Senior Expo draws crowds to Mardi Gras
By Marylynne Newmark The second floor of Mardi Gras was packed on Wednesday January 25 until about 1 PM with seniors eager to meet representatives of medical and health groups who could give them insight to new products and services. They were not disappointed. Community groups, insurance and veterans representatives, nursing services, financial services, manufacturers and high tech screening companies were there to provide onsite advice. This Senior Expo was sponsored by Caren Berman and Drew Axelrod of Expo Media, Inc., a company that seems to have developed a formula for attracting exhibitors and visitors. The pair started six years ago with two health fairs, one in Dade and the other in Broward. This year, they are busy producing 10. However, these shows are not limited to Health Fairs. They are also sponsoring travel and financial planning expos. Upcoming venues include the Inverarry Convention Center in Lauderhill, another at the Mardi Gras in Hallandale Beach, and then at the South County Civic Center in Delray. “This show had a great turnout,” said Anthony Ballinger of National Healthcare Technologies. “The booth layout was excellent, with every exhibitor having good visibility,” he added. “With that kind of exposure, visitors have the advantage of getting around to everyone, and they were lined up at our table, waiting to learn more about our product, Pharmogenesis.” Wayne Bullard of Esther’s Home Health agreed. “We were prepared to simply provide information and hand out our calendar/ health diaries, but folks began asking about screenings for blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol levels.
