Discover the Arts Day Gasper Arts Center and WMODA Join Forces In Dania Beach on Saturday, May 14th, 2022 WMODA is partnering with Gasper Arts to promote creativity in our community. On Saturday, May 14th, 2022, at the two locations on South Federal Highway, visitors can enjoy artist demonstrations and exhibitions for selling ceramics and glass art.

The WMODA Museum creates cultural experiences and provides life-long learning opportunities to build the Dania Beach Arts Community. The new Gasper Arts Center expands this experience as an incubator for creativity with hand-on facilities for making ceramics and glass art. Gasper Arts will be open FREE to the public from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with tours of the new studios and shared workspaces plus demonstrations of pottery making, glass mosa-

ics, painting and more. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony with commissioners from Dania Beach at 1:00 p.m. to formally open the new facility. 22 newly renovated spaces are now available for artists and creative professionals to lease. The Illusion of Freedom: We’re Only as Free as the Government Allows

“Rights aren’t rights if someone can take them away.”— George Carlin We’re in a national state of denial.

For years now, the Government has been playing a cat-and-mouse game with the American people, letting us enjoy just enough freedom to think we are free but not enough to actually allow us to live as a free people.

Case in point: on the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court appeared inclined to favor a high school football coach’s right to pray on the field after a game, the high court let stand a lower court ruling that allows police to warrantlessly track people’s location and movements through their personal cell phones, sweeping Americans up into a massive digital data dragnet that does not distinguish between those who are innocent of wrongdoing, suspects, or criminals.

Likewise, although the Supreme Court gave the go-ahead for a death row inmate to have his pastor audibly pray and lay hands on him in the execution chamber, it refused to stop police from using hidden cameras to secretly and warrantlessly record and monitor a person’s activities outside their home over an extended period of time.

For those who have been paying attention, there’s a curious pattern emerging: the Government appears reasonably tolerant of those who want to exercise their First Amendment Rights in a manner that doesn’t challenge the police state’s hold on power, for example, by praying on a football field or in an execution chamber.

On the other hand, if you dare to disagree with the Government about its war crimes, COVID-19, election outcomes or police brutality, you’ll find yourself silenced, cited, shut down and/or

branded an extremist.

The U.S. Government is particularly intolerant of speech that reveals the Government’s corruption, exposes the Government’s lies and encourages the citizenry to push back against the Government’s many injustices. For instance, Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange, the lat-

having appointed itself a Supreme and Sovereign Ruler, allows us to bask in the illusion of religious freedom while stripping us of every other freedom afforded by the Constitution.

We’re in trouble, folks.

est victim of the Government’s war on dissidents and whistleblowers, is in the process of being extradited to the U.S. to be tried under the Espionage Act for daring to access and disclose military documents that portray the U.S. Government and its endless wars abroad as reckless, irresponsible, immoral and responsible for thousands of civilian deaths.

Even politician protests are fair game for prosecution. In Florida, two protesters are being fined $3000 for political signs proclaiming stating “F—k Biden,” “F—k Trump” and “F—k Policing 4 Profit” that violate a city ban on “indecent” speech on signs, clothing and other graphic displays.

The trade-off is clear: pray all you want, but don’t mess with the U.S. Government.

In this way, the Government,

talking about the right to criticize the Government in word or deed, the right to be free from Government surveillance, the right to not have your person or your property subject to warrantless searches by Government agents, the right to due process, the right to be safe from militarized police invading your home, the right to be innocent until proven guilty and every other right that once reinforced the founders’ belief that this would be “a government of the people, by the people and for the people.”

Not only do we no longer have dominion over our bodies, our families, our property and our lives, but the Government continues to chip away at what few rights we still have to speak freely and think for ourselves.

On paper, we may be technically free.

say and do—our very lives— depends on the benevolence of Government agents and corporate shareholders for whom profit and power will always trump principle. Now the Government is litigating and legislating its way into a new framework where the dictates of petty bureaucrats carry greater weight than the inalienable rights of the citizenry.

With every court ruling that allows the Government to operate above the rule of law, every piece of legislation that limits our freedoms, and every act of Government wrongdoing that goes unpunished, we’re slowly being conditioned to a society in which we have little real control over our lives.

In our quest for less personal responsibility, a greater sense of security, and no burdensome obligations to each other or to

future generations, we have created a society in which we have no true freedom.

Government surveillance, police abuse, SWAT team raids, economic instability, asset forfeiture schemes, pork barrel legislation, militarized police, drones, endless wars, private prisons, involuntary detentions, biometrics databases, free speech zones, etc.: these are mile markers on the road to a fascist state where citizens are treated like cattle, to be branded and eventually led to the slaughterhouse.

We are overdue for a systemic check on the Government’s overreaches and power grabs.

Where we find ourselves now is in the unenviable position of needing to reign in all three branches of government - the Executive, the Judicial and the Legislative - that have exceeded their authority and grown drunk on power.

The American Kleptocracy (a government ruled by thieves) has sucked the American people down a rabbit hole into a parallel universe in which the Constitution is meaningless, the government is all-powerful and the citizenry is powerless to defend itself against Government agents who steal, spy, lie, plunder, kill, abuse and generally inflict mayhem and sow madness on everyone and everything in their sphere.

Unfortunately, there is no magic spell to transport us back to a place and time where “we the people” weren’t merely fodder for a corporate gristmill, operated by Government hired hands, whose priorities are money and power.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, our freedoms have become casualties in an all-out war on the American people.

If we continue down this road, there can be no surprise about what awaits us at the end.

If you truly want to tug on Mom’s heartstrings, have your kids tell her how they really feel about her with a handmade card to express their love. You may be surprised with their sweet sentiments. You can have them create it on the computer if they are a bit savvy or go old-school with colored pencils, crayons and plain paper.

The best way to do this is have your kids write out the words first and then draw pictures around them. You could even decorate it with glitter or photos taken during special moments over the past year.

If your Mom has a sweet tooth try an at home ice cream sundae bar. Indulge it by making an ice cream sundae with her favorite toppings. By having the bar at home it will be sure to not break the bank plus there might even be extra to have another day. An inexpensive way to create this sundae bar is to start at the dollar store, they have a variety of glass bowls and goblets to make the day extra special.

Pick up some of Mom’s favorite ice cream, goodies and voila, you have a perfect treat for everyone! Just don’t make Mom do the dishes after!

There is another classic favorite, breakfast in bed. You may need to take the lead on this for really young ones, or even lay out some of Mom’s favorite foods the night before. A meal made with love is the perfect way to start the day. Even if you aren’t the best in the kitchen, have no fear, just follow this simple recipe and you will be sure to have something Mom will enjoy and remember for years to come!

Easy Eggs Benedict Ingredients: • 6 Slices of Deli Ham • 1 1/2 Tablespoons of Butter • 3 English Muffins split and toasted • 6 Eggs Hollandaise Sauce: • 1 Cup 2.75 Ounces of Butter • 1 Egg Yolk • 1 Tablespoon of cold Water • 1 Teaspoon of Salt and Pepper • 1/4 Of a Juiced Lemon Equipment: • 1 Frying pan • 1 Glass bowl • 1 Whisk Method: Sauté the ham slices in the butter for a couple of minutes. Place the ham on the English muffins. Pour on any butter from the frypan. Poach the eggs in salted, simmering water in a frypan.

Spoon the water over the eggs. When set, remove with a slotted spoon. Place on top of the ham. Sauce: Melt the butter and add the juice of a quarter of a lemon.

Place the egg yolk and the water in a metal or glass bowl sitting it over a pan of hot water on low heat with the bowl touching the water. Whisk the mixture while slowly pouring in the melted butter.

Whisk the yolk mixture briskly as it cools.

It will thicken and double after five minutes. Spoon over the eggs on the muffins.

You can substitute ham for bacon or smoked salmon. Baby spinach leaves under the eggs is also a nice addition. If the Hollandaise Sauce starts splitting, add a drop more water over the low heat, whisk it and it should come together again. You can also take it up a notch by adding some fresh fruit on the side with a dash of whipped cream.

Charter Review Proposals For November’s Ballot Eleven Changes Have Been Proposed For The City of Hallandale Beach

Last week, I began to share with our readers about the Charter Review proposals for this November’s Ballot. Our Charter Review Committee has worked for the past year to review our Charter and debating changes to our governance and Charter positions. The proposal is going to be discussed at a workshop where the Commission makes that final decision on what will be placed on the Ballot. In all, eleven changes were proposed.

As of the writing of this article, I do not have the final questions that will go on the Ballot, but I will keep our readers updated.

The first of the eleven included changing pronouns, language on the Mayor being a spokesperson, requiring the Mayor and the Commission to hold a minimum of two Town Hall Meetings annually, one on the east and one on the west, clarification of Ex-Official Positions, attendance at meetings, clarifying vacancies on the Dais and the hiring of Special Auditors.

There are four more that are of significance. The first, is the addition of specific language and requirements for the City Attorney and the City Manager.

The City Attorney and the City Manager, serve at the will of the Commission, in other words, the Commission has the right by vote to hire and fire these positions.

Over 4 years ago there was a political change on the Commission. After the General Election, the Commission fired both the City Attorney and the City Manager by a 3-2 Vote.

While it is not unusual for these positions to change with a new majority of the Commission, the way it was done, it created two large lawsuits against the City.

The City Attorney filed suit against the City and lost her case.

The City Manager on the other hand won his case and was awarded damages of $4 Million Dollars.

While the case is still in the appeal process, I cannot go into the details but obviously if not overturned, it will have a chilling effect on our budget. I told the Commission at the time to simply fire the two without cause and to move on as I foreshadowed the Lawsuits.

The first thing the two Amendments do is to require that both the City Manager and the City Attorney have employment contracts. Currently, they both do as a best business practice, but this rule would make it a permanent requirement.

The two Amendments will not prevent the City Attorney or the City Manager from being fired but it does clarify the specific measures and how to go about the removal process. This sets

guidelines and timeframes for the appeal of the decision and chance for the employees to make their case. It also allows for separate resolutions to decide on the issue of Severance. The most important change would be to remove the City Attorney or the City Manager and would require a supermajority Vote of 4-1.

These Amendments will go a long way in ensuring that protections are in place to

prevent what transpired 4 years ago.

The third is the creation of major changes to the City Clerk’s position. Currently, the City Manager appoints the City Clerk.

Their job is to give notice of meetings, keep all of the journals of meetings and to be Custodians of Public Records.

The changes to this position were brought forth by the City Manager.

This creates a position that will be hired by the City Commission and will work directly for the City Commission.

The City Clerk would be under contract and all of the other processes regarding firing the City Clerk will mirror that of the City Manager and the City Attorney.

Over the years, there have been internal issues with Commissioners getting Public Records. It is my understanding that the former City Manager

would direct the City Clerk or the City Clerk’s Staff to withhold documents. In my tenure, I have only run into one issue where I could not get information and that was from a former CRA Executive. I am not sure what the reasons were, but the philosophy is that since the City Manager handles hiring and firing of the City Clerk, he or she has undue influence over said employee.

The last change is to the appointing of the Charter Committee. It changes the time and length of appointments.

Currently, they must be appointed in November. The change is to move the appointments to May which will give the Commission more time for preceding the current Election. It also provides that work can be done over 12 months rather than six and provides that a budget be set for the Charter Committee. The major change provides Amendments that pass with a Unanimous Vote and must be placed on the Ballot. Currently, there is a Position Process for Amendments that may not make it through the Commissions, however, they must still be certified by the Commission.

Aventura Brightline Station & New Office Building (T) The Brightline Station in Aventura has a completion scheduled for Fall 2022 (B) Recently plans have been submitted for Two Turnberry, a 14-story office building. If so, start making changes to your route because it’s going to last till October.

Brightline is currently constructing new areas of their rail line to bring passengers from their Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach stops to Orlando and beyond. The team is hard at work to continue these exciting expansion plans and the Aventura Station connecting South Florida is in full swing. With expansion comes construction and traffic and West Dixie Highway is closed as part of those plans. Below are the details of road closures that will be affected.

West Dixie Highway in northern MiamiDade County (Aventura) is closed through October 2022 as Brightline continues work on the Aventura Station Project. That part of West Dixie Highway, south of the Aventura Mall is closed between Northeast 202nd Street and Northeast 195th Street continuing through October of this year. Brightline’s Aventura Station will be located across from the Aventura Mall.

Here are the details to get your commute prepared for the road closures in Miami-Dade County, West Dixie Highway between Northeast 202nd Street and Northeast 195th Street. Construction crews will have a full road closure through October 2022. The detour around the closure is as follows: • Southbound West Dixie Highway traffic will be directed to travel west on Northeast 206th Street or Northeast 202nd Street and turn south on Northeast 26th Avenue which joins with West Dixie Highway south of Northeast 193rd Street.

• Northbound West Dixie Highway traffic will be directed to continue north on Northeast 26th Avenue and travel east on Northeast 202nd Street to access West Dixie Highway.

Motorists are encouraged to proceed with extra caution through the work zones and adhere to the posted detour signs, speed limits and other signage.
