Become a Water Watcher this summer In-Home Podiatric & Wound Care is what makes Dr. Abraham Wagner special
HOLLYWOOD - We have designated drivers and designated hitters in baseball. Why not have designated adults to protect kids who are swimming? Child safety groups in South Florida are making a push to enlist designated Water Watchers. These adults are crucial – they agree to pay undivided attention to children in or near an area where there is a high risk of drowning. Broward County, home to 130,000 backyard pools and miles of waterways, lost nine children under age of 4 last year. “The No. 1 thing you can do to prevent drowning is have a qualified adult watching the children at all
times,” says Linda Olson, Health Educator at the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. To become a Water Watchers you do not need special training, but you must be able to swim and ideally you should know CPR. Water Watchers receive a badge to wear around their necks so everyone is able to see the person responsible for watching the children. Through its quarterly New Horizons magazine, facebook and twitter feeds, the City of Hollywood has been helping to spread information about the Florida Department of ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– WATCHERS, Page 3A
