elcome to the May Issue of Surrey Rocks Magazine.

We have an action-packed issue for you this month. Our fashion shoot comes from Nettie Knows, named after proprietor Georgie’s style queen and fashion-loving mother, Annette. Surrey resident Georgie is a talented stylist who is well ahead of the fashion pack when it comes to sourcing niche and must-have fashion brands and accessories. Her recently opened boutique in Weybridge and our exclusive fashion shoot on page 62 is testament to that. Plus, our cover star Charli XCX has just released her fifth studio album and is embarking on the UK leg of her tour. As well as being one of the most successful British female solo artists, she cracked the US market at the tender age of 19 and hasn’t looked back. Read her inspiring story on page 34. One of the biggest sporting events of the year - The FA Cup Final – which is also the football trophy with the longest history (151 years to be exact) is being played on Saturday May 14th at Wembley. Surrey Rocks caught up with footballing legend and BBC pundit Danny Murphy to find out his take on the game, the players, the form and who he thinks will bring home the trophy. Readers will be divided but it’s a great take on the beautiful game’s pivotal final. Elsewhere we bring you the best summer dress trends in For Her, the latest men’s fashion in For Him, an exclusive review of The Ivy Asia Guildford and the Best of the Web covering the funniest game ever of Guess Who. Surrey Rocks’ personal favourite is Snoop Dog, followed closely by Richard Branson. Check out page 16 to select yours! Til next time,

everyone’s talking about... WILDE SERVED CUSTODY PAPERS ON STAGE Olivia Wilde was left stunned as she was served custody papers from her ex-husband and father of her two children, Jason Sudeikis, while on stage in Las Vegas. The actress, 38, was literally mid-sentence at CinemaCon at Caesars Palace on Thursday April 28th promoting her new film ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ when a woman handed her an envelope marked “Personal and Confidential.” Not sure whether it was a script or notes from the film’s directors, she accepted the envelope and opened in front of the

crowd! Ever the professional she carried on presenting the trailer for the new film, while obviously shocked at the interruption. It was reported that Wilde is seething at being served the papers whilst on stage. ‘Ted Lasso’ actor Jason Sudeikis apparently did not know this was going to happen at this inopportune moment. The papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the two children of Wilde and Sudeikis in the ongoing custody battle. The couple split in November 2020. Wilde is currently dating singer Harry Styles.

CORDEN LEAVES LATE LATE SHOW Brit comedian James Corden has announced he is leaving as anchor of ‘The Late Late Show’ in the US after his next season. CBS had been trying to get the star to sign for multiple seasons, but he has only agreed one more, his final eighth season. “I never want this show to overstay its welcome in any way. I always want to love making it,” Corden said of his

recent April 28 episode. Since taking over the reins, Corden has won two Emmy’s and turned the show into a pillar of late night programming with his regular ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segments featuring Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber. Corden plans to spend more time in the UK and is mulling a move home with his wife Jules and three children.

NEWS MADONNA & WILLIAMS SPLIT Madonna, 63, and her toyboy dancer boyfriend Ahlamalik Williams, 28, have broken up after 3 years together. The ‘Holiday’ singer had been linked to the American dancer since 2019 and despite the 36-year age gap, appeared very much in love - regularly pictured out together. However, Madonna told pals she is now single and has been posting some very raunchy

pictures on her Instagram. The former couple are said to have remained good friends despite things not working out between them.

CELEBS SUPPORT CAROLINE FLACK FESTIVAL Family and friends of the late Caroline Flack have announced a festival in honour of the presenter called Flackstock. The festival will be held on July 25th and will see comedy, dance and music acts perform, with funds being raised for three mental health charities – Samaritans, Choose Love Mind and Charlie Waller Trust. Natalie Imbruglia, Louise Redknapp, Olly Murs and Fleur East are among the first

acts to be announced for the event, which will be held in the grounds of Englefield House, a luxury estate in Berkshire. Comedians and pals of Flack; Keith Lemon, Joel Dommett and Noel Fielding are also set to feature, as are Paddy McGuinness, Dermot O’Leary and Professor Green, with many more acts being announced shortly. Presenter Caroline Flack sadly took her own life on February 15th, 2020.

DEPP & HEARD GO BACK TO COURT

More than five years after their break-up, Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit against his exwife Amber Heard is taking centre stage in a Virginia courtroom this month. In opening statements shared on April 12, Depp’s lawyers argued that Heard ruined the actor’s reputation by “choosing to lie about him for her own personal benefit.” In 2018, Heard wrote a piece for the Washington Post in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although the op-ed article never mentioned Depp by name, his attorneys said in court documents that it was all part of an elaborate hoax that Heard concocted her story in the hopes of generating “positive publicity” and to “advance her career.” Heard is counter suing for £100m. So far Depp’s evidence has centred on painting Heard as an abuser with borderline personality disorder, using testimonies from staff and doctors close to the actress. Heard is giving her testimony and presenting her case this month and is expected to give damning evidence of domestic abuse and Depp’s alcohol and drug addiction.

FASHION TRENDS

SUITS YOU

With the new hybrid way of working it wasn’t going to be long till fashion got more relaxed to follow suit. And ironically, the traditional 3-piece suit was the first item to get the heave-ho on the runways. Brands including Hermes, Giorgio Armani and Fendi, which have traditionally always placed structured tailoring at the forefront of their fashion collections, have opted for easywearing two piece options that look good in the office but easily as relaxed for loungewear for sofa surfing work calls this Summer. Fabrics have got lighter too - with cottons and linens playing a key focus at Dries Van Noten, Tod’s and Hermes Spring/Summer 2022 collections. Rigid button up suits of yesteryear were replaced by simple tie-waist belts at iconic brands including Louis Vuitton (as pictures here). Flashes of lime colour make this suit more street/less office too.

RAINBOW BRIGHTS Traditional grey, camel and navy attire that usually take centre stage on the men’s runway shows – got high on acid and glowed it’s way down the runways at London, Paris and Milan this year. The most serious of designers (Fendi, Casablanca and Louis Vuitton) also went colour crazy for the rainbow bleed trend, where colours blend into one another to form different colourway stripes. Neon featured heavily too – pink, orange, green and purple hues being the most popular.

16 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

Wear your brights with black for a more toned-down look if an all over colour explosion is not your thing. Don’t want to look like a throwback from a 90’s rave? Then pick just one item such as a Pangaia neon jumper and wear with confidence – brights look great with tans so you can look hot and spicy this summer in one of these. Pangaia hoodies and T-shirts are also made from 100% recycled material.

Sweater vests were all over the runways this Spring/Summer too in the Prada, Dior Men and Erdem shows, the latter preferring knits over cotton. Versace also braved the new sleeveless trend in cool blacks, lime greens and purples (another nod to the rainbow brights above). V neck or round neck both pack a punch this summer – with arms out and gun’s on display only do this sweater vest/ Grandad trend if your upper arms are slightly toned to avoid looking like Matt Lucas’ character Lou from ‘Little Britain.’ Tom Holland and Harry Styles are also fans of this look. Harry’s navy sheep number has been highly papped of late and there are dozens of spinoffs on the high street. While previously a fashion item left to Grandads, the sweater vest has definitely made its comeback.

RECIPE HONEY MUSTARD GRILLED SALMON WITH PUY LENTILS A light and vibrant healthy fish dish from the BBC Good Food Guide with earthy beetroot and lentils, served with basil, rocket and sweet grilled salmon. This recipe is perfect for those hot summer nights and only 560 calories per portion. Prep time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes INGREDIENTS (Serves 2) Zest and juice of 1 lemon 2 tsp wholegrain mustard 1 tbsp clear honey 2 skinless salmon fillets 2 tsp rapeseed oil 5 sliced spring onions 175g cooked beetroot (not in vinegar), diced 250g pack ready-to-eat puy lentils 10 basil leaves 2 big handfuls of rocket salad

METHOD 1. Turn the grill to high and line a baking tray with foil. 2. Mix the lemon zest and juice, mustard and honey in a bowl. 3. Put the salmon on the tray, brush with a little of the dressing, then grill for 5-7 mins – there is no need to turn the salmon over until it flakes easily when tested with a knife. 4. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a wok and cook the spring onions and beetroot. 5. Tip in the lentils with 4 tbsp water, cover the pan and cook for 2 minutes to heat through. 6. Tip into a bowl and toss with the remaining dressing, the basil and rocket. 7. Serve with the salmon and garnish.

WINE MATCH Salmon is in many ways the chicken of the fish world - an ingredient you can serve in many different ways and therefore match with a number of different wines. That said it is one of the richest fish, therefore a natural candidate to pair would be a mediumto-full-bodied white wine such as a Chardonnay, a classic like crisp New Zealand Oyster Bay works incredibly well here. Serve ice cold. But because salmon is a meaty fish if you grill or char, like in this recipe, you can actually pair it with a dry red. Pinot Noir is a great match but a Gamay works very well too. If you prefer white – you could try a dry, semi-sweet white like Pinot Gris if Chardonnay is not your cup of tea.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK

HARRY’S HOUSE – HARRY STYLES

YOU MADE A FOOD OF DEATH WITH YOUR BEAUTY

It’s arrived! The much-anticipated sequel to the original ‘Top Gun’ movie - a mere 36 years later! ‘Top Gun – Maverick’ has been derailed by Ridley Scott’s death and then by Covid multiple times, yet is finally out in Cinemas from May 27th. The new movie stars original cast members; Tom Cruise as Maverick and Val Kilmer as Iceman. Expect to see a lot of great action sequences, including fighter plane sky scenes galore as well as on-ground action from the elite team at US base, Top Gun. While sources close to the film have been tight lipped on content, director Joseph Kosinski, said reuniting Cruise and Kilmer was a great moment: “That was a huge, huge get - having Val come back to play Iceman. To get to work with an actor of that calibre, to see the chemistry, the camaraderie between him and Tom, and to have those two characters reunite in this film, was a really special moment, and one of my favourite parts of the film,” Kosinski revealed. Kilmer has sadly been suffering with throat cancer and had to have a tracheotomy – only enabling to get his voice back to star in the film thanks to AI technology. It’s not known whether the film will be a flop for Paramount Pictures as critics are saying that the original fans may be the only avid watchers and they too can also be harshest critics. Any Tom Cruise outing usually does well at the Box Office though so it could well be a money-making hit, even if it doesn’t hit the high notes with reviewers. Interestingly, Prince William and Kate Middleton were among a handful of people who got a sneak first viewing of the film back at the beginning of April although they have politely declined to comment. Whatever your take on this sequel as the original ‘Top Gun’ was the biggest grossing film back in 1986, making a whopping $47m, there is indeed hope for this new Navy flying flick to reach great heights.

‘Harry’s House’ is Brit star Harry Styles third solo studio album since his ‘One Direction’ boyband days and he has definitely made a clear marked difference in his musical style. This new 13-track album, released by Columbia and Erskine Records, features some thoughtful lyrics on mental health and dealing with fame. It also has some great pop synthesisers and catchy melodies. Harry, 28, released the first single from his album, ‘As It Was’ back on April 1st. It is a fully certified bop of a track and cutely opens with a recorded voice message from his goddaughter Ruby, asking him to pick up the phone. This is not the first time Harry has used saved voice notes. In ‘Cherry’ he interspersed his ex-girlfriend Camilla Rowe in the track. While this song was about love and very melancholy, ‘As It Was’ is far more upbeat - although a touch introspective. In a mysterious trailer for the new album, Styles stands on a stage as a 2D house is raised behind him. He is also seen wearing red sequins in ‘As It Was’. The new album ‘Harry’s House’ arrives two years after Styles’ second album release, ‘Fine Line,’ which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. Styles, went on to win a Grammy for the ‘Fine Line’ single ‘Watermelon Sugar’ - a catchy pop ballad that is still played heavily on the radio even today. Nothing much in terms of critical acclaim was received for his first selftitled album, ‘Harry Styles’ which came out in 2017 - something that Harry was said to be deeply upset about. He is definitely putting in the effort with his third album, as (according to insiders close to the star) he still believes he has a lot to prove in the music industry. It is always hard for boyband members to sever ties completely with their popmanufactured days... Album 2 helped but we hope he finally proves this with his latest offering.

New York Times bestselling author and National Book Award finalist, Akwaeke Emezi, has reimagined a love story in this seductive new novel about a young woman seeking joy while healing from loss. Feyi Adekola wants to learn how to be alive again. It’s been five years since the accident that killed the love of her life and she’s almost a new person now - an artist with her own studio and sharing a brownstone apartment with her ride-or-die best friend, Joy, who insists it’s time for Feyi to ease back into the dating scene. Feyi isn’t ready for anything serious, but a steamy encounter at a rooftop party cascades into a whirlwind summer she could have never imagined: a luxury trip to a tropical island, decadent meals in the glamorous home of a celebrity chef, and a major curator who wants to launch her art career. She’s even started dating the perfect guy, but their new relationship might be sabotaged before it has a chance by the overwhelming desire Feyi feels every time she locks eyes with the one person in the house who is most definitely off-limits, his father. This new life she asked for just got a lot more complicated, and Feyi must begin her search for real answers. Who is she ready to become? Can she release her past and honour her grief while still embracing her future? Akwaeke Emezi’s passionate writing takes us deep into a world of possibility and healing with her new novel. A stirring read where no subject; race, love, loss is too taboo to tackle.

sher Theatre is the new, 280-person capacity, live entertainment venue located just off Esher High Street. The building was previously owned by the Civic Hall and has been lovingly restored and renovated to bring the very best of theatre, arts, music, comedy and culture to Surrey. Having only opened 6 months ago, Surrey Rocks had the privilege of catching up with its charismatic and youthful proprietor Charlie Swift to find out all about this fantastic new Surrey enterprise and what life is like treading the boards. What made you decide to open Esher Theatre? My love of all forms of entertainment - theatre, comedy and music and more. I wanted to create a place where all these arts can come together. Esher Theatre is full of great entertainment for any age or interest. Also, there really is so much talent in Elmbridge and Surrey – I really felt there needed to be a platform to showcase this. The renovation project must have been huge, how long did it take? The whole project took a year. It was actually quite funny as I built a miniature wooden model of the vision I had for the theatre, working out the minimal space I needed for each area including its auditorium, green room and dressing rooms. I looked at 6 different places before I finally chose Esher.

We hear you even have a piece of the Royal Albert Hall at Esher Theatre, is that true? Yes it is actually! One of the companies we use is Western Rigging and they service the Royal Albert Hall so we managed to get the Hall’s original quad truss bar in our theatre! Can you tell us about some of your favourite upcoming shows? ‘The Alchemy Beat Collective Steam Punk Cabaret’ is a round table event with circus and cabaret performances on May 6th. ‘Showtime Orchestra Featuring Sing That Swing Rhythm & Blues is a 20-piece band with a very impressive

supporting light show coming on May 26th. ‘Kid David Jenson Presents...’ is a fabulous one too. The ‘Top of the Pops’ and Radio One presenter is a new regular gig featuring Kid and a famous guest on each show. He is bringing Chris Jagger on the June 10th. Then returning after popular demand will be Shakatak - who performed on our opening night in September. That one will be on June 11th. but readers please do get in early for your favourite shows as they are selling out quicker than ever. What shows have you been most proud of to date and why? The Jersey Boys, Brian Blessed, Harry Hill and Toyah Wilcox were stand out shows for me. Plus, the WW1 play Journey’s End was amazing, so much so we are considering a brand new Remembrance immersive experience in November.

Oh please tell us more?! Without giving too much away expect gunfire, explosions, poppy displays, and a lot of WW2 memorabilia including vehicles. That sounds amazing. Can you tell us a bit more about your seasonal shows? Yes, we think it’s important to put on the seasonal stuff. We have fun shows for Halloween, Easter, St Patricks, Christmas and other major (and minor!) calendar dates.

We are improving and restoring all our buildings to eventually go completely carbon neutral. Our heating and ventilation are already completely electric via a deal with Dyson – there are only 3 venues in the whole of the UK that are able to provide this and we are proud to be one. We are excited to start working with Tesla to go completely green and have a zero-carbon footprint in the future. We are also expanding! This is a Surrey Rocks exclusive... we have just taken on the neighbouring buildings and will have a brandnew café and state-of-the-art dance studio opening by the end of the year. The studio flooring is from the finest brand Harlequin and will be like the iconic Pineapple dance studios in Covent Garden. We can’t wait to show everyone.

harli XCX, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, is a rarity in the music industry. Unlike other Brit hopefuls she cracked the US market aged 19 well before becoming a force to be reckoned with here in the UK. Charli (the XCX stands for “Kiss Charli Kiss” - her old MSN Messenger username) wrote and sang on the smash electropop hit ‘I Love It’ for the Scandinavian duo Icona Pop. The track sold more than 2.5 million copies in the US and was such an edgy and catchy song it became known as “the US soundtrack to summer.” She also co-wrote and provided vocals for the Iggy Azalea track, ‘Fancy’ which sold 7 million copies worldwide and became the most streamed track on Spotify in the States. Americans definitely got Cambridgeborn Charli XCX first. In 2015, her breakthrough single ‘Boom Clap’ featured on the soundtrack to the US box office film ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ which catapulted her to further superstardom. As a result, she toured the US with her own

headline show, “Girl Power”, and was awarded “Hit Maker of the Year” at the 9th Annual Billboard Women in Music Awards. Not that the Brits and Europeans missed a trick here…they were soon to follow. Charli had a few years out partying in Brazil and dating a producer 11 years her senior. It was her time to “grow up” away from the media spotlight. It wasn’t until later that year that the singer acknowledged her real calling. “I realised that I just wanted to be a f***ing boss. I decided I didn’t have to choose between being an artist and being a songwriter and just started to do both. I felt ready to go and make songs and not feel worried about making a cool record or getting a hit. I just wanted to make songs that I really like. “I figured out who I was; it took me ages but was so liberating and amazing. I think it’d be cool for young girls, especially, not to worry about what people think of them and not try to replicate what they think is the right thing to do.”

FEATURES Despite being only 29, Charli XCX now has five hit albums under her well-styled belt. She made her first album aged only 14, back in 2007, with money she was loaned from her parents - which she was quick to dismiss as an “experiment!” To this day, she is slightly annoyed that her early tracks, including the strangely titled ‘I Wanna Be Darth Vadar’ and ‘Dinosaur Sex’ are still easily found online. “I don’t count that as the beginning of my career. But whatever. Everyone did embarrassing s**t when they were 14. My mistakes are just live online for everyone to hear!” she admits. However, it was exactly this – and her successful My Space page – which alerted industry music moguls to the young, raw talent. Charli also interestingly used to perform at Warehouse raves in London when she was too young to even have a drink at them! She was briefly signed in 2010 to Asylum Records but Warner Music, Atlantic catapulted her to success. Her second album, and her first proper studio album signed as an artist, entitled ‘True Romance’ was released in 2013 and the third, ‘Sucker’ released the following year to critical acclaim. Charli XCX’s stock was starting to rise at home at this time when notably artists find it the other way round, or not at all – like Oasis, The Jam, Stone Roses and Robbie Williams to name but a few who were notorious for trying unsuccessfully to crack the US market. Charli XCX opened for Katy Perry on the European leg of her Prismatic World Tour and the same year headlined her own UK. She also featured alongside R&B artist Tinashe on rapper Ty Dolla Sign’s single ‘Drop That Kitty.’

This year Charli XCX has launched her fifth studio album ‘Crash’ to excellent reviews. It’s a far cry from her slower, more melodic fourth album ‘How I’m Feeling’ released in 2020 and written during lockdown with the album cover showing her relaxed, sprawled on a bed. The album artwork for Crash - interestingly her last album for Warner’s Atlantic - is an extremely racy and graphic picture showing Charli XCX bikini clad on the hood of a car covered in blood. While she has received a bit of slack for this “attention grabbing image” – it has got people talking, and more importantly, buying her records.... pushing her into the number one album spot in the UK for the first time.

‘Crash’ is most definitely cool and catchy – a sublime mix of pop and electro pop with collaborations from the talented indie rock chick Caroline Polachek and rockers Christine and the Queens. Whether you’re a fan of Charli XCX or not you have to admit she is a true all-rounder; writer, lyricist, singer, dancer, director and she knows the direction she wants to head in. Whilst she was embarrassed about her pop heritage, she has now firmly embraced it – and blends a perfect mix of electropop, breathy singing and clever lyrics to provide mass appeal all over the world. Plus, she cracked the tough US market as a teenager, that is a true accolade for the beautiful Brit export. Liam Gallagher and Robbie Williams must be seething!

CHARI XCX CRASH UK TOUR DATES You can catch Charli XCX this month as she continues the UK leg of her tour: 13th May – Dublin 15th May – Glasgow 17th May – Manchester 18th May – Birmingham 19th May – London 21st May – Norwich 22nd May – Sheffield 23rd May – Nottingham For tickets see www.ticketmaster.co.uk/charli-xcx-tickets

LIVERPOOL V CHELSEA FA CUP FINAL BBC ‘Match of the Day’ pundit, football journalist, former England player, Fulham Captain, Spurs and Liverpool midfielder, Dad of 3 and Grandad to 1 – Danny Murphy has achieved quite a lot in his mere 45 years! Currently residing in Surrey, we had the pleasure of catching up with the sporting legend to find out all about his predictions for the upcoming FA Cup Final match between Liverpool and Chelsea on May 14th. SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

What are your predictions for the FA Cup Final? I think with finals it’s not always about form. Liverpool are just on a mission at the moment, they are beating everybody and are playing with such energy. You have to make them favourites really. Chelsea, though as we’ve seen, were champions of Europe last season. Wonderful players, great manager and they are more than capable of beating Liverpool. It’s certainly not going to be one-way traffic, but you have to say at the moment Liverpool are favourites, because of the way they are playing. Liverpool also have a great record in finals. The FA Cup is something Liverpool haven’t won for quite some time so I think it will be a real focus for them. I can’t see them losing. What do you think is the secret of Liverpool’s success this season? Good question! The success is not just this season it has been for the last 3 or 4 now. They are remarkably consistent. One of the main reasons is their manager Jurgen Klopp and his ability to motivate with the intensity they play at and the second reason is they have a wonderfully gifted squad of players that are all hungry for success. Sometimes you find a balance of

quality and tenacity that just works. If you look at Manchester City and Chelsea, they have players that people the world over love and admire – but with Liverpool it is more of a collective. The main reason their manager though, although they do have to take onboard what he is saying and doing. Who do you think are the best players are for Liverpool at the moment? Mo Salah has been the star. His goal scoring has remained at a level that nobody ever thought he was going to achieve. He really has exceeded expectation, he will probably win ‘Player of the Year’ but there are lots of players in that side that deserve a mention... Virgil van Dijk the centre half probably one of the best central defenders in the world – cool, calm, collected, Allisson one of the best goalkeepers in the world who is always there when they need him and Henderson the captain that leads them so well. There is so many, but Salah is the game changer in any match. What are the Liverpool tactics going to be on the day? This is one of their strengths - they don’t change and they don’t alter tactics basically. Liverpool’s system doesn’t change, a bit like Man City really. The best teams very rarely change. They are so convinced they are doing it the right way and Liverpool’s strength is high energy, front foot and we’re

coming after you and going to beat you. It’s not so much a game of chess. Chelsea, on the other hand to be fair, have been very good until recently at playing games of chess and changing what they do to compensate. Who’s the best manager in your opinion – Jurgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel? I’d have to say at the moment Klopp ahead of Tuchel, just based on what he’s done. Tuchel’s still a terrific manager and I think Chelsea should still be keeping hold of him. He needs to win a Premier League to get in the same league as Klopp though. The players must be getting pretty nervous, how did you cope with pre-match nerves before major games? It came with time, experience and wisdom; the first time it really drains you though. Your breathing is affected, and your legs go a bit to jelly but once you’ve done it once or twice you learn from those experiences. The big moments are decided by those players that don’t get as nervous as the others; I mean penalty shootouts are a great example of that. But I don’t think nerves will be a factor in this game. What was it like playing at Wembley in front of a 90,000 strong crowd? It’s an iconic stadium that when you are from this country you desperately want to play at. I was 14 when I first played Wembley. I then played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, so I missed out on a couple. When you are a footballer you want to win trophies and play in the best stadiums in the world like Wembley. It’s an amazing experience. Manchester United are getting a fair bit of stick of late, especially after their match with Liverpool, do you think commentator Gary Neville’s comments were fair? I think the criticism was fair. Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and always getting talked about and they have had a disastrous season. However, the biggest criticism

44 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

that any footballer will tell you they don’t want to hear is that they have a lack of effort and lack of commitment and that’s been labelled at the players at the moment. When you watch the team, you can tell they don’t settle well. I am not jumping on the bandwagon that they are not trying and they don’t care, I think it’s a lack of fitness, lack of confidence and a bad plan. They are miles away from competing with Liverpool and Man City. Considering they have spent more money than anyone else in the Premier League that is a sad state of affairs. They do have a new manager, Erik ten Hag, coming in so hopefully that will pick up. It must be hard to comment on a game when you have been a lifelong fan of a team? It gets easier because I have done it a long time now, but I think initially you tend to be favourable or biased towards your team because you know some of them or you don’t want to upset the fans. I mean over time you just start watching the game very neutral. I always want Liverpool to win but if I’m doing a live game

as a manger. Gerrard just needs to win trophies as a manager to be in the same league.

Do you still have rivalry with players you used to play against in Man U? No if anything respect grows. When you first start out you play against Man U players for example as enemies - but then you go onto being in the England squad and form a friendship. When you meet them in punditry you have a laugh about the past and it’s gone, all that silliness. If anything, you have a greater respect.

And who is Chelsea’s greatest player of all time? Their greatest goal scorer of all time was someone I respect and admire greatly, Frank Lampard - and to not even be a forward and score that many goals is impressive. Someone with the whole history of Chelsea may argue with me there... but I’d go Lampard.

Who do you believe is the greatest Liverpool player of all time? Although Kenny Dalglish is king, and he was my favourite player as a young lad, I think Steven Gerrard could be on a par with him. Kenny Dalglish is called king for a reason – he won nearly everything there was to play as a player and then nearly everything

a G r e m Sum With summer fast approaching, it’s time to start planning those garden parties so ask yourself, are you making the most of your outdoor space? From creating a garden room to clever lighting tips to create the wow factor when dusk falls, here’s how to really impress your party guests this summer and beyond.

46 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

t c e f r e P e h T

y t r a P n e d r a G CREATE A ‘GARDEN ROOM’ One thing that is lovely to do in summer is create a ‘garden room’. You can do this by using a covering, like a stretch tent. It doesn’t have to be big and is a really effective way of maximising the space. It also looks super chic and it’s great for the British weather. The free-flowing design and flexibility of a stretch tent means that suddenly you’ve created a whole room at your house that people haven’t seen before. The sides can also be pulled down if it rains so your party can go on regardless.

ADD CLEVER LIGHTING When the sun goes down, the party really gets started, so make sure you get the lighting right. Festoon lights are a great way to instantly add a party feel to your garden – and best of all, you can keep them up all year round. Another thing that can completely transform your outdoor space, which you might not have thought of, is adding lights to plants and trees. If you have a tree in your garden, wrap fairy lights around it. You’ll be amazed at how effective this simple trick is. I love to add solar lanterns to flower beds, which will come on as darkness falls. Just don’t forget to charge your solar lights for 48 hours beforehand.

48 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

DITCH FORMAL SEATING Instantly update your outdoor space by playing around with different styles of seating. It’s summer, so no one wants a stuffy dinner party or getting stuck next someone you don’t really want to make conversation with for an hour. Ditch the traditional sit down and have lots of lovely informal seating arrangements instead. Think comfy seats, low coffee tables, cushions, outdoor rugs, and fold away chairs so you can create extra space later on.

SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

FEATURES

CREATE DIFFERENT ZONES This will depend on how big your garden is, but if you have the space, consider creating different party zones. As guests arrive, direct them to the ‘cocktail zone’ in the garden, with ready-made drinks they can easily help themselves to. This is where people will initially be catching up and chatting so should be free from loud music so they can hear each other talk. You could also add an outdoor bar area, which acts as a focal point for guests to gather around. Once people have eaten and become more relaxed, there needs to be a designated chill out zone. This could be as simple as a few seats with blankets as the temperature starts to drop. But if you’re going all out, you could add a firepit with low benches to create a cosy corner.

50 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

HAVE A ‘DINE ANYWHERE’ APPROACH This isn’t as scary as it sounds and doesn’t mean people will be eating food all over your furniture! An easy way to feed guests, especially in the garden, is to order a selection of food platters rather than having a sit down meal. Grazing platters are very on trend right now and come in lots of options, from antipasti to tapas, meze, cheese – even dessert platters. Bowl food - small dishes such as risotto, curry or chilli - is another great ‘dine anywhere’ option, and can be served by waiting staff if the party is for a special occasion and you are having caterers in. Both options will fill your guests up and the ‘perch anywhere option’ gives them a muchneeded chance to catch up with friends and family they might not have seen in a while.

BRING THE WOW FACTOR If you have the budget, go all out and bring the wow factor to your party with some added extras to surprise your guests. This could be having a themed party - hiring a mixologist to serve proper cocktails, or having a flair bartender put on a show - which is a fabulous opener for any party. You could even add a live performer to play alongside your DJ, such as a percussionist, saxophonist or violinist to really get the party rocking. Or don’t forget a silly silent disco for the end of the evening when you’re worried about your neighbours. Flashing headphones gets the grown-ups bopping like children!

52 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

CHECK YOUR GUEST LIST Pay close attention to your number of guests in relation to the space you are using. This is super important and very often gets overlooked, but is vital for the vibe of any party. There is nothing worse than a huge room and not enough people in it! It’s much better to be crowded, even if it’s a bit hectic to begin with, because it will always thin out as the night goes on.

O

ur brand is built on creativity and integrity so when it came to opening my second salon, the goal was to create a space that was stylish and sustainable. A salon that finds balance, allowing quality experience and contemporary design that also happens (not by accident) to be sustainable. At HARE & BONE we’re not eco-warriors in the sense that we want this to be the only take-away from our salon or for you to feel intimidated by our mission. We are on a sustainability journey and we invite you to join us on the ride. From our brand partnerships to business suppliers, we seek out the those with the best eco-credentials, one’s that share the same ethics and principles as ourselves. As part of our mission to limit waste and energy we are reducing our corporate footprint. A reduction in product wastage and water consumption, biodegradable towels and product recycling are just the beginning. Our key partner within the salon is KAO, a haircare product company, who are reducing the environmental footprint of their products and services at salon level and

AS A RESULT, HARE & BONE IS AN INSTINCTIVE FASHION-FOCUSED, STYLE AND TREND CONSCIOUS SALON THAT IS SET APART BY OUR CREATIVE SESSION EXPERIENCE. ICE BLONDE

A full head of white blonde hair will always turn heads but it is crucial that your hair is in optimum condition in order for this to work. To achieve this cool toned, platinum blonde, we would apply either a full head of highlights or an all over scalp bleach for full impact. We work with Goldwell’s BondPro+ products and recommend you use their BondPro+ Bond Booster Day and Night product in

the lead up to the appointment and continue with this once the application has been applied. Ice Blonde is more suited for people with a cooler undertone, is perfect for any age or profession and can also be a great way to blend in whites. It is however, a high maintenance colour choice, with root touch-up ideally every 6-8 weeks. Products such as Oribe Bright Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner is a must to care for this colour at home.

SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 08 09

73

CALIFORNIAN BLONDE For a more relaxed approach to blonde,

the original beach blonde as seen on Pamela Anderson, is your friend. This sun-kissed look can be created by ballayage, baby lights or highlights and works better on longer hair. Up keep on this look is minimum, but looks best on super shiny, illuminated hair, as if the sun is shining directly on you. Protein based products such as Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner will keep hair in optimum condition, while their Shine Light Reflection Spray will recreate that feeling of golden sunshine on dull days.

PASTEL BLONDE Rainbow pastels are

still popular in the salon, and at any point at least one of the team members will be showcasing why. Because they look great. And require minimal commitment. As long as the blonde isn’t the Cali tone above then almost any pastel shade will work. Lemon, mint, rose gold, lavender or peach - the colours and placement of the shades are limitless. Balayage, highlights, full head colour or flashes of colour to add a focal point to a cut. Choosing the right tone again depends on skin colour, cooler tones will look best on cooler skin, while warmer tones on warmer skin. However, we have the knowledge and experience to advise which shade it best. You can be playful with this as pastel tones aren’t permanent and will last a maximum 4 weeks. Using Goldwell’s Colour Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner will help lock the colour in for longer and regular visits for a toner refresh are recommended.

Photo: Shutterstock (Featureflash Photo Agency)

I hope this has inspired anyone looking to refresh their blonde or those considering a move to the lighter side of life. We have a colour offer at the moment. If you upgrade any balayage or highlighting service to include a Kerasilk Colour Care Treatment you will receive a complimentary Kerasilk Colour Care Shampoo & Conditioner to take home and care for your colour longer. Finally, please note that new clients require a sensitivity test 48 hours in advance of colour services. Existing colour clients require a test if a period of six months or more passes between colour services with us. We offer complimentary in salon tests, however if that isn’t possible with your schedule we also offer home testing kits that can be posted out to you at a cost of £15. I’ll be back next month with more insights from the world of hair but if you can’t wait until then, please visit our Esher salon at 7 High Street, KT10 9RL where myself and the team are always happy to talk about our favourite subject. and wonderful waitress for the evening. The dishes turn up as and when they are ready so there is always something delightful to eat at any one time. No extra rice or sides were recommended to order - and this was brilliant advice as we were not full up or overloaded on carbs. We went for Edamame, Wagyu Beef Rolls, Chicken Teriyaki

Skewers and Tempura Prawns from what I suppose would be the entrée/starter section of a traditional menu. The Wagyu Beef in the rolls was cooked medium rare, being so soft and tender it literally melted in the mouth. The Chicken Skewers were succulent and cooked with a slight crisp which was lovely, and the accompanying Teriyaki sauce was sweet, sticky and flavoursome but not too overpowering, so the flavour of the chicken came through as well. The Tempura Prawns were delicious, the batter was light and crispy with no hint of grease. Much to our delight they were also huge and five of them. Although with two eating we did argue over the fifth one... a sign they were that good! Next up was the Mains (or the third section of the menu that is like Mains) I ordered the Miso Black Cod, and my guest ordered the Chicken Avocado Salad. Both were great but the standout dish of the evening was definitely the Black Cod. Having eaten at Nobu, Tamagan and Buddakan in NYC; considered among the best Asian inspired restaurants in the world – this was by far and away the best black cod we have ever tasted. It literally slipped away in chunks as the fork touched the fish and the Miso Sauce was divine. This was the most varied menu too - although we didn’t end up ordering the dishes that come with smoke, huge oversized presentation platters and monkeys or ducks but have pictured it here for your perusal! The Ivy Asia Guildford is a tremendous experience and one that must be sampled – great for parties/ groups, special occasions or a night out with friends.

My Hermes Journey I

f you follow me on Instagram you would have probably been bombarded with stories of me either eating, hotel hopping or shopping in Paris (sorry not sorry!) After rebooking 2 years in a row, I was finally able to take my Mum for her belated 60th Birthday. Of course we had to stay at none other than The Ritz, which is known for its opulent decor and impeccable service. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Our room had been decorated with balloons, pictures of my Mum and I, a freshly baked cake and a bottle of the house Ritz Rothschild champagne! As Paris is the fashion capital of the world, it would be rude not to go shopping, right? I had planned to get an appointment at Hermes, but things don’t always go to plan. I will explain more about this later… I get asked all the time, how do you get a Birkin bag? I would say there is no fixed rule on this but I will share my journey with you. Firstly, I have to say that these bags are very special. Did you know that each bag is hand crafted

by one artisan who has had at least 5 years training. Only the finest leathers are used and it takes around 48 hours to make a bag, hence the reflection in price. I adore the brand and always thought how elegant Birkins and Kellys were. I have done so much research on leathers and colours over the years and have always desired to own one of these coveted bags. Hermes like to see that you are genuinely passionate about the brand and not just a reseller trying to make money. I would say that it helps to stick to one store and one sales associate (SA) that you get on with. That way they can get to know your style and likes/ dislikes which enhances your shopping experience. Only then may you be lucky enough to open up a wishlist where you can request a bag with the colour and specs of your choice. I have been shopping in the same store since 2013 and have been offered 2 bags since. My old SA was so kind, I would sometimes go into the store when I was passing with no intention of buying anything and he would offer me a coffee and

we would sit there chatting! I was really gutted when he left but immediately clicked with one particular lady who was so sweet to me from the moment I walked in. She is now my new SA and I only buy items through her. I am lucky enough to have been offered a special order too which I placed in January. I believe this is due to my great connection with her, rather than my purchase history. A special order is an order where the customer is allowed to select certain options such as particular seasonal colours. That bag is then made especially for that customer based on those specifications. I believe that each SA can choose one person once to twice a year so I feel very privileged to be offered. I cannot wait to show you what I got! It is important to say that I only buy items I genuinely want. There is no point buying a load of items in the hope to be offered a bag as you may not get offered one and this then leads to disappointment. It really is a waiting game and this is why you have to genuinely love the brand. If you are not prepared to wait and do not fancy anything else from the brand then I would say it is better to buy a bag directly through a trusted reseller. Be prepared to pay a premium price but then at least you get exactly what you want straight away and you are not wasting money on unwanted items. My third Birkin bag was bought through a reseller (Sign of the Times) as it was a very rare colour and size and I knew I probably wasn’t going to get it in store. Paris is the only store in the world where you can buy a bag without a purchase history (supposedly). You have to make an appointment online through their booking system the day before you want to go which is a random selection. If you are lucky enough

to get an appointment, you have the opportunity to be offered your dream bag. I attempted 3 times to make an appointment for each day I was there (It won’t let you do more than 1 a day). I wasn’t lucky enough to get one. I still went into the store as I wanted to buy a twilly scarf for a little memory of my trip. I started chatting to a sales associate. I told them I had a good purchase history in London and how passionate I was about the brand. I was polite and friendly as I always am. I even had my Birkin with me! But no... I still was not offered a bag. So please be aware that even though people say it’s easier to get a bag in Paris, this is not always the case. I am obviously very grateful for the bags that I have and I look forward to passing them down to my daughter one day. I still have my special order coming so I will be patiently waiting for that! Please be aware that this is my journey and it may be different for others. And now back to reality which is my pile of laundry and a tonne of housework to do before school pick up time! Au revour x

HIS SERVICES INCLUDE GUIDANCE READINGS, TUNING FORK VIBRATIONAL THERAPY, PROPERTY AND SPACE CLEANSING, SOLAR PLEXUS CLEANSING AND BALANCING, CHAKRA CLEANSING AND BALANCING, BIO-WELL AND LUCIA LIGHT THERAPY.

E

verything that is going on outwardly of your life is an appearance and reflection of your internal state of life - your considerations, convictions, sentiments, and ensuing activities, thus, by being of mindful of these, you can recognise which bolster you and which impede your life. Intuitive Readings can assist you with investigating issues and conditions that occur throughout your life which require your consideration and activity. When we ask why an individual’s life appears to be blocked, ailing in prosperity, and what could be done to better it, they may intuitively recall suggesting changes in the way they think, the mentalities and convictions they hold, and their behavior. Intuitive readings aim to assist you with picking up information which lay within, the bits of knowledge which are ‘purely intuitive’ which will assist you with picking up clarity, viewpoints, motivation as well as direction on issues identified with your life circumstances.

LUCIA LIGHT SESSION Light frequency therapy is known to heal just like sound frequency heals. Lucia Light sends white light through your retina, toward the pineal gland (a.k.a. the Third Eye). If the gland is brought back to its optimum state of health, the brain is in a better position to activate a range of healing powers, whether they be physical, spiritual, or both.

BIO-WELL Bio-Well is an Electro-Photonic imaging (EPI) device which measures electrons emitted from a person’s fingers. The result is used to evaluate an

E CARD READING individual’s energy and stress levels and to provide a holistic view of a person’s wellbeing. A comprehensive 24 page report is produced following every treatment session.

TUNING FORK VIBRATION THERAPY Tuning Forks depends on the rule that everything in the Universe is made of vibration. Sound Healing is conceivable because our human bodies are not strong. Our bodies are rhythmic and symphony trying to attain harmony within. Disease and illness are symptoms that our bodies are out of tune or vibrational pace of the body has lost its balance. Tuning forks can help the immune system and help invigorate the body to recuperate itself. Tuning Forks are acoustic resonators and are usually designed as two prongs in a U-shape with a connecting bar, created in metal, most commonly steel. Tuning Forks emit a specific pitch when struck against an object or surface producing a pure musical tone that fades into a vibration overtone. The pitch of Tuning Forks depends on the length and mass of the two prongs, against which surface they are struck and the force of such striking. Tuning Forks are wealthy in reverberation and vibration; they interface and bolster the body’s normal frequencies. The sound waves of the forks vibrate and travel profoundly into the body along vitality pathways influencing the human physiology and getting to our feeling of equalisation, space, memory, and mending.

SOLAR PLEXUS CLEANSING Solar plexus plays an important role in the functioning of the stomach, kidneys, liver, and adrenal glands. It’s found in the pit of the stomach in front of the aorta. It’s part of the sympathetic nervous system. Low self-esteem, lack of self-trust, weak will and poor digestion are a few examples of a blocked solar plexus. It is associated with your happiness and selfconfidence. Keeping your solar plexus balanced maintains peace, harmony and can positively impact your health physically and mentally.

CHAKRA HEALING & BALANCING When your chakras are imbalanced and blocked, it contributes to a variety of physical and spiritual ailments. Chakra healing and balancing is a form of energy healing that focuses on channelling energy into the seven chakras. When we talk about treating chakras we are referring to treating your energetic body. When your chakras are blocked, it affects your physical, mental and emotional state. Balanced chakras improves your overall health and wellbeing, sense of self-worth, higher state of consciousness and more.

PROPERTY & SPACE CLEANSING All spaces absorb and accumulate energy from their surroundings including individuals and cosmic forces. Spaces also hold charges from any events that have occured or continue to occur in that space. Space Clearing transmutes energy positively and successfully of the owners or inhabitants when undertaken professionally. It can significantly change the qualitative environment and bring success, good fortune and harmony if undertaken correctly. Space Clearing can be undertaken for any type of space. Space clearing is not permanent and should be undertaken regularly to ensure optimal conditions and can be individually customised and designed to balance any imbalances, clear any energetic debris and return the space to harmony and balance.

MAY Tarot Reading

Let’s find out what May will bring for you! Oracle Card

Oracle cards are a great way to expand on a tarot reading, offering extra insight and a new perspective on the cards you have received. This month’s oracle card is ‘Stop’. This card is asking you to stop, think and collect your thoughts. Perhaps it may be beneficial for you to take a break. This is a time to think about what stopping means to you. Is there something in your life you wish you could stop forever? Or do you need to pause a situation and come back to it later? Do you want to change your direction? People often think that getting this card means that there is something you must stop doing in your life, however this isn’t the case. All this card wants you to do is reflect and consider stopping. If you are happy with your life and wish to stop nothing, this is great too. Now onto the reading...

Two of Pentacles

Your main card for this month is the Two of Pentacles. This means that you may find yourself juggling multiple priorities throughout May. Time management will be very important, otherwise you might find yourself becoming overwhelmed. Prioritise what is most significant and take things one step at a time. Organising your time can sometimes be quite stressful, but once you have done it, you don’t have to think about it again for a while. Try to adapt to your surroundings and don’t fight what is clearly meant for you. If you have been waiting for your life to get busier, this month should hopefully bring that to you. Just make sure to spend your time on the things that are worth your energy.

The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is all about pausing (which was also suggested with the oracle card above). Stop fighting and remember that whatever will be, will be. Letting go of things that no longer serve you will be important in May, as it will help you get one step closer to accomplishing your goals. Try to look at the things you are finding difficult with a new perspective. There could possibly be a bright side to your situation. Both the Two of Pentacles and The Hanged Man are about not making a firm decision and keeping things up in the air. Pause for a moment and think about what you want from life. As you move forward keep your answer in mind.

Two of Cups

Your final card for May is the Two of Cups. This card indicates a love that fulfils you emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. Whether this be a romantic love or a platonic love differs for everyone. It is a partnership that you value and cherish deeply. If this is a romantic love, there is mutual attraction between the two of you and is definitely not a one-sided relationship. All 3 of these cards have a common theme of balance. Remember that balance is something you must create for yourself and only happens when you figure out what you want. By Pia Louisa

24 AUG – SEPT 3

All eyes are on you this May as after a 12-year absence, Jupiter enters your sign. It’s time to show the world a new vision of yourself. From now until October and from December on into ‘23 it’s all about how others see you and that look, style, brand, image, appearance, personal message or even your job title! Expect rebirth, relaunches and rebranding – a bigger, bolder, brighter, updated version of you is set to enhance your reputation and give you an Access All Areas pass to places you never imagined you would enter. Time to dress, look and speak to impress. Yes, we all know the saying you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. And this is true. But there is another saying that you ever get a second chance to make a first impression. Jupiter in your 1st is all about handing you the opportunity to make your very best one, Aries. Get ready to launch!

Ask your angels and explore the magical, mystical workings of destiny as Jupiter arrives in your mysterious 12th. You’re a soul traveller from now until October delving deep into mysteries. Tarot, psychic studies, astrology or psychology could reveal the inner workings of your soul – and the plan the universe has for you. Nobody can keep secrets from you now. Your truth radar simply alerts you to any attempt to mislead. This is very much an Eat, Pray, Love cycle with Jupiter in here rather than a transit of material success. For you, success may take on a new meaning. Helping others, increased inner wisdom, understanding the meaning of life may become more important to you than worldly rewards. You’ll experience the truth around the saying that there is more to heaven and earth than you have dreamt of before. If you want answers of guidance during this time, rest assured the teacher or the means to discover them, will appear. That’s a lasting gift, Taurus.

110 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 09

Make a wish now, Gemini. Better yet – make three. And in doing this you should see at least one manifest between now and your birthday cycle next year. Jupiter brings you the ultimate birthday event this year as it arrives in your 11th house of friendships, social and professional connections and your future. It’s not what you know in this cycle, but who. Luck and opportunity enter your life via your contacts. Be open to unexpected invitations, last minute changes of plan or events which take you to places outside your usual circles as these are where your future could be forged. Above all now, do not say ‘That’s not my scene’. Who or what you are seeking will be found where you least expect them or it to be. It’s time to be open to the new, innovative and different. And this includes potential friends – and possibly also lovers. A new future opens up. Get into orbit.

How high can you climb? What can you achieve? Status setting moves are in order now Jupiter bigs up that success story for you, Cancer. Long term study or sticking to that path pays off. If you are on the wrong one, Jupiter will offer you an exit route to the right lane. Doors open wide for you during this cycle as opportunity knocks. Be prepared to be noticed and for VIP’s and others to make room for you in their ranks. If so – you’ve earned it. There’s no use sitting back and coasting however. You make it happens but Jupiter just adds that extra push or places opportunity or people in your path to give that extra boost. Know what you want and then supersize that possibility. As this is your house of status, this includes your relationship status as well as your public image and professional status. Yes, that new love interest could be successful, well-travelled and somehow just larger than life on some level. No matter what kind of success story awaits you, the only way is up now.

Jupiter returns to its ruling 9th house in your chart for the first time in 12 years when it enters Aries this month, Leo. The world is your oyster when it comes to travel, doing business in a big way and learning. Expect mind and world expanding events, people, opportunities and breakthroughs. This is Jupiter at its most expansive and generous. Luck is on your side now so don’t be afraid to take a chance. You will be feeling you can take on the world and that those big dreams are not so impossible after all. Travel especially the long distance kind, is highlighted as barriers to it disappear. The people you encounter now and the places you go open up your horizons. There’s also an opportunity to break free from a cycle by applying all you have learned to your current situation and heading towards the different choice or destination than you may have opted for in the past. The only limitations now are those created by your own mind. Dream big and then experience something even bigger and better.

May sees Jupiter exit your partnership sector and arrive in your 8th of shared resources and power money. It will remain in here until October when it will briefly revisit that house of long term love. For now, what you value and what you have that you value is set to expand. Powerful people could give you access to their assets. Open the doors to the vault, Virgo! This is your house of personal power and also yes, sex. Some astrologers shy away from talking about this connection. But not here! What Jupiter is telling you is that you own it, baby! And others may just want what you have to offer now. Jupiter rules higher learning, philosophies and beliefs – so it’s not just about sex. It’s about sex with added depth and higher meaning. It’s about the exploration of passion and reaching new heights with your partner. You want to rock their world and for them to rock yours in return. If you are single, exotic, unusual or lovers from far, far away could provide the exploration you’re seeking.

Jupiter enters your 7th of long-term love, marriage and past, present or potential partners of all descriptions this month. Giving you the opportunity to expand your world and explore life as a two-some. Big up those ideas around love because this isn’t about going it alone. Boo, baes and besties feature as Jupiter always invites us to dance with life. Your dance card should be full now if you just put yourself out there. Single or settled, expect benefits to flow via the person who is opposite you now. If you are seeking any kind of partnership at this time then Jupiter in here tells you that you are lucky in love. Whether this is that prospective love of a lifetime, that working relationship, business partnership, collaborator, friendship or activity buddy. It’s been 12 years since the Fat Planet played Cupid for you in here. So, if you are seeking to become part of a dynamic duo of any description now, accept any and all invitations that come your way. Jupiter will be working in magical ways to connect you to the people that will matter to you. And show you just how far and high you can fly with the right person.

Work it like you own it as Jupiter arrives in your 6th for the first time in 12 years, Scorpio. It works like a cosmic kick-starter. Job offers, second jobs, opportunities to create a side hustle may appear to land in your lap with very little effort on your part (although you do have to make some!). Bosses present or potential will be looking on you favourably now. Or perhaps you are aspiring to their job? This is a cycle which can bring you a promotion or see you becoming your own boss if this is your ambition. If you have been out of work or seeking to return to the workplace after a break, Jupiter in your 6th should deliver at least one opportunity to step back into employment between now and October. Low energy? The Mehs? Jupiter acts like the ultimate juice shot boosting those levels and enhancing that feeling of wellbeing. Get moving now in more ways than one as Jupiter rules the outdoors and sport too. Change that routine and escape the rut. The smallest change you make to what you do everyday whether paid or unpaid hands you massive benefits in a way you may not be able to imagine. Time to get living – and working, bigger and better.

The whole world loves a lover – and that’s you now as ruler Jupiter arrives in your fabulous 5th!Also, the world is your oyster and you own the pearl too. Be ready to be swept away by adventure, romance or simply a lucky break. Time to get yourself noticed and shine. You won’t be able to stop yourself from falling in love with love again. It doesn’t even matter if your heart has been bruised or broken of late. Jupiter’s arrival in your 5th restores your faith in the power of love. And your confidence when it comes to the pursuit of it (or something you love to do). This is your house of attraction and to attract you simply need radiate. Shine on, Sag and don’t be afraid to stand out. Children may feature – either your own or becoming a parent. Watch for that breathlessly sexy lover who could turn you into one – or a step-parent. Yes, that all-time favourite Sag pastime travel is very much back on the menu as this is your house of holidays too. Travelling with that new boo? Also a distinct possibility.

Get set to live it large, Capricorn! If things have been unsettled or simply hard work when it comes to home, living arrangements, family or what you need to feel secure lately, Jupiter’s arrival in your 4th says that lifestyle, career or living space is due for an upgrade. Enhanced security and that precious feeling of belonging could arrive in the form of a better paying job or career move which allows you to upgrade your home. Luck in property matters often follows Jupiter unpacking its bags in here. Whether we are renting or buying, we can end up with more for our money, in a better neighbourhood or in a position where we can extend or enhance our present living space. Big moves may feature for some – escapes to the country or even another country entirely. Jupiter in here simply wants us to have moving experiences. It hates confinement. That home extension could feature for others. Time to get living space, Cappy.

Just how far can an idea take you or what you say, share or hear expand your success story in ‘22, Aquarius? Jupiter in your 3rd is all about communication, commuting, short distance travel, writing, speaking, study, the internet, social media and discovering opportunities right in your neighbourhood. News that’s too big to miss could arrive between now and October which is linked to any of the above. Big up that message, that blog, that Insta feed, YouTube channel or start that side hustle. This is your launchpad. Open your mind to fresh ideas. People who plant the seeds of success are likely to cross your path now or offer you entrée into fresh experiences. Watch out for go-getting, pro-active free spirits who walk their talk. Use them as an example. Success in business or putting yourself and your ideas out there requires more than just talking a good game. You need to bring it. Follow through and success will be what follows you.

Co-ruler Jupiter exits your sign this month but don’t worry, it will be back from a brief re-visit between October – December, Pisces. You now have a ka-ching! period where money, assets, income, self-worth and relationships you can literally ‘bank on’ will expand and bring you that rich feeling. It’s not about ‘stuff’ per se – although your possessions may increase and gifts could also come your way. Jupiter is about experiences. So, it’s about buying those if you find yourself with more cash to spare or simply enjoying the experience of more abundance. Above all, being ‘rich’ or feeling that way will be yours to define in any way you want, Pisces. Fat Planet acts as banker for those dreams. Sure you need to have a business plan just like any other time. But taking steps towards it could get you access to whatever resources it is you need. And this may be something other than money. This is your house of what you make rather than lottery wins. Selfworth is your attraction factor so upgrade this if needed. The results – priceless experiences, Pisces. That’s more than money can buy.

SHYNEFEST WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO START A FESTIVAL?

It was never intentional, it started as my 40th birthday party, which we held on a friends farm… after the weekend, we had so much fun and our friends asked if we’d be doing it again, so it grew from there.

IT MUST TAKE AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF ORGANISATION?

It really does, we live and breathe it, especially as none of us come from event organising/ management backgrounds, so the last few years have been massive learning curves.

WHAT MUSICAL ACTS ARE COMING TO SHYNEFEST THIS YEAR?

We have a few local bands that I am sure many will recognise, such as The Farley’s and Brie, plus a few tributes (we’re very excited to have Guns2Roses), a mix of cover and original bands, including 90’s legends Jesus Jones and Lightning Seeds.

This month Surrey Rocks caught up with Shyne, the brains and beauty behind the amazing Shynefest, which, for the first time, is at Merrist Wood College in Guildford on June 3rd and 4th for their fifth year of unmissable family festival fun. with us at one of our stalls. I am sure there will be selfie opportunities if they do grace us with their presence.

MOST EMBARRASSING ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE?

HOW DID THIS WYNTERFEST GO?

WHAT ALL THE MEN WANT TO KNOW, ARE YOU SINGLE?

YEAR’S

It was BLOODY BRILLIANT! Four top class acts, Graham Armfield, The True Deceivers, Bemis and lastly Lessaiz Fayre who are now joining us at ShyneFest this year, as sadly a band had to drop out. It really was a great night and so good to see everyone out again after the 400 days of January.

IS THIS SOMETHING YOU HOPE TO REPLICATE? Yes definitely!

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR GLAMPING & CAMPING OPTIONS?

We have a few choices; you can camp in your own tent, bring along your campervan/ caravan/motorhome, or you can book one of our lovely boutique glamping tents, which will be situated in their own VIP area.

AS IT’S THE SAME WEEKEND AS THE PLATINUM JUBILEE WHAT IS SHYNEFEST DOING TO CELEBRATE?

We have invited the Queen and Prince Charles along, so we are hoping to see them at some point (they can’t tell us exactly when for security reasons), they might even introduce a band and come have a cream tea

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?

I wanted to be an air hostess when I was very little, as I wanted to see the world. Little did I know they just had a sleep and flew back again.

BEST CHARACTER TRAITS?

I’d say I am quite adventurous and up for a challenge. My biggest fear is public speaking, but I’d happily do a bunjee jump or skydive. Next up is wingwalking, which was a birthday present, can’t wait!

WORST HABIT? Procrastination.

WHAT ENTERTAINMENT ACTS ARE YOU HOSTING THIS YEAR?

The Flying Seagull Project are coming along to entertain the kids on both days, they offer all sorts of festival fun like circus skills, musical instruments, games and stories. We also have a couple of local dance & karate groups coming along to do demonstrations… plus loads more of course!
