Hippocrates Health Institute’s 12th Annual RAW FEST welcomes Hemp & Heal in to their family

The 12th Annual RAW FEST on March 24 at the world-famous and well respected Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach put the spotlight on Hemp & Heal - as hundreds of vendors attracted plenty of people.

The success that Hemp & Heal has enjoyed over the past year has been amazing. But recently, Jonah Bolt and his progressive company moved to the next level.

Bolt, the owner and president of the company, who found out firsthand what hemp can do for all of us - especially his own family - attended The 12th Annual RAW FEST on March 24 at the worldfamous and well respected Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach.

This year’s theme was Rawnaissance, as men wore their best renaissance themed attire. The event celebrated health and wellness with kids activities, wellness lectures, live music, door prizes, raw vegan food and more!

It certainly put Bolt and his company in the spotlight. Through Hemp & Heal, a superior product line has been developed - and at events such as the one held in West Palm Beach - plenty of questions and answers surrounded the products.

Harvest Reapers Outreach Support Ministry Providing New Local Assistance Program for Single Parent Households

Harvest Reapers Outreach Support Ministry Is Set To Launch This New assistance program on Saturday, May 12 at Piccadilly Cafeteria in Hollywood Hollywood - The numbers are staggering and the reality of being a single parent in a world filled with many obstacles along the way can be daunting - to even the toughest and most determined.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, while the majority of America’s 73.7 million children, under age 18, live in families with two parents, the second most common family arrangement is children living with a single parent, more than 80% of which were headed by single mothers.

Those numbers are indeed alarming - where single parent households, headed by mothers, a major portion were jobless the entire year and many were food

insecure.

Enter Harvest Reapers Ministry - where Senior Pastor Dorothy Roberts and her husband Scott Roberts have been digging down deep for finances, helping thousands with everything possible and plenty of prayer for nearly three decades.

A statistic that is now reality here in 2018 - is that once largely limited to poor women and minorities, motherhood without marriage has settled deeply into middle America. The fastest growth in the last two decades has occurred among women in their 20s who have some college education but no four-year degree.

Throughout history, marriage and parenthood have been linked milestones on the journey to adulthood. But for the young adults of the Millennial Generation, these social institutions are becoming delinked and differently valued. Today’s

18- to 29-year-olds value parenthood far more than marriage.

ABOUT HARVEST REAPERS OUTREACH Feeding the hungry, the impoverished, the unemployed and the ill is what Harvest Reapers Outreach has always been about. Their feeding programs help strengthen the faith of their volunteers as well as those who receive the meals they provide.

Fitness Boot Camp at Founders Park The City Offers Complimentary Fitness Boot Camp at Founders Park April 14 & April 28, classes start at 9:30am. The City of Aventura is offering a trial set of complimentary fitness, boot camp style classes at Founders Park. Participants can expect a fun and interactive workout including multi-functional movements and exercises that aid to improve cardiovascular and pulmonary endurance, as well as overall conditioning. The park’s trail and existing exercise stations will be utilized during class sessions.

Give Your Brain Waves A Workout Successful CEOs and entrepreneurs, as well as ambitious middle managers, often seek ways to keep their mental faculties sharp to stay ahead of their competition.

But training your brain to perform at peak levels isn’t easy.

And that’s why some executives are turning to neurofeedback sessions – a kind of biofeedback for the brain – to improve their mind’s executive function and performance.

“Improved health and mental focus can help you balance the stressors of daily living while keeping you headed toward your goals,” says Dr. Ed Carlton, founder of the Carlton Neurofeedback Center (www.carltonneurofeedbackcent er.com) and author of the book The Answer.

“For example, for people who are seeking a promotion or a career shift, or planning to start their own business, neurofeedback training can help improve their executive function and their performance.”

Inspirational speaker Tony Robbins is a fan of neurofeedback training. So is Olympic beach volleyball champion Kerri Walsh-Jennings.

Carlton refers to neurofeedback as “fitness training for the brain,” which is perhaps why it’s appealing even to Olympic athletes.

Here’s how it works: The process begins with a brain map, which locates the specific areas that need help to function more efficiently. Once these areas are identified, neurofeedback training can improve their function.

The technology uses computers to monitor brain-wave patterns while the patient relaxes and watches a movie or video. The visual and audio inputs are varied, providing feedback based on the training goals from the brain map. The results are lasting and there are no side effects, Carlton says.

While neurofeedback can be used to improve executive function, it’s also used to treat ADD and ADHD, depression, autism,

seizures, traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic-stress disorder.

Carlton says there are a few important facts business executives should know if they’re interested in the benefits of neurofeedback training: Why the brain’s executive function is important. Executive function refers to the complex neurological processes in the brain’s frontal lobe that help you plan, manage time and get organized. “This is where we learn to keep details in our head, come up with different ways to solve problems, and start and complete tasks,” Carlton says.

This requires a complex set of skills such as being able to pay attention, self-monitor and regulate emotions.

How neurofeedback training helps. Neurofeedback can help you regain your focus and reduce mental clutter that can impact memory and organization. “After patients start the training regimen, many of them tell us the first thing they notice

right away is that their quality of sleep improves,” Carlton says.

“As training continues, performance improvements follow.”

Professional development as self-care. Neurofeedback training doesn’t alter your personality or change who you are, Carlton says. “It’s simply a training gym of sorts to help your brain make new connections that keep it in balance, which helps better regulate emotional states, improves attention and focus, and enhances working memory,” he says. “For anyone in business,

Ali Corwin and her husband have a busy schedule - working throughout the week. But they also have three children, and planning for the summer is never an easy thing to do.

While the calendar says April - the months of June, July and August - are really not far away at all, and if you happen to be a parent, they are closer than you think.

“We both work and stay busy, but the fact remains is we are a family - and having three children - ranging in age from 914 - keeps us thinking,” Corwin said.

“They have a need to stay busy during the summer. We do not want them sitting home and hanging with their friends. That is not even an option.”

Because many families are looking to save a few dollars during the summer, sending their kids to a camp is perhaps the best value possible.

The City of Aventura, which always finds events to keep all of its residents busy, has opened up Summer Camp Registration, and residents are making it a priority to take full advantage.

Matty Rojas is going to waste no time in getting her children registered for the summer camp. She did it last year - and the children loved it and have been talking about the experience all year.

“Even though I was a stay at home mom the past 11 years, I have always sent the children somewhere,” Rojas said. “It just seemed like they had so much fun last year - so we decided to come back - and it is minutes from our home.”

Campers ages 5-14 have the opportunity to spend the summer participating in a variety of fun onsite activities, field trips, playing outdoor/indoor games, and making new friends.

It is indeed something that is needed for the growth and the many memories that come out of summer experiences.

Sunny Isles Beach resident Michael Light is one of those who has fond memories of his summers, growing up in New York. He wanted his children to have that same experience - by attending local camps or events.

“When we were younger, we combined our local summer camp with things that we did in our community,” Light recalled.

“From swimming at the local pool - to playing ball and going to movies - those were the memories that we had.”

As youngsters of today still create memories on their own - to talk about for generations to come - summer camp has once again become the thing to do.

The City of Aventura Community Services Department will be operating camps at the Community Recreation Center located at 3375 NE 188 Street, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The following camp programs are offered: Summer Camp (Ages 5-14): Campers enjoy arts & crafts, games, sports, special events, field trips, and swimming (for select ages).

HEALTH New Study: Changed Lifestyles Are Hampering Our Weight-Loss Efforts (BPT) - If you’ve ever tried to lose weight, you probably know it can seem like an overwhelming task. In fact, a recent survey conducted by The Harris Poll indicates losing weight is harder than ever before, and that today’s busy modern lifestyle is a key reason why.

But, don’t lose hope. Results also suggest that taking a new approach to weight loss can help, and that you can increase your chances for reaching and maintaining your weight-loss goals by getting a clear picture of the factors holding you back, and establishing a plan compatible with your lifestyle.

“The Truth About Weight Loss” survey was conducted online by The Harris Poll in October/November 2017 on behalf of Zaluvida, the makers of I-REMOVE (R), and included nearly 1,000 health care professionals [458 primary care physicians (PCPs) and 503 pharmacists], and more than 1,000 U.S. adults ages 18 and over.

So, what are our roadblocks?

The survey paints a picture of U.S. adults who are discouraged when it comes to weight loss, and some of the key reasons why.

Among its findings: • 77 percent of PCPs and 81 percent of pharmacists say losing weight is harder today than it was for previous generations because of the busy, modern lifestyle of Americans.

• Too much screen time (i.e., time spent on computers, tablets and mobile phones) has resulted in Americans leading less-active lifestyles, according to 95 percent of PCPs and 97 percent of pharmacists.

• Lack of time is taking a toll as well. 97 percent to 98 percent of PCPs and pharmacists are concerned that Americans are not taking time to plan healthy meals which will negatively impact their weight and their family’s weight.

The result of all this? Widespread frustration. While 41 percent of Americans are now attempting to lose weight, only 29 percent of them are confident they’ll achieve their current weight-loss goals.

Fifty-nine percent of them say they’re frustrated by previous attempts to lose weight - typically, they’ve tried to slim down a substantial five times in the past five years.

What’s needed? A sustainable plan, and more weight-loss options.

At least 89 percent of health care professionals surveyed say Americans need to take a new approach to weight loss that fits with today’s modern lifestyle.

Instead of embarking blindly on a goal to lose weight, they say people should develop a plan that accounts for their potential stumbling blocks - most advise that your plan should be sustainable (79 percent of PCPs and 69 percent of pharmacists), not be time-consuming (56 percent of PCPs and 55 percent of pharmacists), and not require sudden or major shifts to your daily routine (54 percent of PCPs and 53 percent of pharmacists).

You may also want to consider new options; at least 84 percent of PCPs and pharmacists say they wish they had more weight-loss options for people who are overweight but not yet obese, and 63 percent of PCPs and 60 percent of pharmacists agree that a weight-loss product/aid that fits into one’s lifestyle without unpleasant side effects would make it easier for their patients to lose weight.

REAL ESTATE 3 Ways The Facebook Data Breach Provides Lessons For Other Businesses The tale of how Facebook exposed the data of 50 million users to a Cambridge Analytica researcher may shine a light on how business ethics and regulatory compliance issues are struggling to keep up with fastmoving technological advances. It also shows that the more things change the more they stay the same when it comes to organizations that focus on commercial success without equal attention to governance and corporate responsibility, says Beth Haddock (www.bethhad dock.com), author of Triple Bottom-Line Compliance: How to Deliver Protection, Productivity and Impact.

“We often see gaps in business judgment when companies are managing a crisis of trust by its customers

and the public at large,” says Haddock, who is also CEO of Warburton Advisers, a consulting firm that advises companies on compliance and ethical issues particularly when there’s a crisis. The data breach happened a few years ago when 270,000 Facebook users took a personality quiz through an app that, without their knowledge, allowed the quiz maker to take their private information. The app maker was then able to access the data of those people’s Facebook friends, and provided the information to Cambridge Analytica, a data-analysis firm. Now regulators in both the United Kingdom and the U.S. are asking for information about what Facebook knew and how it reacted after discovering the breach.

The case does indeed raise questions and lessons for other businesses, Haddock says. Such as: Self-interest over obligation to consumers.

Companies should not ignore their responsibilities to customers, Haddock says, but there’s an indication in this case that greater emphasis was placed on self-interest. For example, Facebook used a newspaper advertisement to try to mitigate the company’s legal liabilities, but didn’t address corporate responsibility. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted a timeline of events, but didn’t mention a 2011 settlement with the Federal Trade Commission that involved deceiving users about privacy protections.

Finally,

Facebook’s Code of Conduct says employees must represent the “best interests of the company,” but makes no mention of corporate responsibility to customers. “That’s an interesting foundation for a culture of 10,000 employees with access to powerful personal information,” Haddock says. “Imagine a Wall Street firm or a doctor whose code of conduct is solely self-interested, and what’s best for the investor or the patient isn’t considered.” Haddock says this arguably is an example of “fudge-factor thinking,” where people find ways to

justify in their own minds questionable ethical decisions, and it’s something businesses need to be wary of. Compliance and governance. Haddock says it will be interesting to watch how Facebook’s compliance and governance program withstands scrutiny, especially against public statements that shareholders relied upon to invest in this public company. “This is a good reminder to other companies,” she says. “Assess whether your governance is built on a foundation of fudge-factor thinking. If it is, make changes before

there is a foreseeable surprise that results from poor business judgment.”

The data breach itself.

This may serve as a cautionary tale for other American companies because regulatory agencies both at home and abroad could come down on them hard if they aren’t vigilant about protecting user data. Innovation is prized in the U.S. But when it comes to breaches of trust and information, Haddock says, caveat emptor may be a faulty premise for U.S. technology companies going forward.
