CHAOS AT DIGICEL TCI by Hayden Boyce Publisher & Editor-in-Chief
A
s Digicel Turks and Caicos prepares to cut several jobs, some staff members are reporting a strong climate of fear and victimisation at the telecommunications company. Those fears reportedly intensified on Thursday, May 18th, when the company issued a terse press statement in response to a post about its senior management that went viral on social media early last week. The social media post referred to Digicel’s CEO Sinead O’Marcaigh and Commercial Director Stephen Murad, whose work permit was refused by a previous Immigration Board and who has appealed to the current Immigration Appeals Tribunal. In the post, Murad was called “Mayhem Murad” because he allegedly mistreats some local staff. The controversial post stated: “BIG BOMB drop in Digicel after Irish CEO Sinead has been transferred to regional and Mayhem Murad is taking over the position with a hit list of locals. Denise, Luis, Jennifer, Takara and 13 other staff may get pink slips
O
as soon as tomorrow after the appeal board overturns his permit. “ “Mayhem Murad the man who treats TCIslanders like dogs was refused by the previous board but he is now boasting that he has the Minister in his pocket and told staff that he will show them how Irish money is spent. Mayhem Murad had a number of clashes with staff after Luis questioned his large ENTERTAINMENT ALLOWANCE and EXORBITANT GRACE BAY BEACH CONDO HOUSING ALLOWANCE. Mayhem Murad blocked Jay’s return to Digicel and instructed staff to stop giving handset discounts to locals because he say that people in Turks Island like to live above their means. Mayhem Murad terrorizes staff and remove all the walls from the office so he can walk around and watch everyone computer monitor. Mayhem Murad should not be in TCI and we have to call Sean and tell him not to keep his word with Mayhem and let him go. Enough is Enough.” In response to that post, Digicel issued a press statement on Thursday, May 18th, stating: “Digicel is aware of malicious allegations
Digicel’s Commercial Director Stephen Murad involving its staff members being circulated on social media. Digicel refutes and denies all such accusations and condemns this kind of trouble making in the strongest terms. In an effort to protect all of the staff members referenced in these social media posts, Digicel is currently considering all its options and shall not hesitate to take
Digicel’s CEO Sinead O’Marcaigh such action it considers appropriate.” Instead of coming from the CEO Ms. O’Marcaigh or Mr. Murad, the two top managers at the company, the statement was sent out by email from Jennifer Glinton, a Turks and Caicos Islanders and manager at Digicel Turks and Caicos.
