7th Annual City of Hollywood Cardboard Boat Race Saturday HOLLYWOOD - Sailors, start your paddles, gather your mates and grab your duct tape to construct a sloop made entirely of cardboard! The 7th Annual Cardboard Boat Race sets sail on Hollywood’s North Lake on Saturday, October 17, at the Hollywood Marina, 700 Polk Street. Enthusiastic land lovers will gather to cheer as the cardboard boat crews paddle in head-to-head competition for the coveted trophies in categories such as: “People’s Choice,” “Last Boat Sailing,” “Fastest Vessel,” “Most Creative Design” and “Most Spectacular Sinking.” There will be marine-themed children’s activities by Funky Fish, an exuberant performance from the Mocoko Jumbie Junkanoo Band and delicious food and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase from Capone’s Flicker Lite. Daniel Rosemond named as Hallandale Beach City Manager to succeed Renee C. Miller Hallandale Beach City Commissioners named Deputy City Manager Daniel Rosemond as the new City Manager, effective January 1, 2016. Mr. Rosemond will replace outgoing City Manager Renee C. Miller, who resigned effective December 31, 2015. Mrs. Miller has been the City Manager since June 2012. Mr. Rosemond joined the City in February 2013 as Deputy City Manager and Director of the (then) troubled Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA). Mr. Rosemond holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and is a Credentialed Manager, a certification provided by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). Since joining the City, Mr. Rosemond worked with Mrs. Miller to restore credibility to the HBCRA, which had been under a 2012 investigation by the Office of the Inspector General for perceived financial improprieties and lack of accountability. Mr. Rosemond corrected the deficiencies and instituted sound management procedures to ensure financial transparency and accountability. The HBCRA is now a model for other CRA’s within Broward County and the State of Florida. In addition to the noteworthy turnaround of the CRA’s internal operations, Mr. Rosemond has been involved in a number of large scale projects and initiatives within the City.
