PIER EXCITEMENT IN DANIA BEACH
Fueled by rising gasoline prices • Local consumers are opting for price and not the name on the station
Having everything you need for a day/night of fishing is part of what makes those who fish Dania Beach Pier special.
• Whether it’s fishing or just walking, this is a landmark that attracts thousands each week By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com DANIA BEACH - As Chris Wallace checks his four fishing poles that are fixed along the railing at the famed Dania Pier, he looks to the southeast - where storm clouds were building. It's the nature of fishing off one of Florida's 20 piers that give anglers like Wallace and others a real sense of being out 100 or more yards off shore - looking to catch the big one. While sailfish and other fighters often do not make their feeding grounds around the pier, you never know what fish story can happen, and Wallace, who happens to live less than a mile from Dania Beach, Dania Pier has long been a place ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– where youngsters grow up with PIER, Page 6A plenty of fond memories.

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Where do you buy your gas? That seems to be a very fair question with prices the way they are. The answer you receive may just surprise you. The days of the Sinclair, Esso and trusting your car to the man who wears the star at Texaco are over. Full service is the thing of the past, and now we are looking at price and not so much brand name. "We are so fed up with the price of gasoline, I never pay attention to where I am buying," said Ricky Lopez of Hallandale Beach, as he filled his car at U-Gas (999 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd.). "When I pull into a station and I see it below $3.60 a gallon, that is what I am buying." It's crazy how just five years ago, gas prices were at $2.30 and $2.40, and we as consumers were up in

Menchie's is satisfying Aventura's sweet tooth AVENTURA - Before Agnes Garcia sat down at the table with her grandson, Frank, the North Miami resident was telling a story about how she found Menchie's Frozen Yogurt Store. "I remember hearing about this place a few months ago," Garcia said in a soft voice. "I checked out the website and have been coming here ever since." What Garcia found, was that Menchie's is not only a quality product, but one that promotes healthy, tasty and fun eating. The Aventura location alone, is proof of what this company has attempted to do, in what is a very competitive dessert market. "I like a place where the adults can feel as comfortable as the kids do," Garcia explained. "When I come here with Frank or my daughter, we try different things, and choices are really fun."
