PROGRAM NOTES
Motion No. 7 is the last duet in the Motions series. Similar to the previous pieces, Motion No. 7 challenges two individuals to act as a single unit, with each player performing separate sections of the primary and secondary musical material to create a cohesive whole. Performers face one another on opposite ends of the setup while hocketing rhythms and melodies. The main structure and motives of the piece are built on two simple polyrhythms: 5:4 and 4:3.

PERFORMANCE NOTES
• The crotales should be played in such a way where they are removed from the rack and placed face down on a towel. This setup exposes the raised mounting area typically on the underside of the crotale. Regular ‘x’ noteheads should be played on the perimeter of the crotale to create a quick and short sounding of the pitch. The ‘x’ noteheads with a harmonic symbol above it should be played on the raised mounting area in the center of the crotale. This sounds a higher pitch within the harmonics of the crotale.
• Suggested crotale pitches are as written (G, A, Bb)—however, they are not written in the sounding range. Low octave crotales are suggested to achieve the greatest difference between the regular striking area and the raised area. If duplicate pitches are not available, player 1 should use the lower octave C, D, and Eb while player 2 uses the suggested pitches.
• Tuned pipes should be the following pitches: C, D, Eb, and G. The sounding range of the pipes can be in any octave the performers choose. If tuned pipes are unavailable, individual bars from a glockenspiel may be substituted.
