PROGRAM NOTES
Santa Claus is coming to town, and he is bringing his own mixtape of holiday bangers! He made his list, checked it twice, and decided his music needed a little spice. With a mashup of cleverly adapted classics such as Joy to the World, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Jingle Bells, Santa is riding his sleigh in style with this one.
Christmas Quirks is designed to be a fun, upbeat holiday celebration that melds traditional Christmas tunes into a variety of styles, including jazz, rock, classical, hip-hop, and punk rock. The pop chord progressions make this creative holiday remix an exciting way to close out any holiday performance.

PERFORMANCE NOTES
Christmas Quirks uses standard percussion ensemble instrumentation as well as the use of a rhythm section (piano, bass, drumset). The rhythm section is the driving force behind the piece as the traditional mallet keyboard instruments carry the melodic weight throughout. It is important that the agogic weight changes with each style shift. This is driven by the drumset and bass players. Take special care that the drumset does not overbalance the mallet instruments, with the exception of the fermata near the end which can be used as a full-on drum solo to kick off an energetic and exciting conclusion.
