DEADLY NEW YEAR’S COMBINATION

There Are No Winners When You Drink & Drive

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Nobody needs to scare Jose Terranova this New Year’s Eve. That happened last year. While driving home from a New Year’s party

in South Miami with his girlfriend, this Hollywood resident almost saw his life come to an end - and he was 100 percent sober. As Terranova exited Pembroke Road off I-95

and headed east toward his home at 1:30 in the morning, he heard tires screeching as he looked up his car was hit from behind - and that was the last thing he recalled. When a drunk driver

jumped the curb and hit the car behind Terranova and his girlfriend, it slammed into their Honda, sending them spinning across the median and totaling his vehicle against a tree.

“The impact was intense enough where my head hit the top inside of my car, even with a seatbelt on,” he said. “My girlonly suffered friend bumps and bruises, but I broke my leg and had se-

vere head injuries.” Because he doesn’t drink, Terranova was the designated driver on that evening - and other than being tired on that Sunday evening - he was fine. Since we start to drive, we are told to watch out for the other guy. If we are sober and our head is clear, we need to pay attention. In this case it puts into perspective how quickly our lives can come to an end. “I had been in just one car accident ever and that was 25 years ago when I was 18,” Terranova said. “I was never a drinker, so going out on occasions like this always meant that I was the one with the clear head.” New Year’s Eve has long been called “amateur night” - as drinking is something that is done in excess, and unfortunately those doing the drinking are in no shape to think, Drunk, Page 4A

The Stars Come Out In South Florida New Year’s Eve Will Spotlight The Big Name Celebrities, Events

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com When it comes to star watching, nobody has that market cornered like south Florida does. This New Year’s Eve will once again showcase the top names in entertainment - and if they aren’t in Las Vegas or in the heart of New York City - this is an area to be. With the weather looking great for Monday night - everything is in place to ring in the New Year in grand style, and you can definitely be a part of it. “South Florida is always the place to spot some of the top names,” Angela Fredericks said. “Last year, we saw so many ‘stars’ walking along South Beach

“South Florida is always the place to spot some of the top names. Last year, we saw so many ‘stars’ walking along South Beach around midnight just hanging out.”

around midnight - just hanging out.” Indeed, whether it’s star watching or watching the stars perform, there are very few destinations like this. Among those that we will see this year will be “Mr. 305” Pitbull and Migos, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, Sister Sledge and DJ Ariel Assault. Pitbull’s annual New Year's Eve Revolution

draws tens of thousands of people to Bayfront Park in Miami each year, but cloistered within the madness is the Worldwide New Year's Eve VIP Food & Wine Party. Beginning at 7 p.m., VIP patrons will find more than 15 gourmet food stations, unlimited wine and craft beer, curated cocktails and a champagne toast. Stars, Page 4A

Very few areas across the country can put on a New Year’s Eve party like south Florida - and we will see that this coming Monday - with “Mr. 305” Pitbull’s annual New Year's Eve Revolution.
