LAYING OFF for a few months, the nagging and dangerous practice of trafficking illegal Haitian immigrants to the Turks and Caicos Islands has restarted, with more than 100 persons landing on the island of West Caicos on January 3, 2011. Police and immigration officers found 116 migrants on West Caicos last Monday and another six on Tuesday. Media officer for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, Detective Sergeant Calvin Chase, said the authorities believed that the 122 Haitians captured represented the majority that arrived in the country on a rickety boatl. According to Sergeant Chase, of the 122 illegal migrants, 86 were adult males, 11 were male children, 20 were adult females and five were female children. SPICE said it conducted a thorough search after receiving reports that people were seen running through the bushes in Chalk Sound. They subsequently apprehended four Haitian males who had made their way from West Caicos to continued on Page 2 Provo.
