Keestrack Has Huge Success At ConExpo “We are hugely satisfied with the result of ConexpoCON/AG,” comments Michael Brookshaw, Global Distributor Manager at Keestrack, the international specialist for mobile crushing and screening. “During the week in Las Vegas we had large and steady attendance and enjoyed the wide international spread and high calibre of our visitors.” In its booth presentation Keestrack focussed on its tracked mobile crushing technologies, displaying two highly flexible impact crushers and the new fullhybrid cone crusher Keestrack H4e. High market recognition Keestrack’s fifth Conexpo participation coincides with very successful business trends for the Belgium-based familyowned company group. Previous years of substantial structural growth are reflected by increasing
revenues, totalling close to 90 million US-dollars in 2016. At present, record intakes for 1st quarter confirm that sales in 2017/2018 will exceed 100 million US-dollars and consolidate Keestrack’s position under the leading international suppliers of mobile processing technologies. Keestrack’s presence at this year’s Conexpo will immediately contribute to a good share of this growth: “We’re still working through our leads from the show, but agreed contracts for single units or whole lines will certainly sum up to a more than satisfying multi-million dollar result“, says Michael Brookshaw. “We are continuously working on improving our regional representation on all global markets. At Conexpo we had interesting contacts to potential new distributors, who qualify
with their technical expertise and service commitment to represent our colours in their markets.” Two new dealers are now on board for the U.S. Keestrack sales and service network. “We still had some open dealer opportunities in the Midwest and West Coast areas, but now we can assure full support also for those regions”, comments Peter McGeary, Sales Manager Keestrack America. “Throughout the show we received positive feedback for our new headquarters in Krum/ Texas, now supporting all sales, service and aftersales activities for U.S.A. and Canada. Together with their unrivalled mobility, versatile productivity and uncompromising quality finish this reliable support makes our plants now the first choice for customers in the quarrying, mining, recycling and aggregates
industries,” adds Peter McGeary. “We enjoyed huge interest of customers from all over Central and South America,” comments Area Sales Manager Paul Fox a far better attendance from these regions compared to the last show. A newly appointed distributor for Ecuador and agreed sales of single units and integrated production lines confirm the positive result. “Especially quarrying and aggregates experts recognize the fundamental advantages of our diesel-electric hybrid and full-hybrid plants which ensure economical and reliable operation. For minor or medium-sized quarry companies with affiliated asphalt/concrete production our high-output mobile plants form a true alternative to static installations with their long approval process and heavy investments.” Innovation makes the difference This year Keestrack showcased machines fully focussed on the company’s tracked mobile crusher lines. The displayed impact crushers R3 and R5 are light but robust machines and provide as most versatile
and productive plants ideal solutions for minor to medium-sized aggregate producers or recycling contractors. Both models were displayed in dieselhydraulic configurations, but are also available in diesel-electric drive versions to minimize fuel and maintenance costs. Like the larger 60-tonnes model Keestrack R6, both plants can be equipped with secondary screen modules, which boost contractors’ profits by producing HQ end fractions with a single unit. A real show-stopper was the new track mobile cone crusher Keestrack H4e: Developed in close co-operation with a renowned cone specialist, the plant features an innovative compact frame design combining a highly mobile low weight concept with efficient multistage processing for best end product quality (active pre-screening, 3-deck secondary screen module, etc.). The H4e features Keestrack’s revolutionary “full-hybrid” diesel-electric drive concept: Supplied by a 346 kW/330 KVA diesel/ generator module, a 130 kW electro motor drives
Page 3 the crusher. A separate electric driven hydro pump supplies all hydraulic components, such as tracks, hydraulic cylinders and the secondary screen. According to Keestrack this configuration allows energy cost savings of around 50% in diesel-electric mode. Supplied externally via gen set or mains those savings even extends to 80% with the on-board diesel engine remaining off. As a stand-alone unit or within a production line the Keestrack H4e perfectly meets all requirements for efficient secondary or tertiary crushing. The whole plant is monitored by a new control unit, fully integrating the hydraulic crusher settings control and monitoring system into the proven environment of Keestrack’s Relytec system. Following the enthusiastic market reaction on the 200-tph-model H4e Keestrack announces now the introduction of three larger cone crusher models with transport weights up to 70 tonnes and perfectly adapted to primary and secondary application in quarrying and mining. b Source: Keestrack

New On-Board Oil Change Systems FLO Components Ltd. will be displaying QuickFit On-board Oil Change Systems at the upcoming NHES show on April 6-7. In 2016, FLO announced its new partnership with RPM Industries LLC to sell and install their complete product line of centralized fleet fluid maintenance systems. With the RPM Industries product line, FLO Components Ltd. has a complete range of engine pre-lubrication and fluid evacuation technologies that automate routine maintenance of heavy equipment to save owners and dealers time and money. “Keeping your fleet in peak operating condition can be difficult and time consuming”, said Mike Deckert, Vice-President of FLO Components. “Machines sit idle for hours during ‘simple’ oil changes. Technicians risk injury removing hot oil filters and climbing under or around the ma-
April 2017 waste container; 3) Refill the engine via its new filters and 4) Timestamp the service to automatically document the maintenance event.” “FLO Components has been helping customers protect their equipment and improve productivity with automatic greasing systems for 40 years. The RPM Industries line of centralized fleet fluid maintenance systems further enhances your ability to protect your equipment and improve productivity, but also helps you protect your employees and the environment”, added Deckert. “It makes fluid maintenance cleaner, safer and faster for all makes and models. Because the process is repeatable, it’s easier for you to schedule and plan routine PM services. Maintenance becomes easier, your productivity goes up and the risk of spills and contamination is virtually eliminated.” FLO will be featuring the QuickFit System, in Booth #3849, with demos and system experts on hand to answer questions. b
chines. Then you also have the problem of oil spills causing environmental contamination. The QuickFit Onboard Oil Change system offers a simple solution for all of that.” According to FLO’s Marketing Specialist, Gabriel Lopez; “The patented QuickFit system is a quick and simple way to change oil, transmission and hydraulic fluids. The QuickFit system allows you to service most machines in less than 30 minutes, from a single ground-level, connection. You save time, without risking unnecessary injury or environmental fines.” “The QuickFit system incorporates the PERTTM process to: 1) Purge the filters with compressed air so that old filters can be removed and clean filters can be installed cleanly and safely with no spills or burns; 2) Evacuate the sump directly to the final Source: FLO Components

The high capacity jaw is fed by a vibrating grizzly feeder with variable speed control and a large grizzly area to maximise removal of fine material to extend the wear life of jaw plates within the crusher chamber. The bypass chute is also fitted with wear-resistant liners as standard, and incorporates an adjustable fiveposition deflector plate to divert material to either the product or side conveyors. The machine control system incorporates a state of the art, modern interface with intuitive graphics and high resolution display for ease of operation. This is further enhanced with the automatic start/stop functionality, excellent diagnostic capability and straightforward machine adjustments. The speed
of jaw crusher on the Premiertrak 600 can be varied to suit the application and therefore optimize performance. In addition to this, the hydraulic system has been designed and configured to increase uptime and fuel efficiency. The Premiertrak 600E electric variant is equipped with an over-size genset sufficient to run another plant (it successfully powers the large Powerscreen Warrior 1400XE heavy duty scalping screen) and additionally can be powered from a mains source which substantially decreases the running costs and environmental impact. With convenience and safety in mind, the Premiertrak 600 can be fully set up from ground level thanks to its hydraulic folding and locking hopper system. It can be adjusted to maximise productivity in any application and can

Berg Pipe Yard Steps Up To Sennebogen 870 M That’s not a baton Chris Etheridge is twirling! It’s an 80 ft. (24.4 m) length of steel pipe, weighing in at 20,000 lb. (9,072 kg) which he’s spinning deftly into place to load onto a waiting truck. Etheridge is plying his trade, operating a new purpose-built Sennebogen 870 M pipe-handler, in the Berg Spiral Pipe storage yard in Mobile, AL. The mill here produces up to 220,000 tons per year. Etheridge’s job, as part of the Berg logistics team, is to get it all loaded and on the way out to America’s oil and gas projects quickly and, above all, safely.
Versatility in the yard The mill’s Planning & Logistics Manager, Bob Ward, is confident in Etheridge and his equipment. “Our company has a lot of good experience with Sennebogen machines at our facility in Mobile, AL, our sister operations in Panama City, FL and our home base in Germany. We have a smaller machine, a Sennebogen 850, operating here since 2010. But for handling our larger pipe, up to 48” (1,219 mm) diameter, we needed a machine with more capacity.” The 870 M has now logged more than 4,500 hours in the Berg yard. Ward has deployed a fleet
of loaders to transport and stage the rows of pipe in the yard. Etheridge and his 870 stack the pipe for storage, and also load shipments onto trucks for delivery. “It’s a very versatile machine,” Ward notes. “We have 50 acres of storage here. With its wheeled undercarriage, the 870 has good speed for moving through the yard and picking the pipe sizes we ship” Purpose-built for pipe The operator is seated in a hydraulically elevating cab that can rise more than 20 ft. (6.1 m) to offer a clear view of the stack, the truck it’s loading and ground support personnel. Fitted to the boom is a heavy-lift
vacuum system, powered electrically from the 870’s on-board generator. Upsizing from an 850 to an 870 machine gives Ward a much-needed capability in the yard. “Chris has to pick up the pipe from the end, not from the center” says Brian Kinsey,

Shipping Supervisor. “To balance the load, he has to reach 40 ft. (12.2 m) into the stack, where the vacuum lifter can grab the middle of the pipe. We needed the 870 to be able to lift that much weight, at that long reach.” Safe, gentle pipe handling According to Etheridge, the 870 helps him keep loading and stacking operations safely as well as efficiently. “The hydraulics on this unit are very smooth, so it’s safer and more precise while it’s lifting, turning and swinging the pipe.” Accurate placement of the vacuum attachment is essential to ensure a sure grip that will hold throughout the loading cycle. With the power and accuracy of the 870, Etheridge will complete a four-piece load of large diameter pipe, plus the wooden stays that stabilize it on the truck deck, in as little as six or seven minutes. Etheridge also appreciates Sennebogen’s elevating cab. “You can raise or lower the cab to just the right height for the different layers of pipe,” he says. Precision and gentle handling are especially important to protect the coatings on the pipe which

will preserve it from environmental factors after it’s buried. Along with the standard rear-view camera, the 870 is also equipped with a side view camera standard on Sennebogen machines - that further enhance the operator’s view of his work area. Etheridge often works long shifts, up to 12 hours, to keep pace with shipping schedules, so he’s thankful for the cab’s ergonomic design and climate controls. Performance plus uptime Combining reach, load capacity, mobility and smooth handling, the 870 M has delivered the capability that Ward was looking for. After two years of operation, the 870 has shown it can do the job reliably, too. “Its design allows for good hydraulic flow and speed,” he says, “so you can open the full hydraulic load without killing the engine. Mechanically, the only part we’ve had to replace is the horn! Our dealer, Tractor & Equipment Company takes care of all of its servicing and they’ve been very good to work with - very responsive to our needs and our scheduling.” b Source: Sennebogen

Supply Post Celebrates 45 Years Of Service By Jeff Watson
B
ack in the early ’70s, long before the internet, long before tradeshows and when equipment auctioneers were in their early days, my grandfather Ken Kenward saw the need in the BC marketplace for a printed publication that showcased the latest news from the heavy industries of the day, along with the most current equipment for sale. In those days, it was mostly mining equipment on display. But by the later ’70s, forestry and construction equipment became the focus. This led the publication into aggregates, trucking, and much more. As the years went on, we widened our focus to Alberta and the rest of Western Canada as well. In 2008, the thought of an Eastern edition came alive, making us a very unique organization in the market. As of now, we’re able to offer both national and regional programs for advertisers, and offer a direct mail list of over 23,000 monthly readers along with over 9,000 newsstand copies to accompany them. The original days had my grandfather literally driving from his home in Vancouver, on a monthly basis, out through the Okanagan cities of Penticton, Kelowna, Kamloops,
and up to Prince George to see advertisers. He would collect up handwritten copies of equipment listings, take photos of prominent machines, and drive back to the big city to process the notes and images (hoping they would come out nicely) and turn those notes into advertisements. These editions were printed out on a large webstyle press and delivered to our readers around three weeks later. Perhaps the world didn’t move quite so quickly back then (which isn’t a bad thing!!). Luckily these days though, we have digital photography, 32" graphic design monitors and a world-leading press that prints our publications within hours of delivery of the ad files. Canada Post moves our monthly copies to readers quickly and efficiently. We are still family owned and operated. My wife Debra and I are in the office every day with our ‘office family’ putting out our two monthly publications (Eastern and Western Canada) and helping our advertisers navigate the online marketing world as well. Our staff are passionate about the industries we serve, and are always helping us find new ways to
help match up buyers and sellers of equipment and trucks. We thank them for their continued efforts, and for continuing our reputation of the type of personal service that only a family owned organization can truly provide. While recognizing the contributions of the earlier generations of our family, we thank our loyal advertisers for putting their faith in us to deliver them results for the last 45 years. So many of our long time advertisers are still with us some 30-40+ years later. Many of them have grown up with us (and hopefully a bit BECAUSE of us!) and we greatly appreciate you all. Lastly, to our loyal readers who continue to renew their subscriptions, and search our website for the finest equipment and truck inventories that Canada has to offer…we thank you too. We’ve received many, many letters over the years thanking us for our service and for being a publication you look forward to receiving each month. This is what drives us forward, and what keeps us going. All the best for another 45 years,
— Jeff and Debra Watson

Explosion Proof C Rails & Light Crane Systems J D Neuhaus is introducing a range of C rail and light crane systems for operation with the company’s established and successful mini air hoist range. Both the C rail/suspension tracks and the light crane systems are rated for use in explosion and hazardous dust-laden areas up to ATEX Zone 2, 22. Featuring high quality standard elements, the modular C rail systems/ suspension tracks make for simple assembly and smooth movement of loads in accordance with individual customer requirements. The units, which are ideal for flexible material transport applications, are purpose-engineered to offer high durability when deployed in challenging environmental conditions. Similarly, the light crane systems offer easy adaptation to load and operating conditions. Available in four standard profile sizes, design modularity again provides users with the opportunity for light and easy assembly, the result of which is smooth movement of the reinforced crane bridge and optimal space utilization at low headroom conditions. Air delivery is facilitated via hose trolleys in the crane rail. To help maximize system life, users can pick from a range of surface protections for the crane rail and trolleys, including coated, zinc-plated or chromated, while stainless steel is available as an option for lighter capacities of 100 and 200kg. Both the light cranes and C rail/suspension tracks give provision for straightforward system extension to accommodate changing requirements over a working life. The crane track length is fully selectable in accordance with customer requirements, while the bridge length can be specified up to a maximum of 6000mm as standard, with larger sizes available upon request. Track width is dependent upon the bridge length, but typically, a system with a carrying capacity of 125kg would dictate a maximum track width

Resilience and reliability are the key product differentiators, thanks largely to their explosive protection rating which makes them ideal for use even in the most challenging of operating environments. Extreme applications include oil and gas exploration in arctic temperatures as low as ‑45°C, along with underwater tasks such as ship hull repairs, and plenty of others in demanding sectors like mining, the chemical industry, heavy plant construction and many areas of logistics. The wide portfolio of services provided by J D Neuhaus includes equipment assembly, inspection, maintenance and general overhaul, along with the supply of customer training courses. Over 80% of production from the Witten plant is exported, which is why the company has long-established subsidiary companies in France, Great Britain, Singapore and the USA, all of which have helped create a tight-knit global network in collaboration with international partners. b
of 4500mm. This rises to 5000mm for carrying capacities of 250, 500 and 980kg. The carrying capacities are of course determined by the choice of pneumatic hoist utilized. Here, JDN offers its mini 125, mini 250, mini 500 and mini 1000 models, which are not only offer lubefree operation for use in hazardous areas, but a price-competitive alternative in comparison with other types of powered hoist. Principal advantages of JDN mini air hoists include minimal components for ease of maintenance, a wear-resistant motor braking system and suitability for horizontal pulling (in addition to conventional lifting and lowering). Where fitted with an extremely sensitive lever control featuring an emergency shut-off valve, lifting heights of up to 8m can be specified. With over 200 employees across the group, J D Neuhaus GmbH & Co. manufactures pneumatically and hydraulically-operated hoists and crane systems up to 115 tonne capacity from its state-of-the-art facility in Witten, Germany. Do You Want Ice With That? Maintaining an ice road on Canada’s Knipple Glacier is the job of First Nations indigenous tribe company Tsetsaut Ventures. ‘Community’ is a word that Tsetsaut Nations nomadic tribe descendant, Chief Darlene Simpson considers to be the core of her business. No project has proven too ambitious for the woman who is determined to transform the remote North Western region of British Columbia into a prospering powerhouse, bringing job opportunities to its residents. In many ways, her latest venture – the maintenance of an 11km (6.8mi) ‘ice highway’ that spans across the colossal Knipple Glacier – demonstrates her ambition. The ice highway allows for the transportation of supplies and materials to a remote underground gold mine, located in the
Golden Triangle – a moniker given due to the abundance of high-grade gold materials. Pioneering safe and reliable road access and timely transportation of materials is the job of Tsetsaut Ventures, a contracting company, founded by Chief Simpson and husband George Simpson. The year-round job involves the grading and grooming of the access road, as well as filling crevasses. Tsetsaut also provides the mine with machines, peripheral personnel and manages work camps. Glacial proportions Since its establishment in 2008, the company has built a solid reputation in British Columbia as a major contractor, working on a number of high profile mining projects and supplying hundreds of jobs for the local community.
The company has become the largest employer – of both Aboriginal and nonAboriginal people – in the region, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the province. Tsetsaut employs 270 people, 60 percent of whom are Aboriginal. “Our mission is to provide employment and continued services as development increases in the Golden Triangle,” says Chief Simpson. But working on ice is a slippery business. With up to 30m (98.4ft) of snow per year, the glacier is continually moving, freezing and thawing. Unlike soil, ice is at the mercy of Mother Nature, making it far more difficult to work with. As the day warms up, the glacier erodes, causing creeks to form in the center of the access road, which expand into small

rivers that must be diverted into drainage ditches. These need daily maintenance and the operator must fill and seal cracks while being careful not to remove too much ice. Operators are modern-day pioneers and must be constantly observant and on the lookout for potential danger. Such are the high demands of the project that Tsetsaut decided to invest in suitably durable machines. The company uses a fleet of Volvo equipment, including three excavators, five wheel loaders and nine articulated haulers. The equipment is used to load and unload freight, haul material over the glacier, load and unload earth for the construction of the mine and remove snow from the access road and mine. These machines have been supplied by respected Volvo CE dealer Great West Equipment of Terrace, British Columbia. “Having reliable equipment that can withstand the weather is crucial,” says Chief Simpson. Peak performance Volvo crawler excavators (EC220E and EC350E) are used year-round and in all conditions to preserve the glacier highway and keep the road open. Equipped with protected components and a robust undercarriage, the excavators are ideal for working in tough terrain and extreme conditions. Some of the glacier maintenance falls on the shoulders of Richard Pattison, excavator operator. “Working with glacier ice is a once-in-alifetime opportunity,” he says.
Great West Equipment of Terrace, working with Tsetsaut Ventures, modified several articulated haulers, including an A40G, by removing the haul body and fitting it with a deck. The reason, says George Simpson is simple: “Modified trucks can withstand the rugged environment and terrain.” William Joe (pictured) is one of a team of 10 articulated hauler operators, who use six A30Fs, one A35F and two A40G Full Suspension articulated haulers to make sure the mine is supplied seven days a week. The haulers load up at night and drive in convoy over the glacier to the mine in the morning. They reload at the mine and then make the return trip. The distance across the ice from load to unload is 10km (6.2mi) and a oneway run takes an hour. Operators make an average of three or four trips per working day. Driving an average of 80km (49.7mi) every day, the articulated haulers are
designed to keep the operators comfortable and safe – both of which are key strengths of Volvo machines, says Chief Simpson. The industry leading Volvo Cab provides superior levels of comfort, control, ease of operation and safety, helping operators to maintain productivity all day, every day. And with the ability to climb steep gradients, the articulated haulers enable Tsetsaut Ventures to make the otherwise perilous journey safely across the glacier. Chief Simpson acknowledges the positive impact the machines have on the company and community. “Volvo machines have been the most reliable and cost-effective choice for our company,” she says, adding the benefits of mineral exploration and mining in the Golden Triangle. “Individuals in our community want an opportunity to work. My vision of the future is more contracting opportunities, jobs and a healthier community.” b Source: Volvo

Next-Gen Camso SKS 532 Tires Keep Skid Steers Rolling A large construction company in Massachusetts recently chose to fit its skid steer fleet with the new Camso SKS 532 tires for a balance between traction and service life. After putting the SKS 532 to the test, the J. Masterson Construction Corporation quickly saw its value. “This tire really gives us a good middle
ground for traction, performance and service life as well as reduced cost per hour benefits,” says Kevin McGuire, Masterson Construction’s Fleet Manager. With their large fleet of equipment doing all different jobs, J. Masterson Construction was having a hard time finding a tire that would give them the

application “At Camso, everything we do is designed to provide our customers with their lowest operating cost solution. By providing customers with the widest range of skid steer tires on the market, we give them the ability to find the best tire to suit their particular application,” says Dembe. McGuire appreciates the choice. “Between the SKS 532s and some of the other options Camso has for us, it gives us a full toolbox to pick from. It allows us to put the right tires on the right machine for the right job,” he says. b
“Camso is continually improving and expanding on its industry-leading selection of skid steer tires and tracks,” says Mike Dembe, Product Management Director, North America and Latin America – Construction. “We’ve taken durability to a new level with the Camso SKS 532. It surpasses its predecessor, the Solideal Xtra Wall, with 30 percent longer life.” “In a large fleet like ours with over 300 machines, 30 percent longer life can make a huge difference in operating costs,” says McGuire. terRents rental operation, a lot of the skid steer tires come back off rent with sidewall damage. Through research, Camso discovered that impact to the sidewall is actually the leading cause of premature failure in skid steer tires. To protect against sidewall damage, the SKS 532 incorporates Camso’s impact guard sidewall design that deflects objects and debris away from the tire. Camso introduced the next-generation, bias-ply SKS 532 in October to provide the lowest operating cost solution for general duty applications on soft soil surfaces.

performance and quality they need for general duty jobs. On any given day, the company is operating between 20 and 40 skid steers on different surface conditions. And this is above and beyond the skid steers the company owns through its equipment rental division, MasterRents. Cost savings is not about buying the lowest-priced tire Durability is the key factor affecting McGuire’s choice in tires. Buying the lowest-priced tire often means that staff must spend more time doing tire repairs and putting on replacements while dealing with customer complaints. If any one of the skid steers is down due to a flat or damaged tire, it could cost Masterson Construction thousands of dollars. When it comes to selecting tires, McGuire says durability is more important than price. “Losing one tire on one machine for a day could cost more than a whole set of tires,” he says. Understanding McGuire’s need for durability, Masterson Construction’s tire dealer recommended the Camso SKS 532. Camso designed the SKS 532 for optimal durability and traction with extra-deep directional tread and curved tread lugs. Its unique stepped tread pattern provides excellent mud clean out for better off-road traction and comes with new void guard tread protection to reinforce and protect the carcass from punctures and flats. McGuire decided to try them out. He asked his operators to test the tires in the company’s materials area. The skid steer operators ran the SKS 532 tires on everything from mud, dirt and rocks, to steel debris and concrete while lifting heavy loads. Camso SKS 532 passed every test. The SKS 532 proved to be a winning solution for McGuire. “These tires have a better rubber compound than their previous generation of Solideal Xtra Wall as well as a good tread design. They give us the traction that we need without sacrificing service life,” he says. He also likes the tough look of the SKS 532 sidewalls. “It gives us confidence for cut resistance. It’s like an insurance policy,” he says. McGuire noted that in their Mas-

Kenworth T880S Enters Production The Kenworth T880S has been a much-anticipated option for mixer body builders and their customers needing to meet the federal bridge formula. And, with T880S production commencing this week, order boards are filling up. McNeilus Manufacturing, a division of Oshkosh; and Con-Tech Manufacturing are the first customers receiving T880S chassis during this first week of production. The Kenworth T880S features a set-forward front axle, which makes it the go-to configuration for mixer customers needing to comply with federal bridge formulas. “We’re glad production is rolling, and the response has been great,” said Tom Harris, who serves as McNeilus vice president of concrete mixers. “A large percentage of our orders are for the set-forward configuration.” Kenworth displayed seven T880 trucks, five of which were T880S models,
at the recent CONEXPOCON/AGG show in Las Vegas. On display in the Kenworth booth (S-62939) was a McNeilus T880S with an 11-yard BridgeMaster(R) body destined for Ozinga Ready-Mix based in Chicago, Illinois. According to Harris, the Kenworth T880S is being spec’d in a four-axle configuration with an overall length under 40 feet. “And we’re recommending the T880S be spec’d with the PACCAR MX-11 engine, which saves our customers significant weight (400 pounds over a 13-liter engine) while supplying enough power to get the job done.” Harris said Kenworth is a preferred supplier to McNeilus and the company has always done a great job of building its trucks with the mixer market in mind. “Our customers appreciate the little things that Kenworth does to make a great mixer truck,” he said. “The cowl-mount-
ed mirrors are an example. A driver will typically have the door open when at a job site, but they’ll also use the mirrors and that can only be done if it’s cowl-mounted.” A big fan of the T880, Harris said the bigger windshield and lines of sight are a welcome addition, “along with the ergonomics and the quietness of the cab,” he added. “The T880 is just a great truck for our market.” Also on-display in Kenworth’s booth is a
T880S with Con-Tech BridgeKing(R) 11-yard body, which will go to Eagle Redi-Mix based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after the show. Response in the market to Kenworth’s T880 and T880S has been “tremendous,” said Dan Welsh, president of ConTech Manufacturing. “The larger cab, visibility, dash layout and modern look have really caught the attention of our customers,” he explained. “They love it. We’re now seeing the pendulum swing towards
Page 19
orders for the set-forward configuration, and we expect about 80 percent of our Kenworth build will be for the T880S model.” According to Welsh, the quality of Kenworth and the Con-Tech body is a great match. “Quality all the way around,” he said. “That keeps our customers productive on the job site, and keeps them coming back for more of our mixers as they grow their business.” The T880S is available with a set-forward front
axle ranging from 14,600 pounds to 22,800 pounds and is available with a 114-inch BBC and best-inclass 28-inch bumper setting as well as 29.5-inch and 31.5-inch bumper settings as options for dump truck, crane, or other construction applications. The bumper setting is especially important in complying with federal bridge formula where the chassis is required to stay under 40 feet in length. b Source: Kenworth

ASV Introduces New VT-70 Vertical Lift Compact Track Loader ASV LLC, an industryleading manufacturer of all-purpose and all-season compact track loaders and skidsteers, introduces the company’s first mid-frame, vertical lift compact track loader, the Posi-Track VT70. The machine features a vertical lift loader linkage for applications requiring extended reach and level loads, such as loading pallets and handling hay bales. The VT-70 features best-in-class rated operating capacity, cooling systems and hydraulic efficiency. The compact track loader excels at lift, carry and load tasks as well as heavy digging in industries such as agriculture, construction and excavation. “Our mission is to offer our customers the best, highest-performing machines for all of their jobs,” said Jim DiBiagio, ASV general manager. “That’s why we’re offering the vertical-lift VT-70 in addition to our existing, full range of radial lift machines. The
new compact track loader delivers all of the productivity, efficiency and power our customers have come to expect from ASV. It’s how we continue to reach our goal of maximum performance with no compromises.” ASV builds the VT-70 from the ground up. The innovative undercarriage features ASV’s patented Posi-Track rubber track suspension. The single-level suspension is made up of two independent torsion axles per undercarriage, allowing for a smooth ride over every type of terrain and speeds as fast as 11 mph. The VT-70 also includes ride control that dampens the load in the bucket to limit material loss and improve operator comfort. In addition, the multiple wheel contact points, central drive lug and outside guide lug virtually eliminate track derailment and facilitate maximum performance on steep slopes. The VT-70 comes
standard with 15-inchwide tracks, resulting in a ground pressure of only 4.6 psi. Those features, combined with the VT70’s 13 inches of ground clearance, allow the unit to work in more places, in a wider range of conditions and more comfortably than competitive machines. ASV transformed its undercarriage from its previous closed design — similar to what is used on competitive steel-embedded undercarriages — to an open-rail and drive-sprocket design. The result is longer sprocket and bogie life along with easier and faster undercarriage cleaning. ASV manufactures all rollers with mechanical face seals that don’t require maintenance for the life of the machine. Embedded co-polymer cords give the tracks extra strength. The tracks are produced using a single-cure process, eliminating cure-point weaknesses that can lead to premature breakage. The process allows for a 1,500to 2,000-hour track life — 30 percent more than steelembedded track units. ASV backs the track life with an industry-leading two-year, 1,500-hour track warranty.
The VT-70 features a Kubota 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The 65-horsepower engine produces 146 foot-pounds of torque. Planetary drive motors transfer the torque to the patented internal-drive sprockets. Internal rollers prevent friction loss in the undercarriage, resulting in all power being transferred to the track regardless of drive speed. The VT-70 achieves Tier 4 Final compliance using a diesel oxidation catalyst that features less wiring and requires no regeneration, sensors, diesel exhaust fluid or additional maintenance. The VT-70 boasts industry-leading serviceability, featuring a swing-out door and cooling system along with a three-panel hood arrangement that allows total access to the engine, filters and other daily checkpoints. ASV built the VT-70’s auxiliary hydraulic system to operate efficiently with an optional 28.4 gpm high flow and 3,300 psi. The machine includes large line sizes, hydraulic coolers and directdrive pumps — rather than belt-driven pumps — transferring more flow and pressure directly to the attach-
Page 21 ment and preventing power loss. This design optimizes performance so operators can run attachments more efficiently than higher-horsepower competitive units. As a result of belt-driven pumps and restrictions in their hydraulic systems, many competitive machines lose as much as 30 percent of their horsepower. The VT-70 features a rated operating capacity of 2,328 pounds and a tipping load of 6,650 pounds. It is 66 inches wide and has a 10.5-foot lift height. Standard joystick controls make operation easy and intuitive, while a self-leveling system allows attachments to stay at a set position while lifting. Operators can use the unit with all standard attachments, such as pallet forks, buckets, snow blades and brush cutters. An optional turf track allows for operation on highly manicured surfaces, such as golf course greens, with minimal risk of damage. A 16.5-inch aggressive track is also available for a lower ground pressure of 4.2 psi along with increased traction and flotation. b Source: ASV
