Robert Koutras, a resident of Hollywood, Florida portrays King Basilius at the Broward Center Robert Koutras, a resident of Hollywood, Florida, portrays King Basilius in Slow Burn Theatre Company’s Season Finale Head Over Heels in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center from Friday, June 10th, 2022 through Sunday, June 26th, 2022. A Carbonell Award Nominated Actor, Koutras portrays the head of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction - only to discover the key to their realm’s survival lies within each of their own hearts. The Story is set to the hit Songs of The Go-Go’s and Belinda Carlisle, including: “We Got The Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” and “Mad About You.” The bold new Musical Comedy is from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Avenue Q and Spring Awakening. City Center, LLC along with the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA) Staff, City Commissioners, Deputy Vice Chair, Mike Butler, Director, Michele Lazarow, City Officials and others came out to celebrate the GroundBreaking of this Transformative Project. Known as the Hallandale City Center, the 4-Acre, Mixed-Use Project will feature approximately 8,000 Feet of Commercial/Retail Space, which will be utilized by a small neighborhood “Green Grocery” Store. 270 parking spaces
Congratulations to Cadet Colonel Van-Ainsley Planchar (pictured right holding check) for being named Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet of the Year. VanAinsley, a junior at Piper High School, has participated in JROTC for three years. The awards ceremony took place at Pompano Beach High School on May 20, 2022. Thirty-one cadets – one from each high school – were vying for the honor of being named BCPS JROTC Cadet of the Year. The cadets were evaluated on their academic performance, demonstrated leadership, community service and school involvement, as well as their JROTC participation. The remaining top finishers were runner-up Cadet Ashleigh Madar from Cooper City High School and Distinguished Cadets Anivens Jean-Louis from Boyd Anderson High School, Johnathan Onesemiuc from Hollywood Hills High School, Edward Garcia from Nova High School, Ashley Oliveira from Pompano Beach High School and Maraisa Carrion from South Broward High School. Hallandale City Center This Vision Has Been Long In The Making The “Northwest Section ‘’ of Hallandale Beach as it’s known by locals is defined as North of Hallandale Beach Boulevard and West of Dixie Highway. Over the decades, the area has gone through many changes and had many visions for its future. One of these visions has been in the works with the consistent dedication of the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA), along with City Officials and Staff. On Thursday, June 9th, 2022 the fruits of all this labor came to fruition with the Official “Groundbreaking Ceremony” held at the
site, across from City of Hallandale Beach Fire Station 7. Directly across the street from the station is the development site of Hallandale City Center, sitting at the Northwestern corner of Foster Road and West Dixie Highway. Foster Road is the main thoroughfare that cuts through the Northwest. The official areas the development covers are: 505 Northwest 2nd Avenue/501 Northwest 1st Avenue/ 110 Foster Road; 501 North Dixie Highway; 605 North Dixie Highway and 608 Northwest 1st Avenue. Hurricane Season Has Begun 1-in-4 Floridians Would Ignore Hurricane Evacuations The 2022 Hurricane Season officially began June 1st and runs through November 30th. The recent Storm should be a wake up call for all of us. According to NOAA Climate Prediction Center, the 2022 Season Outlook predicts above normal Hurricane Activity. For the 2022 Hurricane Season, NOAA is forecasting a likely range of 14 to 21 Named Storms with winds of 39 miles per hour or higher, of which 6 to 10 could become Hurricanes with winds of 74 miles per hour
