Tackling the vital issue of racism Social media continues to be at the center of recent police-related shootings Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com It’s something that we’ve had to combat and fight since the beginning of time. Prejudice and racism are the two words that will simply not go away. No mater what race, religion or belief you have in this world we live in, there will be someone - or a group - that will disagree and hold it against you. That is where it starts. At a time when our law enforcement are under a microscope like never before - with the advent of social media and videos stirring the pot like never before - there is something daily to remind all of us that the light at the end of the tunnel that always encourages, is nowhere in sight. Dallas, Chicago, New York, Minnesota and just about anywhere you have authority, and it is being torn apart like never before. Black vs. white; police vs. the community.

What happened in Dallas could easily have played out in over 100 larger cities, and with the climate of the hostility that continues to boil over, it is only a matter of time before Miami, Fort Lauderdale or any of the smaller communities in between, will be doing the same thing. It’s where we are in this world. This black vs. white issue, while it has been mended in so many cities and communities in this nation, continues to be torn apart, and those horrible memories of the past, continue to surface. That is something that makes this hard to forget and difficult to wipe away. Karl Brown was a policeman for 26 years in New York and currently lives in Hallandale Beach.
