September 2018

New, convenient bulkfill and fertilizer system options provide accurate, high-speed planting. Case IH is expanding the 2000 series Early Riser® planter lineup with a new 2130 stack-fold mounted 3-point hitch model. Available in five configurations, this new planter is rebuilt from the ground up, from the rugged row unit to Precision Planting® technology, and includes new features that enhance productivity for high-tech strip-till and flood irrigation operations and for specialty crops, such as cotton, peanuts and dry edible beans. Available models include 12-row 30-, 36-, 38- or 40-inch row spacing configurations and 16-row 30-inch row spacing configurations.

“We’re excited that this new planter provides high speed, high specs and high tech — all available straight from the factory,” said Tony McClelland, Case IH planter marketing manager. “This is also a great new option for growers in specialty applications, now offering them the same specs and features corn and soybean growers love in the 2000 series lineup.” Efficiently cover acres with accuracy at speed Convenience is key with the new 2130 Early Riser planter. For the first time, these stack-fold models will be available with a bulk-fill tank option, factory-fit liquid fertilizer system and wing downforce. Thanks to these options paired with the rugged new row unit, producers now have access to a highspeed planter for many terrains and crop types. While the 2130 planter also comes factory-available with on-row hoppers, the new bulk-fill tank option brings increased seed

capacity and reliable seed delivery for more efficiency with each pass. The bulkfill tank option allows producers to save up to 50 percent of the time it takes to tender seed with onrow hoppers while tendering more effectively with one man instead of two. The tank also provides 2.2 times more seed capacity on a 12-row planter and 1.6 times more seed capacity on a 16-row planter when compared with on-row hoppers. “This planter delivers on efficiency for producers looking to hit tight planting windows,” McClelland said. “Like the others in the 2000 series lineup, it’s the perfect combination of speed, durability, accuracy and convenience to get the job done quickly and get it done right.” A new factory-available liquid fertilizer system delivers accurate application from aftermarket tanks mounted to the sides or front of the tractor. Growers can save trips across the field by applying starter fertilizer in-furrow. The fertilizer system is available from the factory on the 2130 planter, including all Continued on page 5

toolbar and row unit distribution to the furrow, and a three-section control system with optional row-byrow shut-offs, controlled by the Advanced Farming Systems (AFS) Pro 700. Find the perfect fit for specialty operations Engineered to be a highspeed planter, the 2130 Early Riser can be customized from the factory for specialty operations, including: • Irrigation — The stackfold configuration brings row units close to the tractor, so an operator can easily maneuver and plant as close as possible to an irrigation ditch or pipe. • Strip-till — The mounted design eliminates draft so the planter follows the tractor and, in turn, more precisely follows guidance lines. • Wide rows — 30-, 36-, 38- and 40-inch row configurations offer options for wide rows of specialty crops. • Multiple crop types — An improved metering system gently handles each seed, providing reliable seed delivery for

Supply Post Central/Eastern Canada Edition · Our Readers Are Your Buyers a variety of crops, including cotton, peanuts, soybeans and edible dry beans. “This planter brings the proven benefits of Precision Planting technology and the design of the 2000 series Early Riser planters and opens it up to specialty crop types,” McClelland said. “These customizable features aren’t just for the major crops. Now growers of many crop types and farming practices have access to the 2000 series to customize their dream planter.” Stack-and-go portability The heavy-duty toolbar on the 2130 planter provides a solid frame for a smooth, durable stack-fold system. During planting, weight is evenly distributed across the tractor, maximizing flotation and minimizing compaction. Optional lift-assist wheels are available for added support, and a gullwing option provides additional wing lift when the planter is raised, for more clearance on headland turns. The stacker folding system performs fast, convenient stacking, so operators can get in and out of the field

quickly and efficiently. “At the heart of the 2000 series lineup is the Early Riser row unit with agronomically designed ground-engaging components,” McClelland said. “This row unit delivers

more accurate seed placement and consistent seed depth for fast, uniform emergence.” The 2130 planter is the latest addition to the 2000 series lineup, complementing the existing 1235 stack-

fold planter model. The 2000 series portfolio also includes the 2140 Early Riser pivottransport planter, available in 15-, 20- or 22-inch configurations; the 2150 Early Riser front-fold planter, available in 12-, 16- or 24-row

30-inch configurations; and the 2160 Early Riser large front-fold planter, available in 32-row 30-inch or 36-row 20-, 22- or 30-inch configurations. b Source: Case IH

Michelin And Camso Join Forces

ESCO AND LSW – A Winning Combination lswwearparts.com

Fredericton, NB 506-458-5613

Truro, NS 902-895-4913

Michelin and Camso join forces to create the leader in off-the-road (OTR) mobility solutions. The result of a genuine strategic partnership in the OTR segment, the new division will be managed from Quebec, Canada. Michelin and Camso today reached an agreement whereby Michelin will acquire Camso, headquartered in Magog, Quebec, Canada, and whereby the two companies’ off-theroad (OTR) operations will be combined to form a new division to be managed from Quebec. Led by a set of common values and a strong tradition of innovation and R&D at both Michelin and Camso, and backed by high-quality teams, the strategic partnership makes the newly created entity the world leader in OTR mobility. Reporting net sales of US$1 billion, Camso has been designing, manufacturing and marketing OTR mobility solutions since

1982. Camso is a market leader in rubber tracks for farm equipment and snowmobiles, and in solid and bias tires for material handling equipment. It also ranks among the top three players in the construction market, in track and tire solutions for small heavy equipment. Leveraging its technological leadership in tracks and related systems, its competitive manufacturing footprint, particularly in Sri Lanka, and strong customer awareness of its Camso and Solideal brands, Camso has demonstrated its ability to grow rapidly, expanding at an average pace of 7% per year since 2012. By joining forces with Camso, Michelin will create the world’s number one OTR market player, headquartered in Quebec. The business will benefit from the expertise of Camso’s management team and Michelin’s long-standing presence in Canada, both in Continued on page 7

Laval, Quebec and in Nova Scotia. As world leader, the new entity will represent more than double the net sales of Camso, supported by 26 plants and approximately 12,000 employees and will benefit from sustainably dynamic markets. Thanks to the complementary positioning of the two companies’ product and service offerings, the transaction is expected to deliver the following benefits: In the agricultural market, the creation of a unique player providing its customers with a comprehensive range of premium radial tires and tracks. In the construction market, Camso will reinforce Michelin’s offering with its bias tires and tracks offers. In the material handling equipment market, Michelin will leverage Camso’s renowned Solideal and Camso brands to become the market leader in solid tires. The deployment of the new entity’s offer will be accelerated by the complementarity of both Michelin and Camso’s distribution networks. Cooperation between

Camso and Michelin researchers will bolster the Group’s innovation capacity in tracks and airless tires. Cross-fertilization of R&D expertise will enable the teams to consolidate the Group’s position as a global technological leader in support of sustainable mobility, as Michelin’s headway in terms of longlasting performance of tires is a differentiating factor and a key strength for reducing its environmental footprint. In addition, Michelin’s technological breakthroughs in reducing soil compaction while maintaining superior traction, for example, will contribute to the products that Camso develops. A strong manufacturing presence of Camso in emerging markets, particularly in Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Jean-Dominique Senard, Chief Executive Officer of the Michelin group, said: “Michelin and Camso have many values in common. This acquisition is a wonderful mutual opportunity. Michelin will benefit from all of Camso’s skills in the off-the-road mobility markets and Camso from

the full range of Michelin’s expertise in the specialty markets.” “Joining up with Michelin’s off-the-road teams is a fantastic opportunity for Camso because of the similarity of our cultures as well as our growth potential,” said Pierre Marcouiller, Executive Chairman of Camso. Through studies and discussions with Camso, Michelin has identified significant opportunities to increase sales and reduce costs, thereby unlocking up to US$55 million in syner-

gies by 2021. After obtaining the customary approvals, Michelin will acquire Camso for US$1.45 billion, corresponding to an enterprise value of US$1.7 billion, i.e., a multiple of 8.3 times EBITDA after synergies. The transaction will not impact the Group’s robust financial position. As part of the transaction, Michelin has made the following commitments: The OTR division’s decision-making center will be based at Camso’s headquarters in Magog. The

Page 7

management teams, including the top executive, will work out of the Magog office. Headcount at Camso headquarters (300 employees, of which 100 in R&D) will remain stable, and existing R&D operations and production jobs in Quebec will be maintained. The new skill sets required to oversee this global business, and the anticipated growth in the division’s net sales, will lead to the creation of new high-quality jobs in the Magog region in the com-

ing years. With this transaction, the Michelin Group is confirming its strategic commitment to expanding in the tires and services domains while rolling out its strategy in materials and distribution. Michelin also indicates that, following a thorough analysis, the synergies expected to result from the Fenner acquisition have been revised upward, to £60 million from the initially announced £30 million. b Source: Michelin

Challenges & Benefits Of Using GNSS-Based 3D Machine Control The global construction sector is one of the world’s largest manufacturing industries. However, it is also one of the least automated. Smarter technologies and automation, including 3D positioning and guidance, is a key factor to automating the industry, to increase productivity and deliver incredible ROI for contractors. Traditionally, when a construction site was ready for grading, a surveyor would first stake grade level points. Afterwards, heavy machinery would come in and grade to the levels of the stakes, oftentimes accidentally removing stakes along the way. Although this method worked, technology has evolved to make the process simpler, safer, and more efficient. With the advent of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)-based (3D) machine control & guidance technology, heavy machinery can be

equipped with all of the required components on the machine itself. A machine equipped with an entire system eliminates guesswork between stake points and cut/fill can be performed in real time, increasing job accuracy, productivity, and efficiency. However, entry barriers remain, keeping adoption rates for 3D machine control and guidance technologies low. High initial investments may be the biggest challenge to higher adoption as ‘one size fits all’ simply does not apply. Multiple configurations and additional features for different machines can increase costs. Nevertheless, the overall productivity and ROI benefits can easily help justify this hurdle for many applications. Another challenge is the potentially daunting learning curve and expertise required to properly use this new technology. Although new systems Source: Conexpo

and workflows are becoming easier to use and more intuitive, these solutions are not yet developed to arrive at a jobsite to begin work immediately. There are technical preparations that need to be calibrated properly beforehand, such as data preparation, site calibration/localization, and RTK setup to ensure maximum effectiveness. The competitive edge contractors can maintain using the benefits of 3D machine control and guidance systems should outweigh the cons. These new systems aid contractors in setting up a jobsite quickly, while the accuracy and precision of using GNSSbased systems results in significantly less rework and increased job time efficiency. Overhead and operating costs are also reduced as operators can achieve desired grade rapidly, using less fuel and resources. Further, completing the work entirely within the cab of a machine promotes a safer work environment and significantly increases production. b

Demag AC 500-8 All Terrain Crane In The Middle Of Stuttgart You would be hardpressed to find a place in Germany that is as busy and congested as the area around the main train station in Stuttgart. And that is exactly where Bietigheim-Bissingen-based crane service provider Wiesbauer had to erect a 90-meter-tall top-slewing tower crane for construction company STRABAGZüblin and STRABAGBMTI. For the challenging project, Wiesbauer decided on its Demag AC 500-8 all terrain crane for a number of reasons, including its compact design and the associated maneuverability. While getting the eight-axle unit through downtown Stuttgart was a relatively relaxed affair, accessing the work site behind the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) buildings proved to be significantly trickier. Wiesbauer Project Manager Marco Wilhelm explains why: “The area

behind the bank could not be accessed by our heavy goods vehicles directly, as the official access road passes through a bridge with a 30-tonne limit and consequently is not designed to carry the weight of our vehicles.” This meant that an alternative route had to be found for the crane and lowbed trailers. The private tunnel used by Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and Deutsche Bahn, which also led to the setup location for the tower crane behind the LBBW highrise, was the obvious solution. Therefore, one of the busiest intersections in all of Stuttgart had to be closed briefly at five o’clock in the morning so that the crane, assist crane and the lowbed trailers would be able to pass through the tunnel against the direction of traffic. 104-meter hook height with luffing jib Once the vehicles

were at the site, it was time for the Demag AC 500-8 to shine with its ease of assembly: It took the team a mere 6 hours to set up the crane with a WIHI-SSL 60° configuration, a telescopic boom length of 51.80 meters, a 66-meter luffing fly jib, and 120 tonnes of counterweight. This made it possible for the AC 5008 to reach the required hook height of over 104 meters and lift the topslewing tower crane components, which weighed up to 13.5 tonnes, at a radius of 43 meters. The crane’s excellent lifting capacity values at large hook heights and radii were crucial for the Stuttgart assignment. Shared perception Before the actual lifts to erect the tower crane, a smaller assist crane was first used to lift the corresponding components off the lowbed trailers and set them down on the ground so that they could be preassembled. After this, the Demag AC 500-8 took over the erection work as the main crane, and this meant that it had a number of unique challenges Continued on page 11

ahead of it: Since the tower crane had to be placed between two office buildings right next to the large glass façade of the LBBW high-rise, extremely high operating precision was required. And on top of

Supply Post Central/Eastern Canada Edition · Our Readers Are Your Buyers this, all the tower crane components had to be positioned over and beyond the high-rise and the jib had to be assembled over the latter – no mean feat for crane operators Karlheinz Moll and Steven Ziellmann, who also had to

contend with the fact that there was a wall blocking their line of sight and accordingly had to rely on their BMTI fellow team members to guide them by radio. “In addition, the two high rise buildings provided wind effects that

their experience and the precise controls that characterize the AC 500-8 meant that they had the situation under control at all times and were able to complete the job on time. “Just like we expected, our AC 500-8 proved to

Case IH Launches Limited-Edition 50 Series Axial-Flow Combine To commemorate the rich legacy of Axial-Flow combines, Case IH is excited to launch the 50 series Axial-Flow combine lineup with a special-edition 150 series combine. The 150 series combine features International Harvester heritage styling, color schemes and decals reminiscent of the first Axial-Flow combine in 1977. The memorable white cab top and tire rims give way to the latest harvest advancements to help producers put more grain in the tank. The productivity enhancements of the legendary single rotor technology, Cross-Flow cleaning system and 2-speed electric shift transmission en-

For younger generations, this is the combine they grew up in.” b

JK Irving Plants Company’s Billionth Tree With Sons Jim And Robert James K. (JK) Irving planted the company’s one billionth tree since 1957. He was joined by sons Jim and Robert – co Chief Executive Officers of J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI). One billion trees planted is a national record in Canada for a private company. Over 400 employees and retirees from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Maine attended the official tree planting and unveiling of the commemorative rock that was followed by a BBQ celebration. The JDI tree planting program had small beginnings with 3000 trees planted in Black Brook, New Brunswick in 1957. In 1958 the company started the tree nursery in Juniper, N.B. Originally the goal was to produce one million trees. Eleven years later, the tree planting program had grown to over four million seedlings planted in 1968. In 1986, K.C. Irving planted the 200 millionth tree. The forests owned and managed by JDI today will absorb 92 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 50 years – equal to 350,000 cars off the road per year for the next 50 years. When the tree planting program began in 1957 the company had two sawmills and a pulp mill. Today, over 20 million trees a year are planted and there are over 4600 direct employees in Canada

ership and support over his past 70 years in the forest products business,” said son Jim (JD) Irving. “The timberlands are the foundation for new growth of jobs and capital investment to expand and modernize our facilities to compete. We are not just growing trees; we’re growing opportunities for great people. We are committed to continuing what my father started. And with the help of everyone here today we’re on the move towards planting the 2nd billionth tree.” All of the lands owned and managed by J.D. Irving, Limited are environmentally certified through independent audits under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) in Canada and US as well as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in Maine. In 2017, the company was honoured with the SFI Leadership in Conservation Award for North America. b

and the US operating 10 sawmills and 1.5 million tonnes per year coming out of the pulp, paper and tissue mills. The company is one of a handful left in North America today that sustains a value chain from the seedling in the forest to the tissue products on the store shelf. “I want to thank everyone – past and present who played a part in achieving this great milestone. It has been a very rewarding journey to see these trees planted,” said JK Irving, Chairman of J.D. Irving, Limited. “From the very beginning we’ve always seen caring for the forest as an important responsibility. This commitment goes back generations and continues today.” “On behalf of my brother Robert and myself, we want to thank our father for his lead- Source: JK Irving

September 2018 Deere says the cab on the W170 is 6-inches wider and is quieter and more comfortable than previous models.

New W170 Windrower Targets Canola Growers FRONT PAGE STORY: New John Deere W170 Windrower makes swathing faster and easier in heavy crop and hilly conditions. For even more productivity gains, McKelvey says producers can equip the windrower with John Deere AutoTrac guidance. “Using AutoTrac, customers can harvest more comfortably and more accurately. AutoTrac also reduces operator fatigue, saves fuel by reducing overlap, and helps customers swath more acres in less time,” says McKelvey. Seven draper headers are available in 15- to 45-foot (4.57 to 13.72 m) widths and provide improved access to the end shield. The 30- to 45-foot (9.14 to 13.72 m) drapers have belts that are 8 inches (20.3 cm) deeper and provide 30 percent more capacity than previous belts, giving operators the ability to swath faster in highyielding canola fields. The new draper models include the 1415D, 1420D, 1425D, 1430D, 1435D, 1440D and 1445D. Programmable onetouch return buttons simplify header height control, tilt, knife speed and reel operation. A belt slip warning helps operators stay ahead of potential problems like plugging. Single side hydraulic hookups make connecting or removing the header easier when it’s time to move to the next field or to change crops. “A 6-inch (15.2 cm) wider cab is quieter and more comthan fortable

previous models,” says McKelvey. “Two trim levels for the cab are available and include a leather seat and telescoping steering. For working at night, the new W170 Windrower has eight LED lights that provide outstanding 360-degree visibility.” For more info, contact your local John Deere dealer or visit JohnDeere.com. About John Deere Deere & Company (NYSE: DE) is a world leader in providing advanced products and services and is committed to the success of customers whose work is linked to the land — those who cultivate, harvest, transform, enrich and build upon the land to meet the world’s dramatically increasing need for food, fuel, shelter and infrastructure. o meet the demands of small grain customers growing high-yielding canola varieties, John Deere introduces its smart, powerful W170 Windrower and a wide range of draper headers to make swathing faster and easier in heavy crop and hilly conditions. “During benchmarking studies in heavy crop conditions, the W170 Windrower showed an impressive 20 percent productivity gain,” Nick McKelvey, John Deere marketing manager for windrowers, says. “With 46 inches (116.8 cm) of ground clearance and 12inch (30.48 cm) wider walking beams, tall windrows can flow easily beneath the machine’s frame and are corralled by a new swath compressor. The swath compressor forms loose crop into a tight, uniform windrow, making it easier for a combine to pick up, eliminating the need for a canola roller.” Part of the productivity gain realized by the W170 can be attributed to its proven John Deere 4.5L engine that produces 12 percent more horsepower than its W155 predecessor. The engine is paired with a higher-capacity variablespeed fan that can be reversed, making it easier for operators to clean. At 27.3 mph (43.9 kph), the W170 has the fastest transport speed in the industry to quickly move operators from field to field.

The W170 is powered by a John Deere 4.5L engine that produces 12 percent more horsepower than its W155 predecessor.

Shredder Upgrades Calls For An Upgrade To Sennebogen At Lakeside Auto Recyclers

Mike Levell says he and his family business have been easing their way into the auto shredding business. With their latest move up to a 4,000 HP, 6085 auto shredder last April, Lakeside Auto Recyclers has picked up the pace, and there’s no time for time off! “It’s a full-throttle lifestyle,” Levell says. With the new shredder, he found that his previous material handler couldn’t keep up with the challenge. “It didn’t have the best balance, and it needed a lot of maintenance and downtime. I wanted something more suitable for this kind of production

- a more reliable machine.” Levell had spent some time traveling to other recycling yards to see their shredder operations. What he saw convinced him that Lakeside needed a new Sennebogen machine to feed his 6085. “I got down to two possible material handler lines. I really gravitated to the way the Sennebogens are designed, and I learned that their service and support is really great,” he concluded. In April, after the 6085 was commissioned, Lakeside took delivery of a new Sennebogen 840 M. This model is a rubbertired 117,000 lb. (53,000

kg) purpose-built machine powered by a 305 HP (227 kW) Cummins engine. Levell had it fitted with Sennebogen’s orange peel grapple. After almost a year in production, the 6085 is churning out shred as advertised and is running smoothly. The shredder sets the pace for every other aspect of the operation. “It’s a hungry machine! Yesterday I watched it eat a 1-ton Chevrolet pickup in about 25 seconds,” says Levell. “It can normally process two or three cars in a minute.” As long as it’s getting fed, the 6085 will produce of 55 tons/ hr. Any problem with other equipment just gets in the way of Lakeside’s mission to “Shred The World!” Lakeside is now receiving trailer-loads of cars to process from up to 100 miles away and uses the old machine to move

cars into the staging area by the shredder. A wheel loader hauls away the outbound shred and fluff. “The 840’s main job is to feed the shredder and keep everything going, without any downtime,” Levell explains. “If you can’t feed the shredder, you’re pretty well out of business and Sennebogen helps keep my operation going.” Along with managing the business at Lakeside, Levell is often at work in the cab of the new Sennebogen. “It’s an amaz-

ing machine – it’s really safe, really quiet, really comfortable. It has a good feel for the operator; smooth, strong and efficient. The cab is nice and quiet; you can’t even hear the shredder. I love the two cameras (rear & right side), so you can see out the back and see through the blind spot next to you. And it’s comfortable. When you’re spending 10 hours a day in here, it’s the place you want to be.” Levell credits Sennebogen’s hydraulic design

Page 15 for much of its reliability. “There’s no electronics. So there’s less to go wrong.” To date, the Sennebogen has also met Lakeside’s expectation for dealer support. “Murphy Tractor has been really good; right on the spot. Once we have a few more Sennebogens in the yard, I’ll send a couple of my guys down to the Training Center in Charlotte. For now, Murphy has been on top of all the service.” b Source: Sennebogen
