Once upon a lovely time‌

2

It was a very pleasant day. QT Pi and his friends Peter and Patty were at the park. They were eating popsicles. ‘I sure do love this popsicle,’ said Peter as he slurped on it. ‘Try not to speak with your mouth full,’ scolded Patty who was always careful with her manners. All of a sudden, poof! The popsicles vanished from the children’s hands. Then the park disappeared. They found themselves standing in the middle of a field.

3

QT turned to his friends. ‘What on earth is happening?’ he asked. But both Peter and Patty had disappeared too! Poof again! A lady screamed that her purse was gone. Poof once more. A man stood without his pants! That’s when QT realised, things that started with the letter P were disappearing. ‘Thank goodness I’m wearing shorts,’ he thought as he ran home to his parents. But they were gone too. So were the police. This was all very bad news.

4

‘Someone must have stolen the golden letter P from the alphabet bank,’ he thought. QT dashed off at top speed to the bank. He met the guard standing outside. ‘Without the golden P in the bank, we are doomed,’ cried the guard. ‘Pancakes are my favourite food and my pet pig is gone forever.’ ‘I’m sorry to hear that,’ QT said. ‘Do you know who did this?’ The guard handed him a note. QT read it: Letter P is mine. I think it’s mighty fine. It’s pleasing, it’s pretty, it’s my prize. Whoever tries to take it from me, will get poo in his eyes! Signed, Prankster P.

5

‘I saw him escape into that tunnel,’ pointed the guard. ‘Come on, then, we’ve got to stop him,’ commanded QT. He grabbed the guard’s arm and they both slid down the tunnel. They couldn’t believe their eyes! There was a party going on inside. Gangster penguins were enjoying pepperoni pizza, pretzels and popcorn. The golden letter P stood on a table in the middle of the room.

6

A mean-looking penguin stepped forward. It was Prankster P. ‘Leave now or it won’t be pretty,’ he warned. ‘Give us the golden letter P and we won’t fight you,’ said QT as brave as ever. ‘No way,’ sneered Prankster P. ‘Letter P belongs to us penguins, not to you humans. You can take H.’ The penguins laughed. ‘P belongs to everybody,’ said the guard. ‘Now hand it over.’

7

Prankster P signalled to his gang. They lined up and began to throw fruit at QT and the guard. First peaches, then pineapples, next plums, pears and then, worst of all, papayas. Ouch, fruit could sure be painful! ‘I’m here for peace, but it looks like what you need is punishment,’ QT yelled. QT and the guard began to pack punches with all their might. They poked, pinched, pushed and pulled the gangsters so many times that the bad guys could no longer see straight. Pow, pow, pow! And then… Plonk! Prankster P fell to the ground.

8

‘Stop! This is too much for me to handle,’ he said. QT pounced right on top of him. ‘Not until you use the magic word,’ he said. Prankster P looked puzzled. ‘I don’t know any magic words. Stop!’ ‘I’ll give you one clue,’ said QT. ‘It starts with the letter P.’ ‘Um… um… oh yeah… oh yeah… I got it!’ said Prankster P. ‘Please!!!!’

9

QT stopped the punching, stood straight and dusted off his shorts. ‘That’s more like it,’ he said. ‘Now please hand over the golden letter P.’ Prankster P stood up and did as he was told. ‘Thank you,’ said QT. ‘We shall get this back to the bank. As for you Prankster P, remember one thing - it is always better to be polite.’ With that, QT and the guard returned to the bank. They placed the golden letter P with the rest of the alphabet. Then they went outside.

10

Poof! Poof! Poof! There was Patty, there was Peter, both looking happy and still enjoying popsicles. People were wearing pants, the police were back on patrol and the park was back in place. ‘I’m going to check on my pig,’ grinned the guard. ‘Thank you dear QT Pi and come visit us real soon.’ QT Pi shook hands with the guard and ran home. When he saw his parents, he hugged and kissed them. He felt so happy, he couldn’t stop smiling. Everything was as it should be. Perfect!
