No Reminder Needed This Year As Hurricane Season Begins, The Drill Is A Simple One: Be Prepared! By Larry Blustein Sfsuntimes@aol.com As we really needed to be reminded this past weekend that it is indeed hurricane season on Friday, Alberto came along. Call it subtropical, tropical or anything else you would like, but at the end of the day, it can only signal that it’s time to be prepared. With this past Memorial Day weekend serving as a reminder to start making those final preparations for the next six long months, we saw street flooding and heavy rains. “Sort of something we needed to wake some of these people up down

here,” Alice Kornman of Hollywood said, waiting for her ride at Publix Supermarket. “The rain is coming down here in buckets – coupled by higher winds and the streets starting to get flooded is certainly something that got all of our attention.” Fresh from the memory of the devastating 2017 season – where Florida was brushed, but other areas of the Caribbean were not so lucky, we begin another hurricane season that proves that nothing is ever an exact science when it comes to Mother Nature. Flooding, roofs flying from structures

Kiwanis Pasta Dinner Spotlights Community Support By Stephen Cummings stephencummings@att.net It’s been one of the events that has done so much to help raise money and bring the community closer together. On Friday night, June 1, the Kiwanis Club of Hallandale Beach will host it’s 13th Annual Pasta Dinner Fundraiser benefitting Gulfstream Academy, Hallandale High School Key Club and the Hallandale Beach Police Athletic League. President Leo Grachow and his hard working staff invites you to join in an evening of delicious Italian food coupled with music and many great

prizes at the Hallandale Beach Cultural Center (410 SE 3rd St, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009) from 6PM-8:30 PM. “This is one of those events that we look forward to each year,” Grachow said. “It’s about giving back - and enjoying an evening with friends and those who support what we are doing here in this community.” Like every year, raising money is always the objective, but at the same time, sitting down to enjoy a great meal is also plenty of fun. Meatballs and pasta, salad with beverages.
