Chabad of South Broward celebrated their 43rd Annual South Florida Chassidic Chanukah Festival Thursday Dec 22 with a concert at the Glamorous Venue Hard Rock Live Casino and Hotel, in Hollywood, only 2 years removed from a quarantined-style drive in concert at the Big Easy parking lot in Hallandale.
Modi Rosenfeld, a popular
Jewish comedian, has called Florida “a year round Pesach program.”
Thousands of Jews flooded Hard Rock Live. Shluchim brought groups from their Chabad Houses, Chai Lifeline had hundreds of guests at the Festival, and thousands of educators, professionals, and businessmen, including people driving from as far as Atlanta and flying in from London, England, witnessed this incredible performance.
2,500 children received Chanukah Gelt and the Moshiach Times! 1,500 Chanukah Menor-
ahs and candles were distributed!
Walking through the “Guitar Hotel,” that is seen from commercial jets before landing in South Florida, amid curious glances, Jews from all walks of life gathered for this special Chanukah Festival as it is a Hakhel year when large gatherings are especially encouraged, as were in the time of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
The seamless event, produced by Dovid Weinbaum of DW Productions, began with children saying the 12 Pesukim, a miracle story and a heartfelt cry
for Ad Mosai.
Contemporary artist Ishay Ribo had the sold out venue on their feet with flashlights on, as he lit the room with heart felt music.
Avraham Fried exuberantly jumped on stage and sang iconic classic Jewish music. Bochurim danced on the sides to
Niggunim. The energy in the room was palpable.
Ishay Ribo and Avraham Fried performed jointly for an unexpected yet effortless duo.

Shop With A Cop: Hallandale Defines The Spirit Of A Community
By Stephen Cummings
As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of giving to those less fortunate than ourselves defines the spirit of a community.
The Hallandale Beach Police Department in conjunction with the Hallandale Beach Police Athletic League brightened the lives of 110 deserving children showering them with gifts and encouragement building gingerbread houses together celebrating the annual tradition of Shop With A Cop.
Foster Park has become the newest venue for the Police Athletic League hosting their various
programs and PAL Program Director, Jonathan Carrillo decorated the facility with great assistance from Laqueshia Brinson and fellow staff members from Gulfstream Academy reflecting a scene from a winter wonderland.
The children were chosen by the Police Department and the schools as each child created a wish list for Santa Claus and the presents were purchased at a local Walmart.
Carrillo is grateful to the lead sponsors for their continued generosity who include Harry Escandon from Crosstown Towing and Recovery and David Burton who serves as the fundraising chair
for the PAL as well the Windhover Foundation with Richard Quadracci. Also, this event is made possible by local Attorneys Robert and Stephanie Fehnstersheib, AIG Technologies, Page Properties LLC. and Kiwanis Member Stephen Cummings.
Prior to Santa delivering the gifts to the anxious children, Ricardo Mendez, Director Of Community Relations for Chick Fil A ensured that all the guests and volunteers were well fed with chicken sandwiches, chips, cookies and juice packs. Mendez has been a huge supporter of the Police Athletic League often providing complimentary food.
Shop With A Cop takes place in several communities, but none to my memory serve as many needy kids as in Hallandale Beach. This program was implemented in Hallandale Beach in the late nineties and often took place inside Walmart, but Jonathan Carrillo has slightly redesigned the program since the wave of COVID-19 swept the nation. Hallandale Beach Police Chief Michel Michel, a twenty year Veteran of the Police force proudly watched scores of officers volunteer their time sitting with the children making the gingerbread houses presenting themselves in a very positive
fashion. The reality is that we usually see police officers when we are in trouble or receiving a traffic citation, but they relish the opportunity to perform community service with our youth. The world has been plagued by the rising costs of goods and services due to inflation, but the City of Hallandale Beach rallies each year ensuring smiles and laughter to those children who are selected to participate in this altruistic program.

2022 - Year In Review: We Obviously Are Still Not Out of The Woods
By
What a year 2022 has been. We started off with the Omicron Variant and now are still dealing with COVID-19. It has been a full two years this January that we have been dealing with the virus. Currently we are still hearing about case after case. I keep hearing of individuals and children traveling and ending up with COVID-19. So, the virus is still as insidious as it has ever been. The message is, if you are at risk go get the new shot.
2022 for the City started off luckily without any fiscal urgency. This would not have been possible since we were still utilizing the ARPA Economic Relief. No matter what you may think of our President he has done an amazing job. Thanks to President Biden and Congress for making sure that they address the crisis head on. Without this aid, many communities would have gone bankrupt. More importantly, many, many families would have not made it through. We obviously are still not out of the woods.
Pundits and residents alike love to complain about the rampant inflation and blame it on the President. In reality, the economic crisis and inflation is worldwide. Manufacturing shut-
downs, unemployment and oil shortages created world instability. Our inflation rate has been lower than other countries and we are starting to see stabilization in the GPI and CPI. This situation is not going away as many predict it will continue into 2023.
The war in Ukraine began in February 2022 and added further unrest globally. Food shortages and oil prices continue to be at risk. This war has been creating added instability that has compounded inflation due to COVID-19. Worldwide supply chain issues that started during Covid continue to directly impact every industry. This includes our local government.
In 2022’s City of Hallandale Beach budget, we had to make tough decisions that include raising our tax rate. While we have been righting the ship, we are still having issues with operational costs, employment challenges from the many people dropping out of the job market and cost of supplies.
These costs have delayed some of our projects. Many of our pumping stations and underground infrastructure projects that were to start in October
have been delayed until the first quarter of 2023. With many specialty firms in high demand, we were at least able to secure RFPs. Now it is a matter of equipment and workers.
side contracting with Broward County and Calvin Giordano which will help us make our goal of reducing permit timing.
Construction is booming in Florida. With the great migration in the state and the high demand for affordable housing, many firms are focused on that construction field. Many also are addressing the other crisis from 2022, the Surfside catastrophe. This has put high pressure on our building department.
Our City has been working to address staffing levels and move the department in the right direction. I am happy to report we have finally expanded our out-
2022 also brought us a renewal of our Police Department. The year 2020 and before our Department was down over 20 officers. This was truly unacceptable and a result of poor management and lack of oversight from previous Commissions and City Managers. We hired Chief Michel to lead the department and since then we have hired many new officers and filled the Gap, As of a month ago they were still 5 down, but this number was typical in Departments. Officers retire and some move to other Departments.
City Manager Earle has been keenly focused on all Departments and has set up teams to address many problems. The Finance Department has been working to address a critical meter reading issue throughout our City. The major
cause has been the meters. Many meters have malfunctioned. They are under warranty but due to supply chain issues we have been unable to replace them in a timely manner. They have developed a plan that was presented last meeting that will tie water plants, billing and new meters. In 2023 this plan will be implemented.
2022 also marked the City approval for PAL to move into Foster Park. This will be a welcomed change to Foster Road and a place for our children to play and learn. PAL is always looking for volunteers to help with sports and special projects.
While we have had many challenges in 2022 our City is moving in the right direction. We made it through the Election Cycle and retained an important seat filled by Mike Butler and filled the other seat with Joy Adams, this ensures stability not simply for the Commission but our residents and City. We all look forward to 2023 and are here to address those challenges ahead.

tiple angles of the singers. The precision to detail took this yearly event from amazing to awe inspiring.
At one point the room was dark, and all that was seen was the flickering lights of the Menorah.
There was a quality in the air that sparked. The reason lighting candles was chosen to commemorate the miracle of Chanukah, was that fire is the most spiritual component in our world. It doesn’t take up any physical space, and is constantly reaching upwards. Chanukah was most important a spiritual victory, which is why this musical and magical event was the appropriate way to celebrate.
At one point we saw a video where The Rebbe spoke in English, an unusual and incredible moment, about the importance of Hakhel gatherings and all that these gatherings can accomplish.
To affirm this idea, it was followed by a clip of Dr. James Reich featured on JEM, where Dr. Reich explains how he attended a Sunday Night ESPN NFL Dolphins game in 1987, and he saw Rabbi Tennenhaus light a huge menorah in the end zone. The strong sense of Jewish pride he felt that night changed the entire trajectory of his life. He is
one was inspired and uplifted, watching these incredible inspiring clips.
The joyous and meaningful music, the Menorah flames, watching the Rebbe all together, one nation united as one, was riveting!
All in all it was a Hakhel night to remember.

Call the Right Number to Get the Right Help in Hollywood
The same call-takers and dispatchers that answer emergency calls to 911, also answer the police and fire nonemergency number
Broward County’s Regional Communications System provides critical tools to our law enforcement and fire rescue community. The same call-takers and dispatchers that answer emergency calls to 911, also answer the police and fire nonemergency number (954.764. 4357).
Unnecessary calls to the non-
emergency number increases the load on staff that is relied upon to respond quickly and accurately to true emergency calls. Help to reduce the number of unnecessary calls by knowing what number to call. In an emergency, call: 9-1-1.
For instances that require law or fire/EMS dispatch but do not require an immediate response call: 954.764.4357. The police and fire non-emergency number is not to be used to obtain general information, request a police report, or report code compliance issues. It should be
used to report a minor vehicle accident with no injuries or hazards, report identity theft, or report stolen items when a suspect is not on the scene.

“The joyous and meaningful music, the Menorah flames, watching the Rebbe all together, one nation united as one, was riveting!”
The Miami Dolphins Football UNITES Program and Air Pros USA, a local residential and commercial air conditioning services company and the official Air Conditioning partner for the NFL team, came together to provide new A/C Units for those in need in the community.
The first recipient was Sergeant First Class Select Guillermo Oeding of Homestead. He was surprised with a new unit after being nominated by The Wounded Warrior Project, a Miami Dolphins Football UNITES Community Partner.
Representatives from Air Pros USA and the Miami Dolphins showed up on his doorstep to give the servicemember and his family a new A/C Unit. He has been in the Army for the past 15 years and is hoping to continue to honorably serve his country until retirement. Sergeant Oeding has been deployed five times; including three times to Iraq, once to Afghanistan and once to South America. Sergeant Oeding not only takes full care of his immediate family but is also the caretaker for his mother. His 11-year-old Service
Dog, Gunther also lives in the home.
“As a South Florida company, everyone at Air Pros USA is grateful for the opportunity to give back through our ongoing partnership with the Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ Program, “said Anthony Perera, Chief Growth Officer for Air Pros USA. “Air Pros USA has always been a proud supporter of Veterans and servicemembers in need. Projects like this help not only uplift these families, but also their communities.”
A second donation was given to a Pembroke Pines family nominated by His House Children’s Home. Foster parents Pedro and Carolina have two biological children, one with special needs, as well as three adoptive children. The loving couple actively helps encourage and motivate future foster parents by serving as role models.
Their old A/C Unit continuously broke down, resulting in costly repairs. With the new A/C System, they can have the comfort in knowing that their children can sleep in a climate-controlled environment and focus on their amazing work as foster
parents.
The third recipient as part of this initiative was a local North Miami Beach mom, Jackie Fredrick. She was nominated for a new A/C unit in partnership with the North Miami Beach Police Athletic League (NMB-PAL).
Fredrick has owned her home since 2011. The 42-year-old mother of two suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia, Heart Disease and has had brain surgery. Her need to have an updated unit that circulates clean air was urgent.
In addition to raising her 15-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter, Fredrick also supports and cares for her 70-yearold mother. Both of her children participate in the NMB-PAL where she diligently ensures they are in attendance and participates in every program offered.
“It is a true blessing for her to receive a new unit for her home,” says Lynda Roberts, Executive Director of NMB-PAL. “A new unit that will enhance the clean air flow throughout and make things a lot easier for her.”
“We are elated to be partnering with Air
Pros for the third year in a row as we continue to support members of our South Florida Community,” said Miami Dolphins Senior Director Of Community Relations & Youth Programs RaShauna Hamilton. “Thanks to our Football UNITES™ Community Partners, Wounded Warrior Project, His House Children’s Home and the NMB-PAL, we were able to identify and provide families in need with a new Air Conditioning unit to keep them cool through the Florida heat.”
