Hallandale Beach 2020 By Michael Rideman
The wise seasoned regulars sit leisurely at the Sage restaurant every Saturday morning for their breakfast, choosing from a rich selection of bagels, pastries,
and smoked fish, smoking their cigars, cigarettes and drinking coffee at the same table in the outside courtyard eating area. I see them whenever I eat breakfast there on Saturdays.
One can only imagine what they are talking about. Let alone who they are, what worldly experiences and changes they have pioneered and lived through. Are they talking about how
Hallandale Beach was as radiant and vibrant in the 1980’s and 1990’s as it is today? I see them smiling and looking across the table at the families eating in the restaurants and
shopping in the courtyard shops. It looks like they might even be laughing and marveling in how youthful and vibrant Hallandale Hallandale Beach, Page 7A
Reframing Your New Year’s Resolutions Can Help You Keep Them By Tongelia Milton
After the busy holidays filled with celebrations and tables of delicious treats, it’s not surprising that most people make resolutions to exercise more and lose weight in the New Year. As the months go on though, many of us find our resolutions thrown out along with the holiday decorations. Starting the New Year by making major changes like strict diets and declarations that you’ll hit the gym seven days a week doesn’t exactly set you up for success. But by reframing your resolutions and breaking them down into smaller, easier-toachieve goals, you’ll be better able to sustain them. “The New Year is a chance to start fresh and say goodbye to any goals you didn’t meet last year,” said Sheryl A. Woods, CEO & President, YMCA of South Florida. “The Y recommends taking resolutions one

You can reframe that
broad resolution into multiple, more manageable and measurable goals. If you aren’t active at all right now, try to incorporate activity into your routine three days a week, before telling yourself that you’ll work out every

in 2020, but that can be more manageable if you replace it with something positive like volunteering or setting special time aside for family. Focus on New Year’s, Page 4B
Excuses, Excuses: 5 Ways To Stop Making Them In The New Decade
Everyone makes excuses on occasion. Late for work? “The traffic was killer.” Passed over for a promotion? “It’s office politics.” But to be successful – in a
career or in life in general – people need to put aside their reliance on excuses and instead strive for an excuse-free life, says John Collopy, a successful businessman and author of the

goals,” Collopy says. “Just the opposite, in fact. Excuses hold us back. They make us stagnate.” Collopy knows something about how seductive excuses
can be – and also about making the most of opportunities life sends your way. He overcame a troubled youth and an addiction to alcohol on the way to achieving extraordinary success as a real estate broker. Now he is dedicated to helping others take the right steps to achieve their dreams, a theme he explores in his book. “There are plenty of things in life you can’t control,” Collopy says. “Where you’re born. The family you’re born into. The opportunities you’re given.” Ultimately, though, as your life unfolds, how you handle each situation you face remains up to you. “I’ve had plenty of failures,” Collopy says. “I’ve had business failures, relationship failures, Excuses, Page 6A
