Rocky Two Months Ahead

As The Midrerm Election Draws Closer, Tension Will Continue To Mount By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com By the time November 6 rolls around, you will dislike every politician and everything that is associated with politics. Not to sound overly hateful, but this is the time of year - when many of us would prefer to bury our collective heads in the sand rather than put up with the messages that are conveyed on TV and in other media outlets. Elections are never civil. They are never about opponents getting along in any way, slinging more mud at each other whenever possible. The next two months are going to be terrible. It will get to the point - just like the primaries did - that we have had enough. “Watching these commercials have many of us not wanting to get out and vote,” Cece Miller said. “I live

here in Hallandale Beach, so we have no local elections to worry about. But we do have the governor to choose - and by that first Tuesday in November - we will end up not liking both people and both parties.” What the climate of politics has boiled down to is ‘Us vs. Them’ and the mid-term being just about everything to everyone. The importance of what happens here could tell a lot about the future of this country - at least in the short term. People are not happy with what’s going on and this is certainly a way to help make that change start to happen. “The big part of this election is the fact that it will be a huge Democratic-Republican war to grab control,” Dania Beach resident Allen Smith, Jr., pointed out. “I will be up front and tell you that I do not like what’s Midterm, Page 3A

Hollywood Fire Rescue Receives New Lifesaving Equipment From Firehouse Subs

Hollywood - Earlier this week, the Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department accepted a grant in the amount of $9,979 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The generous grant enables Fire Rescue to purchase 10 Wi-Fi cameras for

video laryngoscopes and 31 disposable scopes - lifesaving equipment that will be included in Hollywood Fire Rescue's emergency vehicles. The awarded devices will provide an efficient line of sight during intubation, improving chances of survival for patients suffering from res-

piratory and cardiac trauma. Grant funding is made possible by the overwhelming support of Firehouse Subs restaurants, their generous patrons and foundation donors. Each restaurant recycles leftover five-gallon buckets, available to guests for a $2 do-

nation to the foundation. Donation canisters on counters collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guest to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. Those are just a few of

A Painful Look Back At Irma - One Year Later Locally, Lives Were Lost Because People Were Just Not Prepared By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com One year ago this week, south Florida was without power, and many without hope in the wake of Hurricane Irma. While the storm skirted this area of the state, the damage that was caused, changed lives forever. As residents and businesses cleaned up the debris that covered roads and property, there was a much more serious event that this storm will long be remembered for. With many families en-

“What this was a year ago and still remains is that blame is being shifted everywhere. While I know that new bills were written to prevent anything like this from happening, it really should never have escalated to this point. It was 2017 - not 1950!” Candace Lincoln Home Health Professional trusting The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills to the care of their loved ones, the unthinkable happened. The temperature inside the

nursing home became a deathtrap for a dozen residents, soaring to 99 degrees Fahrenheit. 12 Irma, Page 3A
