The Heartbeat of the Community For 90 Years, Hallandale Beach Police Has Played A Huge Role In The Growth of the City

Last Thursday at Dunkin Donuts on East Hallandale Beach Blvd., “Coffee with the Guardians” took place - as Police Chief Sonia Quinones, far right, and her staff came out to talk with residents and business leaders.

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Since 1927, when Hallandale Beach officially became a city, it was the police department that stood tall - and out front for all to see and respect. In those 90 years, this has become a department that defines “community policing” - at a time when many are quick to make changes without any knowledge, gauging decisions on finance and not on the reality of trust and a proven track record. It has been Hallandale’s Police Department that has been as responsible for the positive growth, as anyone - with

lasting relationships that have been formed by progressive leadership. “As a kid, I always remembered the Hallandale Police - black and while cars - patrolling our neighborhood,” Emma Sims said. “We knew the

officers by name - like Frank and Tomas who brought us candy and stopped to talk and interact. That was huge.” Because there is so much friction these days

Hollywood Celebrates Earth Day and Arbor Day Hollywood - The City of Hollywood commemorated Earth Day and Arbor Day this past weekend with fun-filled family events that brought hundreds to celebrate the planet in Hollywood. Funtastic Friday went Green at the ArtsPark at Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood on Friday night. Kids enjoyed the usual Funtastic Friday festivities like bounce houses and face painting, then joined their families to check out environmentally-friendly exhibits, tree and plant giveaways, games, music and much more!

The 8th Annual Funtastic Friday Goes Green event was hosted by the City of Hollywood’s Green Team advisory board, in partnership with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts, along with other community partners. After taking part in all the green festivities, families spread out their blankets on the lawn in front of the ArtsPark Amphitheater and settled in to watch the movie “Earth: One Amazing Day.”
