Montessori Day Camp – Silver Knights of the Round Table: In this enchanting camp the children will journey to a magical kingdom where both brave knights and royal princesses embark on exciting quests! Children will create their own shields and crowns, build castles, and participate in fun “knightly” challenges, such as obstacle courses and pretend jousting with soft materials. Princesses will enjoy royal crafts, dress-up, and storytelling, while everyone works together to protect the kingdom and help others. This theme encourages imagination, teamwork, and a sense of adventure for all!
Dance – Aladdin: Come experience wonders of Agrabah this summer as your dancer learns to dance with the elegance of Jasmine, the charisma of Genie, the energy of Aladdin, and the zaniness of Abu! Each day your dancer will experience the joys that only a magic genie can provide through story time, ballet class, craft time, and themed choreography. Let us show you a Whole New World with a final performance on Friday where all of our dancers will put on a mystical showing of everything they learned throughout the week. A Mindful Experience for Young People:
Join us for a deep (and joyful!) dive into a mindfulness experience that will empower each camper in understanding stress and how our minds and bodies are connected. Campers will learn about central nervous systems and be introduced to a plethora of science/brain-based mindfulness techniques so that each child can discover what works best for them. Mindfulness is increasingly recognized as an essential educational tool as it supports and develops attention, emotional and cognitive understanding, executive function skills, bodily awareness and coordination. Children will enhance their total well-being while having a lot of fun!

Off the Wall Graffiti: In this multimedia workshop, students will learn to create themselves as a brand to be promoted through a variety of methods and materials. Students will experiment with creating depth and dimension in different styles of handwriting and how it applies to creating vibrant and exciting interpretations of text on everything from ceramics to acrylic paintings. This week-long class will be jam packed with artmaking as we explore different methods for making our own markers, inks, sketchbooks, stickers and more. Walk away with the skills to personalize your belongings as your tag makes its mark on the world.

Comic Book Creations:
Campers will create their own comic book or graphic novel as they learn how to create characters, script a scene, and draw action panels with narration. Campers will work with local comic book artists and take a behind-the scenes field trip to various comic book shops in the area. Each student will receive a comic book gift pack signed by the writer and artist included in the fee. Campers may wish to take both sessions to work on a longer comic project.

Summer Health: The course includes all material covered in the semester class and a variety of assignments, assessments, a research project and final exam. The workload is heavy and requires extensive reading and memorization. Students are expected to work up to four hours each day outside of class time and should plan for full days of study over each weekend. Bring snacks, drinks and lunch to class. To receive course credit, students must have 60 hours of contact with the instructor. Students must be present for each session. Any student who misses more than 240 minutes (~1 day) for excused or unexcused reasons will not be eligible for course credit and will need to repeat the course during the school year.

ACT Prep: This one-week course is ideal for students in grades 9-12 who plan to take the ACT on July 12. The class meets on the five days leading into the test and will offer intensive preparation on all four sections of the ACT: English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. All students will receive valuable feedback and personalized instruction based on their relative strengths and weaknesses. The class will break for lunch. Though the six-hour class may seem long, it moves very quickly and energetically, and lets students cram all the work of a month-long evening course into one week.

HSPT Prep: Every November, the HSPT is given to thousands of Grade 8 students applying for admission into area Catholic high schools. The exam affects the admission process and scholarship opportunities for some schools. This preparation course will focus on test-taking strategies and content area instruction. Students will have some work to prepare in between the scheduled class times.

Jump Start Reading: The Orton-Gillingham multisensory methodology to foster reading, writing and spelling will be used with students this week. Word attack skills, reading concepts and logical thinking of students are strengthened. Students learn to strategize through interactive language games and activities. Creative writing prompts exercise of skills. Reading and phonic games are played on the interactive Activboard. Students get a jumpstart on computer lab skills while practicing reading and writing.

Ready, Set, 1st Grade!: Get ready for an exciting week at our Summer Camp for incoming 1st graders! Superhero Academy: Create Your Own Heroic Adventure!: Calling all future heroes! Exploratarium Camp: Students are invited to join Mrs. Newton in Summit’s maker space, the Exploratarium. Transitioning from middle school to high school is a daunting task for many students. How can we better equip our children to be successful in high school? This course will offer some “secrets” to success, not only in high school, but ultimately in life. This is a course designed to prepare students for the expectations and demands of high school academics. We will work on study skills, emotional well-being, public speaking and what it means to be a high school student. The course is designed to give you a fresh perspective on what to expect and how to succeed in the high school environment.

College Essay 101: This class is designed for incoming seniors, especially those who plan to apply early to college and would like to get a head start on the application process. Learn what college admissions personnel are looking for in a college essay. Develop topics, outline, write, edit and revise college essays. Benefit from the knowledge and experience of college counseling experts. Enjoy a productive environment with motivated peers all working towards their personal goals. Students will have at least one college essay completed by the end of the course.

The Details
Sign In/Out: Campers must be dropped off and picked up in the carline (at the designated areas) by an authorized adult when they leave each day. If they are not picked up, they will be sent to after-camp care where a late fee will be assessed. This service ends by 4:30 p.m.
Extended Day: We offer childcare before and after camp for an additional fee. This care is from 8-9 a.m. and from 3-5 p.m. this option can be selected during online registration. Extended Day care is only offered for campers 18 months-Grade 4.
Dress: The appropriate dress for most days will be shorts, a T-shirt, tennis shoes and socks. Sandals are discouraged since they may pose a safety hazard with the gym or outside activities.
Snack: Snacks and drinks are provided throughout the day. If your child is staying all day, campers will need to bring a packed lunch and a drink.
Health Forms: All participants (including current Summit students) are required to have a current health form on file. Please complete the health information section on the registration site. It is the parent’s responsibility to notify summer camp staff, via email, of any allergies or required medications. Please also confirm this at the time of drop off or by messaging the camp administrator at holbrook_s@ summitcds.org.
Photographs: We will be taking many photographs of the children throughout the camps to use for future publications. Your summer registration includes a photo release that allows for us to do so, unless notified otherwise.
Waitlist: If a camp is full, you will be notified about the waitlist. You will be contacted if a space becomes available.
Cancellation: The Summit reserves the right to cancel any class or summer day camp. Fees will be refunded if a class or camp week is canceled.
Refund Policy: Refunds will only be granted if the request is made in writing (email) two weeks prior to the start of the camp to the summitsummer@ summitcds.org. No refund or reduction in fees is possible for a child who arrives late, leaves early or attends only part of a session.
