Maintaining service levels with the same or less revenue in addition to covering GPI and other liabilities is
not an easy task. Our entire city staff needs to be commended for their efforts. The good news is that the hard work, commitment and dedication have paid off. We did even better this budget. In fact, we added top notch lifeguard services that now provide service from county line to county line. We also added a state of art green park facility, The Foster Park Community Center. If you have not visited it yet, I encourage you to. There is a library with a computer area, meeting rooms, exercise room and many programs. Last year Hallandale Beach was fortunate to see a slight increase in property values for the first time in many years. I am cautiously optimistic that we again
will see an increase in 2013. Recently I attended a ULI Conference where it was reported values may increase in some areas by 12 %. I am hearing from Broward realtors that we may see 8%. Dr. Randy Anderson, a Howard Phillips Eminent Scholar Chair in Real Estate at UCF shared his real estate projection during his recent presentation at the Urban Land Institute Economic Conference. He also expressed this sentiment “Everyone said Florida would never recover. Florida is improving,” This is great news for our area since we still have major anchors like Gulfstream and Mardi Gras that have brought synergy to our city.
