Vision Problems No More
Medical professional is doing just fine - three years after cataract surgery on both eyes at Braverman Eye Center
For the first 65 years of her life, Verona Hibbert had no problems with her vision. However, through the years, she progressively needed stronger and stronger glasses. She lived a normal life, went to college in England and just did what most of us do. Then, a little over three years ago, her optometrist told the longtime nurse that she was developing cataracts - and it was not getting better. It was actually going to get in the way of her doing a job that
has consumed her life. One that she loved and had a passion for. “I remember the day he told me about my vision, and because I was a diabetic, the cataracts were developing at a faster pace,” Hibbert recalled. “That is when I needed to make something happen. It really was not even an option. I had to get this corrected.” Because she is a nurse and her vision is indeed paramount to the very patients she cares for, Hibbert immediately started to ask around and see who would be the right
doctor to get her vision back again. So, from a person who was always told that she had healthy eyes and outstanding vision, the Miami Gardens resident was faced with that important decision, but she was ready. “I asked around, and someone told me that Dr. (Stanley) Braverman was the ‘man’ when it came to these surgeries,” Hibbert explained. “From the first time I met him and his staff, it was a perfect fit. Even though Verona Hibbert never had vision problems most of her life, when she did develop cataracts, Dr. Stanley Braverman was there to help.

This has indeed been a five months to remember here in South Florida, but many of us are starting to dig out. From rain and flooding to Hurricane Irma, which brought different results to so many different people, it has been a challenge. But a challenge that DisasterStruck Public Adjusters owner Ilya Levitis has
been ready for - and has remained on that mission. From coping with Hurricane Irma - as well as various other housing losses from leaks, fires, roof damage, and even vandalism, the everyday public still has a security blanket in the form of DisasterStruck Public Adjusters - year round. "What we do is pretty
simple," Levitis said. "We basically fight for the rights of the homeowners, condo association owners, and condo associations. We try to get our clients the maximum reward possible so that they can get their property back in order." When Hurricane Irma came through South DisasterStruck, 3D
Veteran’s Day Takes On New Meaning This Year By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Millie Cohen’s grandson recently returned from a military tour oversees protecting our country. The longtime Hollywood resident had never thought about standing for the National Anthem or showing respect toward the flag. It was an automatic. But today, things are not so cut and dry, and what many of us grew up with, is no longer the norm. “My grandson, Jerry, is the first person in our immediate generation to serve in the military,” Cohen said. “My dad and grandfather did, but that is what you did during those times.” While listening to the protests over the flag and standing to show respect, it is now something that bothers Cohen - because she has a huge stake in the Navy - her grandson. “Jerry and people like him - white
and black, all religions and backgrounds are out there every day to make sure we have the freedom to do anything in this country,” Cohen pointed out. “If you have a protest, use another forum to do it. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends do not feel that this is the right arena to do this in, especially when all of us can get that visit at any time.” Being that this is America, we do have the right to protest and pretty much say what we want, but there has to be some understanding that by using the National Anthem as the main focus, there would be some kind of backlash - and many who would normally be sympathetic to the cause, would turn away and be angered that you are using a symbol that represents what we fight for every day.
