Major upgrades enhancing the 441 corridor
Over the past 25 years, businesses have been fighting an uphill battle to stay afloat By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com HOLLYWOOD – If you live, work or just travel around 441 in Hollywood, you already know what the past three decades have been along this heavily traveled corridor. Thousands of motorists have used the stretch between Pembroke Road to the south, and Johnson Street to the north – and while there had been signs of turning this into something more than vacant businesses and promises of what the future would hold.
Ali Martinez is one of those residents who has endured what had turned into an eyesore – and while local politicians and city planners attempted to explain what the future would look like – the explanation fell on deaf ears – and for good reason. “The property values dropped and the area had become a joke,” Martinez said. “I had written three letters back in the early 2000’s to see what would be happening with the old Fashion Center and many of those buildings that sat empty with boards covering the windows and graffiti splattered all over the facilities.”

Important Hollywood candidates debate HOLLYWOOD - As we all know by now, the races nationally and locally are heating up for the Nov. 8 election. The Hollywood Beach Civic Association, Hollywood North Beach Association and The Hollywood Lakes Civic Association will host the first local debate - Hollywood District One Commissioner and City Mayor electoral debate on Thursday, Sept. 29. The important debate will be held at the Hollywood Beach Cultural & Community Center, located at 1301 South Ocean Dr., Hollywood Beach at 7 PM. Parking will be free. The Hollywood Fashion Center was built in 1972.
