it personality.
FALL INTERIOR DECOR GALORE
Wall to wall interior looks that make your jaw drop Fall is here, and as the holidays are fast approaching, it’s that time of year where we bring out those pumpkins, some hot cocoa, and maybe even those sweaters (weather permitting). Interior styles for the fall season make way for the holiday spirit. Let’s freshen up on a couple different things you could stylize in your own home! For our color savvy audiences in Tampa, the 2017 pantone color of the year “Greenery” became a huge hit throughout the seasons. As you can see above, darker shades of Greenery makes a stark appearance as a tasteful cabinet color, painted
SWISH SWISH
Velvet fabrics swish their way in style Dark velvet is ideal for fall decor. It’s soothing, it’s luxury, it’s inviting. Not many fabrics that welcome fall and winter look good on furniture, but velvet pulls it off so well. The mixture of smooth metals, ceramics and rough natural textures gives visual enticement and overall tactile coziness to your home. And if velvet furniture just so happens to not be in your budget, velvet pillows and throw overs have the same effect.

against rich natural wood, which definitely give it the fall look. Dark painted wooden walls are sleek, modern and sophisticated. Good for the sophisticated person smitten with the dark side, and who also likes depth and drama. To achieve this look, go for a Deep Onyx or Black Flame pantone. With these new looks, you can enjoy the season that much more and say “sayonara” to those outdated designs of 2016.

MY STYLE ANNIVERSARY A look back on five magical years writing for Style Magazines! By Riesa Pascal
The story of how I began writing for Style Magazines is one that not many people know, but it’s a story that I hope will encourage you in the same way it encourages me when life isn’t exactly going as I’d planned. As you’ll come to see through my brief retelling of the events, God truly works in mysterious ways and sometimes what seems like your worst nightmare is actually just a door opening towards something greater. To share this story requires winding the clock back to the spring of 2012 when I was a senior at Florida State University. My final semester of college was coming to a bittersweet close and I had just finished ordering my graduation announcements when a new email popped up from the university. I immediately clicked the notification and then read with horror that an unknowingly missed course credit meant I was still one English course away from graduating with my double major in Creative Writing and Communication Studies. In the blink of an eye, all of my post-graduation plans came to a screeching halt and I was suddenly left with two options to receive the diploma I had worked so long and hard for: 1) Enroll in summer school and complete the missing course or 2) Substitute the missing credit with a summer editorial internship. With deadlines right around the corner, I opted for the latter and scoured the internet in search of a publication local to my hometown of Orlando that would allow me to join their summer internship program at such short notice (in spite of me having no professional writing experience). It was then, in the depth of my desperate search, that my prayers were answered in the form of an internship offer from Style Magazines. My first article as an intern was published in the Summer Double Issue exactly five years ago. It was a Don’t Miss The Beat story about Gotye, the Grammy award-winning artist who was dominating the summer Billboard charts with “Somebody That I Used To Know.” As long as I live, I’ll never forget the moment I picked up that glossy hard copy of Orlando Style Magazine, flipped to my article, and saw my name in print for the very first time. I was filled with a sense of joy, pride and immense awe that I had never felt
before. As I read and re-read over my printed words, it began to dawn on me that I was now a published writer. From that moment on, I was instantly and irrevocably hooked to this exciting new world of editorial and luxury lifestyle journalism. As I wrote more and fine-tuned my skills, it became abundantly clear to me that despite the regrettable mistake that brought me to Style Magazines, God had me exactly where I was meant to be. Fast forward to the final day of my summer internship and I heard seven words that changed the course of my life and led me down a path of magnificent adventures and opportunities that I could’ve never imagined.
to see what other exciting adventures the future holds. In celebrating how far I’ve come as a lead Style Magazines contributor, I would be remiss not to thank my wonderful mother for her immeasurable patience in listening to me read every single article out loud before submission. Whether in person or over the phone, she has always been ready to drop what she’s doing to hear my latest story and offer her unfiltered critiques. I laugh now as I think back on the grim email from that fateful day—the day I once dramatically called the worst of my life—and I can’t help but to thank God that something so disappointing led me to something so beautiful.
“Would you like to keep writing for us?” As you can imagine, my response was an eager and resounding “Yes!” and it is with great pride today that I now celebrate five years of contributing to leading luxury lifestyle publications, Orlando Style Magazine and Tampa Style Magazine. I’m honored to have been published in every issue released since my inaugural Summer Double issue and this very story you’re reading marks my 160th article. In the last five years, I’ve covered every topic you could possibly think of from health, beauty and fitness to music, fine dining and celebrity gossip. I’ve met and interviewed a variety of renowned celebrities such as Imagine Dragons, Twilight’s Ashley Greene, Dan Aykroyd, Wendy Williams, Steve Madden, and many more. I’ve traveled on 15 national and international press trips including Mexico, Aruba, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and Curacao. I’ve even represented Style Magazines live on both local and national television and that is just the tip of the iceberg. In the name of journalism, I’ve snorkeled with whale sharks, explored Mayan Ruins, hiked through a rainforest in a torrential downpour, slept in a teepee, hit speeds of 165 mph in a race car, driven a submersible scooter on an underwater safari, canoed across a bioluminescent bay in the middle of the night, jet skied through a Mangrove forest…the list goes on and on! Needless to say, it’s been a wild ride and an incredible five years and I can’t wait
