Taught by Summit Country Day faculty/staff, little learners will explore many different topics through nine themed weeks. There will be smiles everywhere as we explore, expand our knowledge, get outdoors, and unplug. Weekly themes will be modified to fit appropriate developmental and age levels Camps are run M-F, with the exception of Week 1 (May 30 - June 2). Prices will be adjusted to reflect the shortened week

Campers will learn easy recipes to prepare and enjoy. Along with cooking & art projects, children will taste and play with a variety of fun ingredients. This sensory exposure will allow children to experience new tastes, textures and smells in a non-pressured environment.

We love recycling! Campers will enjoy making things from recycled items such as toys, plastic containers, and things that we rescue from the trash. Children will explore while learning how the smallest changes can make a substantial difference.

Campers will enjoy hands-on learning in the great outdoors of Hyde Park during this week of fun Searching for animals in 45208 has never been better with everyday encounters in all directions. Campers will get dirty, learn about the landscape, and spend time with peers.

Campers will do a deep dive into the wonderful world beneath the sea They will explore creatures, habitats, and distinguishing features During this week of fun, children will search for hidden treasures that may be found under the sea and may even get wet while they try!

Young pastry chefs will explore the world of baking and confectionary fun while creating a delicious array of sweet treats. Campers will be introduced to the fundamentals of following recipes, measuring, food prep, baking, and decorating.

COLLEGE ESSAY 101

This class is designed for incoming seniors, especially those who plan to apply early to college and would like to get a head start on the application process.
Learn what college admissions personnel are looking for in a college essay
Develop topics, outline, write, edit, and revise their college essays.

UPPER SCHOOL HEALTH
INSTRUCTOR: Beth Simmons, Assistant Athletic Director, SCDS
The course includes all material covered in the semester class and a variety of assignments, assessments, research project, and final exam. The workload is heavy and requires extensive reading and memorization.
Students are expected to:
Work up to four hours each day outside of class time and should plan for full days of study over each weekend.

The Orton-Gillingham multisensory methodology to foster reading, writing, and spelling will be used with students this week.
Word attack skills, reading concepts, and logical thinking of students are strengthened They learn to strategize through interactive language games and activities. Creative writing prompts exercise these skills. Reading and phonic games are played on the interactive Activboard Students get a jumpstart on computer lab skills while practicing reading and writing

This math course allows students to strengthen math concepts, think creatively, and develop problem-solving skills.
Children will use interactive games and activities for addition and subtraction The games include Montessori math as well as materials to help with number sense, patterns, symmetry, algebra, and other math processes.
Campers will learn about architecture and then develop their own cityscapes LEGO® sets are used as manipulatives to enhance knowledge about shapes and symmetry Children receive a jump-start on computer lab skills while practicing math. After being introduced to the 3-D printer, students make their own creations.

HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST (HSPT) PREP
INSTRUCTOR: Mike Fee, Guidance Counselor, SCDS

Every November, the HSPT is given to thousands of Grade 8 students applying for admission into area Catholic high schools. The exam affects the admission process and scholarship opportunities for some schools. This preparation course will focus on test-taking strategies and content area instruction Students will have some work to prepare in between the scheduled class times

ACT TEST PREP
INSTRUCTORS: Dr James Lipovsky & Phyllis Williamson, Upper School Teacher, SCDS
This one-week course is ideal for students in grades 9-12 who plan to take the ACT on June 10. The class meets on the five days leading into the test and will offer intensive preparation on all four sections of the ACT: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science.
All students will receive valuable feedback and personalized instruction based on their relative strengths and weaknesses. The class will break for lunch. Though the six-hour class may seem long, it moves very quickly and energetically, and lets students cram all the work of a month-long evening course into one week

Transitioning from middle school to high school is a daunting task for many students. How can we better equip our children to be successful in high school? This course will offer some “secrets” to success, not only in high school, but ultimately life.
This is a course designed to prepare students for the expectations and demands of high school academics We will work on study skills, emotional well-being, public speaking, and what it means to be a high school student. The course is designed to give you a fresh perspective on what to expect and how to succeed in the high school environment

This camp will feature Skill Clinics and Game Play to help each player develop all facets of their game. Skills Clinics include: shooting, ground balls, defense, dodging, stick skills and face-offs. Camp staff will include All-Americans and Gettysburg graduates Dan and Paul Collura, current local college players, current Summit Lacrosse staff and prominent local high school coaches. Camp placement is limited and fee includes lunch, onsite trainer and lacrosse vendor.

INSTRUCTOR: Tricia Sundbeck has an extensive and varied background in dance, including soloist for The Cincinnati Ballet Company. She currently serves as CCM Preparatory Ballet Director, College Conservatory of Music at The University of Cincinnati.
Young dancers will be immersed in movement and imagination as they dance their way through beloved stories and develop an appreciation for music and dance. Each day they will dance, create a craft, and practice for a miniperformance at the end of the week.
The Princess & The Frog Hardworking, ambitious accidentally gets turned into a frog by her friend, Prince Naveen Hop along for the adventure!

Campers will work with local comic book artists and take a behind-the scenes field trip to a comic bookstore.

MOVIE MAKING FUN

Campers will brainstorm ideas, scout locations, script, film and edit a video project. Topics can range from comedy to action to adventure. It is up to the imagination! We will also be editing, adding special effects and music. Campers can post their projects online for the world to see. Then, everyone will enjoy a field trip to see a movie during the week.

Come explore how materials that would normally be disposed of can be reinvented into beautiful works of art! Campers will join Mrs. Carvitti to create masterpieces with materials available only during this week. Save the EARTH while at the same time creating some marvelous works of ART!

Acting like a different character? Movement? Being a part of a fun group?
Explore what it’s like to be an actor. Campers will work on short scripts, practice improvisation, create and build small props and sets, and perform a short scene or mystery at the end of the week for fun.
Deep Dive One
What is your favorite musical? How does the music move you? Is there a show that pulls at your core?
Take a deep dive into a new show every day. Campers will enjoy a production, discuss themes and relevance to the social environment today, sing karaoke, explore movement, and learn what they love about the theater! Be prepared to have open discussion, be creative, imaginative, compassionate, and have FUN! Snacks will be provided.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND BLAST
INSTRUCTOR: Robert Browning, Middle School Band Director, SCDS
The Summit Middle School Band Camp is open to all students entering grades 5-8, who have played a band instrument for one year or more Students will have fun playing great music, as well as learning some music theory and how to conduct the band! They will learn specific techniques to improve on their instruments and spend some time watching videos of professional musicians playing each instrument, as well as famous marching, symphonic, and jazz bands.

ARTFUL EATS: ADVENTURES FOR YOUNG COOKS

This camp for kids combines a love of food and creativity. The camp will teach children the basics of kitchen safety as well as proper use of tools we can find in a kitchen.
They will learn to read a recipe, prepare their space for cooking, and begin cooking delicious recipes The campers will work in teams through the cooking process to create their own unique dishes and other food-related creations.

SUSTAINABLE SUMMER

Spend a week exploring people, places, and ideas to create a more sustainable world! We will travel to a landfill, recycling center, water treatment plants, and nature conservancy center to learn more about how these places are managing the challenges of a growing population. We will then develop our own action plans to encourage others to live more sustainably and responsibly!
