There’s Trouble In Paradise Mayor Joy Cooper Is Arrested, Suspended and Charged With Three Felonies By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com For a City that has had more than its share of negative publicity in the past six years, many felt that things couldn’t get any worse. Wrong! Last week, Joy Cooper, who has dedicated the past two plus decades to making Hallandale Beach a better place to work and live as a commissioner and for the past decade, Mayor – was charged with money laundering, official misconduct and exceeding limits on campaign contributions, all of which

are third-degree felonies. She is also charged with a first-degree misdemeanor of soliciting contributions in a government building. According to the state attorney's office, FBI agents posing as wealthy land developers met with Cooper, former attorney Alan Koslow and other undercover agents posing as business owners over the course of several months to discuss a business project in the City. When the news came down, everyone who had known Mayor Cooper for so many years, were

stunned. Certainly this could never happen to someone who found her life under a microscope by a commission that had certainly changed from the days where everyone was on the same page. Those who have supported Mayor Cooper over the years have found a leader who was innovative and would support everything in the community. April Lowe’s mother met Cooper on several occasions at the Hepburn Center. She was blown away Cooper, Page 4A

being called a flu, it is more than that. Much more! The virus, which is known as adenovirus, can cause very severe flu-like symptoms. The U.S. military vaccinates recruits against two major strains. “The scary part of this virus, is unless you look for it or you suspect it's circulating around, there is no way to detect it,” Caprio explained. “The doctors said that espec-
