No Incentives To Be A Teacher

A Once Looked Up To Profession Is Losing Some Promising Educators By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com April Tellis graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2011 with a teaching degree. She has not used it yet. Going on her seventh year as a pharmaceutical rep, she saw the handwriting on the wall - and frankly did not want to face low pay, no respect and little in the way of incentives. “I love to teach, am the daughter of two longtime educators, but the money was terrible and you look at people who have been in it all of their lives and they are not happy,” she explained. “At first, I felt guilty because I went to school with the idea of teaching, but as I learned

along the way, decision makers do not share the same passion as teachers do. The profession lacks the respect it deserves.” Tellis is not alone, there are others who believe that many take the profession for granted. Teachers are those who inspire. Often times, they themselves were inspired by someone else. They teach because they love the subject or content they chose and they love working with students. Teachers are those who like helping people and if they are good at their job, they will do whatever it takes to see their students succeed. For a good teacher, Teaching, Page 7A

Hemp & Heal Launches ‘Emergency Opiate Crisis’ Helping Veterans Get Help - And Putting Them Back On Their Feet With A Job Constructing Solar Panels Nobody has to tell you that opioid overdoses have become a public health crisis in this country. To put in perspective on how bad things are: three times as many people in the U.S. die each year from opioid overdoses than from gun-related homicides (according to the CDC, 33,000 opioid-related deaths vs. 11,000 gun-related homicides). In the last 12 years, deaths from opioid overdoses have skyrocketed over 400%. In 2017 alone, nearly 19,000 Americans died from opioids. Even President Trump has officially declared it a health emergency. “It has become so important to find a way to combat opioid addiction that we have something that really works and is proven,” said Jonah Bolt, Founder of Hemp & Heal. “Through hemp oil, we can, and

have, successfully gotten so many off a drug that claims so many millions of lives.” Because of Hemp & Heal’s commitment to fighting this strangling epidemic, the company has launched the ‘Emergency Opiate Crisis’ - which will help fight and eliminate the addiction through hemp oils and other products that have been proven to work. Perhaps one of the groups that has been affected by this are the Native Americans. A population where there are a depressed or a low socioeconomic factors, and are more vulnerable to opiate overdose. Many Native American populations suffer from Opiate, Page 2B
