DESTINATION DANIA BEACH

There’s Nothing Sleepy About This Growing & Thriving City By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Dania Beach - For years, the mention of Dania Beach conjured up thoughts of a small town, a fishing pier and an antique district that was moments away from the airport. Known in the early years for the vast tomato fields and open spaces in this community that hugs the Atlantic Ocean, things have started to progress. Even with its small town values, Dania Beach has given into progress. While it remains quaint and still gives hope to many “mom and pop” businesses, there is a new identity to Mayor Tamara James and her growing community. This is one of the true communities that has found a perfect balance between corporate and the familyowned corner store. In the past two years, it has

been down with the old and up with the new - as hotels, restaurants and residential and office buildings are shifting the landscape of this community. Some embraced the

change - while others are not so sure. “I have lived here for 23 years,” April Murray said. “We grew up playing in Frost Park, attending Olson Middle School and

South Broward High School - and would ride our bikes to the beach. Great way to grow up. In this day of developers handing out all kinds of cash to cities that need it,

you have to give in, but I have to think that we have done it in a way where it doesn’t compromise what Dania Beach is.” Murray knows that what’s happening on the

east side - where new restaurants and businesses are starting to pop up weekly - playing on being a destination com-

CHANGING THE FACE OF THE COMMUNITY Well Known Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar’s Large Following Is Bringing Several New Diners To Hallandale Beach

Chef Carlos Brescia (aka Dr. Limon) is truly the inspiration behind one of the newest culinary hotspots in south Florida. His passion for cooking and creating amazing dishes can be traced back to his native Peru.

If you drive along Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach, there are some impressive changes being made. Much needed changes! Businesses and residences are transforming the “New Hallandale Beach” into something special - making it a trendy destination. It had long been the plan to give this area, moments from the ocean, a true progressive identity. It is starting to unfold. At the center of this progressive growth is Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar. Established in 2012 in the southern Miami City of Kendall, this Peruvian hotspot was developed and founded by Chef Car-

los Brescia (aka Dr. Limon) and partners Jose Antonio Combina and Fiorella Terrazas. Dr. Limon was creatively designed from scratch to go with the theme of a Medical institution, which is present in so many of the extensive menu items, highlighting an array of Ceviches that is unmatched. What Chef Carlos, a Chiclayo, Peru native, has meant this rapidly growing eatery - is creativity and the willingness to think out of the box. He started cooking in his family’s restaurant, developing knife and cooking skills at international restaurants. Located in the New

City Center (801 N Federal Hwy # 107, Hallandale Beach, FL 33008), Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar is known for the creative theme. From the plates to the server’s jackets, everything was designed and created to go with what this success story is all about. “To fully comprehend what our restaurants are about is to understand Chef Carlos,” Hallandale Beach General Manager Saul Geller pointed out. “He creates the menus by actually going to different remote areas in Peru and trying unque & special dishes few have experienced. He brings them
