Happy 105th Birthday, Eleanor Hannan

This year, we celebrate the incredible life of Eleanor Hannan, who turns 105, marking more than a century of adventure, talent, and community spirit.

Eleanor’s life has been nothing short of extraordinary, and her story is one of passion, dedication, and a love fortheartsandrealestate.

Before becoming a beloved figure in the South Florida community, Eleanor had a dazzling career as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall in New York. As one of the iconic dancers in the worldfamous troupe, she performed in front of packed audiences and etched her name in the annals of entertainment history. But everything changed when she met Robert “Bob” Hannan, known as “The Flying Realtor,” who flew his own plane and had a zest for life that matched Eleanor’s. They married, and together, they had three children: Sydney, Michael, and Laurie, who would later bless them with three grandchildren.

The couple didn’t just share a family but a professional life as well. Eleanor and Bob worked together in the real estate business, running their own office on Tyler Street in downtown Hollywood, Florida. In addition to managing the office, Eleanor was a familiar face in commercials, photo ops, and films. She appeared in various movies, including the iconic Porky’s,

and worked with brands like Westmore Village.

Eleanor’s love for the arts didn’t stop at the stage; she had a voice in the local theater scene as well. For years, she wrote an entertainment column for the Hallandale Digest, where she reviewed performances at theaters like TOPA, The North Miami Playhouse, and The Parker. Her signature sign-off, “See You At the Theater,” became a cherished phrase for her readers. When the Digest ceased publication, Eleanor adapted, launching her own website, Spotlight on the Stage, which continued to feature her reviews. This beloved column still exists today, thanks to the ongoingsupportofherfamily.

Beyond her professional achievements, Eleanor has been a proud resident of Alexander Towers since 1992, where she also served as a board member. Her influence extends well beyond her personal accomplishments. She has been a cornerstone of the community, earning respect and admiration from everyone who has had the pleasureofworkingwithher.

Eleanor Hannan’s life is a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and commitment. As we celebrate her 105th birthday, we echo her beloved phrase:“SeeYouAttheTheater!” Here’s to many more years of happiness and inspiration, Eleanor!

You Snore? Are You Always Tired?

Snoring Is No Laughing Matter!

It may be more than just an annoying habit, it may be a sign of Sleep Apnea

What Exactly is Sleep Apnea?

When the muscles that control the upper airway relax, some people begin to snore. When the airway becomes completely blocked and the person temporarily stops breathing, this is an episode of “Obstructive Apnea.” Each Apnea event may last for a few seconds or up to a couple minutes or more. Events may happen frequently - even several hundred times a night.

Can This Condition Be Treated? How?

There are many effective treatments for snoring. A widely accepted treatment for Sleep Apnea is oral appliance therapy. An oral device custom fit by your dentist is designed to keep your airway open and help prevent Apneas.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine

Recommends an oral appliance as a first-line treatment option for patients with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and for those with severe OSA who either decline CPAP Therapy or are unable to successfully use CPAP Therapy. This treatment does not involve medications or surgery and helps hundreds of thousands of people all over the world enjoy sleeping safely for a healthier life. Many experience the benefits quickly - often during the first night of use.

Something For Everyone This April An Exciting And Diverse Lineup Of Performances In Aventura

This show will bring together young performers and musicians from across the country and beyond to share a well-known fable, retold by the teenagers of today. Mo’s Bagels and Deli Celebrates 30 Year Anniversary

Hussin Mohamed gave up his prized possessions to start his own restaurant business. Instead of taking out a bank loan, Mohamed decided to sell his personal valuables to launch Mo’s Bagels and Deli, a Restaurant with Jewish Style Cuisine in Aventura at 2780 Northeast 187thAvenuein1995anditpaidoff.

This month Mo’s Bagels and Deli Celebrated their 30 Year Anniversary with a weekend of tremendous Surprises to Celebrate 30 Beautiful Years Of Family Gathering. There was fun and food, mimosas, clowns, cotton candy, gift card giveawaysandmanyothersurprises!

“I’m So Proud Of Myself And What I Have Done To This Restaurant, We’re Getting Better, Stronger And More SuccessfulThanEverBefore!”Mosaid.

In 2020, Mohamed expanded to Hallandale Beach at the Broward location on800EastHallandaleBeachBoulevard.

It was a lifelong dream for Mohamed who was born and raised in Egypt, he moved to the United States in 1984 when hewas21yearsold.

“With all the money I had saved up and sold everything, I was able to open up Mo’s Bagels and Deli in Aventura 30 years ago,” Mohamed said. “It was a risk that I took, and if I didn’t make it, I just didn’t make it. I invested my money in the right

business.”

Mohamed said the first few years of the business was kind of rough since he wasonhisown.

“You don’t build a restaurant in one night,” he said. “There were some tough times, butwegotthroughthem.”

Mohamed worked in New York Style Bagel and Deli Shops before landing a position at Bagel Cove which is across the streetfromhisAventurarestaurant.

Mohamed said he was made a Junior Partner but wanted more: owning his own restaurant and making the vast majority of the decisions on how to run the business.

Hisdreambecamewell-founded.

After acquiring the money to start Mo’s Bagel and Deli, Mohamed said he renovated the location so the place could have a seating capacity of 160. The Hallandale restaurant has a 120-seating capacity.

Mohamed said “Mo’s Bagel and Deli’s menu is the hottest around town and his customerskeepcomingbackformore.”

He serves up a variety of Plain, Sesame Seed, Onion, Raisin, Cinnamon, Poppy andPumpernickelBagels.

They are delicious and customers love to sink their teeth into Mo’s Philly Cheesesteak, White Fish and Tuna,

Corned Beef, Turkey and Smoked Fish Sandwiches on Bread or Wraps. Also on the menu are Seafood Salad, Brisket and Beef.

Mohamed said the Tuna Salad is the mostpopulardish.

Why?

“Everything we have is great quality,” he said. “It’s not all about the bagels, people like theTuna Salad. People come from Boca Raton to eat our Tuna Salad because they find it better than any other restaurant.”

Mohamed said the secret to his success is that the customers come back for moreandbuyqualityproducts.

“Unlike other restaurants, I never look for the cheap stuff to save money,” he said. “I don’t cheat the customers out of qualityproducts.Ibuyandsellthebest.”

The customers and the ambiance are veryimportanttoMohamed.

Mohamed said he goes out of his way to make his customers happy and if they are feeling down, the food will bring them back up. He loves to listen to his customerswhentheytalk.

“I love my customers and I get to know them,” he said. “Without the customers, there would be no Mo’s Bagels and Deli. Without the customers, there wouldn’t be Mohamed.”

Former Aventura Mayor EnidWeisman and Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper are regular customers of Mo’s Bagels and Deli.

Mohamed said he worked at his father’s supermarket in Egypt when he was a kid, he said that he learned everything he needed to know to someday runabusiness.

When he arrived in the U.S. in 1984, he began his quest but needed more experience to operate his own business by workinginBagelShopsandDelis.

There, he learned that customer satisfaction is a top priority in running a successfulbusiness.

Mohamed said the quality while preparingthefoodsisalsoimportant.

“When your customers come back, you are doing something right,” he said. “Your restaurant’s success is based on howsatisfiedyourcustomersare.”

When it was time for Mohamed to venture out on his own, his goal was to make Mo’s Bagels and Deli the best Jewish-Style

March Is Women’s History Month: Honoring The Hospitality Industry’s Revolutionary Women

March is Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the trailblazers who have shaped industries, shattered ceilings, and redefined success. Nowhere is their impact more evident than in the hospitality industry, where women have long been at the forefront—revolutionizing culinary arts, hospitality management, and guest experiences. From the legendary Alice Waters, who pioneered the farm-to-table movement, to industry powerhouses like Arne Sorenson, who championed diversity in leadership, women have transformed the way we dine, travel, and experience hospitality. Yet, their contributions often go unrecognized. This month, we celebrate the chefs, hoteliers, entrepreneurs, and innovators whose passion and perseverance continue to redefine the industry. Whether it’s Dominique Crenn earning her place as the first female chef in the U.S. with three Michelin stars, or visionary hotel executives paving the way for a more inclusive future, their stories inspire the next generation of hospitality leaders. Join us as we honor four extraordinary Miami women, spotlight their achievements, and recognize their undeniable influenceontheindustry.

Eileen Andrade, Amelia’s 1931, Miami:

Eileen Andrade, a renowned Miami chef, traces her culinary roots to Islas Canarias, her family’s iconic Cuban restaurant. From a young age, she immersed herself in the kitchen, cultivating a passion for gastronomy. Venturing out with her brother, she launched the Cuban Cube food truck which gained rapid popularity. A transformative trip to South Korea in 2013 exposed Andrade to new flavors, reshaping her approach to cook-

ing. This journey laid the foundation for her restaurant, Finka Table & Tap, which opened in 2014, blending Korean and Cuban influences. The restaurant quickly became a hit, marking the beginning of Andrade’s ascent in Miami’s culinary scene. In 2017, Andrade introduced Amelia’s 1931, a cozy diner paying homage to her grandmother. Media acclaim prompted further expansion, leading to Barbakoa by Finka in Doral, blending Cuban, Korean and Peruvian cuisines. In 2023, Andrade transformed Amelia’s 1931, expanding its footprint and reinventing its concept. The redesigned space, with a speakeasy vibe and chic aesthetic, features a new menu and signature cocktails. The restaurant’s success reinforces Andrade’s status as a rising star in Miami’sculinarylandscape.

Andrea Moreno, Food Network

South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by Capital One:

A Miami native, Andrea Moreno, PR and Marketing Director of South Beach Wine and Food Festival is a graduate of FIU School of Hospitality and Management and a driving force behind that Festival’s well-earned reputation as one of the most popular, largest and most successful food & wine fundraisers in the country. Her role as a Director at the Festival seemed preordained as she started her career as a Public Relations intern at Brustman Carrino Public Relations, which oversees the public relations for the Festival. The diehard Panther (FIU alumnus) and talented publicist quickly rose up the ranks not just becoming an Account Executive at the agency, overseeing all manner of food & beveragecentric accounts but taking lead on the

Festival account. Her blend of genuine enthusiasm, strategic smarts, positive attitude and drive for success made her both a valuable member of the BCPR team but the ideal candidate to head such a challenging and multi-layered campaign. In 2020, as the Festival – and the world at large – prepared for its postCOVID-19 incarnation Andrea was able to transition seamlessly in house at the Festival and make it her complete professional focus. During her time the Festival has not just survived but thrived, enjoying record-breaking attendance, ticket sales and most importantly, raised millions of dollars for its beneficiary, the FIU SchoolofHospitalityManagement.

Luciana Giangrandi, Boia De and Walrus Rodeo, Miami: Luciana, Co-Chef and Owner of Miami Michelin Award One Star restaurant Boia De and Chef/Partner inWalrus Rodeo, is a Miami native who earned her culinary stripes elsewhere before returning to the Magic City to open a restaurant in her hometown. Bringing her career full circle, Luciana returned to Miami with now husband Alex Meyer and together they opened La Pollita; a beloved Mexican food truck formerly stationed in Miami Midtown Garden Center before its final outpost in the Design District. In June 2019, the two closed up the taco shop and opened Boia De, a 24-seat restaurant and bar in a strip mall in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. From day one, Alex Meyer and Luciana Giangrandi set out to create a welcoming and inclusive environment; more than 50 percent of the restaurant staff identifies as female, 35% BIPOC, and top-level management is 70% female. Creating a safe, positive space has

attracted talented minorities, members of the LGBTQ+ Community and allies of these communities. Luci works hard to create a positive environment based on respect where staff is encouraged to excel, share ideas and subsequently develop a sense of ownership in the restaurants. At the root of it all is passion; that is what is responsible for turning a 900-square-foot space with no storage, or room for a “real” kitchen into a Michelin-starred, nationally renowned restaurant. But it’s the passion for the team and their well-being that inspires everyone on staff to excel that translates into an incredible restaurant experience. Boia De has held its Michelin Star for two years now and has been a semi-finalistforaJamesBeardAward.

Gina Genna, InterContinental Miami:

A consummate hospitality professional with dedication to service and attention to detail as her north stars, Gina Genna is the marketing and communications powerhouse at the iconic InterContinental Miami Hotel. With the property for close to five years, her overarching goal as its Director of Marketing is to both further cement its well-earned reputation as a conference and business property but also as a premier destination for lifestyle travel. In short, helping redefine the hotel’s image as both a commercial, luxury and urban lifestyle resort. Her day to day revolves around building and executing the branding, communications and marketing for the hotel while overseeing Social Media, public relations, web, digital and reputation management channels. As she prepares for a new season and new opportunities at the hotel, she looks ahead to her 22nd Anniversary in the marketingandcommunicationsfield.
