What’s Happening At The Library

In Broward there are free online events for all ages, including book discussions, classes and workshops, business seminars, children’s programs and more. In Miami-Dade the library system reopened to the public on an expanded schedule beginning in June, with coronavirus (COVID-19) safety measures.

Even With The Pandemic There Are Programs Available Recently, we received a few calls from residents about what is happening with the library, specifically in Broward, when are they opening? We also contacted Miami-Dade to see about their status, and programs available. In Broward we contacted Catherine McElrath, Public Communications Specialist for the Broward Library Division. Catherine informed us that they do not have a date for reopening yet, but they are currently offering Walk-up/Drive-up Service as well as phone reference/assistance. They are also offering free online events for all ages, including book discus-

sions, classes and workshops, business seminars, children’s programs and more. All libraries will remain closed to the public until further notice. Please note the following service changes/ adjustments: • Fines: No late fines will be assessed during the library’s closure. • Branches: All branches are closed to the public, but staff is available to answer calls. • Book Drops: All bookdrops are open, there will be no overdue fees assessed during this time. • Holds: Customers can place holds on eBooks and eAudiobooks. • Library Cards: While we are

temporarily closed, we encourage anyone without a library card to apply for an Instant eCard to get immediate access to the library’s digital collection.

Bacteria & Viruses In Your Home

When it comes to mold and mildew, we cannot take those potential hazards lightly. A mold problem can cause you to experience dizziness, anxiety and depression. If you have been experiencing a diminished attention span or problems with your memory, it might be a good idea to have your home inspected for black mold by a mold remediation crew.

1st Priority Restoration Can Help, (1-800-617-1112) The world today is much different than it was just months ago, and we are all looking for answers on how to protect ourselves. There is no bigger issue for everyone than their health. With viruses & bacteria on everyone’s mind and in the headlines, the uncertainty about how to avoid contracting an illness and getting sick has everyone on edge. The best way to combat this fear and anxiety is with knowledge. The knowledge about the proper steps to protect yourself and your loved ones outside and inside your home. For the near future, wear a mask, sanitize yourself and your home.

This will be the new norm, so arm yourself with the facts, and that will help decrease your anxiety. Outside of the home we have less control over our environment, but there are ways to lessen your exposure. The CDC (Centers For Disease Control) has recommendations for steps to protect yourself. First, stay home when you are sick, this will help stop the spread. Limit movement in the community, establish ways to communicate with family and friends that don’t require person to person contact. Discuss with your employer the possibility of working from home.

Clean your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available,

use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
