PROGRAM NOTES
Stand Music is a quick, fun, and exciting piece that is sure to put your audience on their feet. This piece features simple rhythms that intertwine and overlap to hint at a marching band drumline feel but in a percussion ensemble setting. It is geared towards band programs with younger students who want to venture into the percussion ensemble world, but it can also be a fun choice for professional ensembles looking for novelty music. Although the score features only three parts, the piece is accessible to any number of performers and can go as high as the ensemble needs!
Kevin RoblesPERFORMANCE NOTES
• A minimum of three performers is required, but more may be used (ideally multiples of three).
• Feel free to add vocals and visuals wherever you see fit. The piece should be all about fun and creating music with your friends.
• Playing positions: For the music stand surface, play where the sound is the most dry. For the pole of the music stand, play where the sound is the brightest.
• The tempo marking of q = 142+ means that 142 is the minimum, but it can go faster if your players are able to.
• It is customary to skip repeats after taking a D.S.; however, in this piece measures 21–28 should be repeated again on the D.S. before jumping to the coda.
• Other percussion instruments or “found” instruments (pots, pans, buckets, chairs, etc.) may be used in place of music stands, provided that the instrument has two distinct sounds to correspond with the two sounds of the music stands.
