PDM READY TO WIN BIG Opposition Leader confident of victory in upcoming elections
by Hayden Boyce Publisher & Editor-in-Chief on. Sharlene CartwrightRobinson, Leader of the Opposition People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) strongly believes that her party is in its best position ever to win the general elections whenever they are called. In an exclusive interview with The SUN, the 45-year-old lawyer said the PDM has learnt from past mistakes, has been listening to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands, energized its base and compiled a formidable slate of candidates that can take the government from the Progressive National Party (PNP) which has been in power since 2003. “If elections were called today, I think that we would win, and I think that we would have a convincing victory,” she said. “It would not be a 8-7. I wouldn’t say a number, but it would certainly not be a one seat majority. I believe that the people will convincingly votes for the Peoples Democratic Movement and I believe that we would maintain the popular vote as we have done in several elections.”

Leader back-tracked on her position On September 19th, 2016, the about removing the CFO, as outlined
by the Governor, or he may have gotten it wrong. She stated: “We have asked for a clear time line and steps in the matter onf constitutional advancement so that we are able to advise our colleagues and party on the way forward. We have not been advised on this. Secondly, on the matter of the CFO, we did advise that we expect that the role will be changed after the guarantee and could not support the current role remaining as is. You would also recall my saying that we do not support the role of CFO as on oversight system (and that we should allow Committees to work) and maintain our 2012 position contained
in our party’s position on the 2011 Constitution. I wish to remind you that during the Constitutional Review, we made it clear as did the people and the Government that this is not a role that we wish to see remain. However, since our meeting, the Premier has advised the public that the UK had agreed that the position would be removed six months after the payment of the loan (February) and the removal of the guarantee. We wish to be clear on this matter and are seeking clarification as to the position of the CFO and the agreement made with the Government of these islands.” Continued on Page 2
