Laurentian Bank of Canada (TSX: LB) (Laurentian Bank or theBank) has entered into an agreement with a syndicate of underwriters (the Underwriters) led by TD Securities Inc. under which the Underwriters have agreed to buy, on a bought deal basis, from Laurentian Bank 2,824,000 Subscription Receipts at a price of $47.85 per Subscription Receipt for total gross proceeds of $135,128,400 (theOffering). Laurentian Bank has also granted the Underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional 423,600 Subscription Receipts at a price of $47.85 per Subscription Receipt at any time up to 30 days after closing of the Offering. If this option is exercised in full, an additional $20,269,260 will be raised pursuant to the Offering and the aggregate gross proceeds of the Offering will be $155,397,660. Proceeds from the Offering will be used to finance
a portion of the purchase price for the acquisition of the Canadian equipment financing and corporate financing activities of CIT Group Inc., a portfolio of approximately $1 billion. The Acquisition is expected to close in the last quarter of the 2016 fiscal year. Each Subscription Receipt will entitle the holder to the right to receive one common share (Common Share) of the Bank, together with an amount per Subscription Receipt equal to the amount that would have been declared as dividends on the Common Shares issuable on the exchange of such Subscription Receipt. The proceeds from the Offering less 50% of the Underwriters’ fee payable on the closing date of the Offering will be held in escrow, pending closing of the Acquisition. If the Acquisition closes on or before December 15, 2016, the escrowed proceeds from the offering of Subscription Receipts will
be released to the Bank and used by the Bank to pay a portion of the purchase price of the Acquisition. If the Acquisition fails to close by December 15, 2016, or the Acquisition is terminated at an earlier time, the gross proceeds and pro rata entitlement to interest earned on the escrowed proceeds thereon will be paid to holders of the Subscription Receipts. The Offering is subject to the receipt of all necessary regulatory and stock exchange approvals. The closing date of the Offering was expected to be on or about July 20, 2016. The Subscription Receipts will be offered for sale to the public in each of the provinces of Canada pursuant to a short form prospectus that was dated on or around July 13, 2016, which will be filed with Canadian securities regulatory authorities in all Canadian provinces. The Bank intends to file a preliminary short form prospectus in respect of the Offering in accordance with applicable Canadian securities regulations. Finally, the runway and taxi areas for the aircraft. “It’s not just the air side we have to worry about. The companies on the field here have about 70 employees in the Business Park that have to keep working. This means that all aspects of the airport need to be functional.” Until two years ago, clearing the snow here required a crew of three operating a street plow, a ½ ton truck and a Ford 8700 tractor fitted with an 8 ft. snow blower. Then Pirie and members of the Parry Sound Airport Commission brought in a new system in time for Christmas. Two new power units came into the fleet, both New Holland TV 145 tractors. One tractor was equipped with a 15 ft. HLA SnowWing and the other with a 10 ft. 6120RH double-auger snow blower from REIST Industries.
Parry Sound Airport Keeps Business Accessible In a small community like Parry Sound, Ontario, the airport is more than just a transportation terminal. As General Manager of Parry Sound Municipal Airport, it’s Neil Pirie’s job to keep the facility “open for business” for a wide range of activities and enterprises. As well as providing aviation service for cottagers and business flyers,
Pirie is also accountable for serving the business park that also shares the site and for maintaining the region’s link to vital emergency services. In winter, it can be a daunting task. Located on the eastern shore of Georgian Bay, Parry Sound is in the path of frequent “lake effect” snow squalls – localized blizzards that
form suddenly over Lake Huron and quickly blanket the area in heavy snow. “It’s not unheard of for us to come in here and have to move a foot and a half of snow,” Pirie reports. “The squalls can park right on top of us for 10 days straight, leaving us with another 8” of snow every day. With the equivalent of 16 acres of roadways and
parking areas that need to be cleared, all we can do is get out and peel off the layers as quickly as we can, sometimes in zero visibility.” Multiple tasks on one site When the snow hits, Pirie’s day will typically start at 5:30 am to clear parking areas and access roads for the Parry Sound Airport Business Park so that those businesses can start work by 7:00. Next, the roads and areas around the aviation shops are cleared by 8:00. Then, they move to the lanes and parking for the terminal itself, including the café and fuel pad.
Special needs on runways “When the committee from the Airport Commission was researching the equipment, we knew we needed a more powerful tractor, at least 130 HP, and we needed a more robust snow blower. When a weather event moves in on you, you have to be able to move through all kinds of ice chunks and heavy snowbanks that have been piled up. In some cases, the windrows have to sit a while and they can freeze over. You’re never done. You have to keep going to try and keep up. We really needed a blower that could get in there and chew through everything and blow it clear away!”
“Cleaning an airport is not like doing a parking lot,” Pirie continues. “You can’t pile the snow just anywhere. In our situation, you can’t have high windrows and snow banks. So, you have to blow the snow off. Some of the aircraft come in with wings just 4 feet off the ground. We have a 75 foot wide, 4000 foot runway. We have to move the snow to the lights first, and then blow it over the lights and out of the way. The REIST blower is the most important piece of equipment at this airport, or we would have nowhere to put the snow.” Done in ½ the time! Pirie is more than satisfied with the performance of the new fleet. Side chutes on the snow blower improve its efficiency when it’s running into the wind and increases its throwing distance. The bi-directional articulated tractors allow the maneuverability to run tight passes, with virtually no turning radius. “It’s phenomenal! The new equipment has reduced, on average, our removal time by at least 50%, and we’re doing it with just two crew.” Pirie reports that timing is everything and he is grateful to the Commission for their support in acquiring the new equipment. “Last winter was exceptional. For the complete season, we received between 18 to 20 feet of snow and during the months of November and December, the average on a monthly basis was over Continued on page 13

Orlaco Introduces EMOS: An Ethernet Camera With Ultra-Low Latency Orlaco is introducing a shock-resistant ethernet camera with a lightningfast 100 Mb/s connection. The images produced by the EMOS are for all intents and purposes displayed in real time. The camera is also suitable for use in extreme conditions, making it perfect for use on trucks, cranes, heavy construction and mining equipment, semi-automatic or remote controlled vehicles, and more. Worldwide, more and more vehicles are being equipped with an ethernet interface. By introducing an ethernet camera, Orlaco is jumping at the chance to cater to this development. Orlaco’s EMOS camera is strikingly small (55 x 60 x 24 mm), light (150 g) and energy efficient (<2W). The EMOS is available with angels of view of 180°, 120°, 90°. Production Of The Detroit DD5 Engine In The Freightliner M2106 To Begin This Fall Daimler Trucks North America has announced that it will begin production of Freightliner M2106 trucks equipped with the DD5 engine beginning in October. The DD5 is the newest Detroit engine to be released and is built off of the same sound principles and design that have led to overwhelming success of its heavy duty platform
which includes the DD13, DD15 and DD16. The DD5 will offer customers a number of benefits over competitive engines. One example is the DD5 best in class scheduled maintenance intervals. Operators in short-haul pick-up and delivery applications will have extended oil and fuel filter change intervals up to 45,000 miles. The engine has undergone
extensive development and testing in preparation for release and boasts impressive durability with an expected B10 life of 400,000 miles. The engine will first be offered in 210 HP0575 lb-ft and 230 HP-660 lb-ft ratings and testing has proven that the DD5 will provide best in class fuel efficiency. In addition, Detroit will provide

Genie Launches Service Technician Training Initiative According to upcoming changes to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA), only a qualified person should inspect and maintain mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. To help meet demand for the next generation of aerial service technicians in the rental industry, Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) is offering free enrollment to the Genie Tech Pro Online Service Training program to community colleges and 500 aspiring aerial lift technicians in North America. Genie Tech Pro classes address the service, maintenance, repairs, diagnostics and troubleshooting of boom lifts, scissor lifts and telehandlers. This initiative is part of the Genie brand’s 50th anniversary activities

Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CCS) is making the job site more productive by standardizing and streamlining con-
trols on all newer crane models – time spent learning new controls is minimized. The solid performance of Manitowoc cranes in challenging weather conditions is helping the construction team stay on its 42-month-long schedule. Two Manitowoc MLC650s are working on

a project to replace the Champlain Bridge, which spans the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Signature on the Saint Lawrence Construction (SSLC) is the engineering consortium assigned to the task. The capacity and reduced ground preparation made possible by the MLC650’s VPC-MAX attachment – as well as the ease of use of its Crane Control System (CCS) – are helping the team stay on schedule. Andre Mylocopos, approaches manager for SSLC, said the company chose the 716 USt MLC650 because of the Variable Position Counterweight’s (VPC) ability to enable high-capacity lifts with minimal adjustments. The crane only needs to be setup once and its counterweight is adjusted automatically based on each lift. The optional VPC-MAX attachment raises the crane’s capacity to 770 USt using fewer components and assembly steps than traditional attachments. “The MLC650 has better chart than other cranes in its class for the work envelope defined on this project,” he said. “We are able to perform most lifts at less than 90 percent capacity, so this gives us a comfortable safety margin. The MLC650s were ready to go upon erection.” The cranes are currently tasked with lifting 220 USt steel girders for the bridge’s east approach. The dual MLC650s will then be used to lift 88 USt precast concrete segments to construct the cablestay bridge pylon, followed by a tandem lift to erect the 440 USt lower cross beam. After the completion of the cross beam, the MLC650s will be used to construct temporary support towers, and to erect 220 USt pier caps and additional girders. CCS and the elements The MLC650 features the CCS system which maintains a standardized operating platform across all of Manitowoc’s newer crane models. Yan Duguay, a crane operator for SSLC, said that the company’s operators found the MLC650 easy to use thanks to the intuitive controls made possible by CCS. “Our operators are enjoying the MLC650’s controls,” he explained. “Compared to other cranes I’ve used, the

computer system in the MLC650 seems easier to operate. That simplicity is crucial on a job site where time and safety are utmost concerns. Since we are only using Manitowoc cranes for the bridge replacement, the uniformity of easy-to-use controls only makes the job site more productive.” As with all Manitowoc cranes, the MLC650 also performs well in low temperatures, making it particularly wellsuited for tough jobs in Canada. “In Canada, we need cranes that can stand up to the elements. Manitowoc cranes perform well in extremely challenging weather conditions, which makes them ideal for the Canadian climate,” Mylocopos explained. “When you combine those factors with intuitive controls, you can see how Manitowoc cranes are helping SSLC maintain uniformity and productivity on the job site. We’re on track to complete the bridge by December of 2018 and we’re counting on the MLC650 and the rest of our Manitowoc
fleet to be a big part of that success.” The MLC650s are not the only Manitowoc cranes aiding SSLC in its bridge building efforts. The construction team’s fleet also includes a 300 USt Manitowoc 2250, four 440 USt Manitowoc 16000s, two 1,433 USt ringer-enabled Manitowoc M250s, seven 150 USt Grove RT9150Es and two 130 USt Grove RT9130E2s. The M250s, each equipped with a M-1200 ringer attachment, will be installed on 30,000 sq. ft barges to lift pier caps and girders on the water. The Grove cranes will perform smaller tasks such as general loading and unloading, support, access, and erecting smaller structures and components. Staying on schedule The Champlain Bridge connects one of North America’s busiest roadways, with more than 50 million cars, buses and trucks crossing its 11,155 ft span each year. The 42-month project to replace the bridge began in June of 2015 and is scheduled for completion in December of 2018. The replacement of the Champlain Bridge is
currently one of the largest projects to expand infrastructure in North America. SSLC was chosen by the Canadian government to carry out the design, construction, financing, operations, maintenance and rehabilitation of the New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project in April of 2015. SSLC consists of Montreal, Quebec-based SNC; Toronto, Ontario-based Dragados Canada; Richmond, British Colombia-based Flatiron Constructors Canada; and L’Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec-based EBC. The initiative is being conducted under a public-private partnership agreement with the government of Canada. SSLC procured the MLC650s from Strongco, a seller and renter of industrial equipment for multiple industries including construction, road building, mining and forestry. Founded more than 40 years ago, the Mississauga, Ontario-based company is the sole distributor of Manitowoc cranes in the region and boasts an extensive network of branches across Canada and the north-eastern U.S. b

The facility manufactures and tests centrifugal compressor products and gas turbines used in oil and gas production, oil and gas transmission, and refining. These are usually small activities which are ideally suited for construction companies specialized on restructuring and refurbishment sites; in many occasions the total removal of obsolete buildings (without historical or artistic value) requires the involvement of firms with means and equipment that can safely carry out the demolition. To minimize the demolition impact, both in terms of noise and dust it is possible to opt for a selective demolition technique by mounting on the excavator a grapple MB-G900. The grapple MB-G900 weights 780 kg and it is designed by MB Crusher, in Fara Vicentino-Italy, to be mounted on excavators with operating weights between 12 and 18 tons. It has a capacity of 0.43 cubic meters with closed claws and combines remarkable agility and strong clamping force which allows to easily carry out masonry demolitions; the closing pressure, depending on the settings, can go from 200 to 400 bar (with a flow rate of 30 liters of oil per minute), while the rotation flow is up to 20 liters per minute (from a minimum of eight). Canadians will be better equipped for the wellpaying middle-class jobs of today and tomorrow as a result of a $98 million investment in the University of Toronto. This joint federal-provincial investment was announced by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development; the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science; the Honourable Deb Matthews, Ontario Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development; and Mr. Han Dong, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development. The Government of Canada’s Innovation Agenda aims to make this country a global centre for innovation—one that creates jobs, drives growth across all industries and improves the lives of all Canadians. This investment is a prime example of that vision in action. The funding will support the Lab Innovation for Toronto (LIFT) project, which will renew 546 labs across the university’s three campuses. Of the $98-million investment, $83.7 million will come from the federal government and $14.3 million from the Province of Ontario. The University of Toronto will contribute an additional $91.8 million for a total investment of $189.8 million. In total, universities and colleges throughout Ontario will receive more than $1.9 billion from the Government of Canada, the provincial government, the institutions themselves and private donors. The funding will be allocated through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, which will enhance and modernize research facilities on Canadian campuses and improve the environmental sustainability of these facilities. As a result of these investments, students, professors and researchers will work in state-of-theart facilities that advance the country’s best research. They will collabo-
rate in specially designed spaces that support lifelong learning and skills training. They will work in close proximity with partners to turn discoveries into products or services. In the process, they will train for—and invent—the high-value jobs of the future. And their discoveries will plant the seeds for the next generation of innovators. That is how the Strategic Investment Fund will jump-start a virtuous circle of innovation, creating the right conditions for longterm growth that will yield benefits for generations to come. Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province’s history— about $160 billion over 12 years—which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province with projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit. Since 2015, the Province has announced support for more than 475 projects that will keep people and goods moving, connect communities and improve quality of life.
