Hometown History-Adventures in the Queen City Session II Led by Summit teacher Dr. Kristen Fleming, campers will journey through the history of our home: Cincinnati. Their mission is to venture through our city’s development from the home of Ft. Washington to a productive Porkopolis, and eventually to the modern ‘Nati. Beginning with its modest founding as a frontier town to the home of the Big Red Machine, Cincinnati had its moments at the forefront of the nation’s attention. Together, campers will immerse themselves in primary sources; explore its evolving landscapes such as the prominent riverfront with steamboats to a sprawling city connected by freeways; learn how the region addressed dangers like frequent flooding; and imagine a city that is very different from the one we experience every day- developing a greater appreciation for the features of the city along the way. A field trip to historic Cincinnati locations will cap the week! Grades 2-6 Instructor: Dr. Kristen Fleming Dates: August 2-6 Times: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee: $345 Study Skills and Skills for Life Transitioning from middle school to high school is a daunting task for many students. This course will fill up quickly so early registration is advised. Maximum of 20 students per session. Grades 8-9 Instructor: Kurtis Smith Dates: August 2-6 Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fee: $180
