GROUND-BREAKING: Veteran Sonia Quiñones is Hallandale Beach’s first ever female police chief By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Anyone who has been around the City of Hallandale Beach for any length of time knows that when it comes to policing and embracing a community, the Hallandale Beach Police Department stands alone. While every community has its issues, very few of them have met the important problems and obstacles head on. That’s what has separated this City from the others. There has always been strong administrative leadership.

No matter who has been in charge - through the years, Hallandale Beach has been fortunate to have people who understood this very complex and diverse community. They have been able to understand the growth - and the many issues that face an area that has so many economic layers. As longtime Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy ended his tremendous career with the department, a City that always rewarded its own. They continued to do so in a big way - when 24-year veteran
