Hollywood Beach Has Remained A Quaint Getaway – Despite Corporate Growth By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Hollywood Beach – There are many areas of South Florida that have given in to the big money that developers bring along with them. Miami Beach has become the ultimate concrete jungle – as residences and businesses continue to spring up each year to facilitate the many residents that are now calling South Florida home. There are also dozens of other communities that have lost that small town charm that made so many destinations
popular. One of the cities that has long been home to the old school mom and pop businesses and the charm of the smaller hotels and apartments is Hollywood Beach. While some of that charm has been lost – with the addition of larger hotels and chain eateries – this has certainly been an area where the past meets the present with positive results. Hollywood - In celebration of Black History Month, the City of Hollywood African American Advisory Council, in coordination with Barry University Center for Community Service Initiatives and Liberia Economic and Social Development Inc., will be hosting a
two-night Black History Month event this month. Events include a Presentation & Panel with honored veterans discussing “African Americans in Wartime” and the 2nd Annual “Talented 10th Poetry Slam” Spoken Word Competition. “African Americans in Wartime Presentation & Panel Discussion” will be held on Thursday, February 8 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hollywood City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard, Room 219.
