Mo’s Bagels offers a great place to meet and eat By David Volz

“A passion for the restaurant business and creating a place where people want to eat and hang out with their friends.” This

is what drives “Mo” Mohamed, the owner of Mo’s Bagels and Deli with locations in Aventura and Hallandale Beach. Mo opened his namesake res-

taurant in Aventura in 1995 and it quickly became known as a Jewish style deli with great food and a fun atmosphere. It is a large, roomy and comfortable

160 seat restaurant that is similar to the television restaurant “Cheers,” “where everybody knows your name.” Many of the wait staff are from various states

and countries. There is a huge variety of food and any kind of bagel you could want. The Mo’s Bagels, Page 6A

Insuring Valued Clients for the Next Generation The stories of Riemer Insurance Group and South Florida are inextricably linked. From the events that defined the region, to the companies that drive its business and enterprise, to the towers making Miami’s mark on a global skyline, the insurance agency has been the trusted partner at their sides. Founded by Stephen Riemer in 1978, the Hallandale-based agency grew along with the region’s insurance needs. From 1993 to 2000 Riemer purchased 12 insurance agencies, gaining strength by scaling the business. The company then switched gears and added to its growth strategy by hiring a different kind of salesman for a different kind of customer. Stephen Riemer brought on savvy sales professionals whose clients would follow them for their commercial insurance. In the early days, those were restaurants, hotels, country clubs, even a business that sold smoked fish to delicatessens. One by one, they became Riemer clients. Soon shopping center developers, office building owners, auto dealerships, retailers, and professional practices became the core group of Riemer’s client base. Today, the client base has expanded nationwide and, now Riemer Insurance Group is even the insurance agency for national insurance companies, hedge funds, banks, and other financial institutions. Then as now, clients were not joining a firm for commercial lines, personal lines, and employee benefits. They were getting a partner. “My father always said to serve your clients

When Brian returned to South Florida, he left behind a wholly different career. With his economics degree from Harvard University, and his MBA from Wharton, Brian had pursued investment banking with Peter J. Solomon Company and private equity with Audax Group. It was

his master’s focus on entrepreneurship and family business that convinced Brian he could lead the family business and help the closely held companies that they called clients. “My father built a practice that advises clients on how to best protect themselves, using a private equity discipline to evaluate business models, risk, growth potential, and even their management teams,” he said. “I knew my education and career prepared me for this moment.” What Brian leads today at Riemer Insurance’s two South Florida

offices in Hallandale Beach and South Miami are 50 employees supporting more than 12,000 businesses across the region and nation. Commercial clients range from mom-and-pop shops to the biggest names in the marketplace. Harnessing innate knowledge amassed over its 42-year life, its in-house expertise is unparalleled. Riemer knows every client faces complicated insurance requirements and has unique financial needs, especially as premiums continue to rise. He’s partnered with “captive insur-

ance companies,” where for financial, tax, and legal purposes, policies are held by the insured members, who serve as both policyholder and the insurance company. This can lower costs and broaden coverage, while driving profits through additional dividends. The firm’s commitment to continuous improvement requires that its people pursue individually unique industry education, with little overlap so it builds its bench of highly skilled, multidisciplinary experts. “A rising tide lifts all boats, so as our employees commit to attaining higher education, the Riemer Insurance Group grows its level of expertise each year” said Brian Riemer. Some things cannot be taught, however. It’s called loyalty - to its clients and coworkers his team calls family. It’s never lost that Riemer Insurance Group remains a family - owned and operated business that suffered no layoffs or payroll cuts during the pandemic. Riemer Insurance Group is known for bringing value added to the table by integrating its client relationships with each other to solve problems and overcome obstacles. “We bring our client base of professionals including accountants and attorneys to assist those who need help getting over the fence. Then and now, we see the important role an insurance partner plays in helping people and companies get through the roughest times of their lives,” Brian said. “It’s about relationships. My dad coined a phrase years ago that remains true today. ‘Our business is protecting yours.’”
