The number of passengers continues to grow strongly year on year, reflecting our board’s ongoing commitment to invest in our fleet, our people and our services, both on the ground and in the air. The airlines carried over 2 million passengers in the 2014-15 fiscal year, which was some 200 thousand more than the previous year. It is hoped that the new board chaired by retired Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari will oversee the coming of a ‘new dawn’ for the national flag carrier.

20 (Clockwise from above) Unwind your senses at thatched water resorts in Maldives; catch your fish and cook it with help from locals
WHEN
you head to Maldives, lounging on the beach is likely to be your primary pastime. Most people, when they think of Maldives, imagine the scenes that dominate the postcards and brochures: that delicious arc of coral-fringed reef you see on arrival from your buzzing seaplane, those white grains of sand, lustrous as pearls or the telling circles of brilliant blue atolls below let you know that you are soon to land in paradise. What’s good about Maldives is that you can tackle it without an agenda. There’s no list of must-do sights or attractions and each resort is on its own island. You can snorkel directly from your over-water villa, tootle along coral sands or wander aimlessly through tropical jungle vegetation and feel rewarded by simply getting lost. The sense of nostalgia it conjures – the sense of being a kid on holiday – takes over. Fishing with locals Fishing is an integral part of the local culture

FAST FACTS
Maldives has 1,200 coral islands of which 200 are inhabited. Maldives is Asia’s smallest country by area (298 sq km) and population (3, 24, 000). The literacy rate in Maldives is 98% due to excellent educational standards.
and the primary source of livelihood for the locals. A trip to the Maldives wouldn’t be complete without a catch and cooking your own fish. Fishing here is not merely a recreational activity for tourists visiting the place; it is one of the major means of livelihood for the Maldivian people. For many locals in Maldives, fishing is the biggest and important part of their existence.
Tip: Maldives fishing can be categorised into three types -- casual day fishing, big game fishing and night fishing. Surf the waves The biggest waves hit Maldivian shores from June through August, and the Atoll of Male is a perennial favourite with surfers. The best thing about boat trip in Maldives is the feeling of discovery, surfing perfect waves with no crowd in the water. Just you and your friends. Please note that you can only have this experience in Central and South Atolls. Male Atolls can be quite crowded, especially between May and August.
The best part about visiting Maldives is that you don’t need to have a things-to-do list

Tip: There are some great surfing spots in the country, but just a few are easily accessible from resorts. Wreck of the Maldive Victory The wreck of the Maldive Victory is an impressive and challenging dive because of the potential for strong currents. This cargo ship hit a reef and sank on Friday, February 13, 1981, and now sits with the wheelhouse at around 15m and the propeller at 35m. The ship has been stripped of anything movable, but the structure is almost intact and provides a home for a rich growth of new coral, sponges, tubastrea and large schools of fish.
Tip: This is where veteran divers go. The strong currents make diving here a challenge even for the pros. Whale Submarine This is probably one of the most outstanding attractions in the Maldives, especially for non divers. Currently the largest deep diving tourist submarine in existence, it carries 50 passengers to a depth of 150 m below the surface of the sea, providing a window to the marine world. The submarine is fully air-conditioned, has a normal atmospheric

The name, as is apparent to the visitor comes from its elliptical shape, which extends 300 meters from north to south. The reef is teeming with marine life, ranging from the common napoleon wrasse and moray eels to the rare bannerfish. Featuring several caves, overhangs and dramatic cliffs, it’s a great place for photo-ops.

Micronesian city of Nan Madol comprises a series of man-made basalt islands separated by a network of canals. Located on Pohnpei, more than 3,600km east of the Philippines in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, it’s no surprise that the site is fairly unknown. Back then, each island served a specific purpose, such as canoe building, cooking, caring for the sick and was probably roofed over with timber and palm thatch.

It attracted many Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans and was used as a religious site, with monumental temples devoted to gods such as Bacchus, Venus and Jupiter. The neighbouring Temple of Jupiter has massive Corinthian columns, which are said to be the largest in the world. At the base of Jupiter’s temple is

Built 5,000 years ago, during the Neolithic period around 3,200 BC, Newgrange’s rounded dome looks like a grass-topped UFO. It is considered one of the most important megalithic structures in Europe as per Irish folklore. The structure is made of alternate layers of earth and stone. This Unesco World Heritage site is ringed with a facade of white quartz stone. Inside is a chambered passage that stretches for 19m, ending with three small chambers thought to be ancient burial sites.
Ajanta and Ellora Caves, India
Ellora Caves are considered the zenith of Indian rock-cut architecture. The site’s 34 caves were carved from the stone face of the Charanandri hills between the 6th and 9th Century. Most valued for their ancient paintings and sculptures, the caves are the finest surviving examples of Indian paintings. The sheer size of the Kailasa Temple, which is carved from a single rock, is stunning. The Ajanta Caves are still a beauty even after 1,500 years. The caves were cut into cliffs between the 2nd and 7th century to The sheer size house Buddhist temples, shrines, prayer of the Kailasa halls and dormitories. Temple, carved from

Except for when they're in their private space, even non-Muslims are expected to follow the rules of fasting during fasting hours, which are between sunrise and sunset. But young children, pregnant women and elderly with health issues are exempted from fasting due to the threat it poses to their health. Work, but 2 hours less Work schedules are altered during Ramadan. As per guidelines set up by the UAE Federal Government for public and private sector companies, the working day is made two hours

Dhaka’s tryst with India has grown despite few contentious issues. Its movies are gaining popularity in India, a recent Indo-Bangladesh joint production - Shankhochil - has already picked up a national award in India. Its cricket is now considered among the world’s best, and its theatre, which almost works like a touchstone of life. Theatre in Bangladesh is almost an industry, pushed by the nation’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.

45 years ago, thousands of Bengalis beat an inclement weather on a wintry morning to receive Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the airport in Delhi. Thousands watched with awe as the leader, who was soon to assume the top position of his new nation, Bangladesh, raised his clinched fist. Thousands reciprocated, many sang Amar Sonar Bangla, Ami Tomai Bhalobashi.

"Let interests in culture grow, let such interests flow without boundaries,” Prosenjit Chatterjee
Bangladesh’s movies, theatre and cricket -are increasingly gaining popularity in India.
The inaugural GRT International Theatre Festival, held in New Delhi during mid April 2016, revived — after almost four decades — memories of an unique confluence of two Bengals. It was not lives on stages, it was — actually — conversations between two neighbourly nations after many moons. “Let interests in culture grow, let such interests flow without boundaries,” remarked Bengal’s top actor Prosenjit Chatterjee to a thunderous applause minutes before Shankhochil was screened during the festival. “We need more such plays crisscrossing the boundaries,” remarked Nuna Afroze, a celebrity director-actress from Dhaka whose play, Ami O Rabindranath, opened to packed audiences at the Muktadhara Auditorium in the heart of Delhi. The festival, curated by Anjan Kanjilal, a seasoned, young director who trained under the legendary Peter Brooks, was shaped on a desire to rethink relationships between people who create, watch and write about theatre. The idea was to push Bengalis across the world to take part in large-scale interactive shows, informal discussions and watch plays so that they become vocal and mobile. Kanjilal said he wanted to absorb the audience into an imaginary world, making their specific personalities irrelevant.

There is no doubt that this knot is one-of-a-kind. As opposed to the vast majority of tie knots, this one is produced by using the small end as the active end, creating a tapered fishtail braid-like effect. It’s a very fancy knot that will leave a great impression on your boss.

Trinity Knot
This beautiful knot has a three-way symmetry and resembles the Celtic Triquetra. The pattern converges at a center point, producing a very eye-catching effect. It might seem a bit intimidating at first glance, but the moves are actually fairly simple.
Van Wijk Knot
An augmentation of the Prince Albert, adding a third turning of the active end. When tied correctly, this long and slender knot creates a striking and unmistakable layered cylindrical effect. A very cool knot that works best with light colors. It’s best suited for narrow collared shirts and if paired with a vest.
Fishbone Knot
This awesome work of tie artistry is shaped in the form of a fishbone, hence the name. It’s a remarkable formal knot that is increasingly gaining respect. While

Fishbone knot is getting popular by the day. Though tying is a challenge, it never fails to make an impression
it is somewhat challenging to tie, it’s definitely worth the effort, because it never fails to make the ultimate impression.
Ellie knot works best with semi-wide collar openings
Ellie Knot
It’s a simplified variant of the Eldredge Knot, but easier to tie and consumes less fabric, leaving a tail that allows it to be tightened or loosened like a normal windsor. It works best with semi-wide collar openings.
Krasny Hourglass Knot
This is made up of the Four-in-Hand Knot with an additional knot tied using the small end right beneath the main knot, creating the hourglass look. It’s impossible to adjust after being tied, so you need to get it right the first time. You’ll achieve a great effect using striped ties.

UNDO IT RIGHT
NO WRINKLES PLEASE
STAIN FREE
Properly untie your tie is the first rule. Pulling the loop to pull your head out at the end of the day is considered improper.
After untying, wrap the tie around your hand then put it onto a table and keep it that way for a while to get rid of wrinkles.
Make every effort to protect your tie from stains during meals. Cover it with a large napkin or remove it if appropriate.

BORN
in Kolkata on May 7, 1861, Rabindranath Tagore was popularly known as Gurudev. His contribution to Bengali literature is unmatched and Tagore is solely responsible for lending Bengali literature and music a fresh lease of life. He gave poetry and verse a modern touch freeing it from traditional clutches of classical Sanskrit. Tagore became the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Let’s take a closer look at Tagore. 1. Tagore is known as the only person to have written the national anthems for two different countries. He penned Jana Gana Mana, the national anthem for India, and Amar Sonar Bangla, the national anthem for Bangladesh. 2. Tagore was issued the Nobel Prize twice. After the original medal, which he was awarded in
