Florida Is Putting Seniors First Efforts Are Made To Provide COVID-19 Vaccine To Residents By David Volz

More South Florida residents are starting to get COVID-19 vaccines. The goal is to vaccinate people age 65 and over and eventually frontline health professionals. Now people must make an appointment to get a vaccination. The website where people go to sign up for the vaccine has crashed and many people have struggled to get an appointment and faced very long lines. The State of Florida has been unable to distribute all of its vaccines. But improvements are

being made and more people are getting the vaccinations. Broward Commissioner Dale Holness said, “Vaccines depend on the Department of Health. They are wrapping up to provide locations. They are providing vaccines at churches at Mount Herman and Mount Olive Baptist Church. From what I am seeing, the hospitals are offering new vaccines. We see a tremendous amount of vaccines being brought into Broward and we are seeing more distribution sites.

At vaccination sites across the state, seniors formed long lines - some camping out overnight with lawn chairs and blankets - hoping to gain immunity to fight the virus. We are seeing vaccines being distributed at parks, community centers and churches,” said Holness. Even though, the end of the

pandemic is starting to come into view, Holness wants everyone to remain cautious about COVID-19. “We still have to safeguard and wear masks and

socially distance. The vaccines we are getting will be important to ending the pandemic, but we Seniors First, Page 7A
