Historic Curci Home opens its doors this Saturday

Every first Saturday of the month, south Florida is treated to a bit of history in Hallandale Beach when the Curci Home opens its doors to a world that existed nearly 100 years ago for free. This walk through history traces one of the first families of the city in a home that has been refurbished to take on the 1920s look. Villa Providence (Curci House) will open this Saturday, May 2 on from 11am-4pm. The Curci Home is located at 324 SW Second Ave.

A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Major decision • Choosing the right candidate to replace Alex Lewy could impact Hallandale Beach By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com When it was announced that Vice Mayor Alex Lewy was stepping aside to take a position with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the wheels began to turn in the City of Hallandale Beach. While choosing a six month replacement to finish Lewy’s term appears to be easy – and Hallandale Beach has gone through it twice before – things may be a bit different this time around. If we can all focus on our neighbors to the north – Dania Beach – which made the news for deadlocking on a short-time replacement on its commission – –––––––––––––––––––––– CANDIDATE, Page 3A

Many believe that this current commission has been the best mix they have had in years. Now, the search is on to replace Vice Mayor Alex Lewy.

“I am focusing on moving forward and not backwards. The City has been progressing and implementing much needed projects. I am looking for someone that has a positive vision for a positive future.” MAYOR JOY COOPER HALLANDALE BEACH

ahead for local beaches

By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com If this past weekend is any indication of what we have to look forward to over the next five months, heading to the beach – any beach from Sunny Isles to Dania – will not be easy. As May hadn’t even arrived yet, this past weekend saw record crowds race to enjoy on the sun and calm surf on days where the temperature soared to 87. But as many arrived, they were greeted with long lines and very few parking spaces. “It’s this way from the county line north to Dania Beach,” said a frustrated Michael Tanner of Hollywood. “We couldn’t find a place to park anywhere that it didn’t cost you $20, so we came up to Dania Beach.” The thought that Dania Beach wouldn’t be crowded with sunbathers, fish–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– BEACHES, Page 3A

• Construction and lack of parking spaces will make this a challenging five months

HALLANDALE BEACH It’s the end of an era; the old City Hall has been leveled to make way for the relocation of the United States headquarters of Aspex Eyewear. Located at 308 S. Dixie Highway, the property was used as City Hall for 19 years, from 1968 through 1997. For more, see Page 6B.
