CLAUDIO MARTINEZ MEHNER • Astonishing pianist and musical explorer performs in Aventura By Mark Patrick and Howard Rosen AVENTURA - Acclaimed Spanish pianist and master teacher Claudio Martinez Mehner will make his third South Florida appearance at The Aventura Arts and Cultural Center on February 23, performing works of Bach, Chopin, Albeniz and Debussy. His two previous concerts for The Miami International Piano Festival were so well received that Artistic Director Giselle Brodsky was determined to share his artistry with the Aventura community, the home base of The Festival. She explained that “this pianist is an explorer, constantly trailblazing new musical territory, always finding something unexpected, exciting, or profound, even in the most familiar works”. Martinez Mehner’s Florida debut performance in 2010 was selected as one of the “Top 10 Performances of 2010” by South Florida Classical Review. They wrote that Martinez Mehner “gave a tremendous recital, ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– PIANO, Page 3A

Martinez Mehner displayed absolute command of the keyboard, with a vast range of textures and an air of spontaneity, despite the immense thought and care he has clearly given these works.” His successful 2012 recital included a Schubert Sonata performance that was reviewed as “grand and sweeping in conception, delivered in a richly romantic style… heartrendingly musical”. Also a master teacher, Martinez Mehner has been an Assistant Professor at the “Reina Sophia” school in Madrid and piano teacher at the conservatories in Salamanca, Zaragoza, and the “Katarina Gurska” school in Madrid. He was recently appointed as a Piano Professor at the Hochschule fur Musik in Basel, Switzerland. He teaches courses throughout Europe, Asia and the U.S. Following this performance Martinez Mehner is flying to New York City to present two days of master classes for New York Concert Artists & Associates.

According to Giselle Brodsky, “the Miami International Piano Festival is dedicated to the discovery and support of sensational international pianists such as Martinez Mehner, those who are able to speak to the listener at a deep personal level, who go far beyond technical brilliance.” She noted that “our musicians are given complete freedom of programming

and expression and South Florida audiences are consistently treated to a fresh, exciting, and thought provoking musical experience.” She emphasized that Mr. Martinez Mehner’s recital will be memorable. The February 23 recital is the third of four Classical Sundays at Five at the Aventura venue. As part of the Aventura Cultural Series, the audience en-

gages in an intimate experience. A convivial reception follows. The Miami International Piano Festival’s Lecturer in Residence, Dr. Frank Cooper, proffers illuminating commentary for all of the recitals. The Sunday series concludes April 27 with Pavel Nersessian (Russia), one of the most remarkable Russian pianists of his generation and also a professor at Boston

Demolition of old City Hall site remains in limbo

ers have worked directly with the city manager and have been compensated fairly for their properties. These partnerships have helped us to avoid the lengthy eminent domain process. We are hoping to acquire the last pieces without any litigation through a quick take process. Cities are permitted to acquire land through eminent domain only for public infrastructure needs. A quick take allows for the city to file and pay just compensation to the owner. The quick take does provide that appraisals be performed and the owners receive a fair price. In addition to avoiding lengthy litigation the quick take allows the owner to avoid capital gains taxes. This process also assures that we are not paying excess of the asset’s value hence protecting taxes payers. Once completed this new facility will add to the neighborhood’s vitality and provide a much needed new station. The CRA has partnered with the city general services department to issue RFPs for multiple CRA

Many people that live in Three Islands for example have never been to Foster Park and vice a versa. Same with residents in Golden Isles have never been to BF James. The concept is to develop awareness of the great strides the city has taken to improving all areas of the city. To showcase that every area of our city is safe and most importantly our parks are a place for everyone to enjoy. We as a commission are hoping the entire community will join in celebrating our diversity, learn about what every park has to offer and most importantly learn how our parks are to vital to a sustainable future. I hope everyone has a wonderful love filled Valentine’s Day!

our Master Plan Vision the “One Hallandale Initiative” has begun. “One Hallandale” is a process to unify the city through our parks. The concept was tried on a smaller scale when we opened Foster Park. By bringing together the community a group of residents partnered with the city to ensure the park dedication was inclusive of our residents’ vision. The group was tasked with planning the event and including the needs of the city. One Hallandale is taking the initiative to the next level, citywide. They have held two meeting to date and are expanding their committee through a grass roots campaign. They will be tasked with planning two parks dedications; Joe Scavo and BF James. Working closely with the Parks Board they will be meeting at various parks within the city to promote awareness of our parks system and the different neighborhoods the parks are located in.

initiatives. The biggest being our Complete Streets Initiative. The design RFP provides for a full evaluation of our cities infrastructure needs within the CRA boundaries. The basis of design will include everything in the public domain; sidewalks bus shelters and benches, lighting, curbing, drainage, etc. The results will provide the CRA Board vital information in order to proceed in issuing bonds on our CRA TIF. Bonding will allow the CRA to do the work upfront. The CRA has also issued an RFP for OB Johnson Park. OB Johnson Park is part of our Master Parks Plan. Rather than waiting to see if the GEO Bond passes through the referendum process (hopefully it will) I requested as Chair to ensure that OB Johnson Park be reconstructed as part of the CRA Capital Improvement Plans. This park is vital to the redevelopment plans for the Palms area of our community. In conjunction with

There is light at the end of the tunnel for the many residents that have had to deal with this horrible eyesore in their neighborhood for many years. We entered in to a lease agreement for the old fire station that will allow operations to continue as we build a brand new main station. Over the next few weeks the site will be demolished and reestablished as a green field. After evaluation, other various sites for the new main fire station it was decided that Foster Road would be ideal. We could acquire land to fit the new building. Chief Sullivan had the opportunity to evaluate run times from different locations in the city and found the new site is compatible. It allows for good run times and access to main corridors. By Mayor Joy Cooper HALLANDALE BEACH - So many people have asked me what is going on with the old city hall site. The city has settled all the disputes with the property owner and was anticipating that the entire site would be demolished by the end of the year. Regretfully once on site the demolition contractor found issues that delayed the leveling of the building. Since the building was built years ago there had to be asbestos removal. This process is lengthy and EPA regulated. These much needed rules protect all our residents and ensure the site will not become contaminated. Work began to remove and clean up after the county released the demolition plan. As things progressed it was found that on the site was an FPL transmission system that included not just equipment but oil. This equipment could not be removed by the demolition crew it had to be done by FPL only. To say the least the turnaround time for FPL work orders take a while and we have little control over

those who embrace the holiday," Morrison said. "I love all those things that go along with Feb. 14 - and my family spoils me."

––––––––––––––––––––– others - seem to lose the true meaning. Alison Williams of Hollywood spent most of last weekend, searching for cards and other romantic items that would usher in a traditional Feb. 14 - when those small greeting cards and a box of sweets would represent so much. "I think we have all lost that meaning of what the holiday is all about," Williams said. "When you are younger, it's cute to call someone your valentine, but then as we mature, things change and we are pressured into buying expensive things at a time in our lives when we can least afford them." Even though some are planning to make this year a bit more special, they won't be spending much more than last year. In 2014, Valentine's Day is estimated to contribute around $17.3 billion to the economy. This is lower than the $18.6 billion estimate for last year, and even lower than the $17.6 billion they spent on Valentine's Day 2012. That's because only 54% of Americans are even bothering to celebrate it this year,

THE STATISTICS So, what exactly will people buy for their special someone? Aside from a card (51.2% will buy one), greeting cards will be a big ticket item. And while jewelry isn’t

the most purchased goodie, spending on it will reach $3.9 billion. Here are the items that people will purchase, along with the percentage of people who plan to buy them: • Greeting card – 51.2% • Candy – 48.7% • Flowers – 37.3% • A night out – 37% • Jewelry – 19% • Clothes – 15.8% • Gift card – 14%

compared to 60% last year. Cole Reese is one of those who figure that spending more than he expected at Christmas this year will result in something a little more homemade - a little of what the past has represented. "I went way overboard this year during December - so spending this week will be kept down," Reese said - as he picked out a few 'inexpensive' gifts at the Oakwood Plaza in Hollywood. "I am still in sticker shock over the bills I am having to pay right now." Those who are celebrating are spending a bit more than last year --

$133.91 vs $130.97. As usual, men spend a lot more than women: $113.34 per guy v.s. $56.97 per gal. That's probably because men are, on average, higher earners. Those making $50,000 a year or more will spend $95.21 each, vs $64.65 per person making less than $50,000. Younger people will spend more, as well. Those between 25-34 will spend $114.46 each, followed by those between 18-24, who will spend $104.15 each. Older folks

spend less, so that those age 65+ only spend $58.45 each. Like everything, there are indeed two sides to every story - and there are still hopeless romantics everywhere who love the holiday and the gift giving. They also enjoy receiving. Kayla Morrison of Dania Beach is one of those who loves to give on Valentine's Day - and also receive. This year, she is talking diamonds, chocolate and even dinner. "I guess I am one of

The legendary band Blondie celebrates its 40th Year Annversary at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach By Eleanor Hannan Born in Florida in 1945, Debbie Harry met Chris Stein in the 1970s, and the two started a band that would eventually become the world-famous group “Blondie.” They created new wave, a type of rock music inspired by punk and different music styles, including reggae and funk. Blondie began to gain a great deal of success. The band’s third album, “Parallel Lines,” brought Harry stardom and the song “Heart of Glass,” which reached number one on the charts both in America and in Britain. They had several number one hits such as: “Call Me,” “The Tide is High” and "Rapture,” the first commercially successful song featuring rap, making Debbie Harry as the star and made Blondie the most successful New Wave band of the seventies. In 1989, after a brief recess away from the music scene, Deborah returned with the brilliantly seductive song “Def Dumb and Blonde,” which she has since started to record under her own name. Her UK hit single, “I Want That Man,” that did very well in the US and went platinum in Australia and was followed by a world tour. She also recorded “Well Did You Evah,” for her Red Hot and Blue Album. Debbie Harry and the Blondie Band have been installed in the Music Hall of fame. Great deals are available for Blondie’s performance on February 15th, 2014 starting from a VIP package from $599 per night based on a 3 night stay which includes deluxe accommodations, 2 passes to the performance, a 2 hour open specialty cocktail bar, access to Beaulive Lounge throughout the weekend featuring complimentary specialty cocktails and a 2 p.m. late check out. Spaces Available, Upgrades Coming to RV Storage Facility HOLLYWOOD - The City’s Vehicle Storage facility located at 6850 Sheridan Street currently has spaces up to 25’ available for lease. Serving residents and businesses of Hollywood and surrounding areas, this facility is designed for storage of boats, RVs, trailers and commercial vehicles. The facility offers outdoor parking and is enclosed by fence with 24-hour gate access. Annual and bi-annual leases require a $100 security deposit and can be cancelled with 30 days written notice. The Office of Parking and Intergovernmental Affairs is currently renovating the facility with improved security technology. The work is expected to be completed by April 2014. Over the next few months, the City’s contractors will bury electrical and data lines and install new cameras. These enhancements include replacing a dialup gate operating system with an internet-based system. The new system will interface with the ex-

isting access card reader and will continue to grant active cardholders access into the facility. The system uses DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) connection, which will allow the Parking Office to remotely monitor activity in the facility and receive alerts when the gate malfunctions. A new video surveillance system will also be installed, and the existing four analog cameras will be replaced with eight new, high-resolution cameras. These cam-

eras will provide highquality video images even for night vision. One camera will be mounted at the gate’s entrance to capture license plate numbers as vehicles enter the facility. While the remaining six cameras will be mounted on light poles and placed strategically throughout the facility to create maximum visibility. In addition, five street lights will be replaced with six energy-efficient lights to produce a brighter, true color and il-

Did you know that Neck Pain is quite common? • Many neck problems, while not life threatening, can damage your health if not corrected Chances are, you’ve experienced a stiff or sore neck at one time or another. Given the complex mechanics and functions of the neck, it’s no wonder that neck pain is so common. This slender stem supports and balances a 10 pound head permitting it to bend up and down and to swivel almost 180 degrees. Through it pass blood vessels, nerves, the esophagus, the trachea, many muscles, ligaments and the cervical spine and spinal cord. All communication from the brain to other parts of the body must pass through the neck. THE CERVICAL SPINE The seven small spinal bones in the neck which doctors number C1 to C7 make up the cervical spine. Protected inside these cervical vertebrae is the spinal cord, the major neurological pathway from the brain to all parts of the body. An injury to the spinal cord can result in immediate paralysis or death. The cervical vertebrae are linked to one another by discs, ligaments, and tendons that allow remarkable flexibility. The normal shape of the neck rather than straight is a gentle forward curve.

This adds to the flexibility of the neck and allows for better handling of physical stresses. PROBLEMS WITH THE NECK Many neck problems, while not life threatening, can damage your health if not corrected. A fall or a car accident may cause sudden damage to the neck, or damage may occur slowly through vertebral Subluxation, spinal imbalance, physical or emotional stress or poor posture. Damaged or irritated nerves from misaligned cervical vertebrae can cause neck pains. In addition, they also can case a reduction in the normal range of motion in the neck, as well as pain in the face, shoulder, arm, wrist, hand and fingers. Headaches, visual disturbances, dizziness, difficulties with concentration or memory, ringing in the ears, learning impairments, nasal, tongue and throat problems have all been associated with problems traced back to the neck. The Chiropractic approach to treating neck pains is to find the source of the problems and correct the disturbance or imbalance. MINOR ACHES AND

DR. RON: Is being gay a choice? Dr. Ron…My nephew just informed our family that he is gay. I don’t know why he chose a gay lifestyle…he is so handsome; beautiful women just adore him. Why do people choose this type of lifestyle? A…It may not be a choice. Many experts suggest that homosexuality, or heterosexuality for that matter, is not a “choice”, but rather a born trait. Researches and scholars have been trying to answer this question for many years now. None have been able to do so. There are three main areas which have been studied and they are environmental theories, biological theories, and genetics. The late, great Sigmund Freud, had a compelling argument for those who believe homosexuality develops from environmental factors. Freud suggested that when a child is not able to relate and identify with the same-sex parent, the child will relate and identify with the opposite-sex parent, including the opposite-sex parents sexual orientation. Other environmental theorist have focused on a child’s early ability to relate to peers of the same and opposite sex and the positive and negative outcomes of these early sexual encounters. Biological factors have also been studied, particularly centering on hormonal functioning. It seems obvious in many ways that hormones which develop and maintain sexual functioning might be at the bottom of sexual orientation, but research has been inconclusive. And then there are theorist, who believe sexual orientation is in the genes. There is, in fact, some evidence that genes do play a part. Twin studies on both gay males and lesbians display some contributing genetic factor for sexual orientation, but these factors appear to account for only a small part of the overall picture. Science still does not understand the origination of sexual orientation, but what is more important is the attitude and love that you and your family will show to your nephew now that he is out of the closet. Try not to be disappointed, but instead hope he meets someone meaningful with whom he can share his life with. Remember, he is still the same loving nephew you loved and adored before you found out about his sexual preference… -Dr. Ron Dr. Ron is in private practice in 1250 E Hallandale Beach Blvd Ste 905 Hallandale Beach Florida, 33009. Have a question? you can contact Dr. Ron by phone at (954) 270 4226, or email askdocron@aol.com.

HEALTH QUEST By Dr. DiCarlo Premier Total Healthcare PAINS Many everyday habits or activities can contribute to neck pain. Sleeping in an awkward position, slumping over a desk, overwork, cradling your telephone between your ear and shoulder, or straining to see over the steering wheel are just some of the activities that can trigger muscle fatigue or strain. Anger, fear or

mental stress can cause neck muscles to tighten which, if prolonged, can lead to painful muscle spasms. Tension headaches also frequently follow bouts of sustained neck dysfunction. Occasional minor stiffness or strain is usually nothing to worry about. Often it will clear up with a good nights rest.

Learning what causes your neck pains and avoiding it can help prevent this discomfort. Persistent lingering or recurring discomfort can however be a sign of underlying dysfunction which if uncorrected could lead to more severe problems in the future. Chiropractic care has a long history of suc-

Where do you turn for help? You can find answers to many questions at the American Diabetes Association-EXPO events. These are free one-day diabetes-focused health events in more than a dozen metropolitan areas that bring health care professionals, leading experts and product exhibitors under one roof. Visit an EXPO near you and take advantage of free health screenings, talk with experts in a one-on-one setting, attend cooking demonstrations and visit product exhibits and presentations on diabetes prevention and management. Participate in the Family Fun/Healthy Kids area with information and activities geared toward youth with diabetes and their families. "Diabetes affects nearly 26 million children and adults in the U.S., with an additional 79 million having prediabetes," says Lurelean B. Gaines, RN, MSN, Immediate Past President of Health Care & Education for the American Diabetes Association. "EXPO is one way the Association helps those affected by diabetes learn how to live well, be active and change the future by providing free access to diabetes information, educational presentations and by bringing together a variety of local community health organizations where attendees get the benefit of a variety of screenings such as blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and foot screenings." The American Diabetes Association's EXPO began in 1995 in Phoenix, Ariz. and has grown to 13 cities around the country. In 2013, EXPO provided free diabetes information and support to nearly 65,000 individuals. For more information about diabetes or to find an EXPO in your area, call 800-DIABETES (800-342-2383) or visit diabetes.org/EXPO.

Change your Life with Dental Implants • Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. And because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent

Dr. Patricia Bobadilla is a phone call away for all your dental needs right here at Hallandale Beach - (954) 456-1939.

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS? Dental implants restore missing teeth to their most natural condition. The concept behind dental implants is exactly the same as natural teeth. Implant teeth, like natural teeth, anchor to the jawbone. This is the most important difference between implant teeth and other methods of teeth replacement such as dentures and bridges. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS? There are many advantages to dental implants, including: • Improved appearance. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. And because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent. • Improved speech. With poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur your words. Dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that teeth might slip.

your own teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain. IMPROVED SELF-ESTEEM. Dental implants can give you back your smile and help you feel better about yourself. IMPROVED ORAL HEALTH. Dental implants don't require reducing other teeth, as a tooth-supported bridge does. Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving longterm oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, improving oral hygiene. DURABILITY. Implants are very

durable and will last many years. With good care, many implants last a lifetime. CONVENIENCE. Removable dentures are just that; removable. Dental implants eliminate the embarrassing inconvenience of removing dentures, as well as the need for messy adhesives to keep them in place. HOW SUCCESSFUL ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS? Success rates of dental implants vary, depending on where in the jaw the implants are placed but, in general, dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%. With proper care (see below), implants can last a lifetime. CAN ANYONE GET DENTAL IMPLANTS?

IMPROVED COMFORT. Because they become part of you, implants eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures. EASIER EATING. Sliding dentures can make chewing difficult. Dental implants function like

The first step in the dental implant process is the development of an individualized treatment plan. Give TEAM BOBADILLA a call to set up that important consultation.

Thank you God, you got last night from me and you gave me today!

In most cases, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. Patients should have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. They also must be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Heavy smokers, people suffering from uncontrolled chronic disorders -- such as diabetes or heart disease -- or patients who have had radiation therapy to the head/neck area need to be evaluated on an individual basis. If you are considering implants, talk to your dentist to see if they are right for you. WHAT IS INVOLVED IN GETTING A DENTAL IMPLANT? The first step in the dental implant process is the development of an individualized treatment plan. The plan addresses your specific needs and is prepared by a team of professionals who are specially trained and experienced in oral surgery and restorative dentistry. This team approach provides coordinated care based on the implant option that is best for you. Next, the tooth root implant, which is a small post made of titanium, is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw. The healing process can take

from six to 12 weeks. Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post -called an abutment -is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, your dentist makes impressions of your teeth, and creates a model of your bite (which captures all of your teeth, their type, and arrangement). The new tooth or teeth is based on this model. A replacement tooth, called a crown, is then attached to the abutment. Instead of one or more individual crowns, some patients may have attachments placed on the implant that retain and support a removable denture. Your dentist also will match the color of the new teeth to your natural teeth. Because the implant is secured within the jawbone, the replace-

ment teeth look, feel, and function just like your own natural teeth. HOW PAINFUL ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS? Most people who have received dental implants say that there is very little discomfort involved in the procedure. Local anesthesia can be used during the procedure, and most patients report that implants involve less pain than a tooth extraction. HOW DO I CARE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS? Dental implants require the same care as real teeth, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. If you think you are a candidate for this kind of procedure please contact us for an appointment. Remember, you’re Smile is only a phone call away! 954-456-1939.

Progress being made at BF James, Scavo and South Beach Parks

Crews have been busy at three Hallandale Beach parks the past month. From left to right: BF James, Scavo and South Beach have been going through rennovations and many improvements.

BF JAMES Crews are deep in concrete as they put the finishing touches on the new B.F. James swimming pool. Construction workers also are leveling the basketball courts to be ready for the grand opening. The City

began construction on B.F. James Park in July 2013 as the first of the City’s parks in the Citywide Parks Master Plan. Burkhardt Construction is the general contractor for the City’s park projects. Join the City to meet the crew building the facility on the second Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. at 101 NW 9th St. SCAVO PARK A new restroom facility

at Joseph Scavo Park, 900 Three Islands Blvd., is taking shape as construction crew works toward a late March or an early April park opening. The City has four parks being redeveloped, with Joseph Scavo Park scheduled to be completed first. The new complex will include restroom facilities, an extensive fitness trail with multiple workout stations, two dog parks, one for

large dogs and one for smaller dogs, a basketball court and large areas of open space. The park is being built utilizing a large number of City residents and sub-contractors as part of the City’s Community Benefit Plan. The plan requires general contractors to consider City residents and subcontractors prior to hiring non-City crews. SOUTH BEACH Site preparation is well under way as crews begin work to reshape South Beach City Park, 1800 S. Ocean Drive (A-1-A). The City broke ground on the park on Friday, Jan. 31, and crews quickly went to work to get the park ready for a January 2015 opening.

In the photo, crews are busy tearing down the old restrooms. The invasive Australian pine trees have been removed in favor of native palm trees and plants. South Beach remains open during the construction. Access to the park is available along the paved walkway be-

tween the Beach Club Condominium and construction zone. Parking and restrooms facilities are available at the North Beach City Park located on the north side of the Beach Club Condominium. (Photos courtesy City of Hallandale Beach Public Relations).

Daring pairings: matching food and wine for the perfect Valentine's Day meal (BPT) - There's always a certain amount of trepidation at the thought of cooking Valentine's Day dinner. Whether it's an intimate meal for two or you're cooking for a dozen of your closest friends, do you go out on a culinary limb and serve something impressively daring, or do you play it safe with a tried and true menu? If you decide to take a chance, how daring are you? And, if your menu is an adventure for the taste buds, what wine do you pair with it? Recently, malbec received praise for being a versatile wine and a great choice for food pairing. In fact, when surveyed, more than half of culinary professionals agreed that malbec pairs with many types of foods. Whether you're serving something wildly daring, such as five-spice crusted short ribs with miso black garlic jus, or something mildly daring, like rigatoni with spicy salami and tomato sauce, you can't go wrong pairing it with malbec.

Alamos Malbec, America's most preferred malbec, is grown in the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Argentina. The result is grapes that combine bold layers of flavor and excellent natural acidity for a wine that pairs beautifully with just about any Valentine's Day meal. "Our unique growing conditions of intense sunlight and cool evening temperatures produce malbec grapes with incredible flavor making the wine highly versatile for pairing with food," says Alamos Winemaker Felipe Stahlschmidt. Entertain with confidence by leaning on malbec's versatility. Consider pushing the culinary envelope this Valentine's Day and pair malbec with daring cuisine, such as this recipe for Manchego and Chorizo-Stuffed Piquillo Peppers. Your guests will be impressed as they fall in love with you and your food. For more daring pairings, visit www.tastingtable.com/a lamos.

CHORIZO STUFFED PIQUILLO PEPPERS Pair with Alamos Malbec Ingredients: 1/2 pound smoked firm Spanish chorizo, chopped 3/4 cup chopped onion 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 cup seeded, chopped tomato 1/3 cup Alamos Malbec 1/4 cup chopped yellow bell pepper 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 1/2 cup shredded Manchego cheese, plus extra for topping 12 canned or jarred piquillo peppers, well drained (may substitute roasted red bell peppers if piquillo peppers are unavailable) Directions: Preheat oven to 450 F. Cook chorizo, onion and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat for 10 minutes or until onion is soft, stirring frequently. Stir in tomato, malbec, yellow bell pepper and seasonings and cook for 10 minutes more or until all excess liquid
