The importance of rotating wormers by active NOT by brandname has never been as important as it is today! Resistance is only a matter of time…
The active in MecWorma & Bot is a member of the “mectin” family while MecWorma & Tape Allwormer contains a mectin in combination with morantel. Worma Drench and Worma paste are members of the “BZ” family. Worma paste has a completely different additional active, piperazine, for extra firepower. MecWorma & Tape Allwormer treats and controls tapeworms and is a broad spectrum allwormer. MecWorma & Bot is broad spectrum and controls seasonal bots. Worma paste is broad spectrum, combats BZ resistant small strongyles and sterilises worm eggs within 24 hours of usage, you can even give a 2nd dose 48 hours later if migrating strongyles are a problem. Worma Drench is a liquid formulation which can be administered in various ways (see label) and can be added to feed for those horses that prove difficult to worm. All 4 products have a wide safety margin and are great value for money.

Timeform Review
Timeform Review of spring racing in Sydney and Melbourne By Alex Steedman and Gary Crispe Winx again re-writing the record books and the emergence of a new champion sprinter were amongst highlights of the 2017 spring. Five-Year-Olds and upwards The older horses dominated through the 2017 spring with the six highest rated horses seen throughout the Sydney and Melbourne Carnivals all five years or older. Champion mare Winx stretched her unbeaten run to 22 victories. Even though she maintained this record, the winning streak remained intact despite a host of nervous moments. The first heart in mouth moment occurred first up when Winx contested the Group 2 Warwick
Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 19. Winx missed the start badly and was required to produce a last- to- first success over her stablemate Foxplay.
Winx bridged part of that gap when accounting for a strong field to win the Group 1 Colgate Optic White Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 16.
A fortnight later, Winx was forced to reel in a tearaway leader in the form of Red Excitement second up in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
After three runs in Sydney, the great mare ventured south for the Melbourne leg of her preparation commencing with the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 7.
Both runs were assessed at 118+, well below the master Timeform rating of 134 she achieved when winning the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill earlier this year.
Ear muffs which were applied second up after Winx, missing the kick on resuming in the Warwick Stakes, were removed and expectations were high as the mare made her first

Timeform Review (continued) raceday appearance at Flemington. What ensued was a clinical 6.5 length success and a return to what we know she can is capable of running. Her soft victory over Ventura Storm and Humidor returned a Timeform rating of 133+, a pound shy of her master figure achieved earlier in the year. Next up for Winx was the 2017 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 28. Success in the premier weight-forage event would see Winx become
the second horse alongside Kingston Town (1980-82) to win three consecutive Cox Plates. Having returned to her best three weeks earlier in the Turnbull Stakes, a cakewalk was anticipated for the champion mare. Winx travelled beautifully into the race from the 800m and was looming large as they turned for home. Beaten 7.3 lengths when third in the Turnbull Stakes three weeks earlier, Humidor got on to her back and kept the race alive for longer than anticipated.
The Darren Weir-trained runner was taking ground from Winx’s margin right to the line however a long neck was enough for the Street Cry mare to claim her piece of history. 126 was Winx’s winning figure, below her best but still enough. Humidor is the second highest rated horse in Australia so far this season for his brave effort in the Cox Plate. The Darren Weir-trained runner enjoyed his moment in the sun during the spring when dominant in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 16. While not quite 22 straight wins, Redzel continued his winning streak at the highest level to earn billing as Australia’s best sprinter. Redzel accounted for a small four horse field first up in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick. The Concorde marked the fourth straight start Redzel had run to a Timeform rating of 121 having concluded his autumn campaign with three runs assessed at that level. Two weeks later, Redzel found a new peak in claiming the Group 2 The Shorts at Randwick on September 16. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding can now boast being the highest rated winner of The Shorts, surpassing equal holders of that title in Terravista (122+, 2011) and Moss Rocket (122, 1995). This spring’s renewal of The Shorts was arguably the strongest field the race has ever attracted with six runners having measured up at Group 1 level.
Snitzel's Redzel is Australia's best sprinter.
6
It is no coincidence four of them (Redzel, English, Fell Swoop and Chautauqua) were bound for The Everest at Randwick on October 14.

Timeform Review (continued) The anticipation for the world’s richest turf race was high and attracted an impressive line up of sprinters including Chautauqua, Vega Magic, English and Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign. They could not stop Redzel continuing on his winning ways, claiming The Everest by three quarters of a length over an unlucky Vega Magic. Redzel produced a Timeform rating of 125 to win the inaugural running of The Everest. He then became the first horse to attempt and achieve The EverestDarley Classic double as the gelding led throughout down the Flemington Straight Six to defeat the likes of Terravista and Impending. The five-year-old exited the spring with a new master Timeform rating of 126. A luckless second in The Everest, Vega Magic impressed earlier in the spring. In his first full prep for the HayesDabernig stable, the Western Australian sprinter claimed the Regal Roller Stakes on resuming before leading throughout to win the Group

1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 2. Beating the likes of Black Heart Bart and Tosen Stardom, the run netted Vega Magic a new career peak figure of 126. A pair of popular veterans produced the fifth highest-rated performances seen during spring 2017. Having amassed four Group 1 placings in the 18 months prior, the Patrick Webster-trained Happy Clapper chalked up a well overdue victory at the highest level contesting the Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on September 30.
Clearly the class horse in the Epsom Handicap, he prevailed by a half length over Tom Melbourne who developed a reputation and cult following through the spring for his string of runner up performances. Happy Clapper’s success provided veteran trainer Pat Webster with his first Group 1 victory and also gave seven-year-olds their first win in the Epsom Handicap since Super Impose in 1991. Assessed at 125, his 2017 Epsom success is the equal highest winning figure of an Epsom Handicap alongside 2016 winner Hauraki since Racing To Win claimed the 2006 renewal with a display assessed at 126. The similarities between Happy Clapper going into this year’s Epsom Handicap compared to Hauraki were uncanny. They each won the Tramway first up by three quarters of a length before running second in the George Main Stakes, beaten 1.3 lengths behind Winx. The popular Black Heart Bart was unable to record the 17th win of his career this spring.

He did, however, add three more Group 1 placings to his résumé with

Timeform Review (continued) the pick of them a slender second in the Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 25 behind outsider Great Shot. Black Heart Bart’s trainer Darren Weir had a spring team spearheaded by his veteran gallopers who were responsible for each of the stable’s Group 1 wins. A well as Humidor winning the Makybe Diva Stakes, Gailo Chop won the Caulfield Stakes while Tosen Stardom was victorious in both the Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Emirates Stakes (2000m). Gailo Chop and Tosen Stardom’s peak runs this spring were each assessed at 122. A rating of 122 has them as the ninth highest rated older performers for the spring alongside the HayesDabernig-trained Redkirk Warrior. The well travelled sprinter Redkirk Warrior once again showed his fondness of the Flemington Straight Six when winning the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality on September 16. Like Darren Weir, the HayesDabernig stable also enjoyed good success with their older horses through the spring.
As well as older sprinters Vega Magic and Redkirk Warrior, the training partnership caused a boilover in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 21 courtesy of Boom Time.
Four-Year-Olds A winner of the Australian Guineas earlier in the year, Hey Doc for the most part turned his hand to sprinting this spring and to good effect. The Tony McEvoy-trained gelding commenced his campaign by winning the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on August 12. He was freshened after disappointing in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington and six weeks later led throughout to win the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 27. That run returned a Timeform rating of 122, a figure which has him as the equal highest rated four-year-old this spring. He shares top billing with Impending who ran third in the Darley Classic behind Redzel and Northern Hemisphere four-year-old Johannes Vermeer who was narrowly beaten in the Melbourne Cup.
Brave Smash was the fourth highest rated four-year-old this spring, producing a Timeform figure of 121 for his placing in The Everest. Bonneval commenced her spring campaign with consecutive successes in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 9 followed by the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on October 1. In becoming the first mare to win the Underwood Stakes since Tristarc in 1985, Bonneval ran to a Timeform rating of 120. Her spring campaign was cut short, however, when found to be lame in the off fore after disappointing in the Caulfield Cup. Russian Revolution also kicked off his spring campaign with a bang by winning the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 9 to share equal fifth spot in the four-year-old ranking charts with Bonneval and Cranbourne Cup winner Folkswood. His preparation came to a premature after struggling second up in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 29.
Three-Year-Olds Rekindling sits atop of the 3YO Timeform Ranking Charts due to being recognised as a Northern Hemisphere three-year-old while he raced in Australia during the spring. The son of High Chaparral arrived in Australia off a strong fourth in the Group 1 St Leger Stakes (2921m) at Doncaster on September 16 won by Capri.
Japanese-bred Brave Smash ran well in The Everest.

The St Leger was already profiling as a strong renewal and Rekindling reaffirmed that belief in taking out the Group 1 VRC Melbourne Cup

Timeform Review (continued) (3200m) at Flemington on November 7. It was a win for youth as Rekindling for Joseph O’Brien, 24, edged out the more seasoned Johannes Vermeer for Joseph’s father and champion trainer Aidan O’Brien. Awarded a Timeform rating of 123, Rekindling provided leviathan owner Lloyd Williams with his sixth Melbourne Cup victory. It was jockey Corey Brown’s second Melbourne Cup win having partnered Shocking to victory in 2009. Rekindling was the seventh International raider or import to win the Melbourne Cup in eight renewals since the turn of the decade with only New Zealand-bred Prince Of Penzance at 100-1 in 2016 providing some surprise resistance.
Trapeze Artist scores easily in the Golden Rose.
The son of Snitzel was sent out as an overwhelming favourite for the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 23 but was upstaged by stablemate Trapeze Artist.
Gerald Ryan at the end of spring could boast having the leading three-year-old sprinters in the form of Menari and Trapeze Artist.
Trapeze Artist had struggled the run prior in the Stan Fox Stakes with Ryan electing to reapply blinkers to the colt for the Golden Rose.
Menari was hugely impressive early this spring, winning both the Listed Rosebud (1100m) and the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on September 9.
The decision sparked Trapeze Artist who went on to win the Golden Rose Stakes by 4.3 lengths with a run which returned a Timeform rating of 122.
His Run To The Rose win was assessed at 122p.
His victory is now the biggest winning margin for the Golden Rose,
two lengths superior to the prior largest margin shared by Court Command (2006), Exosphere (2015) and Astern (2016). At 40-1, Trapeze Artist became the longest priced winner of the Golden Rose, eclipsing the 20-1 quote 2003 winner In Top Swing saluted at in the inaugural running of the event. Merchant Navy finished the spring as the pick of the Victorian sprinters thanks to his head turning success in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 4. The victory which came against a capacity field of three-year-old sprinters netted the Fastnet Rock colt a Timeform rating of 120p. Merchant Navy provided trainer Aaron Purcell with his second career Group 1 victory after Aloisia won the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14. Aloisia took on the boys a fortnight later in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on October 28.
Menari looks a great stallion prospect.

Timeform Review (continued) with a success in the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m) at Sandown on November 18. Pariah rounds out the quartet of three-year-olds with a peak figure of 119 this prep. The Team Snowden-trained colt won the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 26 before a respectable second to Menari in The Run To The Rose (1200m). Of the Southern Hemisphere threeyear-olds, Ace High was the dominant stayer. Exciting colt Merchant Navy in a Melbourne win.
She is one of four who sit equal fifth in the 3YO Timeform Ranking Charts for performances assessed at 119. The other filly of this quartet is She Will Reign who returned from her 2017 Golden Slipper victory a winner in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 29.
In narrowly claiming the Group 1 Sprint, She Will Reign became the first filly to win the Moir Stakes since Virage De Fortune in 2005. The fillies are joined by another Northern Hemisphere three-year-old in The Taj Mahal who wrapped up his first Australian Spring campaign
The David Payne-trained colt came into his own once getting beyond the mile, winning the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill followed by the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on October 7. Ace High became the tenth horse to claim the Gloaming Stakes – Spring

Timeform Review (continued) Champion Stakes double, following in the footsteps of Kingston Town (1979), Best Western (1981), Sir Dapper (1983), Magic Of Sydney (1996), Tie The Knot (1997), Fairway (1999), (It’s A) Dundeel (2012), Complacent (2013) and Vanbrugh (2015). The son of High Chaparral then ventured south for the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on November 4. He recorded a two length win and became the fourth horse to achieve the Spring Champion Stakes – Victoria Derby double with a display yielding a Timeform rating of 118. Prior to Ace High, Monaco Consul in 2009 was the last to claim the double with Nothin’ Leica Dane (1995) and Stylish Century (1989) the others. The Spring Champion Stakes has now played host to five of the past nine subsequent Victorian Derby winners with Lion Tamer (2009, 5th), Sangster (2010, 3rd) and Prized Icon (2016, 3rd) others to have ventured south for Derby success. Alizee rounds out the highest rated three-year-olds courtesy of her
impressive win in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 30. Strong in winning the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) a fortnight earlier, Alizee found another level rising to a mile and became the 15th filly to claim the Tea Rose Stakes – Flight Stakes double. Alizee joins an impressive list of fillies to have claimed the double with those to have achieved the feat since the turn of the century First Seal (2014), Streama (2011), More Joyous (2009), Samantha Miss (2008), Cheeky Choice (2006), Ha Ha (2001) and Unworldly (2000). In winning the Flight Stakes, Alizee became the first Group 1 winner for Sepoy and also provided James Cummings his first Group 1 victory since taking over as Godolphin Head Trainer the month prior. Pinot was another Group 1 winning filly this spring, taking out the VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 9. Alizee was impressive in the ATC Flight Stakes.
NSW BREEDERS’ UPDATE Summer 2017/18
first Group 1 winner sired by Pierro. One pound shy of making into the 3YO Timeform Ranking Charts was Mighty Boss who won the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 14 as a rank 100-1 outsider. Being a sizeable 15 pounds clear of his prior peak rating achieved when fourth in the Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 29, the Caulfield Guineas win of Mighty Boss was given a rating of 117? as there must be a query on how genuine the display was.
2YOs Sydney two-year-olds hold the upper hand out of what we’ve seen from the crop so far with the Breeders’ Plate quinella of Performer and Bondi clearly the best performed juveniles of the spring. Comparing the sexes, the colts at this stage are superior and this was evidenced right from the first twoyear-old events of the season, the Breeders’ Plate and the Gimcrack Stakes. Both conducted over 1000m at Randwick on September 30 and within forty minutes of each other,
Pierro, sire of VRC Oaks winner Pinot.

NSW BREEDERS’ UPDATE Summer 2017/18
Breeders Summer 2017_Layout 1 8/01/2018 11:48 am Page 15
Timeform Review (continued) the Breeders’ Plate won by Performer was run over a second quicker than the Gimcrack Stakes won by Satin Slipper. Performer won the Breeders’ Plate with a performance assessed at 115, equal to the figure Capitalist ran when winning the 2015 renewal before claiming the Breeders’ Plate – Golden Slipper double. He is one of four to have claimed the double in the past decade along with Sebring (2006), Pierro (2011) and Vancouver (2014). In second place was Snitzel colt Bondi trained by Peter and Paul Snowden. Team Snowden boast an impressive arsenal of two-year-olds this season. Whilst presently spearheaded by Bondi, the father and son
partnership have also saddled up the likes of Neutrality and Legislation. Neutrality and Legislation ran to 106p and 105 at their respective winning debuts. Legend Of Condor trained by Gerald Ryan is the other notable two-yearold colt to have won in Sydney early in the season. The Tony McEvoy-trained Run Naan is the pick of the Melbourne juveniles. Run Naan was a slender winner of a Bendigo 2YO Maiden Plate (1000m) on debut and then improved significantly to win the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington on November 11. Setsuna spearheads the two-yearold fillies division so far this season having produced a Timeform rating
Top juvenile filly Setsuna.
of 105 when winning the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on November 7.
Performer impressed in winning the ATC Breeders' Plate on debut.
