Election 2016: ‘There’s no place like home’ It’s what happens in Hallandale Beach, Dania Beach and many other local communities that will truly impact this region By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com No matter where you live in south Florida, the past two weeks may have either energized you or angered you enough to make a difference. As we all know, what happens in Washington does affect all of us, eventually. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent - or tons of other alternatives to this election - your decision will be based on everything you have read, watched or heard. The outcome of the presidential election will be interesting. But the reality of what happens to you and I, who live here in Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Dania Beach, Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami Beach or any municipality, will be directly felt by what transpires locally.
Sid Moran a 14-year resident of Hallandale Beach admits that while he has been paying attention to what Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have done to tear away the fibers of their respective parties, he has had a close ear to what is going on locally; in his city and county. “The very fact that watching what happens in Washington is great, but to you and I, it represents little in what we will be affected by,” he said. “This is about local elections – where taxes, potholes, street flooding, crime and other daily things make a difference in our everyday lives.” While its nice to know that gun control and other issues that we are all fighting nationally is being addressed, but our next mayor, commissioner or state senElection, Page 5A
Nothing hits home quite like a local election - where the results are felt almost immediately by the residents. The November election will certainly change the landscape of many local communities.

Hollywood Annual Water Line Flushing Program is set to Begin on August 22 HOLLYWOOD - The City of Hollywood Department of Public Utilities will begin its Annual Water Line Flushing Program on August 22, 2016. Flushing will continue across the City through September 16, 2016. The Annual Flushing Program is used by the Broward County Department of Health to help rid the water distribution pipelines of any accumulated sediments. The hydrant flushing may temporarily cause cloudy or discolored water,
which should settle and clear a few hours after flushing. The cloudiness is due to the sediments in the pipeline and is not harmful or hazardous. Flushing will take place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. During the water line flushing period, the Water Treatment Plant will temporarily change its method of disinfection from chloramines to free chlorination. Residents may notice a change in look and/or taste in the water during this time. IMPORTANT NOTE:
Owners and managers of businesses with fish and shellfish holding tanks and users of kidney dialysis machines are advised that regular methods for testing and removing chloramines will not be effective during the flushing period. It will be necessary to test and adjust for free chlorine. Should utility customers have any questions, please contact Carlos Aguilera, Acting Public Utilities Water Treatment Plant Manager at 954.967.4230.
An entire apartment building can become “sick” from water leaks which turn into mold causing respiratory problems, headaches and rashes in some people. But mold from leaks can also be served up a la carte, one apartment at a time. Although both new and old apartments are at risk, experts say water leak problems are increasingly cropping up in new-construction apartments. Sealed up more tightly, "they don't breathe as much, and if there is some kind of leak or water damage, mold can grow," says 1st Priority, a water damage and mold remediator, a South Florida based property damage restoration company. With 1st Priority’s state-of-the-art infrared scanning equipment, they can help find your leak spots. It’s always easier and less expensive to find the problem sooner than later. 1st Priority gave us the big scoop on the top three problem as well as the important and money saving scenarios in new and the old apartments/condos:

You'll probably notice water damage and staining before you notice any signs of mold, because mold tends to grow faster inside than on the surface.
