Hollywood Becoming A Destination

From West To East - Projects Have Started To Lure Visitors and Residents Alike By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Hollywood - You can see it on 441 - from Washington Street to Stirling Road. It’s happening on the beach and throughout downtown and the famed Young Circle. Once the second largest city in Broward County, the City of Hollywood has fallen behind Pembroke Pines as far as population, but not for what it has to offer everyone. What Hollywood has become is a destination,

and with the growth of downtown, the new showpiece guitar hotel at Hard Rock, the many projects going throughout the community, people are flocking here more than ever before. Allan Wallace is a Fort Lauderdale resident, who is a business owner along Hollywood Boulevard. For 11 years, he has waited patiently for construction on the roads and in the development - to come to an end. He believes that the wait was worth what is happening.

The complete redevelopment on the heavily traveled corner of Hollywood Boulevard and 441 is one of the huge reasons. “I was a huge critic that this would completely ruin the area,” he pointed out. “Because the traffic patterns had changed so much - and the normal daily commute along Hollywood Boulevard sent people north to Johnson, Taft and Sheridan Street or south to Washington Hollywood, Page 6A

From the beaches to downtown and the 441 corridor, the City of Hollywood is becoming a place that all of south Florida is visiting.

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com What happened on Thursday in Annapolis, Maryland at the Capital Gazette Newspaper hit home to many journalists. But opinions, even as heated as they may be, never result in the senseless and tragic death of five people who not only meant so much as newspaper professionals, but true family people that elevated the life of

those in that community. Because one mentally-challenged individual, who stayed just on this side of breaking any laws in the past, we lost Editorial writer Gerald Fischman, 61; assistant editor and columnist Rob Hiaasen, 59; editor and longtime sports reporter John McNamara, 56; editor and reporter Wendi Winters, 65; and sales assistant Rebecca Smith, 34. “It is indeed a tragedy, but something that we are living with in these times,” explained longtime writer/broadcaster Evan Aronson. “A publication like the Capital Gazette had that old time open door policy that Shooting, Page 6A
