Why Do We Hate?

From The Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting – To Workplace Violence – Things Are Not Good

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com A man walks into a synagogue in Pittsburgh and kills innocent worshipers. A bomb is left on a bus and kills Muslim women and children. The legend of hate plays no favorites. It’s not only the Jews and Mus-

lims, but every religious, racial and country of origin group on the planet. On this Thanksgiving week, when peace is preached and unity is indeed something that we strive for, we are cleaning up from a bombing, mass shooting and attacks in the name of hatred.

In 2018, we cannot go to the movies, local restaurant or grocery store without thinking first of what can happen. “We are living in a society where hate is an easy solution,” Hollywood resident Adam Korn pointed out. “For me, as someone who grew up in

a Jewish home, I never buried my head in the sand when it came to Anti-Semitism. But over the years, you see the people who ‘hate’ Jews, and you can easily trace to where it came from.” Hate is indeed inherited. Someone doesn’t wake up one morning and

just hate a religious group or nationality. Hate is drummed into our brains from an early age, and whether many of us want to admit it or not, the seed had been long planted in our heads. The very fact that hate has been preached in many forms, the origin of

this dislike can be traced to families who continue to carry on something that started generations ago – for reasons that nobody can truthfully explain. “In the society that we live in, everyone is a target,” Mikealea Kennedy of Sunny Isles Beach said. “Having been in this country for 11 years, I see hate for the Russian community, the Jewish community, the Muslim community as well as Cubans, African-Americans and anyone who is not from here. It is like that in other countries, but not as bad as it has gotten here.” Kennedy’s point is well taken. This country does breed hate, and while people will point at white supremacist groups, hate comes in many forms. The market has not been cornered by one group or another. Camille Owens is a reprofessor from tired Chicago and has done a number of studies on the issues that have risen from hatred toward one another. “I found that many white supremacist groups continue to send out these messages, but if you ask them why they hate Jews and others, their answers are really all over the place,” she exp-
